Belo Corp. ( /ˈbiːloʊ/) NYSE: BLC is a Dallas-based media company that owns 20 commercial broadcasting television stations and two regional 24-hour cable news television channels. The company was previously known as A.H. Belo Corp. after one of the early owners of the company, Alfred Horatio Belo, now the name of the newspaper company spun off from Belo early in 2008. Belo has its headquarters in the Belo Building in Downtown Dallas, designed by Dallas architects Omniplan and constructed between 1983 and 1985.^[3]

The company traces its roots back to 1842 with the introduction of The Daily News in Galveston, Texas. Its flagship, The Dallas Morning News, has been publishing since 1885. The name A.H. Belo Corporation was applied to the company in 1926. The name was shortened to Belo Corp. in 2002.^{[citation needed]}

On October 1, 2007, Belo announced the separation of its newspaper and television businesses by spinning off its newspaper business to shareholders as the A. H. Belo Corporation, officially completed in February 2008. The television business retains the Belo Corp. name (without the "A. H." initials),^[4] with the television business being the legal successor to the prior company.^[5]

In addition, Belo operates websites for each of its properties. The sites were formerly part of a separate company, known as Belo Interactive. In late 2004, the company began the process of reintegrating the sites in to sister media properties. One of its most infamous investments was in the failed CueCat and its parent company, Digital Convergence. Belo integrated its media properties to be able to use the device, but it never took off.

Belo is also one of the major investors in Classified Ventures, LLC.

In late 2009, Belo began transitioning the Web operations of its television stations from a largely in-house operation to the Broadcast Interactive Media platform. The first such relaunches were the Web sites of its Arizona station properties—KTVK/KASW in Phoenix and KMSB/KTTU in Tucson—which launched in September 2009. The transition (at least for the major Belo television properties) was completed on November 19, 2009 when WFAA in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex relaunched its Web site.

Olawale Mohammed "Brian" Belo (born 10 July 1987 in Nigeria)^[1] is a Nigerian entertainer, raised in Basildon, Essex. He first came to the public's attention by winning the eighth series of the British version of Big Brother.^[2] Since the programme, he has become an internet columnist for Heat magazine, a TV segment entertainer for Harry Hill's TV Burp and Big Brother's Big Mouth. In the programme's twelve series in the UK, Belo is notable for being the only series winner not to have entered the House on the series' launch night; all eleven other winners entered the contest on Day 1 of their respective series.

Belo entered the Big Brother house on 15 June 2007, alongside Billi Bhatti, Jonathan Durden and Liam McGough.^[3] He was noted for his apparent ignorance in regards to William Shakespeare, claiming that he had never heard of the playwright.^[4] As Belo entered the final week of the competition, it was speculated that he would come in second place behind Sam and Amanda Marchant; Ladbrokes placed the Marchant twins as favourites at 2/7 and Belo at 5/2.^[5] However, Belo was announced as the winner of the series on 31 August 2007 with 60% of the vote to win.^[2] Belo is the youngest winner of the programme, and is the only black winner so far.

Post-Big Brother[link]

Less than a month after leaving the programme, Belo made his stage debut as the Guardian Angel in The Vegemite Tales opposite Jonathon Dutton and Blair McDonough at The Venue off Leicester Square.^[6] Belo then made a cameo appearance in the 20 November 2007 episode of Hollyoaks; he expressed his enjoyment of the programme whilst in Big Brother.^[7] Belo later became a regular on the ITV1 comedy show Harry Hill's TV Burp, where he gives his thoughts on the week's television. Along with Harry, he sings, "Ebony. And Ivory. Side by side by the piano keyboard. Oh Lord, why don't we . . . ", and Harry sprayed him with a stinger. ^[8] Belo returned to the Big Brother franchise when making a brief appearance in E4's Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack, in which Radio DJ Chris Moyles had sent him into the house to surprise the housemates.^[9] Belo performed segments of Shakespeare’s plays as part of Stratford-upon-Avon's Shakespeare Aloud initiative in March 2008 in order to bring the works to a wider audience.^[4] In July 2008, he released a single, entitled Essex Boy, which failed to chart.^[10][11] In October 2008, Belo appeared in TV horror series Dead Set, both as himself and as a zombie.^[12] From June 2009 onwards, Belo became a columnist for Heat Magazine's website, documenting the events of the tenth series of Big Brother and he also holds a regular slot on Big Brother's Big Mouth.^[13][14] In order to commemorate the tenth year of Big Brother, Belo temporarily returned to the house in July 2009 to participate in a task alongside Charlie Drummond, as he was struggling to find employ.^[15] In October 2010, Belo appeared on Gayle Tuesday: The Comeback, as Tuesday had made his likeness onto a potato on Can't Stand the Heat.

