Cambuslang ⁱ/ˈkæmbəsˈlæŋ/ (Scots: Cammuslang, from Scottish Gaelic: Camas Long) is a suburban town on the south-eastern outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland. It is within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire. Historically, it was a large rural Parish incorporating nearby hamlets of Newton, Flemington, and Halfway. It is known as "the largest village in Scotland", with a population of around 24,500. The town is located just south of the River Clyde and about 6 miles (9.7 km) south-east of the centre of Glasgow. It has a long history of coal mining, iron and steel making, and ancillary engineering works, most recently Hoover. Tata Steel Europe's Clydebridge Steel Works and other smaller manufacturing businesses continue but most employment in the area comes from the distribution or service industries.
Cambuslang is an ancient part of Scotland where Iron Age remains loom over 21st century housing developments. The local geography explains a great deal of its history. It has been very prosperous over time, depending first upon its agricultural land, (supplying food, then wool, then linen), then the mineral resources under its soil (limestone and coal, and, to some extent, iron). These were jealously guarded by the medieval Church, and later by the local aristocracy, particularly the Duke of Hamilton (previously Barons of Cadzow and Earls of Arran).

Ethiopia
Ethiopia ( /ˌiːθiˈoʊpiə/) (Ge'ez: ኢትዮጵያ ʾĪtyōṗṗyā), officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is a landlocked country located in the Horn of Africa. It is the second-most populous nation in Africa, with over 82 million inhabitants, and the tenth largest by area, occupying 1,100,000 km². Ethiopia is bordered by Eritrea to the north, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south. With its capital at Addis Ababa, it is also the most populous landlocked nation in the world.
Ethiopia was a monarchy for most of its history, and the Ethiopian dynasty traces its roots to the 2nd century BC. Ethiopia is also one of the oldest sites of human existence known to scientists today, having yielded some of humanity's oldest traces. It may be the region from which Homo sapiens first set out for the Middle East and points beyond. Alongside Rome, Persia, China and India, the Ethiopian Aksum Empire was considered one of the great world powers of the 3rd century. During the Scramble for Africa, Ethiopia was the only African country beside Liberia that retained its sovereignty as a recognized independent country, and was one of only four African members of the League of Nations. After a brief period of Italian occupation, Ethiopia became a charter member of the United Nations. When other African nations received their independence following World War II, many of them adopted the colors of Ethiopia's flag, and Addis Ababa became the location of several international organizations focused on Africa.

Lanarkshire
Lanarkshire or the County of Lanark Scottish Gaelic: Siorrachd Lannraig) is a Lieutenancy area, registration county and former local government county in the central Lowlands of Scotland. Historically, Lanarkshire was the most populous county in Scotland and, in earlier times, had considerably greater boundaries, including neighbouring Renfrewshire until 1402. In modern times, it was bounded to the north by Stirlingshire and a detached portion of Dunbartonshire, to the northeast by Stirlingshire, West Lothian, to the east by Peeblesshire, to the southeast and south by Dumfriesshire, to the southwest by Dumfriesshire and Ayrshire and to the west by Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Dunbartonshire.
Lanarkshire was historically divided between two administrative areas then, in the mid-18th century, was divided again into three wards: the upper, middle and lower wards with their administrative centres at Lanark, Hamilton and Glasgow respectively and remained this way until the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889. Other significant settlements include East Kilbride, Motherwell, Airdrie, Coatbridge, Blantyre, Cambuslang, Rutherglen and Wishaw.

Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone (ⁱ/siːˌɛrə liːˈoʊn/), officially the Republic of Sierra Leone, is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Guinea to the northeast, Liberia to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southwest. Sierra Leone is a constitutional representative democratic republic and covers a total area of 71,740 km² (27,699 sq mi) Sierra Leone has a tropical climate, with a diverse environment ranging from savannah to rainforests. As of 2011, Sierra Leone has an estimated population of 6 million[1] (2011 United Nations estimte). Freetown is the capital, largest city as well as its economic, commercial, educational, cultural and political centre. Bo is the country's second largest city and the second major economic and commercial centre.
Sierra Leone is divided into four geographical regions: the Northern Province, Eastern Province, Southern Province and the Western Area; which are subdivided into fourteen districts. The districts have their own directly elected local government known as district council, headed by a council chairman. The country's six municipalities of Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Makeni, Koidu Town and the coastal town of Bonthe have their own directly elected city councils headed by mayors.

Alan Titchmarsh
Alan Fred Titchmarsh,MBE DL (born 2 May 1949) is an English gardener, broadcaster and novelist. After working as a professional gardener and a gardening journalist, he established himself as a media personality through appearances on gardening programmes. More recently he has developed a diverse writing and broadcasting career.
Titchmarsh was born in Ilkley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, the son of Bessie (née Hardisty), a textile mill worker, and Alan Fred Titchmarsh, Sr., a plumber. After leaving school aged 15, Titchmarsh went to work as an apprentice gardener with Ilkley Council in 1964, before leaving, in 1968 aged 18, for Shipley Art and Technology Institute (now Shipley College) to study for a City and Guilds in horticulture. Titchmarsh was a close family friend of Tom Kerridge, who went on to become his gardening advisor on shows such as Ground Force.
Titchmarsh went on to study at Hertfordshire College of Agriculture and Horticulture for the National Certificate in Horticulture, before finally moving to the renowned Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to study for a Diploma in Horticulture. After graduating, he stayed on at Kew, being employed as a supervisor and latterly a staff trainer, leaving to pursue a career in gardening journalism in 1974.^{[citation needed]}

Andy Gee
Andy Gee (born Andreas Gröber, September 1950 in Berlin) is a German guitarist and musician, best known for his time with Peter Bardens and as a temporary member of Thin Lizzy.
Gee began playing guitar in 1958, and was a member of a school band in the early 1960s. After passing through a number of Frankfurt groups, he moved to Ireland in 1967. He joined Irish showband The Nights in 1968, and subsequently played and toured with British band Springfield Park. He then teamed up with Pete Bardens, and played on his 1969 album, The Answer, also featuring Peter Green. Gee also featured on Bardens' follow-up album, Write My Name in the Dust. In 1970, Gee joined Follow the Buffalo, and the following year he teamed up with Steve Ellis and his new band Ellis. Ellis recorded two albums in the early 1970s, Riding on the Crest of a Slump and Why Not?, before splitting up.
In 1974, after Gary Moore had left Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott was looking for two temporary guitarists to replace Moore for a tour of Germany. He chose Gee and ex-Atomic Rooster member John Cann. During the tour, Gee and Lynott reworked a then-unreleased track, "Suicide", from the single-guitar piece that the band had played with Eric Bell, into a dual-guitar arrangement. The track later surfaced on the Fighting album in 1975, with Scott Gorham playing Gee's parts. After the tour had ended, Gee helped Thin Lizzy audition for new guitarists, but was not considered for a permanent role as he was still under contract to a different record company.

Annabel Giles
Annabel Giles (born 20 May 1959) has been a model, a television and radio presenter, an actress, a comedienne and a novellist during her career (1982–present).
Highlights from those careers include an exclusive contract with Max Factor, being a regular reporter on Loose Ends and starring in several pantomimes. Her one-woman show at the Edinburgh Festival, called Looking for Mr.Giles, was a sellout. She is also a Penguin author; her first novel, Birthday Girls reached No 6 in the Sunday Times Best Seller List of October 2001 and sold 120, 000 copies that year. She later released Crossing the Paradise Line in 2003 and followed this up with, The Defrosting of Charlotte Small, in spring 2006.
Giles has had a varied career in television and radio. In the 1990s she was the presenter of ITV's Posh Frocks and New Trousers. She has been a panelist on many game shows ranging from Have I Got News for You to Shooting Stars, was a regular on Through the Keyhole and has appeared twice on BBC Radio 4's Just a Minute. On Noel Edmonds' House Party she famously guessed a Gotcha! before it had even started.

Barry Adamson
Barry Adamson (born 11 June 1958, Moss Side, Manchester) is a British rock musician who has worked with rock bands such as Magazine, Visage, The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and the electronic musicians Pan sonic. Adamson has also remixed Grinderman, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Depeche Mode. He created the seven-minute opus "Useless (Escape From Wherever: Pts. 1 & 2)" remix for the latter band in 1997. He has also worked on the soundtrack for David Lynch's Lost Highway, and released numerous solo recordings.
He read comic books from an early age. In school he absorbed himself in art, music and film, writing his first song, "Brain Pain", at the age of 10. His musical influences were diverse, ranging from Alice Cooper to Motown to David Bowie.
Adamson left school and shifted into graphic design attending Stockport Art College but quit shortly after, favouring to venture into the exploding punk rock scene of the late 1970s. He joined ex-Buzzcocks singer Howard Devoto's band Magazine, playing bass guitar, scoring one chart single, "Shot by Both Sides"; in late 1977, he also joined Buzzcocks, as a short-time replacement of Garth Smith. He played on all of Magazine's albums, and contributed to Devoto's solo album and his next band, Luxuria. He also contributed to the studio-based band Visage, playing on the ensemble's first two albums, Visage and The Anvil.

