What is a mashup? - ZDNet
At the whiteboard with David Berlind from ZDNet. Developers are getting creative, taking APIs from multiple Websites and merging them to form new, innovative applications. Frozenbear.com merges Google maps and Singles to let you know where the single people are in your neighborhood. Parkingcarma.com helps you track down parking spaces in the Bay Area. ZDNet Executive Editor David Berlind says mashups are the fastest growing ecosystem on the Web and that by 2007, there will be 10 new mashups per day.

Walk through 6 hubs found in Windows Phone 7
Windows Phone 7 is centered around 6 hubs (People, Music + Videos, Pictures, Office, Games, and Marketplace) and in this video I take you through what each of them looks like in the current Technical Preview. They will be finished when WP7 is released later this year, but so far are looking pretty good.

National Telework Week is being held this week by the Australian government in partnership with 138 organisations from a variety of industries. Its purpose is to encourage as many employers and employees as possible to trial teleworking. The federal government is promoting the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) as a key driver for the uptake of teleworking across the country.

ZDNet Product GiveAway #7
This week, I've assembled a grab bag of stuff that starts with an 802.11b-based SDIO card from Socket Mobile valued at around $70 (if you're phone or PDA has an SDIO slot, this could add WiFi functionality to it). In addition, I've thrown three books into the bag. One is Code Quality: The Open Source Perspective (value $43), the other is The NetBeans IDE Field Guide (value $44) and the third is Enemy at the Water Cooler (value, $32, cover pictured right). Also inside the bag are some AA and AAA batteries representing the latest in battery technology from Panasonic: known as Oxyride (valued at about $15).

Tech Shakedown: HP Pavilion notebook owners flood HP's site
If you've watched any of my Tech Shakedown videos here on ZDNet, you'd know that I've been asking viewers to let me know if they know of a breakdown that needs to be the subject of a Tech Shakedown. In cases where suggestions like these come from ZDNet's audience members (and I have been getting them, thank you!), I do have to check them out. Well, this one definitely checked out. A couple of weeks ago, Andrés, an engineer that reads ZDNet wrote the following to me via e-mail: Lately HP brought on the market a series of pavilion notebooks that where on high demand because of their all in one features. But it seems that there's been a cover-up on the reliability of their performance. A lot of costumers who bought their notebooks are currently experiencing the same problem two major problems with their systems. How does Andres know about these other customers? Well, since June 2007, they've been flooding HP's Web site with complaints about how their Pavilion notebook computers are randomly losing any sense of the fact that they have wireless adapters in them (which in turn causes a loss of productivity). The thread is so flooded with messages that the only way I can get Web browser to view the entire thing without seizing is to close most of my other applications. for more, please visit: blogs.zdnet.com
