Parallel Race: Duronto Overtaking Indian Express Train of INDIAN RAILWAYS
12278 Puri Howrah Duronto Express in parallel action with Trivandrum Shalimar SF express. both got green signal for a long time nd drivers of both the Wap4 were outstanding. The race was indeed fascinating.......... i feel lucky to be a part of it. Duronto Express ("Rebel" or "rebellious" or "Restless" in a positive way) is a category of long distance trains run by the Indian Railways. The special feature of these trains is that they run non-stop from source to destination, barring technical halts. All Duronto Express trains can be easily recognized by the characteristic yellow-green livery of their passenger coaches. Several Duronto Express services connect the metros and major state capitals of India. The Duronto Express trains are projected to be the fastest trains between the particular pair of cities they serve, although this is not necessarily true for all services. Since several years, the Government of India's Ministry of Railways (India) has been trying to introduce high speed rail in India. In 2007, the ministry chose the 500-kilometre stretch between Delhi and Amritsar for a pre-feasibility study.[1] The cost for setting up the Delhi-Amritsar corridor is estimated to be around Rs 25000 crores. On 19 January 2009, the former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav said that his ministry was in the process of appointing global consultants for introducing the high-speed trains on certain routes.Besides the Delhi-Amritsar route, Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Hyderabad-Dornakal ...

India's Longest Daily Train Kerala Express :)
Note - Longest running train on Indian Railways is Dibrugarh Kanyakumari Vivek express (4243 km) which is a weekly train. Kerala express runs daily - 3036 km. It was 2 years back, April 27th my RF began accidentally with Kerala express and so I thought of paying a small tribute to the same train. Karaoke courtesy - Adarsh Ranjith www.youtube.com Earlier days used to run in green yellow livery as Kerala Karnataka express double headed. It had first class too. It had only 5 halts inside Kerala and did New Delhi Jhansi non stop. Stations like Kayankulam junction never existed !!! Selected this music due to rhythmic train beats. Last train is not Kerala express. Some already known facts - - Longest running daily train. - 100% occupancy all 365 days with passengers sleeping on floors during peak seasons - Only daily train connecting North with Tirupati. - Touches 9 Indian States including Rajasthan. - Though always rattling, derailment free history at least until now. Thanks to all my subscribers, friends and foes. Only 1 thing can stop me from giving you all train videos - death !!!

Rajdhani Blast: Very High Speed Rajdhani Express Overtakes on Indian Railways
Courtesy a rather illogical departure time of 1620, the 12304 and 12382 New Delhi Howrah Poorva Express is subjected to over an hour's halt where it is overtaken by four Rajdhanis and the Sampoorna Kranti Express. Captured in this video are 4 Rajdhanis which storm past the 12382 New Delhi Howrah Poorva Express like there is no tomorrow. We are first halted at Ajaibpur, 25 km east of Ghaziabad, where the Ghaziabad WAP7 hauled 12314 Sealdah Rajdhani Express shrieks by with its 19 coach load at 130 kmph flat. We resume our journey for another 31 kilometres (which, to the Poorva's credit, we covered in 20 minutes) till Sikandarpur, just before Khurja where we are halted for forty minutes. Three more Rajdhanis blasts past us here: first on the list is the King of ER, 12302 Howrah Rajdhani Express, which charges through with a Ghaziabad WAP7 at 129 kmph, hooting loudly in a shrill voice. The Rajdhani was a 21 coach affair on this day, the longest I have seen it and augmented with an additional First AC (3 First AC coaches in all). Following closely on its heels came the 12310 Rajendranagar/Patna Rajdhani Express at 128 kmph, honking loudly with a Mughal Sarai WAP4. Last on the list was 22812 Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express, which thunders past with a Ghaziabad WAP4, headlights fully switched on, hauling its puny 13 coach rake at a measly 122 kmph!

