Ronnie Gene Dunn (born June 1, 1953) is an American country music singer-songwriter, known for being one half of the duo Brooks & Dunn. In 2011, Dunn began working as a solo artist following the breakup of Brooks & Dunn. He released his self-titled debut album for Arista Nashville on June 7, 2011, reaching top 10 with its lead-off single "Bleed Red".

Early life[link]

Dunn was born in Coleman, Texas, and attended 13 schools in his first 12 years of school. He began school in New Mexico and finished his formal education at Abilene Christian University in 1975 as a psychology major. When Ronnie began playing bass guitar and singing with bands in clubs in the Abilene, Texas, area, the university gave him the choice of either quitting the band or the university. He chose to leave the university and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a chance at the country music scene. He lived there for many years while drawing much inspiration from local honky tonks such as Tulsa City Limits, which is prominently featured in the music video for Brooks & Dunn's hit "Boot Scootin' Boogie". While he was in college, he served as a music and youth minister at Avoca Baptist Church in Avoca, Texas.

Ronnie began his musical career as a solo artist. He charted two minor singles with Churchill/MCA Records in 1983 he released "It's Written All Over Your Face" and "She Put the Sad in All His Songs" in 1984. In 1990, he and Kix Brooks formed Brooks & Dunn. They released their first album, Brand New Man, with their first four singles in 1991, and was certified 6x platinum by the RIAA. Brooks & Dunn have released 12 studio albums, two Greatest Hits albums, and a Christmas album. The three Greatest Hits albums feature seven songs that can't be found on any other album.^[2]

Brooks & Dunn have sold over 30 million records, had 20 number one singles on Billboard, and are one of the most consistently successful acts on the concert circuit. In 2009, they announced that they would disband in 2010.

Return to solo career[link]

In late 2010, Dunn announced that he was working on a solo album. The album's first single, "Bleed Red", was released to country radio on January 29, 2011, and debuted at number 30 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for the week ending February 19, 2011. Dunn's self titled album Ronnie Dunn was released on June 7, 2011. The second single from the album, "Cost of Livin'", was released on June 6, 2011, and debuted at number 56 on the country chart.

The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums, as well as number 5 on the Billboard 200, selling 45,000 copies in its first week in the US.^[3]

Dunn has been married to his wife, Janine, since May 19, 1990 and they have three children: daughters Whitney Claire Nicole, Haley Kathryn Marie, and son Jesse Ronald Brooks.

On November 29, 2011, it was announced that Ronnie Dunn is going to be a grandfather. His son Jesse and his wife welcomed as son named Huxton “Huck” Wayne Dunn on February 26, 2012.^[4]

Ronnie Dunn has won more than twenty Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) awards, including Country Music Songwriter of the Year in 1996 and 2001. He has received more than 27 ACM awards for Top Vocal Duo since 1991, except for 2000 when the honor went to Montgomery Gentry and 2009 when the honor went to Sugarland, including three Entertainer of the Year awards and vocal event of the year in 2005, for their hit "Building Bridges" with Vince Gill and Sheryl Crow's background vocals, along with his Single of the Year for his gospel song "Believe". He is a member of both the Oklahoma and Arkansas Music Halls Of Fame. Ryan Matthew Dunn (June 11, 1977 – June 20, 2011)^[1] was an American reality television personality, actor and stunt man best known for being a member of the Jackass and Viva La Bam crew.

Dunn came to prominence as a member of the CKY Crew along with long-time friend Bam Margera for their extreme stunts and pranks recorded on camera which led to the rise of MTV's Jackass and its three later feature films, which have all been commercial successes.

Aside from Jackass, Dunn also hosted Homewrecker and Proving Ground and appeared in feature films such as Street Dreams and Blonde Ambition, as well as in Margera's films Haggard: The Movie and Minghags.

Dunn died in an alcohol-related car crash in West Goshen Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania on the morning of June 20, 2011, alongside his friend Zachary Hartwell, a production assistant on Jackass Number Two.

Career[link]

Dunn took part in the characteristic stunts that made Jackass famous, and featured in all three released films, Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two and Jackass 3D.