After Big Brother, Belo entered a relationship with fellow participant Amanda Marchant.^[16] However, the pair announced their separation in January 2008.^[17] He practises Cosmic Ordering.^[18]

Gemma Cairney (born 19 March 1985) is a British radio presenter and former fashion stylist, known for presenting the mid-afternoon programme on BBC Radio 1Xtra. She is now BBC Radio 1 DJ covering the weekend show 7-10am.

Prior to her career in radio, she was a stylist for acts such as Florence and the Machine and The Pigeon Detectives. Then, following a course at Point Blank Music College ^[1] Gemma fronted several radio shows for Channel 4's 4radio before landing the role of co-presenter for Big Brother's Big Ears for Big Brother 2008 alongside Iain Lee. Gemma began her 1Xtra career co-hosting the Breakfast Show with legendary bald co-presenter Trevor Nelson.^[2] Prior to starting on BBC 1Xtra, she co-presented the Kiss FM^{[disambiguation needed ]} breakfast show for two weeks in August 2008.

In autumn 2008 and spring 2010 Gemma was the roving reporter for T4's Frock Me, hosting alongside Alexa Chung and Henry Holland. Other TV appearances have included reaching second place on Pick Me MTV and a regular slot as a co-presenter of Channel 4's online series Bite. In November 2010 she was a guest panelist on ITV2's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now! Her sister, Laura once filled in for her as Gemma reportedly got lost in the jungle and had to be rescued by Ant or Dec. Roberta Varela de Sá is a Brazilian singer.

Sá was born in Natal and is of Portuguese descent.^[1]

Beginning on 28 February 2011 the airline TAP Portugal began airing its "TAP With Arms Wide Open" (TAP de Braços Abertos) campaign, featuring its new slogan. Three singers, Sá, the Portuguese singer Mariza, and the Angolan singer Paulo Flores starred in a music video with the song "Arms Wide Open."^[2]

Cláudia Cristina Leite Inácio, known as Claudia Leitte (born July 10, 1980^[1] in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro^[2]) is a Pop, Brazilian axé singer, and former vocalist of the group Babado Novo.^[3] Since she is one of the most popular axé singers in Brazil,^[4][5] she hosted MTV Brasil's Video Music Brasil 2007,^[6] in which she had been nominated as best singer in that award.^[7] Claudia Leitte has also won other awards.

Claudia Leitte started singing children's songs, while still young, then worked as a singer in bars. She was also the vocalist of several axé music bands. As a teenager she sang in trios elétricos.^[2] She became a professional singer when she was thirteen years old.^[4]

Leitte has been the vocalist of Salvador-based axé band Babado Novo since November 2001. Her band released five albums.^[8] The band's first album, named Sem Vergonha, released in 2003, sold more than 90,000 copies, being the band's first Gold disc, while the album named Uau! Babado Novo ao Vivo em Salvador, released in 2004, sold more than 100,000 CDs and more than 70,000 DVDs, and the fourth album, released in December 2005, named Diário de Claudinha (meaning Claudinha's Diary, Claudinha being Claudia Leitte's nickname) sold 70,000 copies in just one week.^[4]

As a member of the band, she was nominated for the 2007 MTV Video Music Brasil, promoted by MTV Brasil.^[7] Claudia Leitte has also won in 2007 the Brazilian Best Female Singer award, promoted by GloboRadio, beating Ivete Sangalo, Sandy, Ana Carolina and Maria Rita,^[9] and she and her band won the following Carnatal awards: best female singer, best band, best bloco, best music ("Exttravasa") and best artist.^[5] In January 2008, Leitte announced that she would be leaving her band, and starting a solo career,^[10] recording her first solo career DVD in February 2008 in Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro.^[11] On February 5, 2008, Claudia Leitte performed for the last time as a member of Babado Novo band.^[12] On February 17, 2008, at a show in Copacabana Beach, she performed her first live album as a solo singer, watched by 700,000 people.^[13] On July 4, 2008, her first solo CD and DVD, named Ao Vivo em Copacabana (meaning Live in Copacabana) was released at Credicard Hall, São Paulo.^[14]
