It is the only town included in the Peak District National Park, and is well known for the local confection Bakewell Pudding (often mistaken for the Bakewell Tart). Park, where permitted, along the Tamworth Road or any of the side roads leading off it, or behind the Old Ale House pub (after seeking permission). Pegs 1 to 24 are accessed from the Fire Station end (by Beers Wharf). Pegs 25 to 52 are alongside the Tamworth Road. Walk under bridge (or down beside bridge from Tamworth Road) for pegs 53 to 60, with number 53 immediately below the bridge.

erewash canal pollution fish deaths, following a fire at lows lane Stanton by dale, i really did have to think about uploading this as it such a miserable subject and can hardly be called entertainment but thought it an important subject showing how fragile nature can be. The nearby erewash canal was sucked of oxygen, this film shows results of the pollution, filmed a week after the fire at the recycling centre, nearby water courses were heavily polluted. Many species of fish including carp ,roach,pike, etc were filmed floating on the canal, environment agency electro fished large sections of the waterway to remove and relocate the fish upstream to safety, over 100000 fish approximately 1.5 tonnes see photos here www.flickr.com oxygenation of the water was carried out by pumping hydrogen peroxide into the canal.. tonnes of timber being stored at the recycling centre caught fire at the rear of the building and was observed still burning over a week later when this film was made. living just minutes from this section of the erewash canal and being a keen fisherman i decided to film a small section of the affected area after hearing that fish were being observed dead in the water, i expected to see far more fatalities but was still distressed to see the devastation of such a splendid waterway known locally for its stock of natural carp often seen cruising the canal. heres a link to some forum posts including some local fishing enthusiasts views simplematchfishing.co.uk here ...

Erewash (
/ˈɛrəwɒʃ/ ERR-ə-wosh) is a local government district and borough in eastern Derbyshire, England, to the east of Derby and the west of Nottingham. It contains the towns of Ilkeston, Long Eaton and Sandiacre and fourteen civil parishes.
The borough was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the Borough of Ilkeston, the Long Eaton urban district and part of South East Derbyshire Rural District.
The borough council's headquarters are split between each of the main urban areas at Long Eaton and Ilkeston town halls.
The borough is home to the public school, Trent College and its junior / prep school The Elms School.

Elizabeth Marion "Liz" Blackman (born 26 September 1949) is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Erewash from 1997 to 2010. She served as a Government Whip from 2007-08.

Early life[link]
Blackman was born in 1949 in Penrith, England. She was educated at the Carlisle County School for Girls (now called St Aidan's County High School since 1970) on Lismore Place; Prince Henry's Grammar School in Otley; and Clifton College, Nottingham, where she was awarded a BEd degree in 1972.
She taught history at Bramcote Park Comprehensive School, an upper school, in Nottingham, and in 1991 she was elected as a councillor to Broxtowe District Council, and became its deputy leader in 1995 until her election to Westminster in 1997. She stood down from the council in 1998.
Parliamentary career[link]
Blackman was selected to stand for election for Labour through an all-women shortlist.[1] Blackman was elected as the Labour MP for Erewash at the 1997 General Election, defeating the Conservative Angela Knight. She began her progress up the political ladder when she was nominated to the Treasury Select Committee in 1997, replacing Diane Abbott. In 2000 she became the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon. She remained Hoon's PPS after the 2005 General Election in his new position as Leader of the House of Commons. She was promoted to Government Whip and Vice-Chamberlain of the Household in 2007 but stood down from the government in 2008.
On 9 January 2010, Blackman announced that she would stand down at the 2010 general election.[2]
Expenses controversy[link]
On 16 May 2009 The Daily Telegraph revealed details of Blackman's expense claims, showing she had made especially large Additional costs allowance claims. The paper revealed that she had gone on shopping sprees at the end of each financial year in order to claim the maximum possible expenses, purchasing items such as a £199 DVD player, £150 on bed linen and £60 on towels. In 2004/5 her claim was £9 below the maximum possible allowable claim of £20,893, and the following year her claim was within just £2 of the limit.[3] Blackman was one of 98 MPs who supported a bill in 2007 to keep their expense details secret.[4]

She married Derek Blackman. They divorced in 1999. They have a son and daughter.
