Emile Beyer-Fine Wines From Alsace France
Emile Beyer Fine Wines From Alsace France. The village of Eguisheim Research has shown, as is widely accepted, that the Roman legions introduced the growing of vines to Eguisheim, in the early days of this era. Eguisheim is rightly considered to be the "Cradle of Alsace Vineyards". In 810, a "cour dimiere" with vineyards was given by Charlemagne to the convent of Ebersmunster. In 898 the abbey of the Benedictines in Munster also owned a cour dimiere with vineyards. In total, in the medieval commune, there were 16 "cours colongeres" [special provincial courts] belonging to ecclesiastical institutions that sourced their wines here. In the 15th century, most of the European courts, above all those of Northern Europe purchased Alsace wine. The wine left Eguisheim for Colmar by the river Ill and then we transferred at Strasbourg on the river Rhine. Certain walled vineyards appeared to be more celebrated than others: Eichberg, Pfersigberg and Eguisheim. The Thirty Years War (1618-1648) was a disaster for Alsace: reconstruction had to be carried out as quickly as possible; but soon the more productive wines from the plain started to compete with the wine produced on the hills. In the 19th century, the Alsace vineyards reached 28000 hectares and no longer exported their produce. There followed a tragic period, when oidium, mildew, and phylloxera threatened its very existence. In 1945 the vineyard only covered 6000 hectares, albeit 6000 hectares on the very best slopes. There then ...

Travel Italy - Visiting the Medieval Town of Pacentro
Take a tour of Italian Town of Pacentro in Pacentro, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Situated on a secluded plateau within the Apennine Mountain Range is the historic Italian commune of Pacentro. Pacentro is a preserved medieval town which dates to the 9th or 10th century; the location, however, has been on record since the early Roman Empire. The Castle of Caldora was originally created in the 12th century as a fortress during the raids of ancient Roman and Norman armies. Pacentro offers visitors a plethora of historical treasures to discover along with breathtaking views of the mountain range. An annual race down a steep, rocky hill is held every September as a rite of passage into adulthood, and to show their endurance to pain, they perform this race barefoot. The site where the town is located is known for the fresh water mountain springs which stream from melting mountain snow.

2. The Paris Commune and Its Legacy
France Since 1871 (HIST 276) The Paris Commune of 1871 remained a potent force in Europe for several generations afterwards. The reprisals following the fall of the Commune anticipated the great massacres of the twentieth century. While the brief reign of the communards witnessed serious adversity in the form of food shortages and disease, it also presided over many progressive social measures, such as the relative emancipation of women. The brutality of the army's actions against the communards would cast a pallor over leftist politics in Europe for decades to come. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Incredible Hulk: The Crossroads pt. 2 - Medieval Dreams
The Crossroads is just what its name implies. It is a mystical dimension whose only purpose is to lead its inhabitants to other dimensions. Endless paths lead to a multitude of dimensional portals, each portal being a reflection of the world beyond (ie the portal to an ocean world may appear as a shimmering pool of water, or the portal to a world of fire may be flanked with flames). Certain scientific constants such as spacial relationships, time, and gravity hold no absolutes in the Crossroads. Beyond the paths and the portals is a seemingly infinite void, but if one should venture into this void, they will eventually find themselves right back amidst the myriad of paths and gateways. In the center of the Crossroads is a signpost. Arms are sculpted into the post, each one presumably representing the different races of each world accessible via the Crossroads. The Signpost, if destroyed, will always regenerate itself. (Incredible Hulk II#300) - Believing that Earth could no longer afford the presence of the Hulk (who was more savage than ever, due to the self-imposed suppression of Bruce Banner's persona), but also feeling bound by his friendship with the Hulk and Banner not to hurt the green goliath, Doctor Strange searched for a peaceful means of ending his threat. As other heroes of New York rallied to face the Hulk's rampage, Strange used the Orb of the Agamotto to search through the various dimensions, and in some cases to commune with the creatures already dwelling ...

Provins, Village of Medieval Fairs - the World of Wonders project
This is an intro to my Provins, France, playlist for the World of Wonders project: www.youtube.com From Wikipedia: Provins is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. Provins, a town of medieval fairs, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Provins is well-known for its medieval fortifications, such as the Tour César (the Caesar Tower) and well-preserved city walls. The Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church is located here. The Empress Galla Placidia is said to have presented Ancona with the relics of Judas Cyriacus. However, the saint's head was situated at Provins, brought from Jerusalem by Henry I of Champagne, who built a church in this town to display it. It is still at the Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church, although construction work during the 12th century was never completed due to financial difficulties during the reign of Philippe le Bel. A dome was added in the 17th century, and the old families of Provins who lived in the upper town were called "Children of the Dome." The police station (2010), a piece of contemporary architecture designed by Parisian architects Philippe Ameller and Jacques Dubois.