Bernadette Nolan
Bernadette Therese "Bernie" Nolan (born 17 October 1960^{[citation needed]}) is an Irish actress, singer and television personality, formerly lead vocalist of The Nolans. Her siblings are Anne, Brian, Denise, Maureen, Tommy, Linda and Coleen Nolan. She is the second youngest. She was raised in Blackpool, Lancashire, England.
Nolan's parents were Tommy, a violent heavy drinker who died of liver cancer aged 73 in 1998, and Maureen Nolan, who died aged 81 of Alzheimer's disease in Blackpool on 30 December 2007.
Before The Nolan sisters became household names, she and her sisters, parents and brothers would perform in clubs and pubs in Blackpool. She originally found fame in a pop group which included her five sisters and they had hits such as "I'm in the Mood for Dancing" (their biggest hit), "Don't Make Waves", "Attention to Me" and "Gotta Pull Myself Together". The Nolans sold millions of records worldwide, particularly in Japan where they sold over 9 million albums. Nolan also turned her hand to song writing during this time when she wrote two tracks for their 1982 album Portrait.

Billy Currie
Billy Currie (born William Lee Currie, 1 April 1950, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England) is an English violist, violinist, pianist, keyboardist, and songwriter. He is best known for his work with New Wave band Ultravox, who achieved their greatest commercial success in the 1980s.
In 1974, Currie left the art group Ritual Theatre to join the glam rock band Tiger Lily on viola and keyboard. In 1976, after several name changes, the band ultimately became Ultravox and recorded three albums, Ultravox!, Ha! Ha! Ha! and Systems of Romance, before singer John Foxx left to pursue a solo career in 1979.
During Ultravox's subsequent hiatus, Currie dedicated himself to different projects. He collaborated with Gary Numan who had admired the Systems Of Romance album and asked Currie to record some songs that were included on his first solo album, The Pleasure Principle. Currie toured with Numan's band during 1979. During soundchecks for the tour Currie, with Gary Numan band musician Chris Payne began to develop a song of their own called "Toot City". Currie had also joined the studio-based band Visage, fronted by Steve Strange, that also included Midge Ure. Currie and Ure developed a solid working relationship. Visage drummer Rusty Egan encouraged Currie to ask Ure to join the defunct Ultravox as lead singer/guitarist. Whilst composing material for a new Ultravox album and for the debut Visage album, Ure collaborated with Currie on the "Toot City" track which eventually became "Fade to Grey". The single became a huge hit for Visage in early 1981. However, this was surpassed by Ultravox's hit "Vienna", released around the same time. Both Ultravox and Visage became highly successful recording acts in the early 1980s. Ure decided to leave Visage to focus on Ultravox full time in 1982. Currie remained with Visage for a while longer, but he too had left by 1984.

Billy McIsaac
Billy McIsaac (born William McIsaac, 12 July 1949, Rothesay, Scotland) is a musician, who played mainly keyboards since his early days with different pop bands, and still does, with his current ceremony-band The Billy McIsaac Band.
Previously to be in the music business, he worked as a telephone engineer and played with a band called The Bubbles. In 1972, he joined Salvation, formed by brothers Kevin and Jim McGinlay, along with drummer Kenny Hyslop and guitarist Midge Ure. After Kevin McGinlay left in 1974, the band became Slik and began to release singles, among them, two hits: "Forever and Ever" and "Requiem", both released in eponymous singles, in 1975 and 1976, respectively. Slik fame was growing during 1976, but late that year, punk rock bands were hitting the musical scene, so in 1977, the band changed their name, to PVC2, after McGinlay was replaced by Russell Webb, and began to play as the latter bands did. In September 1977, Midge Ure left PVC2, and the rest called Willie Gardner to replace him, and the band renamed themselves as Zones. Zones lasted until 1979, and the band finally split up, and McIsaac continued with a project called Science, a band considered as a continuation of Zones, but only McIsaac was the supposedly remaining member, while drummer Kenny Hyslop and bassist Russell Webb joined The Skids, Ure joined Thin Lizzy, Ultravox and Visage and the McGinlay brothers were working alone again.

Bob Geldof
Robert Frederick Zenon "Bob" Geldof, KBE, (born 5 October 1951) is an Irish singer, songwriter, author, occasional actor and political activist. He rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Irish rock band The Boomtown Rats in the late 1970s and early 1980s alongside the punk rock movement. The band had hits with his compositions "Rat Trap" and "I Don't Like Mondays". He co-wrote "Do They Know It's Christmas?", one of the best-selling singles of all time. He starred as Pink in Pink Floyd's 1982 film Pink Floyd The Wall.
Geldof is widely recognised for his activism, especially anti-poverty efforts concerning Africa. In 1984 he and Midge Ure founded the charity supergroup Band Aid to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. They went on to organise the charity super-concert Live Aid the following year and the Live 8 concerts in 2005. Geldof currently serves as an adviser to the ONE Campaign, founded by fellow Irish humanitarian Bono. A single father, Geldof has also been outspoken for the fathers' rights movement. Geldof has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II, and is a recipient of the Man of Peace title which recognises individuals who have made "an outstanding contribution to international social justice and peace", among numerous other awards and nominations.

Brian Eno
Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno (born 15 May 1948), commonly known as Brian Eno or simply as Eno ( /ˈiːnoʊ/^{[citation needed]}), is an English musician, composer, record producer, singer, and visual artist, known as one of the principal innovators of ambient music.
Eno studied at Colchester Institute art school in Essex, England, taking inspiration from minimalist painting. During his time on the art course at the Institute, he also gained experience in playing and making music through teaching sessions held in the adjacent music school.
He joined the band Roxy Music as keyboard and synthesiser player in the early 1970s. Roxy Music's success in the glam rock scene came quickly, but Eno soon tired of touring and of conflicts with lead singer Bryan Ferry.
Eno's solo music has explored more experimental musical styles and ambient music. It has also been extremely influential, pioneering ambient and generative music, innovating production techniques, and emphasising "theory over practice". He also introduced the concept of chance music to popular audiences, partially through collaborations with other musicians.

Brian Robertson
Brian "Robbo" David Robertson (born 12 September 1956) is a Scottish rock guitarist, best known for his work with Thin Lizzy and Motörhead.
Robertson was born in Clarkston, Renfrewshire (now part of East Renfrewshire), where he was educated, attending Eastwood High School and became a musician. He studied cello and classical piano for eight years before switching to the guitar and drums. He played in gigs around his local area with bands like Dream Police, who later evolved into the Average White Band.
In June 1974, Thin Lizzy were auditioning for a new guitarist and a try-out for Robertson was arranged. Aged 18, Robertson was taken on along with Scott Gorham on the other lead guitar. The two lead guitarists provided a critical part of Thin Lizzy's signature sound, referred to by critics as their "twin guitar attack". During his time in the band, Robertson was a contributing member to five studio albums released by Thin Lizzy: Nightlife (1974), Fighting (1975), Jailbreak (1976), Johnny the Fox (1976), Bad Reputation (1977) and a live album Live and Dangerous (1978).

Cheryl Baker
Cheryl Baker (born Rita Maria Crudgington, 8 March 1954, Bethnal Green, London) is an English television presenter and singer. She is most famous for being a member of 1980s pop group Bucks Fizz, and has performed for the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, winning it the second time.
After leaving school and a series of secretarial jobs, Cheryl Baker began her professional singing career with the band Co-Co. The group entered A Song for Europe in 1976 with the song "Wake Up". They came second, being beaten by (eventual Eurovision winners) Brotherhood of Man by two points.
The group continued to perform together and in 1978, they entered A Song for Europe again with "The Bad Old Days". This time they won and went on to perform for the UK in Paris. The song managed 11th place - the lowest placing by a UK entry up to that point. The song became a hit single, reaching 13 in the UK Singles Chart. On the back of this, the group released their first (and only) album as well as further singles. None of these found any success.

