FAA
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the national aviation authority of the United States. An agency of the United States Department of Transportation, it has authority to regulate and oversee all aspects of civil aviation in the U.S. The Federal Aviation Act of 1958 created the organization under the name "Federal Aviation Agency", and adopted its current name in 1966 when it became a part of the United States Department of Transportation.
The FAA's major roles include:
In December 2000, an organization within FAA called the Air Traffic Organization, or ATO, was set up by presidential executive order. This became the Air Navigation Service Provider for the airspace of the United States and for the New York (Atlantic) and Oakland (Pacific) oceanic areas. It is a full member of the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation.
FAA issues a number of awards to holders of its licenses. Among these are demonstrated proficiencies as an aviation mechanic, a flight instructor, a 50-year aviator, or as a safe pilot. The latter, the FAA "Wings Program", provides a series of ten badges for pilots who have undergone several hours of training since their last award. A higher level can be claimed each year. Faà di Bruno is the name of an Italian noble family based in the areas of Asti, Casale, and Alessandria, which provided the Counts (later Marquises) of Bruno. In 1703 the family became additionally counts of Carentino.

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation after a mechanical problem on a JetBlue flight from Las Vegas to New York this weekend led to an emergency landing, grounding 135 rattled passengers. JetBlue confirmed to ABC News that the captain of Flight 194 declared an emergency landing on Sunday because of a "mechanical indication" in the cockpit. Officials at Las Vegas' McCarran Airport said the aircraft had hydraulic problems in the air and had to return to the airport. "People were getting sick. Some people were throwing up. There were a lot of people getting nauseous," passenger Tom Mizer told the New York Post. One passenger told the newspaper that throughout the flight the plane continuously lurched from side to side and went into step turns. First up, the Federal Aviation Administration, or, FAA is finally gonna do some digging to determine whether or not personal electronic devices like your iPhone actually cause interference that could endanger your flight. We all know the answer to this one - hellz no! How do we know this? Because planes aren't dropping out of the sky in crazy numbers despite all the rule-breaking passengers who use their devices in violation of these warnings. Not that I ever -- I always listen to the flight attendants and follow the rules. But seriously, if your laptop or mp3 player could actually take down a plane, something tells us they wouldn't rely on the honor system in terms of having them turned off. Anyways, like we said, the FAA's looking into it and we could see a relaxing of these strict take-off and landing policies regarding personal electronics? What do you guys think?
