Milpitas, CA (October 5) -- Does everybody knows who Dr. Jose Rizal is? Well, he is the national hero of the Republic of the Philippines.
The country is located in Southeast Asia in the Western Pacific Ocean. To its north across the Luzon Strait lies Taiwan; west across the South China Sea sits Vietnam; the Sulu Sea to the Southwest lies between the country and the island of Borneo; and to the south the Celebes Sea that separates it from other islands of Indonesia.
The Bayanihan Movement, Inc. (BMI), a non-profit organization, in partnersip with the Filipino American Community at Stanford, will host a poetry reading session about Rizal's works dubbed as "Revisiting Rizal -- A celebration of Poetry and Music", at the Milpitas Library Auditorium at 160 North Main Street, Milpitas, California on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The event is part of the celebration of Filipino American History Month, which month of October, was proclaimed by Mayor Jose Esteves as Filipino American History Month in Milpitas. The proclamation will be received by BMI during the City Council's regular session on October 18, 2011 at the Milpitas City Hall.
The event will start and end on time with Filipiniana or business casual attire. The event is free, open to the public but requires seated reservation, and refreshments will be served, according to BMI President Evangeline "Angel" Valbuena.
In the spirit of bayanihan, which is the spirit of bringing people together to accomplish a task, the event is made possible through personal contributions in whatever way they can.
October is a special month for Filipino Americans commemorating Filipino heritage by showcasing Jose Rizal, the country's national hero.