Chris Cross
Chris Cross (born Christopher Thomas Allen, 14 July 1952, Tottenham, London, England) is the bass guitarist in the band Ultravox.
Cross went to Belmont Secondary Modern School, William Forster Comprehensive. He began his music career playing in different bands, in Tottenham, North London, his major early influences were The Small Faces, Desmond Dekker, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.
Later he joined Stoned Rose, in Preston, Lancashire, alongside Pete Hughes and Mick Carroll, who later went to form Ritzi, but also decided to study a long standing interest in Psychology at college.
In 1973, he returned to go to Art College in London, begun studying Art and Psychology meanwhile he also answered the ad for members to form a 'new' band, put by in Dennis Leigh, an art student in London, thus forming Tiger Lily along with guitarist Stevie Shears, drummer Warren Cann joined shortly and violinist/keyboardist Billy Currie added the next year. During the Tiger Lily phase he began to name himself as Chris St. John.

Claire Richards
Claire Ann Richards (born 17 August 1977)^{[citation needed]} is an English singer best known for being a member of Steps from 1997 to 2001 and again from 2011. She was a contestant on the second series of Popstar to Operastar before being voted off in the Semi Finals. Richards possesses the vocal range of a soprano.

Richards began her career in the pop trio TSD with Cossie and Bonnie. They had little success and were dropped by their record label after the release of their second single "Baby I Love You". Richards went on to work as a receptionist for seven months, winning the temporary worker of the month award for May 1997.
Richards auditioned for the lineup that would become Steps. She was offered a place in the group on the condition that she lost weight. Steps were formed by Steve Crosby & Barry Upton (writers of "5, 6, 7, 8") alongside Manager Tim Byrne after auditioning hopefuls who answered an ad in The Stage newspaper. Byrne had previously been involved in the production of the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party, the BBC collaboration with the pop magazine, Smash Hits. Byrne was looking to manufacture a band in order to release "5, 6, 7, 8" as a one-hit wonder. After auditions, the original line-up of H, Lisa, Maddy, Derek and Mitch was finalised and the band started shooting promotional images and recording tracks. However, Maddy, Derek and Mitch left, as they wanted more than a one-hit wonder, and saw no long-term future with Steps. New auditions were held on 7 May 1997, this time with H and Lisa acting as the judging panel, and they selected Faye, Lee and Claire as the remaining members.

Conny Plank
Konrad "Conny" Plank (May 3, 1940 – December 18, 1987) was a German record producer and musician. He was born in Hütschenhausen. His creativity as a sound engineer and producer helped to shape many innovative recordings of postwar European popular music, covering a wide range of genres including progressive, avant-garde, electronic music and krautrock. His immense catalog of work has greatly influenced modern studio production and engineering techniques.
As a musician, Plank is credited on albums by Guru Guru, Cluster, Liliental and Os Mundi. He collaborated with Dieter Moebius on five Moebius & Plank studio albums recorded between 1979 and 1986. The Moebius & Plank sound foreshadowed techno and electronica and influenced many later musicians.
Plank and the bands he worked with in Germany had a strong influence on mainstream rock artists, some of whom were able to popularise aspects of his production technique and his highly distinctive sonic approach. In the 1980s the new generation of electronic pop bands were able to realise his ideas in performance as computerised electronic instruments became readily available.

Craig Revel Horwood
Craig Revel Horwood (born 4 January 1965) is an Australian-British dancer, choreographer, and theatre director in the United Kingdom. He is a patron of the National Osteoporosis Society. Revel Horwood has substantial theatre credits in choreography and directing, but is perhaps best known as a judge on the television programme, Strictly Come Dancing. He published his autobiography in 2008.
Born in Ballarat, Australia in 1965, Horwood started his career as a dancer in Melbourne, then moved to London to take advantage of the greater opportunities available there. In 1989 he moved to the UK from Australia, and on 20 August 2011 became a British citizen.
In his autobiography, Horwood (nicknamed Craig Revel Horrid) reveals that at the age of 17 he made money by appearing as a drag queen in bars and clubs, and that his relationship with an unnamed celebrity was akin to prostitution.
He has twice undergone plastic surgery. The first occasion was a "nose job" at the age of 18. In 2011, Revel Horwood revealed that he had undergone a breast reduction during 2010 because his "C"-size cups rendered dancing painful.

Damon Johnson
Damon Rogers Johnson (born July 13, 1964) is an American born guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, best known for his work with the hard rock band Brother Cane, and as a guitarist for Alice Cooper. He is the lead guitarist and backup vocalist for country music group Whiskey Falls. He had been the guitarist of the Alice Cooper band 2004 to 2007 and again since 2009. In 2011 he replaced Richard Fortus in Thin Lizzy.
Johnson lived in Monroeville, Alabama during his grade school years. It was there that he became obsessed with guitar and formed his first garage band with other 8th grade friends. He later moved with his family to Geraldine, Alabama where he graduated high school, all the while playing in various bands in the northeast Alabama area. He also enjoyed walks at night with nothing but his guitar. No clothes, or even a flashlight.^{[citation needed]}
An offer to join Split The Dark, an established band fronted by former members of the power-pop band Hotel, prompted Johnson's move to Birmingham, Alabama in 1987. Split The Dark was a very popular act on the Southeast US college club circuit, and had won the MTV "Basement Tapes" competition in 1986 but failed to secure a record deal. He would later get his first taste of "bands with record deals" as the guitarist for the Atlanta, Georgia band Witness in 1988 and with the Memphis, Tennessee band, Delta Rebels, in 1989. During this time he also performed with the bands Chinatown and Chyld. It was with Chyld that Johnson garnered the attention of the A&R at Virgin Records. After securing a developmental deal in November 1990, the label eventually persuaded Johnson to take over the lead vocal position, and change the band's name to Brother Cane.

Dani Jacobs
Dani Jacobs (born April 16, 1963) is a British music video director and editor.
Jacobs was born in London. He went to University of Manchester to study Physics but left to pursue his interests in Film.
He worked at the The Haçienda nightclub as a resident filmmaker and VJ, creating visuals and lighting effects to project in the club space. The nascent indie scene around Factory Records and dance music scene around The Haçienda assisted his entry into music videos.
In 1986 Jacobs formed Swivel with three other partners as a video production company and creative team. Early music videos by Swivel included work for A Guy Called Gerald,James (band), The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Sundays and 808 State. In 1989 a small article in i-D Magazine helped draw more attention from major record labels and Jacobs moved back to London to set up the Swivel office concentrating on video production.
In 1993 Jacobs directed videos for Tears for Fears, Texas and Steps (group) and joined the American company Squeak Pictures. His subsequent career has included a wide variety of musical acts including, Moby,The Corrs,Gary Barlow, Midge Ure, Phil Collins and Cradle of Filth.

Darius Campbell
Darius Campbell (born Darius Campbell-Danesh, 19 August 1980), also known professionally either as Darius Danesh or simply Darius, is a Scottish platinum-selling singer-songwriter, a West End stage actor, an operatic baritone, a Sunday Times best-selling author, and an Ambassador for The Prince's Trust.
He performed the role of Billy Flynn in the West End production of Chicago, the youngest one ever to play that part, in two successful runs of that musical. In 2010 he trained with tenor Rolando Villazón, won the hit ITV1 competition Popstar to Operastar, and performed a duet with Villazón on "The Impossible Dream." Early that year, he corrected the unauthorized deletion of Campbell from his surname. The United Kingdom's biggest operatic production ever was the occasion of his operatic debut, at The O₂ arena with the Royal Philharmonic, in Carmen. At 29, he became the youngest performer to assume the lead role of Carmen's lover, a role more often awarded to a baritone in his forties.

Darren Wharton
Darren Wharton (born Darren Leigh Wharton, 24 December 1962, Failsworth, Lancashire) is a British keyboardist, singer and songwriter. He has fronted his own band, Dare since 1989, but first came to attention as a member of Thin Lizzy.
Thin Lizzy had not had a keyboard player since their early gigs in Ireland, and Wharton was contacted by Phil Lynott while performing with a cover band. He was only 17 when he contributed keyboards to their 1980 album Chinatown. By the following year on the album Renegade he had become an official member of the band, co writing the opening track with Lynott 'Angel Of Death'.
Wharton continued with the band on the follow-up Thunder And Lightning in 1983, having a greater share in the writing credits, most notably on "The Sun Goes Down", but that year Lynott announced the break-up of Thin Lizzy.

Dave Flett
Dave Flett (born David Flett, 1951, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland) is a British rock guitarist, chiefly known for his time with Manfred Mann's Earth Band between 1975 and 1978.