In 2006, Dunn and Bam Margera participated in the Gumball 3000 road rally in Margera's Lamborghini Gallardo.^[2] He later went on a tour with Don Vito called "The Dunn and Vito Rock Tour" for which the DVD was released on March 20, 2007.^[3] Dunn and Margera again participated in the rally in 2008.

Bam Margera stated during a December 2, 2008, radio interview with Big O and Dukes of 106.7 WJFK-FM, that he and Dunn would be going to Italy to film Where the F*%# Are My Ancestors.^[4] That same month, Dunn appeared on the episode "Smut" of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in December 2008. He is also featured in a movie called Street Dreams which was released in spring 2009. He co-starred along with Rob Dyrdek and Paul Rodriguez Jr. Dunn was also featured on a show with fellow Jackass star Bam Margera about them traveling through Europe in a Viva la Bam-like show called Bam's World Domination for Spike. He appeared in Jackass 3D, which was released on October 15, 2010.^[5]

Dunn co-hosted G4's Proving Ground along with Jessica Chobot, which made its premiere on June 14, 2011, six days before his death.^[6] However, according to a G4 spokesperson, the channel decided to postpone the airing of further episodes. The spokesperson added, "The show is off the schedule as of today until we discuss next steps."^[7] On June 27, G4 announced they would air the remaining episodes starting on July 19, 2011.^[8][9] At the time of his death, Dunn was working on the film, Welcome to the Bates Motel. The film is slated for release in 2012.

Personal life[link]

From 2002 until his death, Dunn was in a long-term relationship with girlfriend Angie Cuturic, who co-starred with him in Margera's directorial debut Haggard: The Movie and later Minghags. Dunn had several tattoos of Cuturic, including in his inner arm and left ring finger. ^[10]

2006 injury[link]

During shooting of the closing scenes for Jackass Number Two, Dunn injured his shoulder during one of his final bits, where he and co-star Bam Margera are pulled out of shot by a running horse by a rope tied around their feet. Dunn dropped straight onto his shoulder, causing damage to the muscles and leading to a blood clot that was at one point life-threatening, due to its proximity to his heart and brain. While seeking treatment for it, Dunn became depressed, eventually cutting off all contact with his friends, co-workers, and others for nearly two years. Dunn did not appear in Jackass 2.5, the 24-hour Jackassworld.com MTV special, or any subsequent events related to the films and series.^[11] Although reluctant to return to the Jackass world, he soon joined the rest of the crew in the production of Jackass 3D and Jackass 3.5 later saying that he was happy to rejoin the cast and had more enjoyment working on Jackass 3 than any previous film endeavors.^[12]

On June 20, 2011, at around 2:30 a.m. EDT, Dunn and Zachary Hartwell, a production assistant on Jackass Number Two,^[13] were killed when Dunn's Porsche 911 GT3 veered off the road and hit a tree in West Goshen Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.^[14][15] Hours before the accident, Dunn had posted a photo to his Twitter account of himself and Hartwell drinking at a West Chester bar.^[16] Dunn was identified in the police report as the vehicle's driver,^[17] and a subsequent toxicology report showed Dunn had a blood alcohol level of 0.196% — more than twice the state's legal limit of 0.08%.^[18] The police report stated "...that speed may have been a contributing factor in the accident..."^[17] and preliminary investigations suggested that the car had been traveling between 132 and 140 miles per hour (212 and 230 km/h) in a 55 miles per hour (89 km/h) zone.^[19][20] The accident happened in the same location that Dunn had previously rolled another vehicle in 1996.^[21]

The Wednesday after the accident, Ryan's closest friends and family attended a private memorial service held in West Chester, Pennsylvania.^[22] Dunn's remains were brought back to his home state of Ohio for burial.

Legacy[link]

Dunn is remembered by friends and fans alike as the "go-to guy for outrageous stunts that even such stalwarts as Steve-O weren't willing to try" and "the kind of guy who would do anything for a friend," gaining the nickname "Random Hero."^[23]

Following the news of his death, Dickhouse Productions and the producers of the show released the following statement:

"I don't really know what to say right now everybody, because the sadness is overwhelming, but today we lost one of our own. Our brother Ryan Dunn has passed. He died in a car wreck in West Goshen, Pennsylvania this morning at 3 a.m. Goddamn, that's tough to write. Our hearts go out to his family and his beloved Angie. Ryan will be missed and remembered by us all. Thanks for the kind words of support everybody."

