The Grammis Awards are the Swedish equivalent of the Grammy Awards. The awards ceremony is generally held each year in February in Stockholm city of Mosseb. The awards were established in 1969 and awarded until 1972 when they were cancelled. In 1987, Grammis returned to Swedish musical life.

Tove Anna Linnéa Östman Styrke^[1][2] (born 19 November 1992^[2] in Umeå), known as Tove Styrke, is a Swedish singer, songwriter, pianist, and model. She rose to prominence as a contestant on Swedish Idol 2009, finishing in third place.^[3] After Idol 2009, she started a solo career as an electropop singer and songwriter. She released her debut album Tove Styrke in 2010. The New York Post included Tove Styrke in its list of "10 Artists to Know in 2011".^[4]

Early life[link]

Tove Styrke was born in Umeå, Sweden. She has two sisters, one younger and one older.^[2][5] Her father, musician Anders Östman, scored a Swedish number one hit in the 1970s.^[6] He opened a music store after he stopped touring.^[7] Anders Östman introduced Tove to guitar when she was a child, but she preferred the piano, being encouraged by her piano teacher grandfather.^[6]

Her mother, Anna, a former dancer and ballet instructor, is the manager of a ballet academy and enrolled Tove in dance classes at an early age.^[7] Tove Styrke began performing as a vocalist in a local jazz band in her high school years.^[7]

Tove Styrke modeled for various publications including Glamour and Cosmopolitan,^[6] before she was discovered by Anders Bagge during his tour for Swedish Idol 2009. On this competition, Styrke performed songs by Whitney Houston, The Killers, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, U2, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Katy Perry, Sandi Thom, Eurythmics, Russ Ballard, Ted Gärdestad, Bobby Darin and The Sounds.^[8] She finished third, after Calle Kristiansson and the winner Erik Grönwall.^[6]

After Idol 2009, Styrke was signed by Sony Music label in December 2009.^[7] In June 2010, she released her first single, "Million Pieces", co-written by Adam Olenius from Shout Out Louds and by Lykke Li.^[9]

In 12 November 2010, she released her debut album, Tove Styrke. The album has been produced by Patrik Berger, Lotus & 2manyfreckles, Peter Ågren, Janne Kask and Paw. Most tracks have been written by Tove Styrke, Patrik Berger, Peter Ågren and Janne Kask. The album will be later released in March 2012 in Germany with two new songs: "Call My Name" and "Sticks and Stones".

The second single, "White Light Moment", charted at number 5 on the Swedish top singles chart and has been certified gold.^[10] "White Light Moment" has been nominated for "Best Song of the Year" at Grammisgalan 2012 (the Swedish Grammy Awards).

In January 2011, Styrke won the "Best Newcomer" award at P3 Guld.^[11] At ceremony, she performed a remixed version by Familijen of "Million Pieces". At the end of February 2011, Tove Styrke issued her first EP, High and Low, featuring six remixes of the title track. In April 2011, Styrke featured in an IKEA commercial, where she performed the Swedish lullaby "Byssan Lull".^[12]

On 19 August 2011, the single "Call My Name" was released on digital download. The song has peaked to number 28 on the Swedish Singles Chart. "Call My Name" has been nominated for "Best Song of the Year" at P3 Guld.^[13] Also in August 2011, the temporary band Kedjan that included Styrke and various Swedish artists, released in Sweden the charity single "Ringar på vattnet" ("Ripple Effect").^[14]

In September 2011, the Swedish band Caotico released the single "Brains Out", featuring Tove Styrke.^[15] She also appeared on "Brains Out" music video.

Anders Fridén (born 25 March 1973) is the vocalist/lyricist of the Swedish band In Flames, as well as the side-project, Passenger.^[2]

Early career[link]

Fridén was originally the vocalist for Dark Tranquillity. He performed on their debut album, Skydancer, but left the band soon after.^[3] Two years later he joined In Flames. Coincidentally Mikael Stanne had left In Flames (being only a session player) and switched from rhythm guitar to lead vocals in Dark Tranquillity, so the two effectively traded places. Anders was also the lead vocalist for another band known as Ceremonial Oath with In Flames founder Jesper Strömblad.

1995-present: In Flames[link]

Fridén started with In Flames on the 1995 album The Jester Race. On the album Whoracle, Niklas Sundin (of Dark Tranquillity) wrote the lyrics following the original synopsis by Fridén. On the 1999 album Colony, Fridén composed the lyrics himself, though Sundin still assisted by translating his lyrics from Swedish to English. His lyrics have evolved from abstract themes such as astrology and fantasy, to more personal endeavours such as depression and inner struggles.

He is also the vocalist for the band Passenger as a side project, but has stated recently that he now has very little time for the project, and it is on hold.^{[citation needed]}

Fridén also has done guest vocals on the album The Phantom Novels, by the metal band Grievance. He is the lead vocalist on the tracks Atrocity Upon Deceptions, A Devil's Rhyme and The Mask of Sin.

In 2007 Fridén appeared as a guest vocalist on the Japanese bonus track "See the Falling Sky" on Caliban's 2007 album "The Awakening". As well as providing vocals for the track "Dysfunctional Hours" for the 20th anniversary Nuclear Blast Allstars compilation album, Out of the Dark.