Dave Formula
Dave Formula, (born David Tomlinson 11 August 1946, Whalley Range, Manchester, England), is an English keyboardist and film-soundtrack composer from Manchester, who played with the post-punk band Magazine, and New Romantic ensemble Visage during the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s and in the "world music" band The Angel Brothers.
He lived his early youth in Whalley Range, Manchester.
He worked under the name of David Tomlinson and achieved some success back in the mid-sixties with the R and B blues/soul band St. Louis Union, including appearances on 'Top of the Pops' and in the film 'The Ghost goes gear' (featuring also the Spencer Davis Band); at the time he formed the group, worked as an apprentice television engineer. Later he was a cabaret musician and before joining Magazine, he shared a flat with record producer Martin Hannett.
Formula joined Magazine in 1978 after the departure of Bob Dickinson until the band's breakup in 1981. His multi-layered keyboard sounds, made with equipment such as the Yamaha CP70 electric grand piano, Hammond B-3, an ARP Odyssey, a Yamaha SS30 string synth and in later albums a Prophet 5, were a defining part of the band.

Eric Bell
Eric Robin Bell (born 3 September 1947 in East Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a Northern Irish rock musician and guitarist, best known as a founder member and the original guitarist of the rock group Thin Lizzy.
Bell began his career with local groups around the Belfast area, including the last incarnation of Them to feature Van Morrison, between September and October 1966. He also played with a number of other bands including Shades of Blue, The Earth Dwellers and The Bluebeats, before joining an Irish showband named The Dreams. He left in 1969 having tired of the showband format, and at the end of that year he formed a band with local musicians Phil Lynott, Eric Wrixon and Brian Downey. Bell named the group Thin Lizzy, after Tin Lizzie, a robot character in The Dandy comic.
Wrixon left Thin Lizzy after a few months, and the remaining trio later secured a contract with Decca Records. As lead guitarist, Bell played on Thin Lizzy's first three albums Thin Lizzy, Shades of a Blue Orphanage and Vagabonds of the Western World, as well as their hit single "Whiskey in the Jar". He co-wrote a number of songs with Lynott and Downey, including "The Rocker" which became a live favourite throughout the band's career. He also composed one song on his own, "Ray Gun", from their first album, Thin Lizzy.

Eric Wrixon
Eric Wrixon (born 29 June 1947, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a musician from Northern Ireland. He was a founder member of both Them and Thin Lizzy. It was Wrixon who came up with the enigmatic band name 'Them' (from the 1954 sci-fi film Them!), but as he was a minor his parents declined to sign a recording contract on his behalf and he was replaced in July 1964 prior to recording with the band. By August 1965, he had completed his studies and very briefly returned to Them.
Wrixon was next a member of Belfast R&B group The People and probably played on the two tracks they contributed to the February 1966 compilation album Ireland's Greatest Sounds: Five Top Groups From Belfast's Maritime Club (both tracks feature keyboards). While the People were based in Blackpool, Wrixon left in mid-1966 (around the time the band was joined by guitar player Henry McCullough) to join another Belfast band, the Wheels, with whom he recorded the single 'Kicks' in August 1966. In 1967, he moved to Germany with The Never Never Band and subsequently joined Irish midlands-based pop group The Trixons, who also released a number of singles in the late '60s. Wrixon quit in 1969, when he and fellow-Belfast exile Eric Bell began recruiting a new band from among the Dublin musical scene. The result in early 1970 was Thin Lizzy, but Wrixon left in July of that year due to lack of finances and returned to Germany.

Francesco DiCosmo
Francesco DiCosmo is an Italian-born American rock musician, best known for his work with Evanescence and Thin Lizzy, and as a session musician playing bass guitar.
DiCosmo started to learn the bass guitar aged 15, and played with a number of bands in the northeastern Pennsylvania area, before moving to Los Angeles and being chosen by Billy Sheehan to take part in the Musicians Institute Scholarship Contest. DiCosmo attended the Institute during the 1990s, graduating in 1995, and subsequently teaching and providing private tuition.
In the late 1990s, DiCosmo joined Mumbo's Brain with former Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland, and also performed on Poland's solo album Chasing the Sun. He later worked with Stanley Whittaker (ex-Happy the Man), with whom he formed Spirit Noise, along with his brother Rico DiCosmo. He subsequently undertook more session work with a number of artists.
In 2002, DiCosmo worked with Evanescence on their debut album Fallen, which was released the following year. The album produced a number of hit singles featuring DiCosmo's playing, including "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal". The album earned the band five nominations at the 46th Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, Best Hard Rock Performance and Grammy Award for Best New Artist, winning Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance.

Gary Kemp
Gary Kemp (born 16 October 1959) is an English pop musician and actor who is the guitar player and chief songwriter for the 1980s Synthpop band Spandau Ballet. His brother, Martin Kemp, plays bass guitar in the band. Gary Kemp also provided backing vocals on many of the tracks to lead singer Tony Hadley.
Kemp was born in St Bartholomew's Hospital, Smithfield, London, and grew up in Islington, London, in a working-class family. He attended Rotherfield Junior School and Dame Alice Owen's school, Islington, as well as the Anna Scher Children’s Theatre drama club, along with his brother, Martin. In 1968 he began appearing in TV and film, including a role in the 1972 film Hide & Seek, alongside Roy Dotrice.
Kemp eventually decided to concentrate on a career in music and, in the late Seventies, he formed a band called The Gentry with school friends. The Gentry was later renamed Spandau Ballet.
After recording Spandau Ballet's final album, Heart Like A Sky, Kemp and his brother returned to acting. He won the contempt of his fellow band members, Tony Hadley, Steve Norman and John Keeble, but good reviews for his performance as Ronnie Kray in The Krays (1990). Making this film was the death-knell to Spandau Ballet.

Gary Moore
Robert William Gary Moore (4 April 1952 – 6 February 2011), was a Northern Irish musician, most widely recognised as a blues singer and guitarist.
In a career dating back to the 1960s, Moore played with artists including Phil Lynott and Brian Downey during his teens, leading him to memberships with the Irish bands Skid Row and Thin Lizzy on three separate occasions. Moore shared the stage with such blues and rock luminaries as B.B. King, Albert King, Colosseum II, George Harrison and Greg Lake, as well as having a successful solo career. He guested on a number of albums recorded by high profile musicians, including a cameo appearance playing the lead guitar solo on "She's My Baby" from Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3.
Moore started performing at a young age, having picked up a battered acoustic guitar at the age of eight. He got his first quality guitar at the age of 14, learning to play the right-handed instrument in the standard way despite being left-handed. He moved to Dublin in 1968 at the age of 16. His early musical influences were artists such as Albert King, Elvis Presley, The Shadows and The Beatles. Later, having seen Jimi Hendrix and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in his home town of Belfast, his own style was developing into a blues-rock sound that would be the dominant form of his career in music.

George Martin
Sir George Henry Martin CBE (born 3 January 1926) is an English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, audio engineer and musician. He is sometimes referred to as "the Fifth Beatle"—a title that he has described as "nonsense"—in reference to his extensive involvement on each of The Beatles' original albums. He is considered one of the greatest record producers of all time, with 30 number one hit singles in the UK and 23 number one hits in the USA.
Influenced by a range of musical styles, encompassing Cole Porter and Johnny Dankworth, he attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from 1947 to 1950, studying piano and oboe. Following his graduation, he worked for the BBC's classical music department, then joined EMI in 1950. Martin produced comedy and novelty records in the early 1950s, working with the likes of Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan.
In a career spanning over six decades, Martin has worked in music, film, television and live performance. He has also held a number of senior executive roles at media companies and contributes to a wide range of charitable causes, including his work for the Prince's Trust and the Caribbean island of Montserrat.

Glen Matlock
Glen Matlock (born 27 August 1956, Paddington, West London) is an English bass guitarist most famous for being in the original line-up of the punk rock band the Sex Pistols. His creative contribution to the band has been disputed. Drummer Paul Cook has said that Matlock came up with much of the music for the band's songs and most of the lyrics, while lead singer Johnny Rotten made some adjustments.^{[citation needed]} Matlock is credited as a co-author on 10 of the 12 songs on Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols. He also continues to make his own records and tour with various bands, including the Sex Pistols.
Matlock left the Sex Pistols in late February 1977, the legend being that he was 'thrown out' because he "liked The Beatles." Although Matlock has said that one of his biggest influences is The Faces, the Beatles anecdote is fictional. A claim made by the Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, regarding how he thought it was bizarre that Matlock was "always washing his feet", has also been misquoted and misinterpreted as the cause of Matlock's firing from the group. In his autobiography, I Was a Teenage Sex Pistol, Matlock stated that he left the band of his own volition as he was "sick of all the bullshit". In the 2000 documentary The Filth and the Fury, the band members generally agree that there was tension between Matlock and Rotten, which Matlock suggests was exacerbated by Malcolm McLaren's attempts to pit the two men against each other. Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious, and went on to form The Rich Kids, a New Wave power pop band, with himself as bass guitarist and singer, Midge Ure (guitarist, singer and keyboard player), Steve New (guitarist and singer) and Rusty Egan (drummer). After The Rich Kids he formed The Spectres with Tom Robinson Band guitarist Danny Kustow, and subsequently Mick Hanson, and then Hot Club with guitarist James Stevenson and singer Steve Allen.

