Archaeological Evidence for the Biblical tale of the Execution of Jesus
Archaeological Evidence for the Biblical tale of the Execution of Jesus
Archaeologists search for clues to support the Biblical tale of the execution of Jesus. (Biblical Mysteries EP17) The crucifixion of Jesus is an event that occurred during the 1st century AD. Jesus, whom Christians believe to be the Son of God as well as the Messiah, was arrested, tried, and sentenced by Pontius Pilate to be scourged, and finally crucified. Collectively referred to as the Passion, Jesus' redemptive suffering and death by crucifixion represent the central aspects of Christian theology, including the doctrines of salvation and atonement. Jesus' crucifixion is described in all four Canonical gospels, attested to by other ancient sources, and is firmly established as an historical event confirmed by non-Christian sources. Christians believe Jesus' suffering was foretold in the Hebrew Bible, such as in Psalm 22, and Isaiah's songs of the suffering servant. According to a Gospel Harmony, Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane following the Last Supper with the Twelve Apostles, and forced to stand trial before the Sanhedrin, Pontius Pilate, and Herod Antipas, before being handed over for crucifixion. After being flogged, Jesus was mocked by Roman soldiers as the "King of the Jews", clothed in a purple robe, crowned with thorns, beaten and spat on. Jesus then had to make his way to the place of his crucifixion. Once at Golgotha, Jesus was offered wine mixed with gall to drink. Matthew's and Mark's Gospels record that he refused this. He was then crucified and hung between two convicted thieves. According to Mark's Gospel, he endured the torment of crucifixion for some six hours from the third hour, at approximately 9 am, until his death at the ninth hour, corresponding to about 3 pm. The soldiers affixed a sign above his head stating "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews" in three languages, divided his garments and cast lots for his seamless robe. The Roman soldiers did not break Jesus' legs, as they did to the other two men crucified (breaking the legs hastened the crucifixion process), as Jesus was dead already. Each gospel has its own account of Jesus' last words, seven statements altogether. In the Synoptic Gospels, various supernatural events accompany the crucifixion, including darkness, an earthquake, and (in Matthew) the resurrection of saints. Following Jesus' death, his body was removed from the cross by Joseph of Arimathea and buried in a rock-hewn tomb, with Nicodemus assisting. According to the Gospels, Jesus then rose from the dead two days later ("the third day"). In the New Testament all four Gospels conclude with an extended narrative of the Jesus' arrest, trial, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. In each Gospel these five events in the life of Jesus are treated with more intense detail than any other portion of that Gospel's narrative. Scholars note that the reader receives an almost hour-by-hour account of what is happening.:p.91 Christians have traditionally understood Jesus' death on the cross to be a knowing and willing sacrifice (given that he did not mount a defense in his trials) which was undertaken as an "agent of God" to atone for humanity's sin and make salvation possible. Most Christians proclaim this sacrifice through the bread and wine of the Eucharist, as a remembrance of the Last Supper, and many also commemorate the event on Good Friday each year.- published: 12 Dec 2013

