August 9, 1951 - Frank Vittor
The colossus that never happened and the 1951 Steelers.
"Great to see the great sculptor Frank Vittor in motion with a model of his proposed sculpture that would tower 100 feet over the Point. After studying art in Milan in his native Italy, he went to Paris where he studied under Auguste Rodin. Coming to Pittsburgh after a stint in New York (cut short because his employer, architect Stanford White, was fatally perforated by a scion of this city's Thaw family), his work can be found all over, from the statue of Honus Wagner on the North Side to the one of Columbus in Schenley Park to the bust of Marconi at KDKA". -- Frank Kurtik