Grace Bawden
Grace Bawden (born 7 October 1992) is an Australian classical crossover singer, who has been dubbed "Australia's greatest operatic discovery", after becoming the Judge's Choice Grand Finalist on the TV talent show Australia's Got Talent in 2008. Despite an offer of contract by a major label, she remains an independent artist.
Bawden grew up in Adelaide, Australia with her mother, Matilda Bawden and brother, Luke Bawden. Bawden's voice was first noticed by her mother, who said that at age 2 she would mimic sounds and at age 3, she could sing nursery rhymes better than any other child she had heard. Matilda attempted to get her singing lessons when Bawden was three years old, but teachers considered her too young. Three years later, Bawden's mother found her mimicking an Italian opera playing on radio after mistaking her for someone singing on the television. Matilda attempted to find her daughter lessons again and Bawden began her training at a local music store at six years old. She went to Thomas More College and Para Hills High School.

Harvey Goldsmith
Harvey Goldsmith CBE (born 4 May 1946 in Edgware, Middlesex) is an English performing arts promoter. He is best known as promoter of rock concerts, charity concerts, television broadcasts for the Prince's Trust and more recently the Teenage Cancer Trust shows at the Royal Albert Hall.

By 1964, he began his musical career, forming The Strollers, along his brothers Kevin on lead guıtar and Hugh on rhythm guıtar and cousin Ernie Slater on drums, in which he played bass guitar. In the rest of years of the 1960s he was in another three bands, the last of them, the second with his brother Kevin, called Friendly Persuasion, which became famous.
In June 1970, Friendly Persuasion disbanded and Jim and Kevin formed Salvation, a pop supergroup wıth Nod Kerr on drums Mario Tortolano on organ and Ian Kenny on lead guıtar. Kenny left in December 1970 replaced by Jim Brown and Kerr left in c May 1971, being replaced by Matt Caırns. They also had Martın Bırrel on organ for a whıle. James Ure (shortly afterwards named Midge Ure) on lead guıtar, Billy McIsaac on organ and Kenny Hyslop on drums joined the brothers in Mar 1972. That membership remained until Kevin left in Apr 1974, so the remaining members changed the band name to Slik. The band had numerous musical styles like glam and soft rock, and after failed promising hits and the arrival of punk rock, McGinlay left the band on March 1977, being replaced by Russell Webb, but the band lasted until September and with another name, PVC2.

Jimmy Osmond
James Arthur "Jimmy" Osmond (born April 16, 1963) is an American singer, actor, and businessman.
Jimmy Osmond was born in Canoga Park, California. He is the youngest of his siblings and an occasional member of their musical group, the Osmonds. He is the ninth and last child of George and Olive Osmond, and his siblings are Virl, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, and Marie Osmond. He is also the only Osmond of the nine not to have been born in the family's hometown of Ogden, Utah. He remains the youngest performer to have a No. 1 single in the UK Singles Chart, with "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool" in 1972. The song was credited to Little Jimmy Osmond. He, like the rest of his family, is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).
In 1985, he met Latino empresario Manuel Montoya at A&M Records and this led to his only Spanish recording entitled "Siempre Tu", with duets by the iconic Pedro Vargas, on "Otoño y Primavera", written by Luis Angel, and young Latino superstar Yuri on "Dos En Uno", written by Rodolfo Castillo and KC Porter, produced by Jose Quintana and Stephen Tavani with steller array of participants such as Albert Hammond, KC Porter, Luis Angel, Lara y Monarrez, Abraham Laboriel, Robert Lamb, Steve Deutch, Linda "Peaches" Green, Carlos Rios,Juan Carlos Calderon and Benny Faccone, recorded in the best studios in Los Angeles, Mexico City and Utah, and released on EMI-Capitol Records imprint in Mexico City. Under the guidance of his personal manager, Manuel Montoya, Jimmy toured Latin US markets, including Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela and Chile, recording was critically acclaimed and well accepted by the Latin market, and the collaboration by Pedro Vargas was Mr. Vargas' last recording before his death at the age of 82 years old.

Jocelyn Lorette Brown (born November 25, 1950, Kinston, North Carolina, sometimes credited as Jocelyn Shaw) is an American R&B and dance music singer. Although she has only one Billboard Hot 100 chart entry in her name, she has an extensive background in the music industry and is well known in the world of dance music.
Brown started out in the late 1970s singing on records by studio-created bands like Revanche, Musique, Inner Life, Disco Tex and His Sex-O-Lettes, Cerrone, Bad Girls, Chic, and Change, later singing with Salsoul Orchestra, Soiree or Dazzle in 1979.
In 1980, she appeared in Bette Midler's concert movie Divine Madness singing backup as a "Harlette" along with Ula Hedwig and Diva Gray.
In 1984, Brown released a number of singles in her own name, including "Somebody Else's Guy" (later rerecorded in 1997 by CeCe Peniston), which made it #2 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart (#75 on the Hot 100) and became the title track of her first album (a compilation of tracks from her career to date), released that same year. Although she scored another big Dance (and minor R&B) hit two years later with "Love's Gonna Get You," her solo career never really took off and she continued to sing on other people's records.

Joe McElderry
Joseph "Joe" McElderry ( /məˈkɛldəri/; born 16 June 1991) is an English singer songwriter and model. He won the sixth series of the ITV show The X Factor in 2009. He was the Pride of South Tyneside's Young Performer of the Year in 2008. McElderry studied for BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts (Advanced Performance) at Newcastle College Performance Academy and in 2010 graduated with triple distinction. He took the role of 'Danny Zuko' in Grease performed at Harton Technology College.

John Du Cann
John William Cann (5 June 1946 – 21 September 2011), later known by his stage name John Du Cann, was an English guitarist primarily known through his work in the 1970s band, Atomic Rooster. His early bands included the Wiltshire-based The Sonics (not to be confused with the 1960s US band of the same name) and London-based The Attack, which released "Hi Ho Silver Lining" a few days prior to Jeff Beck. He went on to lead a psychedelic, progressive, hard rock band called Andromeda, before being asked to join Atomic Rooster, featuring re-recorded guitar parts and vocals for their 1970 self-titled debut album, and the albums Death Walks Behind You (1970) and In Hearing of Atomic Rooster (1971).
Upon departing Atomic Rooster in 1971 he led Daemon, then Hard Stuff, both of which were based more heavily on aggressive guitar work. In 1974 he was a temporary guitarist in Thin Lizzy for a tour of Germany. Sometime following this, his manager suggested a name change for him from John Cann to John Du Cann.

John Foxx
John Foxx (born Dennis Leigh, 26 September 1948, Chorley, Lancashire, England) is an English singer, artist, photographer and teacher. He was the original lead singer of the band Ultravox before being replaced by Midge Ure, when he left to embark on a solo career in 1979. Primarily associated with electronic synthesizer music, he has also pursued a parallel career in graphic design and education.
Dennis Leigh, later and famously known as John Foxx, was born 26 September 1948, in Chorley, Lancashire. His father was a coal miner and pugilist, his mother a millworker. He attended St Mary’s Primary and St Augustine’s Secondary schools. During his youth in the 1960s he embraced the lifestyle of a mod and a hippy. He experimented with tape recorders and synthesisers while on a scholarship at the Royal College of Art in London.
His first band, formed whilst at art college in Preston, was called Woolly Fish.
Prior to 1973, he was singing and playing a 12 string guitar, and occasionally supported Stack Waddy in Manchester, from where he later moved to London in order to escape what he saw as a lack of musical stimulus.

