Charing Cross Station (HD)
At last the snow has cleared (although the cold has not yet relented) so as London returned to normal operations, I took the camera to a work meeting and used the opportunity of my location at Charing Cross to film afterwards. Charing Cross is next to Trafalgar Square and the Strand, and just over the river from the Millennium Wheel. Wikipedia notes that Charing Cross is named after a long demolished monument religious cross. The name originates from the Eleanor cross erected between the former hamlet of Charing and the entrance to the Royal Mewsf the Palace of Whitehall in 1291-4 by King Edward I as a memorial to his wife, Eleanor of Castile. The cross was the work of the medieval sculptor, Alexander of Abingdon. Originally built in wood, it was quickly replaced with a stone and marble monument. The name of the hamlet is derived from the old english word cierring, referring to the large bend in the River Thames nearby. When you view Charing Cross today it's impossible to think that this place was once a little village (or hamlet) in the countryside! Today Charing Cross is best known for its railway station terminus and underground station. At the front of the station is the Charing Cross hotel, an upmarket place to stay in this most busy part of central London. ALSO: This episode includes a 10-second promo for "Norway in HD" norwayinhd.com a very similarly-styled podcast to LLTV, showing off the very best of a very beautiful country.

84 Charing Cross Road (Play for Today 4/11/75) Helene Hanff
Hello, I've been collecting rare films and television programmes for nearly twenty years now and I thought it was high time I shared some clips from a few of the titles in my archive with you nice people out there. If you've a similar passion and would like to trade or just want to say hello, thanks etc. get in touch with me here or at statesedgefilms@virginmedia.com **********PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME TO UPLOAD COMPLETE TITLES********** Four years ago I was successfully prosecuted for uploading a complete version of a film I thought was in the Public Domain. This brought bankruptcy and an end to eighteen months of hell which I would not care to relive. I am happy to trade copies of anything in my archive but I'll not risk sticking my head in the lion's mouth again.

Kyle Gann - Charing Cross
Kyle Gann is probably the flag bearer of minimalism. This is one of his compositions. "Sometimes I like to use microtones in a songlike, almost pop kind of context to bring the tuning weirdness into even greater relief. Charing Cross moves among chords based on the 7th, 9th, 11th, and 13th harmonics, as well as on the tonic and on 15/14 (a virtual 17th harmonic, though actually slightly more exotic). Using software that let me add microtones freely as I went along, I ended up with 39 pitches to the octave. (Only 37 different pitches were used in the realization; when two pitches are closer than five cents I merge them, just to simplify the realization.) The form of the piece is a loose additive process: first the 7th-harmonic and 13th-harmonic tonalities are introduced, later the 9th and 15/14, and the 11th-harmonic tonality is saved for the very end. The opening bass line started ringing in my head as I was sitting outside near the Charing Cross underground station in London, and I commenced composing the piece on a napkin at the closest outdoor Italian restaurant." brought here under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 License (creativecommons.org

84 Charing Cross Road (1987) - Anthony Hopkins recites Yeats (with lyrics)
Film about two friends (Anthony Hopkins & Anne Bancroft) who had never met, based on Helene Hanff's book. For the true booklovers. He Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven, William Butler Yeats "Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half-light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic
This is the kind of aggressive and patronising kind of interrogation transsexual people had to endure at Charing Cross Gender Identiity Clinic in the past. This kind of confrontational attitude shown in this video was endemic during the 1980s -and also during the 1990s and early 2000s if the testimonies in this thread are anything to go by ... www.susans.org No apologies were ever given on behalf of the clinic to the trans community for the rather aggressive, abusive and confrontational ways trans people were treated at the clinic in the past, which undoubtedly led to the mental breakdowns of several patients, and quite possibly some suicides. Things might have improved at the clinic for current patients, but perhaps now is the time for an apology for the ways patients were treated in the past.
