A Chief Minister is the elected head of government of a sub-national (e.g. constituent federal) state, provinces of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, notably a state (and sometimes a union territory) of India, a territory of Australia^[1] or a British Overseas Territory that has attained self-government. It is also used as the English version of the title given to the heads of governments of the Malay states^[2] without a monarchy.

The title is also used in the Crown dependencies of the Isle of Man (since 1986), in Guernsey (since 2004), and in Jersey (since 2005).

In Malaysia, it is used to refer to the heads of government, called in their Malay language term Ketua Menteri (literally Chief Minister), of the Malaysian states without a sultan, i.e., Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak, while the Malay language term Menteri Besar (literally Great Minister) is used in other states with a monarch.

By analogy the term is often applied to various other high ministerial offices, e.g. in a princely state before or during the British raj.

Deputy chief minister[link]

Deputy chief minister is an optional post in some States of India and is Second to the Chief Minister. In general practice the position is given to a member of the coalition party when the government is formed with the support of various parties. It can also be awarded to a member of the majority party who has substantial support of the legislature compared to the Chief Minister.

Om Prakash Chautala (born 1 January 1935) is an Indian politician from the state of Haryana and the leader of the Indian National Lok Dal political party. He is a former Chief Minister of Haryana. Presently, he is the Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha.

Chautala is the son of Chaudhari Devi Lal, a former deputy prime minister of India. He was born in a Jaat family of Sihag gotra.^[1][2] He was the Chief Minister of Haryana from 2 December 1989 to 2 May 1990, from 12 July 1990 to 17 July 1990, again from 22 March 1991 to 6 April 1991 and finally from 24 July 1999 to 4 March 2005. Politically, he had been part of NDA and Third Front at national level. But still he describe the Congress and BJP as Saampnath and Naagnath.^[3]

Controversies[link]

Many Controversies have been associated with Chautala since the beginning of his political career.^[4]

Chautala was publicly disowned by his father Devi Lal. He had allegedly smuggled gold watches worth Rs 100,000. Even his sons had been accused of being involved in controversies.^[5]

Meham was perhaps.............. his biggest political controversy, which brought him into national attention. The shadow of Meham was to dog him right up to 1996, when the Justice K.N. Saikia Commission indicted him as an accessory after the fact in the killing of Amir Singh.^[6]

Chautala has been accused of protecting the then Director General of Police, SPS Rathore in the Ruchika Girhotra child molestation case. The matter, as of now, is sub-judice.^[7]

Indicting the former Chief Minister, his two sons, Abhay and Ajay, and their wives for amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs 1,467 crore, the CBI has filed a chargesheet in a Delhi Court. The CBI has submitted that Om Prakash Chautala and his family acquired more than 80 properties in different parts of India from 1993 to 2006.^[8]

Om Parkash Chautala is also accused in number of other cases including the much publicised JBT Scam. The CBI filed Chargesheet, as per which in the year 1999–2000, 3032 teachers were recruited by the former CM and his son Ajay Chautala along with the other accused on the basis of forged documents. The matter was registered by the CBI on the direction of the Supreme Court and the CBI seized documents and properties in lakhs from various places.^[9]

Om Parkash Chautala is accused by his opponents to amass wealth using the official position.^[10] He was presented numerous costly presents including crowns ans Gold Brick.^[11]

He is said to have owner of one new entertainment channel^[12]

Om Prakash (19 December 1919 – 21 February 1998) was an Indian character actor. He was born in Jammu as Om Prakash Chibber. He used to play the role of Kamla in the stage play by the famous Dewan Mandir Natak Samaj Koliwada. Starting his career in 1942, he was a popular supporting actor from the 1950s until the 1980s. He was one of the elite of the film industry. Some of his performances were so memorable that the lead actor in the film attributed the success of the film to him.

Om Prakash played the leading man in films like Dus Lakh, Annadata and Charandas 'Sadhu aur Shaitan'. His pivotal roles in the films Dil Daulat Duniya, Chupke Chupke, Julie, Joroo Ka Ghulam, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Pyar Kiye Jaa and Buddha Mil Gaya are considered to be among his best along with Daddu in Namak Halaal and De Silva in Zanjeer. His roles in 'Sharabi', 'Bharosa', 'Tere Ghar Ke Samne', 'Mere Humdum Mere Dost', 'Loafar', 'Dil Tera Diwana' were also appreciated.

He is known for his roles in comedy films. One of his best performances in his later years were Naukar Biwi Ka, Sharaabi (1984) and Chameli Ki Shaadi, where he played a role that was pivotal for the movie.

Early life and education[link]

Om Prakash Chibber was born in Jammu on 19 December 1919? He was fascinated by theatre, music and films. He started taking lessons in classical music when he was just twelve and was recognised as a master in no time.

