Marty Robbins Sings 'Crying Steel Guitar Walz& Island Echoes
According to Jerry Byrd the renowned steel guitarist, the main thing that attracted Marty Robbins to Hawaiian music was the chance to sing falsetto. He sang it most Hawaiian music beautifully as he did with anything he attempted. Why Marty Robbins is not up there with all the great vocalists of the last century continues to puzzle me as he was such an immensely talented vocalist who could sing any kind of song and be right at home with any genre of music.

Whistled language of the island of La Gomera (Canary Islands), the Silbo Gomero
UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2009 URL: www.unesco.org Description: The whistled language of La Gomera Island in the Canaries, the Silbo Gomero, replicates the islanders habitual language (Castilian Spanish) with whistling. Handed down over centuries from master to pupil, it is the only whistled language in the world that is fully developed and practised by a large community (more than 22000 inhabitants). The whistled language replaces each vowel or consonant with a whistling sound: two distinct whistles replace the five Spanish vowels, and there are four whistles for consonants. The whistles can be distinguished according to pitch and whether they are interrupted or continuous. With practice, whistlers can convey any message. Some local variations even point to their origin. Taught in schools since 1999, the Silbo Gomero is understood by almost all islanders and practised by the vast majority, particularly the elderly and the young. It is also used during festivities and ceremonies, including religious occasions. To prevent it from disappearing like the other whistled languages of the Canary Islands, it is important to do more for its transmission and promote the Silbo Gomero as intangible cultural heritage cherished by the inhabitants of La Gomera and the Canary Islands as a whole. Argentina Condemns UK Military Exercises In Falklands Islands
The Argentine government has expressed anger over Britain's plans for military exercises in the Falkland Islands, nearly 30 years after the two countries fought a war over their sovereignty. Britain still maintains a permanent military presence on the islands. For more news and videos visit ☛ ntd.tv Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me Nearly 30 years after Argentina's war with Britain over the Falkland Islands, tensions between the two countries are rising again. The UK has announced plans to carry out military exercises in the area, which still bears marks of the 1982 war. British officials said the drills would involve firing missiles, but no further details were given. Argentina's foreign ministry has demanded a cancellation of the planned exercises. [Alberto D'Aloto, Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister] "The Argentine government rejects the carrying out of these exercises because it constitutes an unacceptable provocation and has the propensity to generate a regional arms race. This completely contradicts the Argentine policy of searching for a peaceful solution to the controversy in accordance with the international community's calls." Monuments and graveyards on the islands are reminders of the 10-week conflict that left about 650 Argentine and 255 British troops dead. The two countries have already been at odds over British oil and gas exploration around the Falklands. Britain still maintains a permanent military presence on the islands, and ...

Afghanistan – touch down in flight
As each of us has his own impression of Afghanistan that is predominantly marked with pictures of foreign forces, explosions and terror, we were privileged to have access to capture daily life and portrait some people of Afghanistan.
We hope the pictures you know will merge with the pictures you see and will enrich your view on the country in the Hindu Kush.
locations:
Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif
We wanted to go to other places as well but there were several incidents and security was too bad. Just one day after shooting at the blue mosque in Mazar-e Sharif a mob started from the very same place storming the UN building.
I have lived from 2006-2008 in Kabul doing my civil service for a humanitarian aid organization. This March I had the chance to go back with my fiancée to show her the place I love and to capture the beauty of this country with our cameras.
At the same time I made this as a tribute to a dear friend, who was shot in the streets of Kabul. Gayle inspired me in her love and dedication for the Afghans.
After a full summer with other work we had now the chance to do the editing.
Lisa-Maria Puy who composed the music for us was wonderful to work with. We met her on Zanzibar island and back in Germany she composed this wonderful soundtrack within just 3 days (and nights). She studied music at HfM Detmold in Germany and is a very talented artist and we hope to work with her again.