Many celebrities expressed their grief and condolences on Twitter including Sofia Coppola, Tom Green, Carey Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Tony Hawk and his Jackass cast members.^[24] Film critic Roger Ebert sparked an argument over Twitter after posting "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive" just hours after Dunn died. Bam Margera retaliated by putting "I just lost my best friend, I have been crying hysterical for a full day and piece of s**t roger ebert has the gall to put in his 2 cents about a jackass drunk driving and [he is] one, f*** you!" he added. "Millions of people are crying right now, shut your fat f*****g mouth!" Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton responded 'We certainly agree that driving after drinking is wrong, we think there's no reason - especially RIGHT NOW - that anyone should be pointing fingers or poking fun at a truly tragic situation. Everyone makes mistake, and this is somebody's son. Too soon, Roger.' Ebert replied to Hilton's post saying, 'Perez Hilton's readers agree with me and not with Perez about my tweet on Ryan Dunn. He drank, he drove, 2 people died.' Kings of Leon also paid homage to Dunn at their London Hyde Park concert by dedicating their song "McFearless" to him. Skrillex dedicated his song "Cinema" to Dunn after a moment of silence. ^[25] Alkaline Trio also dedicated their song "Goodbye Forever" to Dunn on their 15 Year Anniversary tour.

Singer/song writer Roger Alan Wade wrote and composed the song dedicated to Dunn titled, "The Light Outlives the Star." Occasional Jackass member Loomis Fall also wrote the song "Bid Farewell" in memory of Dunn. Both songs were used in a music video tribute by Dickhouse Productions for its official website.^[26]

Dunn also came in at number three in the most popular search terms of 2011 on Google's Zeitgeist report following his death.^[27]

On November 28, 2011, MTV aired an hour-long tribute to Dunn, where several details of his life previously unknown to the public were revealed as well as never-before seen stunts he performed. Dunn's parents, sister, friends and both Jackass and Viva La Bam cast mates recalled his early beginnings to final months.

Jourdan Dunn (born 3 August 1990 in London, England^[2]) is a British fashion model. She was discovered in Hammersmith Primark in 2006^[2] and signed to Storm Model Management in London shortly thereafter. In 2008, she was the first black model to walk a Prada runway in over a decade.^[3][4] She has attracted attention because of the lack of black models in the fashion modelling industry.^[3]

Dunn made her runway debut in the New York shows in the fall of 2007, walking in shows for Marc Jacobs and Polo Ralph Lauren, among others.^[5] In 2007, she was featured on British Vogue as a "new star," and in 2008 Style.com listed her as one of the top 10 newcomers.

She has one child, Riley, a boy, born 8 December 2009 in London. She had been with her boyfriend, the baby's father, for five years ^[10] before he was arrested just two months after her son was born for dealing cocaine.^[11] Riley has been diagnosed with Sickle-cell disease.^[12]

She is close friends with fellow supermodel Karlie Kloss.

Adam Troy Dunn (born November 9, 1979, in Houston, Texas), nicknamed "Big Donkey",^[1] is an American Major League Baseball first baseman, outfielder, and designated hitter for the Chicago White Sox. He bats left-handed and throws right-handed.

He is six feet, six inches (198 cm) in height and weighing 285 pounds.^[2] On July 4, 2009, he became the 123rd player to hit 300 career home runs.

Amateur career[link]

Dunn was a standout quarterback at New Caney High School in Texas. After graduating from high school, the Cincinnati Reds drafted Dunn in the second round (50th overall) of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. Dunn had previously committed to play football for the University of Texas. The Reds and Dunn agreed to a deal which allowed him to play minor league baseball during the summer, and return to Austin in August to prepare for football. Dunn redshirted his freshman season and served as a backup to Major Applewhite. When star recruit Chris Simms committed to Texas, Dunn was asked to move to the tight end position. As a result, he left the Longhorns to concentrate on baseball in 1999.^{[citation needed]}

Professional career[link]

Despite his high strikeout totals, Dunn exhibits good plate discipline. He has been among the major league leaders every season in number of pitches per at bat. His career batting average is slightly under .250, but he has nonetheless compiled a career on-base percentage above .380. He is annually among the league leaders in both bases on balls and strikeouts. His most adoring fans lovingly refer to him as "Dairy Queen."