Career[link]

He joined All India Radio in 1937 on a monthly salary of Rs 25. He was known as “Fateh Din”, a radio personality and his programmes made him popular all over Lahore and Punjab.

He was regaling people at a wedding one day when the well-known film-maker Dalsukh Pancholi spotted him and asked to see him in his Lahore office. Pancholi gave Prakash his first break as an actor in a film called Daasi. He was paid only Rs 80 but the film earned him the kind of recognition that would give him a means of livelihood for a lifetime. It was his first major role; he had played a bit role in Sharif Badmash, a silent film. He followed his good work in Daasi with Pancholi’s Dhamki and Aayee Bahar and became a force to reckon with.

Soon after the Partition he came to Delhi and then to Bombay (now Mumbai). Baldev Raj Chopra noticed his talent when he was a film journalist and critic; he urged Prakash to carry on with his acting career. He was sure Om Prakash had the talent to prove himself as a versatile actor. The actor had to face some struggle initially. He got his first big break in Bombay as a villain in a film called Lakhpati. It won him acclaim and got him more “meaty” roles in films like Lahore, Char Din and Raat Ki Rani. It was during this phase in his career that he did Azaad with Dilip Kumar, Sargam with Raj Kapoor and Miss Mary, Bahar, Pehli Jhalak, Asha and Manmauji with Kishore Kumar followed by Howrah Bridge with Ashok Kumar and then Tere Ghar Ke Samne with Dev Anand. He was marked out for his performance in both films in spite of the presence of powerful star personas like Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Dev Anand. He had developed a style of his own, a style which was going to take him places, make him a big name in the world of film entertainment for the next forty years.

Om Prakash soon became a household name. He was good in almost every character he played. He was the comedian, the family man burdened with problems, the munshi, the alcoholic fallen on bad days because of the evil designs of the villain, the nagged husband, the old man in love, the wily politician and the big brother with a heart of gold. He played an assortment of characters with the same ease and had some of the best directors opting for him every time they had a role which they felt only he could play.

Om Prakash was versatile actor with 307 films to his credit. One can never forget his comic performances in Howrah Bridge, Dus Lakh (he won his first major award for this performance), Pyar Kiye Jaa, Padosan, Sadhu Aur Shaitaan, Dil Daulat Duniya, Chupke Chupke, Namak Halaal, Gol Maal and Chameli Ki Shaadi. His performance as Dilip Kumar’s elder brother in Gopi gave his career a new impetus. He proved that he could play mature roles with the same ease, the same depth: Films like Chacha Zindabad, Khandan, Haryali Aur Raasta, Dil Apna Aur Preet Paraayi, Pati Patni, Neend Hamari Khwab Tumhare, Mere Hamdam Mere Dost, Annadata, Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati, Doli, Chirag, Amar Prem, Aankh Micholi, Ek Hasina Do Diwane, Anuraag, Zanjeer, Sagina, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Loafer, Roti, Julie, Khushboo, Laawaris, Bandish, Sharaabi and Chameli Ki Shaadi.

Om Prakash was one of the most loved and respected father figures in the industry. His ready wit, his earthy humour, his lack of airs, his disdain for hypocrites and hypocrisy, his benevolent nature in helping others to make the best of life and his eternal optimism and romantic nature made him a man in a class by himself, a cut above the rest.

Later years[link]

He lived in Union Park, Chembur, a suburb of Mumbai. The actor who was always so full of life was still full of life till just two days before his death. He knew he was not well. He knew he was suffering from complications but he never gave up his zest for life till his heart betrayed him. He kept calling friends to play a game of rummy or just chat. He had an office at the Roop Tara Studios which was only used for “rummy sessions” and “chat sessions”. Then, some years ago, he shifted his office to the suburbs to make it more convenient for his friends.

Family[link]

His wife Prabha predeceased him. He had no biological children. He lived with his younger brother Bakshi Ram Prakash Chibber who had five children, and he treated them as his children.

Illness and death[link]

He attended this office regularly till his health started failing him. He was confined to his bungalow (next to Ashok Kumar’s bungalow). He suffered his first heart attack in his own bedroom. He was rushed to the Lilavati Hospital where he suffered a second heart attack and went into a coma from which he never came out. He was declared dead at 1.30 pm on February 21. He died at age 78 in Mumbai, India of a heart attack. The news spread fast and the industry was shocked and stunned because he was the kind of man who could not be easily associated with something so sombre and solemn like death.

