As a born-and-bred Yorkshireman who studied for four years in Scotland, I was fascinated to find out about the existence of this bridge linking England and Scotland over the River Tweed that will soon be celebrating it's bicentennial anniversary. I promised myself that I would cross the border via this bridge on the next occasion I went to visit my friends in Scotland. Unfortunately, the road on the English side leading to the bridge had suffered a landslip and was closed! Undeterred, I had to follow a diversion to cross the border elsewhere and approach the bridge from the Scottish side, while passing about ten 'Road Closed Ahead' signs on the Scottish side warning that the bridge was not presently a through route. This diversion also caused a considerable reduction in daylight for this recording, but I think the camera coped fairly well. Fortunately, the bridge itself remains open to traffic and I hope you enjoy this brief tour in the twilight. The bridge itself links Horncliffe in Northumberland to Paxton in the Scottish Borders. It has a 2T weight limit, and signs say only one vehicle may cross at a time and vehicles are not permitted to stop on the bridge.