Dunn has the fifth-lowest career at bats per home run average in Major-League history. His 13.96 ratio (about one home run every 14 times he comes to bat) is eclipsed only by Mark McGwire (10.61), Babe Ruth (11.76), Barry Bonds (12.90), and Jim Thome (13.68). Stretching behind Dunn are such Hall-of-Famers as Ralph Kiner, Harmon Killebrew, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx, and Mike Schmidt, respectively.

Cincinnati Reds[link]

Dunn made his Major League debut on July 20, 2001, and set a National League rookie record for the most home runs in a month by hitting 12 in August.

In 2002, Adam Dunn had a career-high 128 walks and a .400 on base percentage. During that same year, he was selected to the 2002 National League All-Star team. In that game, Dunn hit a ball to center field that was a few feet from being a game ending home run (the game famously ended in a tie). He also walked in his only other plate appearance.

Dunn's most productive season came in 2004, when he posted career highs in batting average (.266), home runs (46), runs (105), hits (151),, slugging average (.569), and OPS (.957). On September 30, 2004, Dunn once again got his name in Major League Baseball's record book. That day, Dunn struck out three times against Chicago Cubs right-hander Mark Prior, raising his season total to 191 and surpassing Bobby Bonds' single season strikeout record of 189, set in 1970. He finished the season with 195 strikeouts. He held the record until Ryan Howard broke it on September 27, 2007.

Dunn's 46 home runs in 2004 were the fourth most in Cincinnati Reds history. That year, he joined Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan as the only Reds players to score 100 runs, drive in 100 runs, and draw 100 walks in a single season. Dunn repeated the feat the following season making him the only player in Reds history to do it more than once.

On Mother's Day, May 14, 2006, Dunn was one of more than 50 hitters who brandished a pink bat to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

In 2003, he led all major league outfielders in errors, with 10.^[3] In 2004, he tied for the lead among all major league left fielders in errors, with 8.^[4]

In 2004, 2005, and 2006, he struck out 34.3%,^[5] 30.9%,^[6] and 34.6%^[7] of the time, respectively. In each season, his was the highest strikeout percentage in Major League Baseball. In 2008 he struck out 31.7% of the time.^[8]

In 2006, he led all major league outfielders in errors, with 12, and had the lowest fielding percentage among left fielders, at .960.^[9][10]. Also in 2006, Dunn made Cincinnati headlines with one of the biggest home runs of his career, a walk off grandslam to cap a 7-1 rally to beat the Indians in a July game.

On October 31, 2007, Dunn's $13 million dollar option was picked up by the Reds, making him the highest-paid player on the team. ^[11]

On June 29, 2008, Dunn won the Ohio Cup MVP when he went 6-for-20 in the six-game series, with 5 home runs and 10 RBI.

Arizona Diamondbacks[link]

On August 11, 2008, Dunn was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for right-handed pitcher Dallas Buck and two other players to be named later.^[12] The two players were catcher Wilkin Castillo and pitcher Micah Owings.^[13]

In 2008 he walked 19.1% of the time, the highest percentage in major league baseball; however, he also struck out 164 times in 651 plate appearances.^[14]

Defensively, he had the lowest fielding percentage of all starting major league left fielders, .968, and committed more errors (7) than any other NL left fielder.^[15]

Washington Nationals[link]

On February 11, 2009, Dunn agreed to a two-year $20 million deal with the Washington Nationals.^[16][17] In his first game as a National, he hit a home run and had four RBIs. On July 4, 2009, he hit his 300th career home run.^[18] During the 2009 season, Dunn transitioned into a first baseman,^[19] and now in National League parks, he plays almost exclusively at that position.

