Perhaps the most unique sign-off in TV history was aired by WLWI, when it was an ABC affiliate. It featured the zooming out of a model of their TV studio - which is suddenly blown up right in the middle of it. VO is by David Letterman, who got his start at this station. The station was renamed WTHR in 1976. It switched network affiliation to Letterman's first network home, NBC, in 1979. This was for over a year my highest viewed video.
Video of WBAM-FM in Montgomery Alabama relaying the first ever National EAS Test across our 7 station cluster. The test was received via WLWI-FM who relayed NPR. Sage Digital Endec, Broadcast Tools 2.1 switchers. Monitoring: CAP, APT, WLWI-FM, WLWI-AM, and KBMX/NWS.
Had this done for a while know but haven't really wanted to upload it but figured its a good time now. Enjoy!
Back in the day many radio stations didn't stay on the air 24/7 like they do today. Before they signed off for the night, the station aired an announcement like this, usually followed by the National Anthem. This sign-off came from WLAP AM & FM in Lexington, KY. It was recorded at the end of DJ Ron Lake's last show on the station on April 16, 1972.
