North Wales: Conwy Castle
Wales has more castles per square mile than any other place in Europe. However, the lion's share were not built by the Welsh, but by English invaders. In the fortified castle town of Conwy, we learn from a local expert how these castles were carefully engineered to discourage and withstand Welsh rebellions. Conwy Lightshow (Blinc)
This is the start of the Conwy Light show done on the side of the castle. The sound isn't great so don't turn it up too loud (particularly at the start) its quite noisy as well (it was pitch black and so was at iso 6400) but you'll get a feel for the event.

Conwy, Wales: Charming Garrison Town
The fortified castle town of Conwy was a safe base in the 13th century for the English invaders as they tried (and tried) to put down the angry Welsh insurgency. Today the harbor — once vital for military purposes — is now a laid back zone that locals treat like a town square. The scene is mellow, multigenerational, and perfectly Welsh. Battle Castle: Conwy 360
Location: Wales
The build: Conwy was built by King Edward I of England in the late 13th century in Snowdonia, northern Wales. Part of the famous “Iron Ring” of fortifications, it was designed by Edward’s top military architect, Master James of St. George, to suppress Welsh rebellions against English rule. A striking example of Edward’s distinct vision, this fortification is strategically positioned on the River Conwy. Its deadly entrance, lofty crenellated towers, and cleverly-designed river gate are statements to its determined King and enduring domination.
The siege: This stronghold was attacked by the Madog ap Llywelyn after he launched a campaign against the English in 1294. The leader, calling himself Prince of Wales, was armed with the powerful longbow. His army targeted several castles including Harlech – which was besieged - and Caernarfon – where the town and castle were sacked. Edward was present in the castle during the siege of Conwy and the outcome of the uprising would not only decide the destiny of England’s holdings in Wales – it would also inspire the King to attempt to perfect castle engineering by raising the mighty Beaumaris.

Great British Railway Journeys - Conwy Valley 1of2
Great British Railway Journeys - Conwy Valley part 1 of 2 (copy). Let the train take you for a 'jolt' along the lovely Conwy Valley from Llandudno, on the North coast of Wales, to Blaenau Ffestiniog where the standard-gauge Conwy Valley Railway (Part of the National Rail Network) shares its Southern terminus with the Northern terminus of the narrow-gauge Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. The second part features the Welsh Slate Industry at Blaenau, and travel onwards to Porthmadog on the Ffestiniog Railway. The railways greatly changed the lives of Britons (Welsh) during the early 19th Century, as Michael Portillo explains. Conwy Valley Railway: www.conwyvalleyrailway.co.uk .
