Visiting Songtan 송탄 (American Army Base) in Pyeongtaek 평택, South Korea
We visited Songtan 송탄, an area known for an American Military Base (Osan Air Base), in Pyeongtaek 평택, South Korea. We experienced random encounters with dogs and racy night clubs. It was great to notice how many foreign food restaurant were located in this area including Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Mexican, Turkish, and Indian to name just a few. We also were on a quest to find deodorant which we eventually did locate. Overall out impression of this area was mixed. Although we enjoyed the diversity in food and shopping the area itself felt very artificial and fake and we would return to eat. nomadicsamuel.com & http : This is a Nomadic Samuel (Samuel Jeffery and That Backpacker (Audrey Bergner) video production. Songtan is an area in the northern end of Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggido, South Korea. Songtan achieved city status in its own right in 1981, five years earlier than Pyeongtaek, but merged, along with Pyeongtaek County, into Pyeongtaek City in May 1995.[1] Most residents still consider it to have an identity separate from the rest of Pyeongtaek City. At consolidation, Songtan had over 110000 residents, slightly less than the population of pre-consolidation Pyeongtaek City. The district has an administrative office which formerly served as Songtan City Hall. Songtan's best known feature is Osan Air Base, which spawned the growth of the area and is a major factor in the district's economy. Songtan Station serves Songtan, and connects Songtan to Seoul and other cities via ...

Downtown Pyeongtaek South Korea.mp4
Downtown Pyeongtaek is packed with stores and restaurants. It is only a twenty minute walk from my apartment. Downtown is a train station with a huge 6-story department store, very upscale. In front of the train station is a bus terminal. The trains and buses are very cheap. The train can have me in Seoul very quickly and costs only $5. I actually ate Sushi downtown that night and it cost $1.90. I will post a video of that soon.

My micro-apartment in Pyeongtaek Korea Part 1.mp4
This is my small apartment provided by the school, no complaints here. I actually like a small place to live, less cleaning and less energy consumption. I just wanted to say to my mother, no that isn't my motorcycle. I will make a part 2 describing the heating system, washing machine, and the kitchen.

Korean Train Ride (Mugunghwa - 무궁화) from Pyeongtaek to Seoul Station | Life In Korea
In this video we (Sam & Audrey) take the slow train from Pyeongtaek to Seoul. It was a last minute dash at the station, and we would not have made it had the train not been delayed. The Mugunghwa is the slowest train in Korea's rail network and can be used to travel around the country. It is the only train that offers standing class seats. Since we got there late, the seats where gone and we had to travel in the middle compartment until passengers got off. We witnessed various kinds of scenery along the way - including rural farmland, residential apartments and crossing the Han River. Sam was so excited to arrive he sang a little song as an instrumental "Let it Be" version of the Beatles song was playing in the background. Here you'll get to see the interior of the train, as well as part of Seoul Station. The Mugunghwa-ho or Mugunghwa is a class of train operated by Korail, the national railroad of South Korea. Mugunghwa trains are the cheapest class of trains to operate cross-country. Prior to the introduction of the KTX in 2004, they were the most common passenger train along most railroad lines. Along rural lines such as the Gyeongbuk Line, they remain the only class of passenger train operating. They (and in some cases the Tonggeun) are the only trains to stop at many stations not served by Saemaul-ho or KTX trains. Mugunghwa are built to accommodate large numbers of standing passengers, and frequently have many more standees than sitting passengers. In contrast, the ...

