Another Shooting This time at St Louis Business School - Gun Control
Click here to subscribe: youtube.com A man shot an administrator at a college in St Louis, Missouri, and then himself, according to police. St Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said the shooting at the Stevens Institute of Business and Arts happened at about 2pm. The administrator - a man in his 40s - was shot in his office. Chief Dotson said the gunman was a student at the school who had no history of threatening behaviour, and the motive for the shooting was not clear. Both the administrator and the suspect were undergoing surgery. Chief Dotson did not know if their injuries were life-threatening. Police arrived within a minute of receiving a call about the shooting. They found students huddled under desks and in closets. The administrator had made it to an elevator. The gunman was found injured in a stairwell. Officers hurriedly escorted students and staff out of the building and then made sure no other gunmen were inside. Among the students was 24-year-old Britanee Jones. She refused to speak to reporters but her mother, Angae Lowery, said her daughter texted a friend, who then alerted her. "She sent a text message and said a gunman was in the building," Ms Lowery said after greeting her daughter with a screech of joy and a hug. "She saw him (the gunman) go by the classroom. "I'm so happy to see her come out of there," Ms Lowery said. "I'm relieved." The school has about 180 students and is located in a historic building in the downtown loft district. It opened as ...

euronews learning world - In business
www.euronews.com Running a company requires a variety of skills and abilities which increasing numbers of young business people are learning via management courses. But chosing the right one is not easy, and it is also important to remember ethics. Even the best business ideas can be sabotaged by bad practice. *Spain: mastering management* Richard Midikira from Kenya is studying in Madrid at the IE Business School, ranked in the World's Top Ten by the Financial Times: "The MIM programme is very intense, it gives you knowledge in different areas of business from operations and supply management to finance to marketing and accounting. So it makes you understand business from a very broad perspective and it puts you in a better position to give solutions to businesses from a broader perspective." The 'Master in Management' or MIM course is an international business programme for graduates with up to two years of experience. 93% of graduates from the course are employment within three months, many with large companies like Mackenzie, Google and Facebook. There are students of more than 40 nationalities currently enrolled on the course but this kind of education does not come cheap. The tuition fee is 30000 euros. *Ireland: kids in the boardroom* In Tralee, in Ireland, they are experimenting with one of the country's most ambitious educational schemes - the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. The idea is to talk about business with children aged between eight and 12 years old ...

Project Pink Floyd -Imperial College Business School [MSc Strategic Marketing]
This is a coursework involves helping and enhancing Pink Floyd [as a band and brand] to enhance its relationship with its consumers. The initiative surfaced from the reality that the band can't be complete again [members that passed] and how the remaining ones are not in good terms with each other. It is for a class project for Imperial College Business School MSc Strategic Marketing's Relationship Marketing course with Dr. Andreas E. Eisengerich. This appears to be a great way to further push Pink Floyd towards further resonance in the music industry esp. given that they could be as big as The Beatles with their accolades even though they are not. It's a missed potential that can be realised. Implicit and not mentioned in the video is that the investment justification for such an event can be recovered and profited from external media sales [music downloads, record purchases etc.] Whilst the event does not directly benefit Pink Floyd, given that proceeds go to charity, the potential positive externalities seem sufficient to warrant its staging from a business perspective. This comes esp. with the possibility of a new wave of audience [younger generations] to discover and patronise their works, opening the wealth of a completely new and huge market to capitalise on, whilst not eradicating current ones. Active and Passive Candidates on Social Media - SKEMA Business School Paris talk by Jorgen Sundberg
On social media, in particular professional networks like LinkedIn, Viadeo and Xing, it's estimated that about 20% of users are active candidates, 20% are passive candidates. This means companies can find qualified employees who are happy in their jobs via social media, as opposed to job boards where you typically only find active applicants.

euronews business planet - Taking business into Welsh schools
www.euronews.com For its latest edition, Business Planet goes to South Wales where there is a plan to develop education and business side-by-side. Each year, 350 entrepreneurs go into schools, colleges and universities, and as you'll see that's having a major impact on business start-ups by youngsters in Wales. At Bassaleg school on the outskirts of Newport, not far from Cardiff, the teacher this morning is Abi Carter. She set up her own forensic science company and at 29 years old she is also part of the "Dynamo Role Models" scheme, where Welsh entrepreneurs share their experience in schools. She explained what she does and passed on advice to those youngsters who might want to follow in her footsteps. Pupil Emma, 16, said: "Abi who spoke to us explained how you need to consider a lot of different elements. You need to look at the funding, you need to look at office space, your cost when you make a profit... It's a lot more complicated than we think it might be, but definitely rewarding at the end." Classmate Matt, also 16, added: "I didn't know that you could get things like grants and a scholarship, and that sort of thing, from the Welsh government and universities. I didn't even know that. So, I've definitely learnt that. Since the scheme was set up the number of people under the age of 30 who want to set up in business has leapt up. According to the European Commission, 20 per cent of those who take part in programmes like this will one day start their own enterprise ...