His look changed dramatically following the release of In Flames 2002 release Reroute to Remain. His previously clean-shaven look was replaced with a beard, and his long hair was put into dreadlocks. His vocal style has also changed, especially on the past three records. His low-tone, harsh death growl has evolved into a higher pitched scream (done in the fry scream technique), which is now supplemented by clean vocals and layers of backing vocals.

In addition to being a vocalist, Fridén is also a producer, with his most recent efforts being the albums: The Undying Darkness by Caliban in 2006 and Absolute Design by the band Engel in 2007.

He also co-wrote and performed scream vocals on the song "Self Versus Self", which appears on the third album of UK/Australian drum and bass band Pendulum alongside his bandmates Björn Gelotte and Peter Iwers.

More recently in the Summer of 2010, Fridén changed his appearance again by making the decision to cut off his dreadlocks which he had grown since the release of Reroute to Remain.

Fridén has an extensively large DVD collection. His favorite quote is, "The one with the most DVDs when you die, wins."

Fridén is also a fan of alcohol and collects whisky. In an interview with Metal Hammer, he spoke about how over the years he has acquired a taste for fine whiskey, and how "it's stupid to get drunk on fine whiskey, there's other stuff for that."

He is a supporter of the Swedish football club IFK Göteborg.

Eric Saade (Arabic: اريك سعادة‎ Īrik Saʿāda, IPA: [ˈiːrik saʔaːdɐ]; Swedish pronunciation: [ˈeː.ˈrɪk sa.ˈaː.ˈdɛ]; born 29 October 1990 in Kattarp, Helsingborg, Sweden) is a Swedish singer. Eric Saade grew up in Kattarp, Sweden with his Swedish mother and Palestinian father. His parents divorced when Saade was four years old. He is the second oldest of eight siblings and half siblings.

When he was six years old, Saade first sang on a stage at his mother's wedding. He has been writing songs since he was 13 years old. He got his first record deal when he was 15 years old. Before starting his solo career, Saade was in the boyband What's Up!.^[1]

2009: Beginnings[link]

In summer 2009, Saade hosted the Swedish music competition My Camp Rock, a camp inspirated by the Disney Channel movie Camp Rock. In the same year, he hosted the nationwide contest Julia's Shooting Stars.

In August 2009, Saade signed with the Swedish record label Roxy Recordings.

On 21 December 2009, Saade released his first single Sleepless, written by Fredrik Kempe and Peter Boström as a download single worldwide on iTunes.^[2] The song reached #44 in Sweden. The music video premiered on 22 January 2010 and was directed by Anders Rune.^[3]

2010: Melodifestivalen[link]

On 12 February 2010, Saade performed in the second semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2010,^[4] the Swedish pre-decision for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song "Manboy" written by Fredrik Kempe and Peter Boström^[2] as number one. He won that semi-final.^[5] He came in third place. The song was released on 3 March 2010 in Sweden. The single reached #1 in Sweden and in the Swedish ringtone Charts. In June 2010, the single has reached Platinum status there.^[6] The music video of the acoustic version premiered on 25 March 2010.^[7] The acoustic version was released on 10 May 2010 in Sweden.^[8]

In January 2010, Saade won one Scandipop Award in the category Brightest New Hope for 2010.^[9]

In March 2010, Saade was nominated for one Marcel Bezençon Award (Melodifestivalen) in the category Press Award for Manboy. He also won one in the category Artistic Award for the same song. Saade released his first solo album Masquerade on 19 May 2011.^[10] The album reached #2 in Sweden and reached Gold status there. After the release of his debut album, Saade went on his first tour called Masquerade Tour. The tour went from 9 June 2010 until 11 September 2010 with 24 concerts in Sweden.

On 19 February 2011, Saade competed a second time Melodifestivalen. He performed in the third semi-final with the number eight^[17] and won the final with the song Popular written by Fredrik Kempe and produced by Peter Boström on 12 March 2011 with 193 points.^[18] On 14 April 2011, the music video of the song premiered.

On 12 May 2011, Saade competed with the number eight in the second semi-final of Eurovision Song Contest 2011. He reached the final as the last contestant. It was later revealed that he won the semi-final. On 14 May 2011, Saade competed with the number seven in the final. He placed on the third place. That is Sweden's best position since 1999 when Charlotte Perrelli won with the song Take Me to Your Heaven. It also is the fifth third place for Sweden in Eurovision history. In January 2011, Saade was nominated for six Scandipop Awards in the categories Best Single from a New Artist for It's Gonna Rain and Manboy, Best Male Single for the same songs, Best Male Album for Masquerade and Best New Artist. He also won two awards in the categories Best Album from a New Artist for Masquerade and Best Male.^[34]

Also in January 2011, Saade was nominated for one Grammi in the category Song of the Year for Manboy.^[35]

On 14 January 2011, Saade released the first single Still Loving It from his second album, written by Saade, Niclas Lundin and Anton Malmberg Hård Af Segerstad,^[36] in Sweden.^[37]
