Dr.Tahir ul Qadri's message for Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan & Pakistani Nation
The Real Change in Pakistan—how and why? www.minhajbooks.com www.thenews.com.pk LAHORE: Minhaj-ul-Quran International Patron-in-Chief Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said the general elections under the present government will be a joke with the nation. While addressing a meeting of the Majlis-e-Shura of the Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI) through a video conference from Canada at the central secretariat here on Sunday, he said a national government comprising honest and capable persons for at least three years was the only way out of the complex problems, the country was facing at the moment, he added. The meeting was attended by over 1500 office-bearers of the MQI from across Pakistan. Tahir-ul-Qadri proposed that the Supreme Court should hold a referendum for the establishment of a national government. He said the present electoral system gave nothing except corruption, inflation, energy crisis, unemployment, clash among institutions and the criminal neglect of health and education sectors. He said the MQI wanted reforms and not elections. Tahir-ul-Qadri said they were staunch supporters of democracy but the elections under the present system would be a joke with democracy.

Message of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri for Chief Justice - Supreme Court of Pakistan
Elections not a solution to the nation's woes: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri www.minhaj.org Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the conduct of elections to be held either now or later, under the incumbent electoral system, will be a joke with the nation. He said that it was the outcome of the present flawed system that the institutions had been pitted against one another. The establishment of a national government composed of honest and capable people with character for at least three years was the only way out of the complex problems the country was caught up in, he added. Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while addressing the meeting of Majlis-e-Shura of Minhaj-ul-Quran International through video conference from Canada, which was held in the central secretariat in Lahore today. The meeting was attended by over 1500 office holders of MQI from across Pakistan. The participants rejected the electoral system through a joint resolution and demanded of the establishment of a national government. Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri proposed that the Supreme Court should hold a referendum under its watch for the establishment of a national government. He said that those who believed that the elections offered the cure to the national ailments were gravely mistaken and befooling the people of Pakistan. Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that arrogating the right to rule to a few selected families would be tantamount to continuing with the worst reign of oppression ...

RSS Not Responsible for Gandhiji's assasination - Former Supreme Court Justice KT Thomas
It's been 63 years since Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. But, who're behind the brutal assassination? Was it the handiwork of Godse & company or the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)? The controversial question crops up at regular intervals in various parts of the country kicking up fresh debates on the subject. As for Congress leaders, it's almost an obsession to blame it on the RSS. However, when a decisive answer comes from a non-controversial and apolitical person who besides being a Christian also happens to be a retired Supreme Court justice, it should prompt one to sit up and think. Yes, we're, of course, talking about KTThomas who recently stirred a hornet's nest when, presiding over an RSS function in the city, he unequivocally absolved RSS from Ganndhi assassination. The controversy, of course, was ignored by the national media. However, Thomas' clean to chit to RSS, as expected, has left the Congress leaders in Kerala fuming. Congress state president Ramesh Chennithala and MLA PCVishnunath lambasted him for 'distorting history.' However, for the RSS leaders, Thomas' remarks proved like manna from the heaven considering his stature. Even as the controversy rages, the questions still remain: who actually killed Gandhi? Was it the RSS? Those who've read history will know Godse severed his links with RSS calling it an organization run by eunuchs. This being so, is right to point fingers at RSS, because Godse was its member once? Thomas put it ...

Alex Salmond interviewed on Supreme Court debacle, refuses to answer funding questions
A less than stellar Alex Salmond, Scotland's First Minister is interviewed on the issue of Scottish criminal cases going to the UK's Supreme Court in London. Mr Salmond is challenged several times over whether he supported comments from Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill who claimed last week he would withdraw Scottish funding for the Supreme Court, and accused its judges of gaining knowledge of Scots Law only by visiting the Edinburgh Festival. Mr Salmond notably fails to answer in what must be one of his worst performances in an interview on the justice system ever. Menzies Cambpell QC MP also answers questions on the fundamental errors of Mr Salmond's argument against the Supreme Court intervening in Scottish cases. Fortunately a team headed by Lord John McCluskey has now been announced to study the issue and report back on what if any changes may be needed to the current system where criminal appeals can go to the Supreme Court in London on Human Rights grounds (ECHR) Scots should engage in this debate as the right to take an appeal to the Supreme Court in London v taking the several years long route to Europe is a legal write which should not be lost to Scots. The SNP are very much out of step in this debate where Human Rights issues in Scots Law, particularly where there are known to be miscarriages of justice and significant injustice.

Supreme Court Summer Vacations
The US Supreme Court's biggest decisions of the term will be coming later this month, including rulings on immigration, nudity on television and, of course, health care. But then the court takes its three-month summer recess, and the justices will be scattering to the winds. Europe will be a popular destination, with several justices teaching at the summer programs of US law schools. Chief Justice John Roberts will be in the tiny Mediterranean nation of Malta, teaching a class for the Consortium for Innovative Legal Education. Justice Antonin Scalia will teach at St. Mary's University School of Law in Innsbruck, Austria. Justice Samuel Alito will be the guest instructor for Penn State's Dickinson School of Law in Florence, Italy. And Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will teach in both Venice, Italy and Vienna, Austria for Wake Forest University School of Law. Back stateside, Justice Roberts and his family will probably spend some time in Maine, where they have a vacation home. And every summer Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife Virginia take to the road in an RV, sometimes spending the night in a Wal-Mart parking lot. As a bonus, you may also see one or more of the justices trade their robes for jerseys, tossing out the first pitch at major league ballparks. It'll be a nice change of pace from the other nine months of year, when they serve as umpires. www.bloomberglaw.com

