He was also attached to the Delhi Doordarshan center, Delhi. He learnt guitar and violin. In 1964, music director Madan Mohan heard him over AIR, and called him to Bombay. He gave him a chance to sing the song Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga with Mohammad Rafi in Chetan Anand's Haqeeqat.... Parichay (Hindi: परिचय; translation: introduction) is a 1972 Indian film directed by Gulzar, based on a Bengali novel, Rangeen Uttarain by Raj Kumar Maitra.[1] The movie is inspired by The Sound of Music, but at the same time is not an exact copy of the original.[citation needed]

Ravi (Jeetendra) is sent to tutor Rai Saheb(Pran)'s five grandchildren, the eldest of whom is a young woman named Rama (Jaya Bhaduri). Their father Nilesh (Sanjeev Kumar), a talented musician, died not long after his wife's death, so the children were sent to live with their paternal grandfather. The children have driven away their previous tutors and in turn, often get corporal punishment from their great-aunt. After Ravi comes, the children play tricks on him too, but his gentle manner and patient methods win them over. He and Rama fall in love, and the end credits indicate that there will be a wedding between them.

Keshto Mukherjee (Bengali: কেষ্ট মুখার্জী) was an Indian actor. He specialised in comic drunkard roles in the Hindi films. Though he was famous for his drunkard typecast role in Hindi films, he used to share a very good relation with the iconic Ritwik Ghatak and had very tiny but important roles in the maestro's films such as the trickster in Bari theke paliye, the madman in Pathetic Fallacy or character roles in Citizen and Argument and story.

Keshto Mukherjee was a discovery of the legendary film maker Ritwik Ghatak. His debut film was in 1952 in Nagarik, a Bengali movie. Hrishikesh Mukherjee put him in his Musafir(1953). It was Asit Sen who ought to be credited for unearthing Keshto Mukherjee's potentials of the petent drunkard acting in Maa aur Mamta(1970). Since then Keshto fell into proto-typed trap of drunkard roles excepting a few. In Teesri Kasam he acted with Raj Kapoor. In Sadhu aur Saitan he was one of the cronies of Kishor Kumar. Similar role was performed in Padosan In Mehmood's Bombay to Goa his role of a dozing passenger was simply superb. In Mere Apne(1971) Keshto appears as a political leader misleading the local toughs for winning in the election. In Parichay(1974) he comes as the private tutor to a group of naughty children who terrifies him by setting a turtle with a lighted candle on its back. In Zanjeer, Aap Ki Kasam and Sholay Keshto Mukherjee's performances have left long-lasting impressions. His trademark phrase being "हे हे हेया" in personal life he never used to drink.

Keshto Mukherjee's son, Babloo Mukherjee is also a comedy actor and has acted in several films. It is a popular misconception that Shushmita Mukherjee, is Keshto Mukherjee's daughter.