On July 7, 2010, Dunn hit 3 home runs in a single game for the first time in his career as the Nationals beat the Padres 7–6. He hit a 3 run and 2 solo homers to join Alfonso Soriano as the only Nationals players to accomplish the feat.^[20]

Chicago White Sox[link]

On December 2, 2010, Dunn agreed to a four-year, $56 million deal with the Chicago White Sox.^[21][22] On April 6, 2011 Dunn underwent an apendectomy which caused him to miss five games. Prior to the appendectomy, Dunn was hitting .286 with a home run and 5 RBIs. However, after returning, Dunn struggled mightily, leading to reduced playing time as the year proceeded. He ended the season with a .159 average, .292 On-base percentage, .277 slugging percentage, .569 OPS, and 177 strikeouts, hitting only 11 home runs and recording 42 RBI, putting together by far the worst season of his career.^[23] The 177 strikeouts set a new White Sox team record for most strikeouts in a season by a batter, beating the previous record of 175 held by Dave Nicholson.^[24] Dunn's 2011 campaign was by far the worst of any player in the majors, and had Dunn qualified for the batting title (A player must have 3.1 plate appearances for every team game played, for a total of 502, in order to qualify; Dunn only had 496 for the year), his .159 average would have been the lowest batting average by a qualified player since Bill Bergen hit .139 as a starter for the 1909 Brooklyn Superbas.

Through 2011, he led all active left fielders in career errors, with 60.^[25]

Frustrated by his poor performance in 2011, Dunn pledged to change his offseason preparation so as to "not let this happen again."^[26] His changed routine seemed to have paid off by the end of May 2012, as Dunn surpassed his entire home run total from the year before and was leading the American League in walks.

In 2012, Dunn struck out in 36 straight games, a record for a position player, as only Pitcher Bill Stoneman struck out in more consecutive games, at 37.^{[citation needed]}

On March 1, 2009, Dunn joined the United States team for the 2009 World Baseball Classic at the late request of coach Davey Johnson.^[27] In the March 7, 2009 first round game against Canada in Toronto, he hit a two-run home run and batted in a run on a sacrifice fly play.^[28] On March 8, Dunn scored on a three run triple by Chris Iannetta, and had a solo home run against Venezuela.^[29]

Dunn has come under criticism for what some view as a lackadaisical effort in left field. When Dunn was a free agent in 2009, Toronto Blue Jays GM J. P. Ricciardi commented in response to a question about acquiring Dunn: "Do you know the guy doesn't really like baseball that much? Do you know the guy doesn't have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player? There's a reason why you're attracted to some players and there's a reason why you're not attracted to some players. I don't think you'd be very happy if we brought Adam Dunn here." Ricciardi later apologized for his comments.^[30] In 2008, Reds announcer Marty Brennaman criticized Dunn's lack of clutch hitting as well noting, "He homers; he doesn't drive in runs."^[31] Marty Brennaman said in 2007, "I think he was overweight last year. He walks to his position. He walks off the field. You see no energy whatsoever and that disappoints the heck out of me."^[32] However, Washington Nationals GM Mike Rizzo had this to say about Dunn: "Dunn was the most misunderstood player I have heard about in recent memory," Rizzo said. "The way he was misconstrued [in Cincinnati] was almost unbelievable. He plays banged up. He'd go out there 162 games if you'd let him. He's the most consistent player in the game the last six years."^[33]

In 2009, Dunn was rated the worst fielder in the Major Leagues by Ultimate Zone Rating, at −35.^[34][35] After the Nationals moved him to first base midway through the 2009 season, his UZR/150 was −30.8 – the next closest first baseman (over 500 innings) was Victor Martinez, at −9.1.^[36] Dunn, for the first time in his career, went into spring training in 2010 as a first baseman. By the All Star Break, his UZR/150 was −1.1, ahead of Albert Pujols, Ryan Howard, Mark Teixeira, and Prince Fielder.^[37][38]

In December 2005, Reds manager Jerry Narron informed the press that, due to the trade of popular first baseman Sean Casey to the Pittsburgh Pirates for left-handed pitcher Dave Williams, Dunn would be moving to first base for the 2006 season. However, with the acquisition of free agent first baseman Scott Hatteberg (who played for the Oakland Athletics in 2005) during spring training and the March 20 trade of outfielder Wily Mo Peña to the Boston Red Sox for right-handed pitcher Bronson Arroyo, the plan to convert Dunn was scrapped. Dunn had mentioned that he would rather not play first base.^{[citation needed]}

After Nick Johnson was traded to the Florida Marlins, Dunn was made the Nationals everyday first baseman.^[19]