Guantanamo Detainees and the Supreme Court - Justice Stephen Breyer
Complete video at: fora.tv US Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer explains the Supreme Court's position on allowing terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay to be tried in military courts. ----- Few more fundamental philosophical questions exist in international affairs than that of the relationship between power and law. One narrative (classically formulated in Thucydides Melian Dialogue) holds that these concepts are antagonistic. Power, it argues, is an interest and a purpose unto itself. It is unilateralist in nature, expresses itself through force, makes its own rules, and is in fact its own norm. Law, by contrast, has no autonomous normative quality in this account. It is a tool that the weak use in order to leverage their influence, to restrain the strong, and to harness and contain power and the use of force. Another school of thought (its canonical text is Kants Perpetual Peace) sees law as a civilizing counterforce to power. It seeks to replace or even to ban the use of force in the settlement of disputes, and uses diplomacy and compromise to produce a state of mutuality and reciprocity in international affairs. Its most notable institutional expression was the creation of the United Nations in 1945. This essential tension between power and law has informed many of the great international debates of the past century, from the outlawing of genocide to the creation of international war crimes tribunals to the debate about a responsibility to protect ...

Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare - Conservative Reaction Absurd
"The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. upheld the heart of President Obama's healthcare law Thursday, ruling that the government may impose tax penalties on those who do not have health insurance. The decision came on a 5-4 vote, with the court's four liberal justices joining with the chief justice. On one hand, Roberts agreed with the law's conservative critics who said Congress does not have the power to mandate the purchase of a private product such as health insurance. But the Affordable Care Act does not impose a true legal mandate on Americans, he said. It simply requires those who do not have health insurance by 2014 to pay a tax penalty...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more here from the LA Times: www.latimes.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: twitter.com Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com

On Assignment
As a climber sometimes our biggest job is to try to do justice to the amazing stories of our friends and peers. For this piece I worked with our crew at http://camp4collective.com to tell http://thenorthface.com athlete Jimmy Chin's http://jimmychin.com story as he in turn highlights modern day climbing in Yosemite for a National Geographic feature story.
It seemed so serendipitous to be 'on assignment' in a place that we all cut out teeth as adventurers and which also ended up becoming the namesake of our collective!
As always, thanks for tuning in! ~reo

"THE HEART & SOUL OF NEW YORK CITY"
A K1X film by Kevin Couliau
Yes, it's about that time. Rain, sleet and snow have made way for the sun, long evenings and fresh sneakers. Early may, when Europe's hardwood champions have been crowned and the NBA playoffs shift into full gear, marks the inofficial start of the real basketball season: the streetball season! That's when reputations are made, nicknames are born and every ballplayer naturally gravitates towards that "thump", "thump" sound of his or her home court. Playground basketball is where it all started. Playground basketball is where talent is honed and friendships are made. It's where neighborhoods gather and where skills and sweat are a currency. That's especially true for the mecca of basketball, New York City. Nowhere else do streetball tournaments, players and games attract a quasi-religious following. Dollars, pride and bragging rights are on the line. Believe the hype!
The idea for a visual love letter to NY basketball was born when Red Cafe's unreleased track "Heart & Soul" established itself as an instant office-favorite at K1X headquarters in Munich (Germany) last spring. Niels Jager (K1X Go-To Guy): "The tune was on replay 24/7. And one day it hit us: let's build a statue for NYC streetball!" Red Cafe's ode to the city that never sleeps is a Pete Rock production that boasts all the makings of a hip hop classic. K1X, who has been active in the outfitting of several high profile NYC streetball tournaments for several years, was all the more surprised to find out that this beast of a tune was not yet a prime focus of Red Cafe's record label. Shake Down quickly agreed to let K1X shoot a poetic clip for the song, whose lyrics are a glowing personification of K1X's appreciation for street basketball: The Heart & Soul of New York City.
French streetball documentarist Kevin Couliau (Asphalt Chronicles), who spent the summer of 2009 in the five boroughs hunting down supreme blacktop action, was a natural choice to capture the raw essence of NYC and its rich streetball culture. As was the Canon 5D Mark II as Couliau's weapon of choice. Art director / director / producer Thibaut de Longeville (director of the acclaimed "Just For Kicks" sneaker culture documentary) and motion graphic designer Vincent Dumond of 360 Creative in Paris added their visual expertise to the project and took care of elegant motion graphics and bona fide post production.
The outcome of this work will celebrate its world premiere on May 1st 2010 on k1x.com. The clip features action from K1X affiliated tournaments in Harlem ("Together We Chill" and "Kingdome Classic") and the Lower East Side ("Lower Manhattan Classic") as well as a variety of other city courts and an impressive array of cameos by iconic players, opinion leading heads and a bunch of regular dudes. Bobbito Garcia, who got an early preview of the clip last winter had this to say: "It's so beautiful, man. It's snowing tonight but it made me look forward to the coming summer months again."
World Premiere: Witness "The Heart & Soul of New York City" on May 1st 2010 on k1x.com!
