Lakers pick Andrew Bynum (& R. Turiaf), 2005 Draft
6-28-2005. Lakers take Drew out of HS instead of Granger, making him the youngest player EVER drafted -- that record will remain unless Stern's boys overturn the age limit that was instituted in the years following this draft. -- LA's garbage sports media tried to spin this into a controversial pick at the time, some warning them that they take Fran Vazquez (who wound up bailing on ORL after they picked him) or Sean May, who became a bust. At that time, LA had Chris Mihm, but they needed more size as they were starting ancient Brian Grant at 4 and backing him up with Brian Cook...nuff said. They passed up Danny Granger, but the FO's reasoning was that Drew was high risk, high reward (they were fully aware of his knee issues at the time, a physician advised them that he would have to be played sparingly due to the structure of his knees and because he is pigeon toed). Since the Lakers are rarely in the lottery, it was best to risk a pick on a center.

Raheim BROWN Highlight
Raheim BROWN
PF / 2m08 / 1979 / USA
A good guy, with a great attitude and very coachable; knows how to play for his team. Has a real multifaceted game, which is a rarity for a man of his size. His natural talent and athleticism allows him to do some of the things that are his strengths. His strengths are defense and blocks. His quickness and 7”2 wingspan, enables him to guard small forwards, as well as Power Forwards/ Centers. Good instincts as to where rebounds come off the rim, along with his quickness enables him to get lots of loose balls and rebounds.
Runs like a deer for a man of his size. A great leaper, and a natural scorer that plays inside/out. A proficient shooter, scores in the flow of the game.
His best is on the alley-oops and slashes, which allows him to be effective with or without the ball. Good hands and knows how to serve the open man.
Shoots the 3, and can go 1-on-1 to create his own shot.

Deron Williams NBA Debut - Mavs at Jazz - 11/2/05 (Highlights)
All-Star point guard Deron Williams, the #3 overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, made his NBA debut for the Utah Jazz November 2, 2005 against the Dallas Mavericks. In his first game, Deron played 26 minutes and scored 18 points along with 3 assists and 3 rebounds. He shot an efficient 7 of 14 from the field and 3 of 4 from behind the 3pt-line, including a spetacular 65-footer to end the 3rd-qtr (1:32-mark). Despite trailing most of the game, the Jazz turned it on in the 4th-qtr, outscoring the Mavs 28-15 in the final period. Down the stretch, Deron was able to find Mehmet Okur for several open jumpers, and Okur capped the night with a ridiculous off-balance fadeaway from 26-feet that he banked in with the shotclock expiring (5:20-mark) to seal Utah's suprising 93-82 victory. In five and a half seasons with the Jazz, Deron Williams would blossom into an All-Star and one of the best point guards in the NBA.

NBA Draft 1997 - Tim Duncan (Pick NO.1)
Timothy "Tim" Theodore Duncan (born April 25, 1976 in Christiansted, St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands) is an American professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The 6'11" (2.11 m), 260-pound (118 kg) power forward/center is a four-time NBA champion, a three-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, and the current captain of the Spurs. He has also won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award twice, and has been voted into ten All-Star games, ten All-NBA teams, and ten All-Defensive teams. Duncan started out as a swimmer and only began playing basketball in ninth grade, and had difficulties adapting. However, he soon became a standout for St. Dunstan's Episcopal High School, and had an illustrious college career with the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons, winning the Naismith College Player of the Year, USBWA College Player of the Year and John Wooden awards in his final year. Duncan graduated from college before entering the 1997 NBA Draft as the number one pick, and his list of accomplishments and leadership in the Spurs' NBA title runs in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007 have led basketball experts to consider him to be one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history. Off the court, Duncan is known for his quiet and unassuming ways, as well as his active philanthropy. He holds an honors degree in psychology and created the Tim Duncan Foundation to raise general health awareness and fund education and youth sports ...

one of the best drafts in nba history. Stephen John Nash, OC, OBC (born February 7, 1974), is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays point guard for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Brought up in a family of sportsmen, he enjoyed an outstanding high school basketball career, but garnered no attention from United States college recruiters.