Korean Subway / Metro Ride from Pyeongtaek to Cheonan (buying a fan along the way)
In this video we take a Subway line number 1 (Korean Metro / Train) from Pyeongtaek 평택to Cheonan 천안. We barely make it on the train. Once inside we end up buying a paper fan from a vendor doing demonstrations on board. We show some of the scenery along the way and explain that in Cheonan we are on a quest for some Korean walnut cakes known as Hodu Gwacha 호두과자 which originates from there. nomadicsamuel.com & http : This is a Nomadic Samuel (Samuel Jeffery and That Backpacker (Audrey Bergner) video production. Korean Train Ride (Pyeongtaek 평택 to Daejeon 대전) - South Korea
We (Nomadic Samuel and That Backpacker) take a Mugunghwa 무궁화호 (slow train) from Pyeongtaek 평택 to Daejeon 대전. Highlights of the trip include eating a delicious Korean walnut cake snack (Hodugwaja - 호두과자) made with red bean paste and stuffed with walnuts. The one hour train ride itself was rather uneventful aside from somebody cutting their nails in a site up ahead. The rest of the footage is of scenery and some random goofy stuff. nomadicsamuel.com & http : This is a Nomadic Samuel (Samuel Jeffery and That Backpacker (Audrey Bergner) video production. Taking a Korean train from Pyeongtaek to Gwangju (Korail - Mugunghwa) 무궁화 | Life in Korea
In this travel video we (Audrey and Samuel) take a Korean train from Pyeongtaek to Gwangju. The journey is about 3.5 hours and we used the slowest Korail (Mugunghwa 무궁화) to get there. On board we enjoy some Korean snacks (Cheese bun and English muffin), act silly (as per usual) & show you clips of the scenery along the way. We both love taking the train and we were very exciting to start our two day weekend adventure. This is part of our Life in Korea series. Pyeongtaek University Group Stretching, Gangnam Style & Silly Foreigners Dancing in Korea
In this video we visited Pyeongtaek University with the intention of revisiting our University days of the past. What we encountered was a group of Koreans doing some kind of dance/sports rally activity on the main campus field. They started off doing group stretching and eventually moved on to singing and dancing Psy's - Gangnam Style. We suddenly were inspired to down our own foreigner version inside some photo booths and other areas around campus. This is definitely a silly video. nomadicsamuel.com Pyeongtaek is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Located in the southwestern part of the province, Pyeongtaek was founded as a union of two districts in 940, during the Goryeo dynasty. It was elevated to city status in 1986, and is home to a South Korean naval base and a large concentration of United States troops. The Korean government plans to transform Pyeongtaek city to an international economic hub to coincide with the move of the United States Forces Korea (USFK) to Pyeongtaek. During the Korean War it was the site of an early battle between US and North Korean forces, the Battle of Pyongtaek: en.wikipedia.org "Gangnam Style" (Korean: 강남스타일, IPA: [kaŋnam sɯtʰail]) is a single by South Korean rapper Psy. The song was released on July 15, 2012, as the lead single of his sixth studio album PSY's Best 6th Part 1. "Gangnam Style" debuted at number one on the Gaon Chart, the national record chart of South Korea.[1] As of October 6, 2012, the music video has been ...

Train ride from Pyeongtaek to Daecheon, South Korea
In this video we journey by train from Pyeongtaek to Daecheon for the Boryeong Mud Festival held annually in South Korea. On this particular trip, the train was packed beyond capacity and full of foreigners en route for festival. We managed to catch up on some sleep and at the end of the video you can see the splashes of mud we got on our clothes. nomadicsamuel.com & http : This is a Nomadic Samuel (Samuel Jeffery and That Backpacker (Audrey Bergner) video production. In this video we eat Korean style pizza outside of a local pizzeria in Anseong / Pyeongtaek 안성 / 평택, South Korea. My Apartment in Korea | Life in Korea | Samuel's Korean Apartment in Anseong / Pyeongtaek, Korea
Samuel gives us a tour of his Korean apartment in Anseong / Pyeongtaek, Korea. His apartment in Korea is very standard - small space, high rise, etc. Before taking us on a tour he shows us his candy cane green stripped socks. If that wasn't quirky enough he takes us into his Korean bedroom and has a bizarre dance party with his girlfriend Audrey. Once that is over he shows us his kitchen which is nearly bare aside from a few condiments. After demonstrating his skills at picking up a butter knife with chopsticks he brings us to his bathroom. A typical Korean bathroom is wet on the floors and flip flops are necessary to move around. The bathroom is atypically clean which is a surprise to both him and Audrey. Next up is a tour of the spare room which is more of a storage facility than anything else; however, he does show off his swanky new orange camera bag. Finally we take a look at his balcony where the laundry machine is located. Views from the outside reveal rice fields and a parking lot. As per usual, there are plenty of bloopers at the end.
