Mame is a 1974 Technicolor musical film in Panavision based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name (itself based on the 1958 Auntie Mame film) and the 1955 novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis.
It was directed by Gene Saks, written by Paul Zindel, and starred Lucille Ball in her final film performance. The cast also stars Bea Arthur, Bruce Davison and Robert Preston.
The story focuses on the madcap life of Mame Dennis (Ball), which is disrupted when she becomes the guardian of her deceased brother's son. She marries a wealthy Southern plantation owner (Preston), is widowed, yet through it all, with the help of her dearest friend, Vera Charles (Arthur), manages to keep things under control.
At the reading of the will of young Patrick Dennis's (Kirby Furlong) father, a trustee, Mr. Babcock (John McGiver), reveals that Patrick is to be left in the care of his aunt, Mame Dennis (Lucille Ball), as well as his nanny, Agnes Gooch (Jane Connell). Taking a train to New York City (Main Title Including St. Bridget), Agnes and the boy arrive at Mame's home, where they walk into a wild party that Mame is giving for a holiday she herself created (It's Today). Patrick asks if he may slide down her banister, then reveals his true identity. Mame introduces the boy to her friends, including a renowned stage actress (and famous lush), Vera Charles (Beatrice Arthur).

A film, also called a movie, motion picture or photoplay, is a series of still images which, when shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images due to the phi phenomenon. This optical illusion causes the audience to perceive continuous motion between separate objects viewed rapidly in succession. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera; by photographing drawings or miniature models using traditional animation techniques; by means of CGI and computer animation; or by a combination of some or all of these techniques and other visual effects. The word "cinema", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to the industry of films and filmmaking or to the art of filmmaking itself. The contemporary definition of cinema is the art of simulating experiences to communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty or atmosphere by the means of recorded or programmed moving images along with other sensory stimulations.
The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.

For fun, here is the stereo version of "Bosom Buddies" from the 1974 film adaptation of MAME, sung by stars Lucille Ball and Bea Arthur, synced to the final film footage. Opening in 1966 on Broadway, MAME is based on the 1955 novel AUNTIE MAME by Patrick Dennis and a 1956 Broadway play, of the same name, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee.
Its over 30 years since this film was released - never seen on DVD - and only to be bought on a now deleted VHS, it would be nice to have it out on DVD now - also the music release from this film has never been released since the 1970s vynil too! (although the stage show with Angela Landsbury is now on CD) Its not a bad musical really, it just was released a year or two too late to ride on the back of things like Hello Dolly and such! (Very 1960s musical style is the film) but worth a watch! Anyway to show how good it is, here is We Need A Little Christmas, performed by Lucy. It will be of interest to Crossroads fans as I know this was featured in the soap sung by Noele Gordon in 1979.