John McGeoch
John Alexander McGeoch, (25 August 1955 – 4 March 2004), was a Scottish guitarist who played with a number of bands of the post-punk era, including Magazine, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Visage and Public Image Ltd.
He was described as "one of the most influential guitarists of his generation" and he was also considered as "the new wave Jimmy Page". In 1996, he was listed by Mojo in their "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" for his work on the Siouxsie and the Banshees song "Spellbound".
McGeoch was born and brought up in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and got his first guitar when he was twelve. He first learned to play guitar learning blues songs, including the repertoire of Hendrix and Clapton. In 1970 he played in a local band called The Slugband. In 1971 he moved to London with his family, and in 1975 he began to attend Manchester Polytechnic, where he studied art.
McGeoch had a degree in Fine Art and an ongoing interest in photography, painting and drawing. He provided some of the cover art for his future band The Armoury Show, years later.

John Sykes
John James Sykes (born 29 July 1959) is an English rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who has played with Streetfighter, Tygers of Pan Tang, John Sloman's Badlands, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, and Blue Murder. Sykes is also a successful solo artist.
Sykes joined Tygers of Pan Tang in 1980, and played guitar on the albums Spellbound (1981) and Crazy Nights (1982), as well as participating on two tracks for their 1983 release, The Cage.
In 1982, John Sykes was recruited by former Uriah Heep frontman John Sloman, for his new band Badlands, alongside his future Whitesnake bandmate Neil Murray. This was to be short-lived however, as Badlands broke up shortly after formation. No music has ever been officially released, although bootlegs of rehearsals do exist. Sykes also auditioned, unsuccessfully, for Ozzy Osbourne's band following the death of Randy Rhoads.
At the age of 23, Phil Lynott asked Sykes to join Thin Lizzy, filling the spot left by previous guitarist Snowy White. He participated in the recording of the band's final studio album Thunder and Lightning, and contributed the track "Cold Sweat".

Katherine Jenkins
Katherine Jenkins (born 29 June 1980) is a Welsh lyric mezzo-soprano. She is a classical-popular crossover singer who performs across a spectrum of operatic arias, popular songs, musical theatre and hymns.
After winning singing competitions in her youth, Jenkins studied at the Royal Academy of Music, modelled and taught voice. She came to wide public attention in 2003 when she sang at Westminster Cathedral in honour of Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee. Kenny Hyslop
Kenny Hyslop (born 14 February 1951, Helensburgh, Strathclyde, Scotland) is a Scottish drummer who played with different projects and bands who were varied in different styles, such as glam rock, 1970s teenybop, soft rock, punk, new wave, new romantic, blues and modern electronica.
Hyslop attended Hermitage School.
He joined the band Salvation with Midge Ure, which later became Slik and later PVC2. He also went on to play with The Skids, although in 1981 he joined Simple Minds. His time with this band was brief, although he contributed by recording "Promised You A Miracle" and appeared in the videos of "Sweat In Bullet" and "Love Song", from the Sons And Fascination album (which he did not appear on, but helped to promote when he replaced former drummer Brian McGee). Following his departure from Simple Minds, Hyslop formed Set The Tone with bass player Bobby Paterson.
Following the demise of Set The Tone, Hyslop formed the One O'Clock Gang which released an album on Arista Records without significant commercial success. He went on to be credited on a number of singles and albums, including some by Midge Ure. However, after becoming disillusioned with the music industry, Hyslop became an alternative DJ until leaving the UK for Canada with the blues band, Big George and The Business. After returning to the UK Hyslop started teaching drumming at Carlton Studios in Glasgow as well as producing new music published through MySpace.

Kym Marsh
Kimberley Gail "Kym" Marsh (formerly Ryder, born 13 June 1976) is an English actress, singer and former member of Hear'Say.
Marsh was born in Whiston, Merseyside and raised in Garswood, in the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, Merseyside. Malcolm McLaren
Malcolm Robert Andrew McLaren (22 January 1946 – 8 April 2010) was an English performer and impresario. He was manager of the Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls. As a solo artist, McLaren had an innovative career that helped introduce hip hop to the United Kingdom.
McLaren was born to Pete McLaren, a Scottish engineer, and Emmy Isaacs in post-World War II North London. His father left when he was two and he was raised by his maternal grandmother, Rose Corre Isaacs, the formerly wealthy daughter of Portuguese Sephardic Jewish diamond dealers, in Stoke Newington. McLaren told Andrew Denton on Enough Rope, that his grandmother always said to him, "To be bad is good... to be good is simply boring". In The Ghosts of Oxford Street he says Charles Clore (who bought Selfridges) became his mother's lover. When he was six, McLaren's mother married Martin Levi, a man working in London's rag trade. When McLaren was in his forties, a Sunday newspaper found Pete McLaren in an English "greasy spoon garage".

Marcella Detroit
Marcella Detroit (born Marcella Levy, June 21, 1952 Detroit, Michigan) is a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter. She was a member of the band Shakespears Sister, along with Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama. Detroit's soprano voice provided lead vocals on their biggest hit, "Stay," which was No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart for eight weeks in 1992.
Detroit began playing with the Bob Seger band in the early 1970s, then toured and recorded with Leon Russell and the Gap Band in early 1974, before joining Eric Clapton’s band in September 1974. While working with Clapton, she wrote several songs with him, including "Lay Down Sally." After leaving Clapton's band, she did session work for a number of artists, including Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, Alice Cooper, Stanley Clarke and Bette Midler. In 1980, she duetted with Robin Gibb on the song "Help Me!," featured on the soundtrack of the film "Times Square." The single peaked at No. 50 in the USA. In 1981, she provided the singing voice for the character Frankie in Ralph Bakshi's animated movie American Pop. She recorded her first solo album, "Marcella," under her birth name, in 1982, and wrote material for Chaka Khan, Belinda Carlisle Al Jarreau and Phillip Bailey, amongst others. In 1985 she worked for Clapton again, and performed with him at Live Aid.

Marco Mendoza
Marco Mendoza (born May 3, 1963) is an American rock musician, the bass guitarist with Thin Lizzy.
Mendoza started playing the guitar at an early age, adopting the bass guitar when he was invited to join a band that needed a player. He played in John Sykes' band Blue Murder, from 1991 until 1993. In 1994, he was recruited into a reformed lineup of Thin Lizzy, also featuring Sykes, with guitarist Scott Gorham, keyboard player Darren Wharton and drummer Brian Downey. After some preliminary one-off concerts, the band toured more consistently from 1996 until 2000, replacing the departing Downey with Tommy Aldridge and releasing the live album One Night Only.
From 2000 to 2003 Mendoza recorded and toured with Ted Nugent, and in 2004 he toured with Whitesnake, another band that once featured Sykes and Aldridge, and appeared on their DVD Live... In the Still of the Night. Also in 2004, Mendoza guested on keyboardist Derek Sherinian's solo album Mythology. However, he returned to Thin Lizzy in 2005, replacing Randy Gregg. He left the band in 2007, and subsequently toured with ex-Dokken guitarist George Lynch in his band Lynch Mob.

Mark Brzezicki
Mark Brzezicki (born 21 June 1957, Slough, Berkshire, England) is a rock drummer, who is primarily known for his work with Big Country, and was a member of the groups The Cult, Ultravox, and Procol Harum. He has also played with Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Midge Ure, Fish, The Pretenders and many others. He was also the drummer on Shine, the second and final English language album by Frida of ABBA. He uses both the traditional and matched grips.
Brzezicki is the son of a Polish war veteran and an English mother. With Tony Butler (of Big Country) he was known as 'Rhythm for Hire'. Brzezicki left Big Country in July 1989, but rejoined in 1993. Together with Butler, now on lead vocals, and guitarist Bruce Watson, Big Country started gigging again in 2007, as part of their 25th anniversary tour.
In 2004, Brzezicki helped found a new band, Casbah Club, with Bruce Foxton and Simon Townshend.
His surname is pronounced "bruh-zickee" in English and [bʐɛˈzit͡ski] in Polish. Smash Hits had a running gag in the 1980s wherein they referred to him as "Mark Unpronounceablename of Big Country". On Pete Townshend's All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes and White City: A Novel albums, there are joking references to the spelling of his last name.

Mark Nauseef
Mark Nauseef (born June 11, 1953, in Cortland, New York, United States), is a drummer and percussionist who has enjoyed a varied career, ranging from rock music during the 1970s with his time as a member of the Ian Gillan Band and, temporarily, Thin Lizzy, to a wide range of musical styles in more recent times, playing with many notable musicians from all over the world.
Nauseef briefly toured the United Kingdom in 1972 as tour member of The Velvet Underground before joining Elf, fronted by Ronnie James Dio, in early 1975, but the group disbanded shortly afterwards. Accompanied by Elf keyboardist Mickey Lee Soule, Nauseef joined ex-Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan in his new jazz fusion group, simply named the Ian Gillan Band. After three albums, Gillan broke the group up in 1978. Nauseef stood in for Thin Lizzy drummer Brian Downey for two international tours, then joined Gary Moore's short-lived band G-Force.
During the 1980s, Nauseef moved away from rock music towards a wide range of styles, including Javanese and Balinese gamelan, as well as music of Indian and Ghanaian origin. He has released several solo albums and worked with many other musicians in an array of different projects.