2008 Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy - Why Good Economics Works for Everyone
SPEAKER : The Honourable P Chidambaram, Finance Minister, Government of India SYNOPSIS : A View from the Outside; Why Good Economics Works for Everyone, by Indian Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, gives a rare insight into the mind of an economic policy-maker, lawyer, politician and administrator. Into its fourth-print run, a bestseller with over 15000 books sold in India, the book is a compilation of columns by Chidambaram, originally published in The Indian Express and The Financial Express. The Honourable Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh released the book on 22nd January 2007. The columns were written from 2002 to 2004 when the BJP-led NDA was in power at the Center. The collection covers subjects as varied as economy from agriculture and reforms to forex reserves tax policies to politics and social issues. More than reactions to events and developments, Chidambarams columns provide a deep understanding of the problems that the Indian economy faces and the ways to solve them. On occasions, the columns become notes from one Finance Minister to another. DATE : TIME : ORGANISER:

Riz Khan - The Indo-Pak express of peace
Can an unlikely tennis duo from India and Pakistan bridge the bitter political divide between their two countries? We will be talking to Pakistani tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and his Indian counterpart Rohan Bopanna who have formed a unique partnership as a doubles team on the international tennis circuit. It is the first time a Pakistani and an Indian have paired up to play on the same side in professional sport. That has generated global headlines with the international media calling them "ambassadors of peace" and the "Indo-Pak express." Both Qureshi and Bopanna themselves have started a movement called "Stop War Start Tennis." They are among the top eight doubles teams in the world and made the final of the US Open in September.

ABOUT PATANG
A poetic journey to the old city of Ahmedabad, PATANG weaves together the stories of six people transformed by the energy of India's largest kite festival. Every year a million kites fill the skies above Ahmedabad-dueling, soaring, tumbling and flying high. When a successful Delhi businessman takes his daughter on a surprise trip back to his childhood home for the festival, an entire family has to confront its own fractured past and fragile dreams. With naturalistic performances from actors and non-actors alike, bold, lyrical editing, vibrant cinematography and a kinetic score, Patang delights the senses and nourishes the spirit.
PATANG celebrated its world premiere at the BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL and its North American premiere in competition at the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL. Showcased at over 30 film festivals to sold out audiences - including the CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF LOS ANGELES, MILL VALLEY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, VANCOUVER FILM FESTIVAL and ROGER EBERT’S FILM FESTIVAL. Winner of the Best Feature Narrative at the HAWAII INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, Best World Narrative at the INDY FILM FESTIVAL, Special Jury Award at the OSIANS FILM FESTIVAL in New Delhi, and the Best Feature Narrative at the DC APA FILM FESTIVAL.
4 STARS - "Hypnotically beautiful visuals...woven into a kaleidoscope of colors, faces, music and a little romance... Bhargava is MASTERFUL." -Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUNTIMES - bit.ly/KG4gf8
NEW YORK TIMES CRITICS PICK - "Prashant Bhargava’s first feature, has a lovely, unforced quality." - Rachel Saltz, NEW YORK TIMES - nyti.ms/KqRyEc
"UPLIFTING... COLORFULLY VIVID - Reminiscent of Wong Kai Wai" - Robert Abel, LOS ANGELES TIMES - lat.ms/MLg3cb
"VISUALLY POETIC... There are few things more difficult to pull off than elegant visual poetry. The line between pretension and artful provocation is a thin one indeed, and any director that attempts to construct a metaphorical mosaic runs the risk of looking foolish. Yet cinema would sure be a dull medium without artists that aimed for the stars, and that is precisely what Prashant Bhargava does in his debut feature, PATANG (The Kite)... This is the sort of gorgeously photographed picture that practically begs to be seen on the biggest screen possible. It stands as a reminder of what truly absorbs a viewer into a film... Warrants comparison to the work of cinema’s great poet, Terence Malick." - Matt Fagerholm, HOLLYWOOD CHICAGO -bit.ly/LpRWk6
"GORGEOUS" - Jonathon Crow, YAHOO MOVIES
"A movie that's so lyrical, so heartfelt and so intimate that it feels like you're reading someone's diary rather than watching a movie. Like going through their childhood photo albums. Every frame of this film feels like a snapshot of a very private moment between the director and the city of Ahmedabad, with its kites in the sky, its busy streets, its cascading rooftops and its fascinating people." - DOLCE & NAMAK TALK INDIAN MOVIES - bit.ly/MNA2VZ
"Patang is an art film in the highest definition that is filled with both exciting scenes, beautiful pictures and quiet moments, where a look or an action literally takes your breathe away." - Stacey Y, BOLLYSPICE - bit.ly/KiPeiF
"Everything about Prashant Bhargava’s film will draw you in and make you feel a part of this place – the story, the visuals, the sounds, the music, the characters – especially the characters. But what will linger once the film is done are the moments of pure poetry" - TOTALLY FILMI - bit.ly/MMTarF
"The cast—a blend of seasoned pros and some truly gifted beginners—is flawless... Patang soars as high as anyone could possibly wish." - John Ketich, THE STRAIGHT - bit.ly/PBa0ts
"The beauty in PATANG is in its simplicity. No crazy chase scenes, to big action, no fancy whiz-bang editing or CG, just a story well told. No one is going to mistake this for a documentary, the film is far too graceful to be accidental, however, the film holds sway over the audience by allowing them to feel privy to someone else's traumas that feel eerily familiar." - J. Hurtado,TWITCH - bit.ly/L2qPPz
"The setup is as cross-culturally durable as anything in Chekhov or Ozu or Kiarostami." Bhargava "is a humanist and a real talent" - Michael Phillips, CHICAGO TRIBUNE
“Bhargava knows when to stop and catch the right, fleeting expressions and gestures. There’s a gentleness in this snapshot of a family and all its baggage that seems almost effortless.” - THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
"An unexpected, warm and engaging masterpiece. Outstanding camera work - precisely how I shoot my own films!" - Michael Nyman, Composer (Gattaca, The Piano)