Prithviraj Chavan (Marathi: पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण, born 17 March 1946) is the current and 22nd Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The Indian National Congress selected him to be the successor of Ashok Chavan. He was a Member of the Parliament of India representing Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He was the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Early life[link]

He has graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India. He also holds a Masters degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He wrote articles on computer science; engineering design; and also contribution to research in computerization of Indian languages in his early days before entering the politics.^[1]

Political career[link]

Prithviraj Chavan was born to Late.Shri.Anandrao alias Dajisaheb Chavan who Member of Loksabha and served as Minister for various portfolios under the Prime-Ministership of Late.Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru,Late.Lal Bahadur Shastri and Late.Smt.Indira Gandhi.His mother was Late.Smt.Premalakaki Chavan,who was elected as Member of Loksabha after the death of her husband Late.Shri.Anandrao Chavan from his Karad constituency and served in the same capacity for all consecutive terms till her death in 1991. Chavan started his political career in 1991,his name was proposed by Mr. Hindurao Sakharam Jagtap (President Karad Taluka Youth congress Committee)in place of Smt.Premlatatai Chavan,his mother and won the family seat of Karad thrice, in '91, '96 and '98 and lost it in 1999.^[2]

He was the Minister of State for the ministries of Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and in charge of Prime Minister's Office. Earlier he was also the Minister Of State in charge of the Department Of Atomic Energy. He retained his image of "Mr. Clean" which fetched prestigious post of chief minister after departure of Ashok Chavan on account of Adarsh Scam. Barely days into his tenure as the Chief Minister Of Maharashtra, he, along with Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel, met Jairam Ramesh, the Minister for Environment And Forests and successfully convinced him to give the environmental clearance for the much delayed Navi Mumbai International Airport. He has also announced reformations in higher and technical education in Maharashtra. The research at the University level has been promoted by providing enhanced Scholarships so that people can take up the work for full time. He had also put down builder lobby having background of unfair practices in urban areas especially in Mumbai and Pune.

Ajit Anantrao Pawar (Marathi: अजित अनंतराव पवार) (born July 22, 1959), popularly known as Dada (Big Brother) is a Maharashtra politician currently serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He is the nephew of Sharad Pawar, the Union Cabinet Minister of Agriculture and the chief of Nationalist Congress Party.

Early Life and Family History[link]

Ajit Pawar is the son of Anantrao Pawar who was an elder brother of Sharad Pawar. Anantrao followed a less conventional career of working for V. Shantaram's Rajkamal studio. His paternal grandfather, Govindrao Pawar was employed by the Baramati farmers' Cooperative ( Sahakari Kharedi Vikri Sangh) whilst his grandmother, Shardabai looked after the family farm at Katewadi, ten kilometers from Baramati.

Political life[link]

Ajit Pawar made his foray into politics in 1982 when he was elected to a sugar cooperative body. Ajit Pawar was then elected as a chairman of the Pune District Co-operative Bank (PDC) in 1991, the post he held for 16 years. It merits attention that when he took over, the bank deposits were just Rs 300 crore. When he relinquished office the bank deposits had increased to an astronomical figure of Rs 160000 crores (approximately $32 billion)^{[citation needed]} . During the same time he was elected to Lok Sabha from Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. He later vacated his Lok Sabha seat in favour of Mr. Sharad Pawar who had then become a Defense minister in Mr. P. V. Narasimha Rao's government.

Thereafter, he moved to the state legislature and was elected as a MLA from Baramati Vidhan Sabha constituency in 1991. He went on to become minister of state for Agriculture and Power (June 1991 - November 1992) in Mr. Sudhakarrao Naik's government. Later he became minister of state for Soil Conservation, Power and Planning (November 1992 - February 1993) when Mr. Sharad Pawar returned to the state as chief minister.

When Congress-NCP combine came into power in 1999 Mr. Ajit Pawar was promoted to the rank of a cabinet minister. He became minister for the coveted Irrigation department (October 1999 - December 2003) in Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh's government. He was given additional charge of Rural Development department (December 2003 - October 2004) in Mr. Sushilkumar Shinde's government.

When Congress-NCP combine returned to power in 2004 he retained the Water Resources ministry (name changed from Irrigation department to Water Resources department) (November 2004 - October 2009) in Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh's government and later in Mr. Ashok Chavan's government. He also became the Guardian minister for Pune district in 2004 and has held the post since then. There are allegations that as the minister for water resources he spared no efforts to help in the development of Lavasa,

^[1] a project touted as a "vision of Sharad Pawar". The Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation (MKVDC) leased 141.15 hectares to Lavasa in August 2002, which included part of Warasgaon dam reservoir. The lease between MKDVC and Lavasa was executed at rates far below the market rate.^[2] This transfer was illegal as the mandatory permission from the revenue department was not taken.^{[citation needed]}

Since 2007 corporation elections and subsequent Zilla Parishad elections,he has one umbrella control over cultural city of Maharashtra, Pune and its rural area.He is also regarded as stringent and hard liner administrator. He is credited for efforts taken to resolve traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Cinchwad through vast constructions of flyovers,sub-ways and broad roads which were at times matters of criticism. He has also envisioned the implementation of Metro Rail project for mass transport in Pune. He make the Pimprichinchvad the good model of development in India.In 2011-12 Pimparichinchvadhas recived the frist national award in urban develpment.
