David Chipperfield Architects was established in 1984 and the practice currently has over 200 staff at its offices in London, Berlin, Milan and Shanghai. David Chipperfield received the RIBA Royal Gold Medal for Architecture in 2011, awarded in recognition of a lifetime's work. Significant projects that have opened in recent years include the renewed Neues Museum, which was completed in 2009 following twelve years of delicate work rebuilding the war-ravaged structure and restoring the unique interiors on a sensitive site. The City of Justice in Barcelona, and the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, Alaska also opened the same year. In 2010, the Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany was opened as ...

Interview of Aldous Huxley A Yoan Saint Part 1/2
After World War II Huxley applied for United States citizenship, but his application was continuously deferred on the grounds that he would not say he would take up arms to defend the US, so he withdrew it. Nevertheless, he remained in the country, and in 1959 he turned down an offer of a Knight Bachelor by the Macmillan government. During the 1950s Huxley's interest in the field of psychical research grew keener, and his later works are strongly influenced by both mysticism and his experiences with psychedelic drugs. In October 1930 the Mystic Aleister Crowley dined with Huxley in Berlin, and to this day rumours persist that Crowley introduced Huxley to peyote on that occasion. He was introduced to mescaline by the psychiatrist Humphry Osmond in 1953. On 24 December 1955 Huxley took his first dose of LSD. Indeed, Huxley was a pioneer of self-directed psychedelic drug use "in a search for enlightenment", famously taking 100 micrograms of LSD as he lay dying. His psychedelic drug experiences are described in the essays The Doors of Perception (the title deriving from some lines in the book The Marriage of Heaven and Hell by William Blake), and Heaven and Hell. Some of his writings on psychedelics became frequent reading among early hippies. While living in Los Angeles, Huxley was a friend of Ray Bradbury. According to Sam Weller's biography of Bradbury, the latter was dissatisfied with Huxley, especially after Huxley encouraged Bradbury to take psychedelic drugs. In 1955 ...

Kenneth Branagh Knighted At Buckingham Palace.
Kenneth Branagh has received his knighthood from the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The Oscar-nominated actor, director and screenwriter, known for his Shakespeare works and more recently as Swedish detective Wallander on the BBC, was knighted in the Queen's birthday honours in June. The Belfast-born 51-year-old was made a knight bachelor for services to drama and the community of Northern Ireland. He joins the likes of Sir Alec Guinness, Sir Michael Caine, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ben Kingsley and Sir Laurence Olivier in becoming a thespian knight. Sir Kenneth, who directed the recent Hollywood blockbuster Thor and featured in the Olympics opening ceremony this year, said he felt "humble, elated and incredibly lucky" at the award. "When I was a kid I dreamed of pulling on a shirt for the Northern Ireland football team," he said. "I could only imagine how proud you might feel. Today it feels like they just gave me the shirt and my heart's fit to burst." Sir Kenneth spent his early years in Northern Ireland, where he is now honorary president of the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action, which supports all the organisations in the voluntary and community sector. He moved to Reading with his family when he was nine, where he reportedly first adopted an English accent to avoid bullying. Salman Rushdie - Machiavelli's Bad Rap
Complete video at: fora.tv Award-winning novelist Salman Rushdie discusses Niccolo Machiavelli, arguing that the infamous Italian political philosopher does not deserve the bad reputation he is often given by popular culture. ----- Born in Mumbai, India, Salman Rushdie is an outspoken novelist. After a decade working as an ad copywriter, Rushdie had a breakthrough with the publication of his second book, Midnight's Children. The book received critical acclaim and was awarded the Booker Prize in 1981. His latest novel, The Enchantress of Florence, about a bewitching Moghul princess and her Florentine exploits with such historical characters as Machiavelli, is due out this June - City Arts & Lectures Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie is an Indian-British novelist and essayist. He first achieved fame with his second novel, Midnight's Children (1981), which won the Booker Prize.Much of his early fiction is set at least partly on the Indian subcontinent. His style is often classified as magical realism, while a dominant theme of his work is the story of the many connections, disruptions, and migrations between the Eastern and Western worlds. His fourth novel, The Satanic Verses (1988), led to protests from Muslims in several countries, some of which were violent. Faced with death threats and a fatwā (religious edict) issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, then Supreme Leader of Iran, which called for him to be killed, he spent nearly a decade largely underground, appearing in public ...

BENT METAL'S KINKO DE MAYO - MT BACHELOR - 2012
Bent Metal successfully resurrected the rotting burro corpse that is Kinko de Mayo recently at Mt Bachelor in Oregon.
We had a plethora of sombreros, biker vests, chips & salsa, a stacked playlist of punk and metal and yes...a Squirt pit.
Bent Metal Knights Jesse Burtner, Sean Genovese and Jeff Keenan held down the judging on the five kink features (El Guapo, Tijuana Tube, El Burro, Burrito Box and Tube-A-Lero) the Bachelor Parks crew set-up just for the event.
When the corn chips cleared, Aaron Cardwell took the overall Tortilla Title and got a new DWD board, Poler Napsack and the LAST POSSIBLE INVITE to Snowboarder Magazine's Superpark. Well done kid.
Thanks to Bent Metal Binders, Mt. Bachelor, Lib Tech Snowboards, GNU Snowboards, Arnette Eyewear, Poler Stuff, Dinosaurs Will Die Snowboards, COAL, YoBeat and Snowboarder Magazine for making it happen.
See you next spring.
Zero Innovation...Perfect Execution...Bent Metal.

Interview of Aldous Huxley A Yoan Saint Part 2/2
In 1955 ...