The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
The inaugural Henry Cole Lecture, held at the V&A; Museum in London on 30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum' was delivered by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Transcript:
Mark Jones: The annual Henry Cole lecture has been initiated to celebrate Henry Cole's legacy and to explore the contribution that culture can make to education and society today. It has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the Sackler Centre for arts education, including the Hochhauser Auditorium in which we sit tonight. There could be no one better than Professor Sir Christopher Frayling to give the inaugural Henry Cole Lecture. Christopher is a rare being: an intellectual who is a great communicator; a theorist who has a firm grip on the practical realities of life: a writer who truly and instinctively understands the words of making design and visual communication. As an enormously successful and respected Rector of the Royal College of Art, as Chairman of the Arts Council, and as a member and chair of boards too numerous to mention - but not forgetting the Royal Mint Advisory Committee which has recently been responsible for redesigning the coinage (personal interest) and as by far the longest-serving Trustee of the V&A;, he brings together culture, education and public service in a way which Henry Cole would have approved and admired. So it's more than fitting that he should be giving this first Henry Cole Lecture, 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum'.
CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING:
Thank you very much indeed Mark and thank you very much for inviting me to give this first Henry Cole Lecture. Just how much of an honour it is for me will I hope become clear as the lecture progresses.
Mark, Chairpeople, ladies and gentlemen:
Hidden away in the garden of the South Kensington Museum - now the Madejski Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: 'In Memory of Jim Died 1879 Aged 15 Years, Faithful Dog of Sir Henry Cole of this Museum'. Jim had in fact died on 30 January 1879. He was with Henry Cole in his heyday, as the king of South Kensington - its museums and colleges - and saw him through to retirement from the public service and beyond. And next to this inscription there's another one dedicated to Jim's successor, Tycho, and dated 1885. The dogs are actually buried in the garden. Now we know from Henry Cole's diary that between 1864 and 1879 Jim, who was a cairn terrier, was often to be seen in public at his master's side. In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the Great Exhibition of 1851 just behind the Albert Hall - a statue of Prince Albert by Joseph Durham on a lofty plinth covered in statistics about the income, expenditure and visitor numbers to the Great Exhibition: 6,039,195 to be exact. Cole had been a tireless champion of Prince Albert and according to the Princess Royal (later Empress of Prussia) there was a family saying in Buckingham Palace at the time, invented by Albert himself, that when things needed doing 'when we want steam we must get Cole'. We may therefore assume that when looking at the memorial, Cole was interested in the inscription, the statistics and the likeness of Prince Albert, while Jim was more interested in the possibilities of the plinth. In early 1866 - these are five studies of Jim, an etching by Henry Cole himself of 1864. In early 1866, first thing in the morning, soon after the workmen's bell had rung, Henry and Jim would set forth together from Cole's newly constructed official residence in the Museum (where he moved in July 1863) to tour the building sites of South Kensington - a name which was first invented by Cole when he re-named the museum The South Kensington Museum to describe the new developments happening around Brompton Church. According to 'The Builder' magazine, these two well-known figures would 'be seen clambering over bricks, mortar and girders up ladders and about scaffolding'. Several buildings in the South Kensington Renaissance Revival style were springing up all around them: The Natural History Museum, The College of Science, the extension to this Museum. And on the morning the Bethnal Green Museum opened - 24 June 1872 - Jim showed a healthy distaste for his master's well-known predilection for pomp and
