Two Aussie Kayakers have paddled across the Tasman Sea to NZ
The two Australian kayakers who successfully paddled across the Tasman Sea are planning new adventures. "Sixty-two days is a long time to think and unfortunately for our parents we've got some good ideas," James Castrission, 25, said at the end of their epic journey across the Ditch yesterday. Castrission and Justin Jones, 24, ended their record-breaking paddle at New Plymouth, two months to the day after setting off from Forster in New South Wales.

Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle
After turning the Crusader end for end (26 metres worth!) she is now brought back into the shed. As you can see we are starting on the decking and then will move on to the wheelhouse. This is one of the largest boats built in Motueka. She will come from Nelson to Kaiteriteri and also service the Park on our schedule.

Sailing Vega across the Tasman Sea - Australia to New Zealand June 2009
This video is for the 4 of us to remember the gentle and solid Vega, just ploughing through the waves from Australia to her home in New Zealand. Almost without the auto pilot it felt like she knew where to go and was going to get there despite what we did. At the end of the video you'll see that we were always harnessed to her. We were not going to leave her until we had, together, reached her home town of Auckland.

Solo
On January 11, 2007, Andrew McAuley set out on his quest to become the first person to kayak from Australia to New Zealand across one of the wildest and loneliest stretches of ocean on Earth. On February 9, New Zealand maritime authorities received his distress call. Having survived a harrowing and torturous month at sea, conquering monstrous swells and terrifying storms, McAuley lost his life only a day from completing his journey. His body was never recovered, but the camera tapes from his kayak were and they form the basis of this moving and questioning portrait of a complex man, his family, his supporters and his attempt to conquer the ferocious Tasman Sea.

Lennox Head Lights-Up
LENNOX Head firing for the locals during the peak of the Tasman Sea swell and not a pro in sight.
Lennox Head in New South Wales was reportedly 'discovered' by two Kiwis in 1962, the same year Australia entered the Vietnam war. At the time there was no real road and certainly no crowds. Now rightly, it's one of the Lucky Country's go-to spots. A ripper of a wave, standing-up and throwing-out for 500m down its pressing rocky headland.
Also it's one of the last spots on the coast that really picked up a decent southerly wedge of the Tasman Sea super swell. Greg spent four hours filming here and after he'd banked the reel needed, suited up just as a 20mph onshore came through and ripped it to shreds.

The Waitakere Ranges are a chain of hills 25 km west of central Auckland, New Zealand. The ranges and surrounding areas were traditionally known to local Māori as Te Wao Nui a Tiriwa (The Great Forest of Tiriwa).
