Thong Song

"Thong Song" is a song recorded by American R&B artist Sisqó. It was released on December 31, 1999 as the second single from Sisqó's 1999 solo debut LP Unleash the Dragon. "Thong Song" garnered 4 Grammy nominations and numerous other awards as well. The song peaked at number one on Billboard Rhythmic top 40 chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100, Sisqó's second highest-peaking hit behind "Incomplete". It was a major success worldwide as well, reaching the top ten throughout European charts, including number one in Sweden and Norway, and number three in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Denmark. The song also topped the charts in New Zealand.

This song is about gender roles, presented first in the lyrics "This thing right here Is lettin' all the ladies know What guys talk about You know, the finer things in life A heh heh heh Check it out" These opening lyrics state that women need to know what men talk about.

Production

The song was written and produced by Sisqó, and Tim & Bob, a duo which consists of Tim Kelley and Bob Robinson. Songwriters Desmond Child and Draco Rosa receive songwriting credit because of the interpolation of part of their composition, "Livin' la Vida Loca" (originally recorded by Ricky Martin), in the song's lyrics. The strings heard throughout the song, performed for the record by violinist Bruce Dukov, are inspired by Wes Montgomery's cover of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby".

Sisqó

Mark Althavean Andrews (born November 9, 1978), known by his stage name Sisqó (stylized as SisQó), is an American R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, record producer and actor. He is the lead singer of R&B group Dru Hill, and has also released solo material. Sisqo's successful debut solo album, Unleash the Dragon (1999), included the hit singles "Thong Song" and "Incomplete." Andrews resides in Maple Grove, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis, with his girlfriend Elizabeth Pham.

Biography

As a teen, Mark Andrews worked at The Fudgery in Baltimore's Inner Harbor with three other young men: Larry "Jazz" Anthony, James "Woody" Green, and Tamir "Nokio" Ruffin. The quartet would be signed as the group Dru Hill to Island Records in 1996. He lived in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood at 908 Newington Avenue near Druid Hill Park which is where the group got their name.

Andrews graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School in 1994. He has a daughter, Shaione, who was born in 1995. His second child, Quintus, was born in 1995. His third child, son Ryū, was born in 2012. Andrews' children is the godfather of fellow R&B singer Cedric Hailey, who performs under his best known name K-Ci (best known as a member of Jodeci and K-Ci & JoJo).

Ariana Savalas

Ariana Savalas (born January 9, 1987 in Los Angeles) is an American jazz vocalist, songwriter, and actress. She is the daughter of film and TV actor, Telly Savalas.

Early years

Savalas was born in Los Angeles in 1987 but was raised in Minnesota following her father's death in 1994. She studied Shakespeare and acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and is a member of Playhouse West, a repertory theater directed by Jeff Goldblum. Before turning to jazz, Savalas toured and recorded in Europe as a pop singer in her teens with European producer Jack White. She also released her first original song "Perfect Man" independently in 2012, the video featuring Eric Dane from "Grey's Anatomy". She worked as an actress, cast as the title role in the independent feature film "Miriam" and making a guest appearance on CBS' hit drama Criminal Minds. Savalas stars in her second feature "Akrasia", by Polish director Xavier Tartakiewicz, still in post-production.

Career

Savalas began her music career in Los Angeles as a singer/songwriter playing venues on the Sunset Strip such as the Whisky a Go-Go and Hard Rock Cafe before quickly transitioning into jazz. Her first jazz EP, "Sophisticated Lady", is a combination of Savalas' original compositions as well as two standards from the Great American Songbook, including the song Sophisticated Lady by Duke Ellington, Mitchell Parish, and Irving Mills which she named the record after. She has performed at venues including the New York Friars' Club, Herb Alpert’s Vibrato in Beverly Hills, Michael Feinstein's late New York cabaret Feinstein's, the Royal Room in Palm Beach, and Palm Desert's McCallum Theatre.
