George Mikan - Mr. Basketball
George Lawrence Mikan, Jr. (June 18, 1924 -- June 1, 2005), nicknamed Mr. Basketball, was an American professional basketball player for the Chicago American Gears of the National Basketball League (NBL) and the Minneapolis Lakers of the NBL, the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Invariably playing with thick, round spectacles, the 6 ft 10 in 245 lb. Mikan is seen as one of the pioneers of professional basketball, redefining it as a game of so-called big men with his prolific rebounding, shot blocking and his talent to shoot over smaller defenders with his ambidextrous hook shot. Mikan had a successful player career, winning seven NBL, BAA and NBA championships, an All-Star MVP trophy, three scoring titles and being member of the first four NBA All-Star and the first six All-BAA and All-NBA Teams. Mikan was so dominant that he caused several rule changes in the NBA, among them widening the foul lane — known as the "Mikan Rule" — and introducing the shot clock. For his feats, Mikan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959, made the 25th and 35th NBA Anniversary Teams of 1970 and 1980 and was elected one of the NBA 50 Greatest Players in 1996. Since April 2001, a statue of Mikan shooting his trademark hook shot graces the entrance of the Timberwolves' Target Center.

ABA founder Dennis Murphy hires George Mikan as its 1st commissioner
This trailer is taken from the brand new documentary special, a new look at the history of the ABA, "The Renegade League", produced by Dr. Elliott Haimoff of Afterburner Enterprises and Randy Friend/JoAnn Fox/Jose Sanchez of Screaming Eagle Productions. The clip tells of how against all odds, the ABA founder Dennis Murphy convinced NBA icon George Mikan to join Murphy's ABA league and become the league's first commissioner. Interviewees in this clip include the ABA founder Dennis Murphy and former Harlem Globetrotters owner Jerry Saperstein, who was there at the first meeting between Murphy & Mikan.

All Time Lakers Centers Artmorph: Abdul Jabbar, O'Neal, Mikan, Wilt, Divac
What happens when you merge (Photoshop) the faces of Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, Vlade Divac and George Mikan? Sorry Wilt! I couldnt find any good pictures of you to use (even though you have a MUCH better statistical case than Divac (Although Divac was traded for Kobe Bryant). Anyway enjoy the Lakers All Time Centers Morph.

T'Wolves @ Lakers, 2002 (1940s alternates)
4-11-2002. Lakers honored the championships won in MPLS and retired a banner w/ the names of various Lakers from that period. They are wearing the jerseys first worn by the MPLS franchise from the late 40s until 195(?). Jim Pollard had passed away in 1993 and was posthumously honored. George Mikan died in 2005, but the rest of the old Lakers, including Coach Kundla, are still kickin. This was also Chick Hearn's 2nd game back from a hip injury (preceded by heart surgery). He passed away 4 months later. This was a very ugly game and not a lot of highlights, so I included filler. LA only made 4 FGs in the 4th, iirc.
