Visite de Djenné / Visit of Djenne (Mali)
Djenné (also Dienné or Jenne) is a historically and commercially important small city in the Niger Inland Delta of central Mali. It is just west of the Bani River (the Niger River passes well to the west and north). It has an ethnically diverse population of about 12000 (in 1987). It is famous for its mud brick (adobe) architecture, most notably the Great Mosque of Djenné which was rebuilt in 1907. In the past, Djenné was a centre of trade and learning, and has been conquered a number of times since its founding. It is the oldest known city in sub-Saharan Africa, and its historic city center was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Administratively it is part of the Mopti Region. Djenné was founded in about 800 CE by the Bozo people at a site known as Jenné-Jeno, 1.5 km upstream. It moved its site in either 1043 or the 13th century, when the city converted to Islam. This increased its importance as a market and a base for trans-Saharan trade, soon rivalling Timbuktu. Djenné, despite its proximity, was never part of the Mali Empire. It existed as an independent city-state protected by walls and the geography of the inland delta. According to legend, the Mali Empire attempted to conquer the city 99 times before giving up. Djenné would not be conquered until 1473 by the Songhai Empire under Sonni Ali. The siege of Djenné is said to have lasted 7 months and 7 days culminating in the death of the city's king and its capitulation. The widow of the city married ...

Mr Reedley: A Tribute to "Bozo" Aalto 1915 - 2008
This tribute was screened at Bozo's funeral. It was written and narrated by David Browning. Produced and edited by Sean Browning. My grandpa, Wilbert Everet Aalto, aka "Bozo" died on Wednesday, August 27th, 2008. Bozo was known as Mr Reedley, as in Reedley, California where he was born and lived for 93 years. He was given the name "Bozo" when he was in grade school, well before the famous clown came around, when the name just meant a guy". Over the years, he became the guy to see if you wanted to get something done around town. He was a farmer, a father, a car salesman and the chief of the Reedley fire department. He sat on the board of directors of numerous organizations, helped start the yearly Reedley Fiesta celebration and the Reedley airport. He played the bass drum for years in the Reedley community band, reigned as "King of Reedley" in 1971 and canned the most kick ass hot peppers that you have ever tasted. He was also featured on the cover of the Gluey Brothers album, "Stiff for the Elders". Some people live their lives in the spotlight, and Bozo was surely one of those people. He made Reedley the town that it is today and on Monday, September 8th, he was laid to rest there- after a procession through town atop his old fire engine with his bass drum at his side. Farewell Grandpa Bozo. I can only hope to accomplish a fraction of what you were able to in life.

Marshall Brodien aka Wizzo from Bozo: What a Life
Marshall Brodien is most famous as Wizzo (do-de-do-de-do) from the old Bozo show. But did you know he used to perform magic tricks for mobsters? That he was on national television? Check out this great peace from Dean Richards.