Meat Loaf
Michael Lee Aday (born Marvin Lee Aday; September 27, 1947), better known by his stage name, Meat Loaf, is an American hard rock musician and actor. However, he has retained iconic status and popularity in Europe, especially the UK, where he ranks 23rd for the number of weeks overall spent on the charts. He ranked 96th on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock".

Melody Thornton
Melody Thornton (born September 28, 1984) is an American vocalist, dancer, and model. She rose to stardom as a member of the successful pop group the Pussycat Dolls. The youngest member of the group, Thornton assumed the second most prominent vocal role, after lead vocalist Nicole Scherzinger, and was distinguished for her melismatic vocal runs. As of 2010, Thornton has departed the group to focus on her solo career. Thornton confirmed the title of her debut album will be Hit The Ground Running to be released sometime in 2012. Thornton's first mixtape, "P.O.Y.B.L" was released March 15, 2012.
Thornton graduated from Camelback High School in Phoenix, Arizona in 2003. She is of Mexican descent from her mother Elia, and her father Theolph Thornton of African American descent. Thornton has an older sister named Nichole Thornton. Her talent was first discovered at a Papago Elementary School talent show when she sang Mariah Carey's remake of Badfinger's "Without You".
In 2003, soprano vocalist Thornton was recruited in the Pussycat Dolls order to add vocal strength to the group. She saw the Pussycat Dolls on MTV Diaries featuring Christina Aguilera and heard they were auditioning for a new group member. Thornton went to the audition and was recruited in December 2003. For her audition, Thornton only sang and was still accepted into the group. As with the other Dolls, she is a salaried employee of Interscope Records. Her nickname for the group is "Baby Doll" because she is the youngest of the group.

Michael Buerk
Michael Duncan Buerk (born 18 February 1946) is a BBC journalist and newsreader, most famous for his reporting of the Ethiopian famine on 23 October 1984, which inspired the Band Aid charity record.
Buerk was born in Solihull, and was educated at Solihull School, an Independent school in the West Midlands where he was a member of the Combined Cadet Force and represented the school on the sports field.
Michael Buerk's hopes of a career in the armed forces were dashed when he failed an eyesight test at the selection centre. After a brief spell as a hod carrier he began his career in journalism with the Bromsgrove Messenger, South Wales Echo (where he shared a house with Sue Lawley in Cardiff), and the Daily Mail, he joined Radio Bristol in 1970 before becoming a reporter for BBC News in 1973.
He was awarded the Golden Nymph award at the Monte Carlo festival for his reports on the famine from Korem in Ethiopia, first broadcast on 24 October 1984. The footage of the famine was shot by Mohamed Amin. He later said that the broadcast was one of "the most influential pieces of television ever broadcast [prompting] a surge of generosity across the world for Ethiopia[that raised] more than $130 million". Another notable bulletin he is renowned for is being the first news reporter on the BBC News in the 2000s, making the bulletin at 0100 GMT on the 1 January 2000.

Mick Karn
Andonis Michaelides (24 July 1958 – 4 January 2011), better known as Mick Karn, was an English multi-instrumentalist musician and songwriter, who came to fame as the bassist for the art rock band Japan, from 1974 to 1982.
In June 2010, he was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer, and died in January 2011.
Karn was born into a Greek Cypriot family, in Nicosia, Cyprus, as Andonis Michaelides, which was later modified to Antony Michaelides. He had an older brother and sister. In late October 1961, the family emigrated to London, England, when Andonis was three years old. He was educated at Catford Boys' School, Catford, South East London where he failed academically. Karn remained based in London until 24 May 2004, when he moved back to Cyprus with his wife and son, remaining there for six years before moving back to London in late 2010.^{[citation needed]}
The band Japan, whose other members included David Sylvian, keyboardist Richard Barbieri and Sylvian's brother Steve Jansen as drummer, began as a group of friends, who all studied at Catford Boys' School. As youngsters they played music as a means of escape, playing Sylvian's two-chord numbers – sometimes with Karn as the front man, sometimes with Sylvian at the fore, guitarist Rob Dean joined the band later.

Midge Ure
James "Midge" Ure, OBE (born 10 October 1953, Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland) is a Scottish guitarist, singer, keyboard player, and songwriter. His stage name, Midge, is a phonetic reversal of Jim, the diminutive form of his real name.
Ure enjoyed particular success in the 1970s and 1980s in bands including Slik, Thin Lizzy, The Rich Kids, Visage, and most notably as frontman of Ultravox. Ure co-wrote and produced the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", whose reissue won an Ivor Novello Award in 2005 for Best Selling UK Single. Ure co-organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof. Ure acts as trustee for the charity, and serves as ambassador for Save the Children.
Born to a working-class family in Cambuslang, he attended Cambuslang Primary School and Rutherglen Academy in Glasgow until he was 15 years old. After leaving school Ure attended Technical College and then began to work as an engineer, training at the National Engineering Laboratory, (NEL), in nearby East Kilbride. He started playing music in a Glasgow band called Stumble (c. 1969 – c. 1971), that included a girl-singing duet, Christine and Agnes. The band's line-up included lead guitar John McMenemy, Alan Wright on harmonica, Fraser Spiers on bass, Kenny Ireland on drums, Alec Baird on vocals Gordon Appacellie.

McQueen is currently working on her first solo record. McQueen re-recorded their hit single for the blockbuster movie My Super Ex-Girlfriend. McQueen also got the chance to write with Katie Melua for McQueen's first album, but "Perfect Circle" was later recorded for Katie Melua and put on her 2007 album Pictures.
In 2007, McQueen uploaded two finished tracks "Psycho Gorgeous" and "You Are Not The One" from her debut album. These were both produced and written by herself and Paul Barry and Mark Taylor. "Psycho Gorgeous" was later remixed by "Future Freakz" and released in the summer of 2007 which peaked at Number 10 in UK the Dance Charts.^{[citation needed]} The song was played in many clubs across Europe and the UK.

Myleene Angela Quinn (née Klass; born 6 April 1978) is an English singer, pianist, media personality and occasional model. She was formerly a member of the defunct British pop band Hear'Say. Her net worth was estimated at £11 million in April 2012.
Klass was born in Gorleston, Norfolk, England to an Anglo-Austrian father and a Filipina mother. Paula Elizabeth Yates (24 April 1959– 17 September 2000) was a British television presenter and writer, best known for her work on two television programmes, The Tube and The Big Breakfast.
Born in Colwyn Bay, Wales, she was brought up in a show business family. Her mother was Elaine Smith, a former showgirl, actress and writer of erotic novels, who used the stage names Helene Thornton and Heller Toren. Until late in her life, Yates believed her father to be Jess Yates, who was known as "the Bishop" and presented the ITV religious programme Stars On Sunday. Yates and Smith were married from 1958 to 1975; Yates was 16 years older than his wife and their marriage was unconventional. Jess Yates was fired from his job in 1974 because of scandalous newspaper stories about his private life.
In an unsettled childhood, Yates attended school at Penrhos College, Ysgol Aberconwy. The Yates family ran the Deganwy Castle Hotel for a time, before moving to a large house in Rowen, Conwy. After the break-up of her parents' marriage in 1975, Yates lived mostly with her mother, including periods in Malta and Mallorca where she was a pupil at Bellver International College, before returning to Britain.

Phil Coulter (born 19 February 1942) is a musician and producer. Coulter's father, also called Phil, encouraged music in the house. He played the fiddle whilst his wife played the upright piano. The younger Coulter recalls this piano, made by Challen, as "the most important piece of furniture in the house". “I always stayed away from the fiddle, having inflicted enough pain on my family with the piano,” he laughed. Coulter confesses that he came close to abandoning the piano at an early age. “The truth is I hated the piano at first. I’d love to say I was a natural but I wasn’t. I hated playing it and I hated my music teacher. My father, who was a canny man, told me, ‘We have to scrimp and save to pay for these lessons, you might as well give them up.’ “It wasn’t long before I gravitated back to the piano, trying to play the songs that I was listening to on the radio. I always wondered what my left hand was supposed to be doing though. Phil Lynott
Philip Parris "Phil" Lynott ( /ˈlaɪnət/; 20 August 1949 – 4 January 1986) was an Irish musician who first came to prominence as a founding member, principal songwriter, and frontman of the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy.
As the leader of the band, Lynott's vocals and bass guitar were a key element in the commercial success of a string of hit songs, notably "Whiskey in the Jar", "The Boys are Back in Town", "Jailbreak" and "Waiting for an Alibi". Lynott also embarked upon a solo career, published two books of poetry, and after Thin Lizzy disbanded, he assembled and fronted the band Grand Slam, of which he was the leader until it folded in 1984. In the period before his death, he had major UK success with Gary Moore with the song “Out in the Fields”, followed by a minor hit "Nineteen".