EuroLapse
The images used in this time lapse were taken in 2011 over the course of three summer months in Europe. My wife's mother lives in Lithuania, just outside of the capital city Vilnius, so we decided to make it our homebase from the end of May through August while we traveled to various countries. Some of the places we had been to were new to us, others we had visited before. But all in all, it was an amazing summer and definitely an unforgettable part of our lives.
We split our summer up into four trips. Between each of these trips, we'd fly back to Vilnius and relax for a week or so before packing up and heading off again. Our first trip took us to London. We spent three nights there before catching a quick flight over to Amsterdam. We spent another three nights (which became our default) in Amsterdam and then took a train down to Paris. We originally planned on three nights in Paris, but after day two, we realized how much more we wanted to do and that we didn't have enough time. So we extended our stay and ended up being there for six nights. I can't recall why, but for some reason, we had to cut the trip short and head back to Vilnius after Paris.
Next on our list was Scandinavia (or at least part of it). Neither of us had been there before, so we were super pumped. We started with three nights in Stockholm, followed by three nights in Copenhagen, another three in Helsinki, and capped it off with a final three nights in Riga. We really wanted to go to Norway, but felt that it would require an entirely separate trip of its own, just to explore the fjords and all of the beautiful natural scenery. Stockholm was an amazing city and we both agreed that we could easily settle down there. Riga also blew us away and I feel like it's one of the most underrated cities in all of Europe.
After another week or two back in Vilnius, we headed to the island of Crete for a week at an all-inclusive resort. We took a day trip to Santorini, which consisted of the most hellish eight-hour round trip boat ride ever, but that's another story. Definitely want to get back to Santorini, but we'd have to go for at least a few nights to make it worth it. Such a beautiful island.
Back to Vilnius again for another week or so, and then we headed out to Italy. Our summer in Europe was ending soon, so we only had enough time to visit Cinque Terre for three nights, with one night in Milan on each end of that trip.
The summer of 2011 was surreal. We visited so many places, saw so much, ate so much, and it all happened so quickly. Thank you to my amazing wife for being my little assistant and for having the patience to stand around waiting for all of these time lapses to finish!

Timelapse Croatia - showreel / teaser
[[EDIT]]
Just a few words, since we've been flooded with questions, comments, e-mails, tweets etc.
First of all, thanks to everyone on such really overwhelmingly positive reactions!
The movie you're about to see is a preview of what we would like to do, in regards of representing Croatia as a destination in a different way.
No one commissioned us to do this, we put our own work, time, gear, money and ideas into it. Because of this we chose the locations, the editing and music as we saw fit.
Of course, what we ended up putting in this video is merely a fragment of what Croatia has to offer. As photographers who have traveled across our country from one end to another, we are well aware that there is so much more to be filmed. And we are more than happy to do it - after all, we're two guys who really love their job. It's simply that the pace at which we can finish this project will depend mostly on if we can get financial support, or we'll have to figure out some other way to pull this off.
Explaining timelapse technique to an average person, or a potential client can be very hard. Even most of our colleagues have no real sense of how demanding timelapses can be. So we decided to skip on the whining and tried to show what timelapse is really about and how visually attractive it can be.
Almost a full year of work went into this. Months and months of work and hundreds of thousands photographs for a few minutes of video. Sounds silly, but that's basically how it is. For example, we spent last 3 months literally sitting at our workstations editing and rendering frame after frame, shot after shot, location after location. Crazy people :)
So, if by the end of this year we end up with another 4 minutes of worthwhile material, we'll be more than happy to share!
Until then, lay back, relax and enjoy!

Images Of Papua New Guinea - Scene 1
As promised this is the first installment of my journey to the remote islands and villages of Papua New Guinea on the vessel the True North.
I was asked by owners Craig Howson and Mark Stothard to record the journey through the lens of my trusty 5D mk2 in a way that highlights the beauty of this spectacular country.
I was slightly nervous about PNG as you hear stories about it being an unsafe travel destination but this could not be further from the truth. It was so the opposite that I hope my short productions can dispel any doubts people have about this wonderful country.
Northstar Cruises have been building and fine tuning their Adventures in Paradise PNG tour for 5 years now and it's a credit to the crew of True North for it's well planned, interactive, and safe tour through one of the most remote places in the world.
Papua New Guinea is one of the most beautiful, clean and friendly places I have ever visited and am hoping to return one day to see more of this spectacular land.
It's a photographers paradise and as with the remote Kimberley of Western Australia one of the best travel experiences available.
For all of you who care this production was shot by me using the following equipment. Boy was I tired after I got back.
Two Canon 5D mk2's, Canon lenses 16/35mm, 24mm, 85mm, 18mm tiltshift, 400mm. Fostex FR2LE Field Recorder, Rode Mic's, Azden Wireless Mic's, Aqua Tech Water Housing, Various filters, Lee, Polarizers etc. Macbook Pro, MacPro, Final Cut Studio 7.