Archaeological Evidence that Neanderthals were Highly Developed
Archaeological Evidence that Neanderthals were Highly Developed
Think the Neanderthals were a bunch of ignorant cave men? Think again, says renowned author of over a hundred books from "The Outsider" in 1956 to the Atlantis Blueprint with Rand Flem-Ath that established a new basis for research into the Atlantis story. Now he's out with "Atlantis and the Kingdom of the Neanderthals," an astonishment of a new book that offers phenomenal archaeological evidence that Neanderthals had a highly developed culture. Listen as Colin takes us on a journey into the past as we have never seen it before in this thrilling interview. The Neanderthals or Neandertals (/niˈændərˌθɔːlz/, /niˈændərˌtɔːlz/, /niˈændərˌtɑːlz/, /neɪˈɑːndərˌtɑːlz/ or /niˈændərθəlz/)[1] are an extinct species of the genus Homo, possibly a subspecies of Homo sapiens. They are closely related to modern humans, differing in DNA by only 0.3%, just twice the variability across contemporary humans. Remains left by Neanderthals include bones and stone tools, which are found from western Europe to central Asia. The species is named after Neandertal ("Neander's Valley"), the location in Germany where it was first discovered. Neanderthals are classified either as a subspecies of Homo sapiens (Homo sapiens neanderthalensis) or as a separate species of the same genus (Homo neanderthalensis). The first humans with proto-Neanderthal traits are believed to have existed in Europe as early as 600,000--350,000 years ago. The exact date of their extinction is disputed. Fossils found in the Vindija Cave in Croatia have been dated to between 33,000 and 32,000 years old, and Neanderthal artifacts from Gorham's Cave in Gibraltar are believed to be less than 30,000 years old, but a recent study has redated fossils at two Spanish sites as 45,000 years old, 10,000 years older than previously thought, and may cast doubt on recent datings of other sites. Cro-Magnon (early-modern-human) skeletal remains showing some "Neanderthal traits" have been found in Lagar Velho (Portugal) and dated to 24,500 years ago, suggesting that there may have been an extensive admixture of the Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal populations in that region. Several cultural assemblages have been linked to the Neanderthals in Europe. The earliest, the Mousterian stone tool culture, dates to about 300,000 years ago. Late Mousterian artifacts were found in Gorham's Cave on the south-facing coast of Gibraltar. Other tool cultures associated with the Neanderthals include the Châtelperronian, the Aurignacian, and the Gravettian; their tool assemblages appear to have developed gradually within their populations, rather than being introduced by new population groups arriving in the region. With an average cranial capacity of 1600cc Neanderthal's cranial capacity is known to be notably larger than all races of modern humans on average, indicating that their brain size was at least as large, if not larger. In 2008, a group of scientists produced a study using three-dimensional computer-assisted reconstructions of Neanderthal infants based on fossils found in Russia and Syria. The study indicated that Neanderthal and modern human brains were the same size at birth, but by adulthood, the Neanderthal brain was larger than the modern human brain. They were much stronger than modern humans, having particularly strong arms and hands. Males stood 164--168 cm (65--66 in) and females about 152--156 cm (60--61 in) tall. Genetic evidence published in 2010 suggests that Neanderthals contributed to the DNA of anatomically modern humans, probably through interbreeding between 80,000 and 50,000 years ago with the population of anatomically modern humans who had recently migrated from Africa. According to the study, by the time that population began dispersing across Eurasia, Neanderthals genes constituted as much as 1--4% of its genome (roughly equivalent to having one Neanderthal great-great-great-grandparent). Ötzi the iceman, Europe's oldest preserved mummy, was found to possess an even higher percentage of Neanderthal ancestry.- published: 25 Nov 2013

Pacific System Homes
Los Angeles based, Pacific System Ready Cut Homes began in 1908, and by 1939 it was the largest builder of homes in the world. During the depression, the company founder's son, Meyers Butte came on board. He convinced the family that manufacturing surfboards would be a good way to diversify the company's business. The Swastika name and symbol were chosen for their "connotations of health and good fortune." PSH was the first company to mass-produce surfboards. Earliest archaeological evidence of the swastika symbol dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization of Ancient India as well as Classical Antiquity. The symbol remains widely used in Eastern religions, specifically in Hinduism and Buddhism, and was also used by various Native American tribes. After the Nazi party usurped the Swastika symbol, PSH changed the name of their line of surfboards to the "Waikiki Model

The Body Snatchers: Corpse and Effect
When you bury family members in a cemetery, you expect them to stay there. Not so 200 years ago, however, when body snatchers prowled the nation's burial grounds looking for subjects. An acute shortage of bodies eligible for dissection by student doctors in the late 17th century drove this cottage industry until the Anatomy Act of 1832, when dead bodies of all the unclaimed poor could legally undergo dissection. But what was the fate of these bodies after they were exhumed? A new book by Cambridge researcher Dr Piers Mitchell and colleagues from around the UK has brought together, for the first time, archaeological evidence of the fate of the corpses that helped improve understanding of how the human body worked.
The research described here has been published in 'Anatomical Dissection in Enlightenment England and Beyond: autopsy, pathology and display' (2012), edited by Piers Mitchell, Ashgate Publishing Company.

Old Testament Survey - Lesson 24, Part 3: Judges - Archaeology
In a courtroom, a lawyer must learn how to handle the facts. The good facts, the bad facts, and the facts that have no bearing on his case. So, how does a good attorney handle all of the facts of the case? According to Mark Lanier, trial lawyer and lecturer, the best way to do this is to recognize all of the facts. All of the facts make up the whole story. Therefore all of the facts make up the truth!
This same principle applies to archaeology, specificaly, biblical archaeology and even more specifically, archaeological issues surrounding the book of Judges. Join Mark Lanier as he presents the archaeological evidence surrounding Judges and suggests the evidence is not to be used to prove the Bible. Instead, its best service is to help put the Bible into an historical context for increased understanding.

1 Timothy 6:13 Is the Bible historically true? Did the events really happen, and do the people really exist? Many secular scholars have said no, but exciting archaeological evidence, unearthed in Israel, is supporting the accuracy of the Bible. Our visit to Israel allowed us to see some of these findings in person. Join us as I share stories and evidence that affirms the historicity of the Bible.
