CROWN PRINCE DARA SHIKOH WITH HIS ITALIAN GUNNER NICCOLO MANUCCI IN FRONT OF THE BUKKUR FORT
Thank you for posting a picture of the Fort of Bhakkar about which I have read so much in the books of Niccolo Manucci and Francois Bernier during the time of Emperor Shah Jahan. This is where the remaining troops of Prince Dara Shikoh (that included Manucci) held out against the mighty army of Aurangzeb for a long time. Totally besieged, they ran out of ammunition and started shooting garbage, old shoes, and all kinds of waste from their cannons at the besiegers. Finally, they came to terms and were allowed to surrender. There also they watched the sad procession of Prince Dara Shikoh and his ladies crossing the Indus as prisoners (on account of the treachery of a local Baluch Sardar, Malik Jiwan?) on the way to Delhi from Baluchistan. The Prince was thoroughly humiliated in Delhi streets, imprisoned in Salimgarh prison in the Jamuna, and finally beheaded. The Baluch traitor too was assassinated on his way back from Delhi by Dara's partisans near Mathura. I have always been curios to see a picture of this Fort. The fortress of Bukkur was on a strategically important island in the Indus river, between Rohri and Sukkur. The walls of the fortress enclosed the entire island, ending the water's edge. Delhi's Muslim rulers sent representatives to preside over Bukkur. In the struggle between Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb, the sons of Emperor Shah Jahan, for the Mughal throne, the two grandsons of Dara Shikoh were murdered in this historic fort. In 1831, the fort was obtained by the ...

Writer Atul Tiwari talks about Dara Shikoh and Bhaskaracharya with regards to 'Upanishad Ganga'
Writer Atul Tiwari, who has written a few episodes of 'Upanishad Ganga' claimed that the culture of India is as ancient as the river Ganga itself and that one of the challenges they faced was how to present this concept to the new generation of today. Tiwari also spoke about Dara Shikoh, the son of emperor Shah Jahan, who showed a keen interest in the vedic culture of India and Bhaskaracharya and his contribution to India.

Fifth Patshah Sat G ur Arjun Dev Ji got the foundation stone of Harmandir Sahib laid by Mian Mir on 1st Magh, Samvat 1647 (3rd January 1588 AD). Mian Mir raised slogans to mourn the martyrdom of Guru Arjun Dev. He never accepted any gift sent by Emperor Jehangir, Emperor Shah Jehan, their Ministers and nobles. Prince Dara Shikoh built a grand tomb over the grave which is gracefully standing to date. The construction of the tomb was in progress when Aurangzeb occupied the throne. Farid Khan talks about working on 'Upanishad Ganga'
Co-writer Farid Khan said that when he got to know about this show named 'Upanishad Ganga', what impressed him the most was that though the show was named 'Upanishad Ganga', it also spoke about the story of Dara Shikoh, a Mughal prince and I was very much impressed with the concept of the show and spoke to Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi about my willingness to work on this project. I also studied a lot about the Vedas from sources provided by the Chinmaya Mission. Farid also spoke about religions vis-à-vis the project.

The Mystical World of Hazrat Mian Mir...
The 16th century saint Mir Mohammad or Hazrat Mian Mir Sindhi Qadri (1531 - 1635), sometimes also referred to as Mian Mir Bala Fir Lahori, hailed from Siwistan, with a distinguished lineage traced back to Hazrat Umar, the second caliph of Islam. The saint arrived in Lahore at the age of 25 during the reign of Emperor Akbar. He went through a long period of self-denial—which, it is said, extended to 40 years—when he would not sleep the whole night and would fast for a whole week at a time, sometimes prolonging the fast to a whole month. His piety and practice of meditation and detachment endowed him with a legendary status and it was widely believed that in virtue, beneficence and learning he had no equal. He was fond of religious, devotional music—the sama'a—as well as the local ragas. Among his most devout disciples was the poet-prince Dara Shikoh, who has narrated at length the extraordinary powers of the saint, and his habit of shunning the world to engage himself in meditation in seclusion and wilderness. Dara Shikoh's father Shah Jahan also held the saint in great esteem. The emperor twice paid his respects to the saint when on his royal tour of Lahore, and being conscious of the saint's indifference to worldly wealth, presented him with simple gifts of a rosary and turban of white cloth. Hazrat Mian Mir died in the reign of Shah Jahan, in Mohallah Khawafipura. It was Prince Dara Shikoh who buried him in the present tomb and began its construction, in an area which ...

SPECIAL MESSAGE ON PRAKASH PARV SHRI GURU HAR RAI JI :CHANNEL DIVYA
Watch Channel Divcya's exclusive video "Special message on Prakash parv Shri Guru Har Rai Ji". Guru Har Rai was a man of peace, he never disbanded the armed Sikh Warriors (Saint Soldiers), who earlier were maintained by his grandfather, Guru Hargobind. He always boosted the military spirit of the Sikhs, but he never indulged in any direct political or armed controversy with the Mughal Empire. Once, Dara Shikoh (the eldest son of emperor Shah Jahan), came to Guru Har Rai asking for help in the war of succession launched by his half-brother the murderous Aurangzeb. The Guru had promised his grandfather to use the Sikh Cavalry only in defense. He, nevertheless, helped him to escape safely from the bloody hands of Aurangzeb's armed forces by having his Sikh warriors hide all the ferry boats at the river crossing after they had been used by Dara Shikoh in his escape.