Richard Fortus
Richard Fortus (born November 17, 1966) is a professional guitarist who is most famous for being one of the guitarists in Guns N' Roses.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Fortus cut his teeth throughout the Midwest with his band, The Eyes. The four-piece alternative band independently released "Freedom in a Cage", which was produced by David Probst. After signing with Atlantic Records, they changed their name to Pale Divine. They subsequently toured the U.S. in support of their only album, Straight to Goodbye, opening for The Psychedelic Furs.
After The Psychedelic Furs split up, Fortus formed Love Spit Love with Richard and Tim Butler. When The Furs reformed in 2000, Fortus joined the group as second guitarist and played on the live album 'Beautiful Chaos: Greatest Hits Live'.
Fortus has since left Love Spit Love and is now a member of Guns N' Roses, replacing Axl Rose's childhood friend Paul Tobias. In Guns N' Roses, Richard plays both rhythm and lead guitar. Axl is very pleased with Richard's work and has said, "He's an amazing lead player and very technically skilled. He really likes the pocket that Brain sets and the two of them click with Tommy so we finally have the real deal rhythm section, as Richard is a proven professional. Basically, Richard's the guy that we always were looking for."

Ricky Warwick
Ricky Warwick (born 11 July 1966 at Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland) is possibly best known as the frontman for the Scottish band The Almighty. Starting out as a rhythm guitarist in New Model Army, Ricky formed The Almighty in 1988. Warwick was the lead vocalist and played guitar in various formats of the band. In 1996 he left The Almighty. After forming another temporary band, Warwick returned to The Almighty until they finally disbanded in 2001. They recently announced a reformation of the band and also a UK tour.^[when?]
Warwick is good friends with singer Joe Elliott, having performed backing vocals on Def Leppard albums, whilst Elliott has returned the favour recording on Warwick's album. Warwick also served as Elliott's Best man at his wedding.
In 2006 Warwick joined the band Circus Diablo, along with Billy Duffy (of The Cult).
Ricky was formerly married to ex MTV presenter Vanessa Warwick.
He has in the past toured Europe supporting Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crowe and Keith Caputo. Ricky has also appeared on The Stiff Little Fingers Live album.

Robin Simon (born Robert Simon 12 July 1956, Halifax, West Yorkshire, England is a British guitarist who was a member of both Ultravox and Magazine. He currently is member of Ajanta Music, alongside his brother Paul.
Robert Simon and his drummer brother Paul had played in a number of bands in and around Halifax in the mid-1970s, including one which featured future Ultravox member Billy Currie. The brothers toured the UK with Limmie Funk Limited, before joining the punk rock band Ian North's Radio (later called Neo) in 1976, along with American singer and Brian Eno protégé Ian North, the band supporting Ultravox! at their London performance that year.
Simon joined Ultravox, replacing Stevie Shears, in 1978, bringing a looser, more multi-dimensional sound to the band. When he was part of that band, he changed his name to Robin Simon in the music world.
He played guitar on the album Systems Of Romance and co-produced it with the band, Conny Plank (of Kraftwerk fame) and Dave Hutchins. He also pioneered the use of multi-effects for guitar on the album to create an early Grunge/Metal type of sound using the Electro Harmonix and MXR effect pedals such as Fuzz compressor, wah-wah and flanging, tremolo and chorus. These were sent through a Music Man amplifier and cab, then to tape and also fed back to be re-recorded through a vintage Fender Champion amp. On Ultravox's hit single "Slow Motion", the song he instigated and co-wrote with the band, he added extra delay at the mixdown. Other effects such as flanging and ring modulation were added at mixdown to create occasional keyboard like guitar sounds.

Rolando Villazón
Emilio Rolando Villazón Mauleón (born February 22, 1972) is a Mexican tenor. He settled in France and in 2007 became a French citizen.
He was raised in Fuentes de Satélite, a suburban area of Greater Mexico City, Mexico. In an interview for Mexican television, Villazón told the story of how he was discovered as a tenor. He said that one day, as he was getting out of the shower in his apartment in Mexico City, somebody came knocking on his door; it was baritone Arturo Nieto, a friend of his neighbour, who had heard him singing while in the shower. He told Rolando he had an amazing voice and invited him to his music academy to develop his voice, there Rolando fell in love with opera.
He came to international attention in 1999 when he won both first prizes awarded in the Operalia international competition - both for opera and zarzuela. The same year he sang for the first time in Italy as des Grieux in Manon at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. In 2000 he appeared for the first time at the Berlin State Opera - as Macduff in Macbeth. Over the years he has presented many of his best roles there, among them José in Carmen and des Grieux in Manon.

Russell Mulcahy
Russell Mulcahy (born 23 June 1953 in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian film director. Mulcahy's work is recognizable by the use of fast cuts, tracking shots and use of glowing lights.
Russell Mulcahy's career began with making early music videos while he was working for the Seven Network in Sydney, Australia. In early 1974, former radio DJ Graham Webb launched a weekly teen-oriented TV music show which screened on Sydney's ATN-7 on Saturday mornings; this was subsequently renamed Sounds Unlimited in 1975 and later shortened simply to Sounds.
In need of material for the show, Webb approached Mulcahy (who was then employed in the Seven newsroom) and asked him to shoot film footage to accompany popular songs for which there were no purpose-made clips (e.g. Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talkin'"). Using this method, Webb and Mulcahy assembled a collection of about 25 clips for the show. The success of his early efforts encouraged Mulcahy to quit his TV job and become a freelance director, and during this period he made clips for several popular Australian acts including Stylus, Marcia Hines, Hush and AC/DC.

Rusty Egan
Rusty Egan (born 19 September 1957, London) was the drummer for the British new wave band, The Rich Kids. They were founded by former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock (bass guitarist and backing vocals, occasional lead vocals), with Steve New (guitarist and backing vocals, occasional lead vocals) and fronted by Midge Ure (guitarist, lead vocals and occasional backing vocals and keyboards player), from their inception in March 1977 to their disbanding in December 1978. He continued working with Ure, and later collaborated with The Misfits, The Skids, Shock, and Visage. However, Egan did not return to Visage for its reunion at the end of the 1990s.
He was the DJ at Blitz, the influential New Romantic nightclub in London where he worked with Steve Strange from 1979 until 1981. Whilst there, he introduced Germany's (Kraftwerk), the Japanese (Yellow Magic Orchestra) and British (Eno, Ultravox, Landscape) electronica/synthpop to the British club scene, almost single-handedly putting together the soundtrack for the New Romantic movement. Egan also owned The Cage, a New Romantic record store on London's King's Road. As the club grew in popularity, Egan began to be recognised as a central figure in London's nightlife. In 1982, he opened up the Camden Palace nightclub in London, where he continued to spread and influence the development of electronica in the UK. For a time, he switched to producing records for many of the bands he used to DJ, including Spear of Destiny, Shock, Visage, and The Senate.

Sam Blue
Sam Blue (born Simon Blewitt) (also known as Sam Blewitt) is an English hard rock singer, who has been part of the bands Emerson, Axis, L. A. Secrets, Samson, Ya Ya, Ultravox, GTS, and Burns Blue. He works in the UK and Europe as a session singer, performing and collaborating with many artists. He has also worked as an artist manager at Plan C Management with Christian Ulf-Hansen. The company's artists include the singer-songwriter, Tobias Fröberg (Sweden); the writer and producer Ken Rose (UK); and Ulf-Hansen manages Teitur (Faroe Islands).
Arguably his most famous work, credited as Sam Blewitt, was as the vocalist on The Streets' chart-topping single "Dry Your Eyes". He also entered the UK finals for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996 (as part of the duo Esseness with the song "I Never Knew") and in 1997 (as a solo artist with the song "For The Life You Don't Yet Know"), both of which involved prime-time performances on BBC One.
Blue reached the Top 40 in the UK Singles Chart in 2006, with the Phat Beach / Naughty Boy version of the Baywatch theme, "I'll Be Ready". He also sang on the Tsunami relief record for Mike Read and producer Steve Levine.

Scott Gorham
Scott Gorham (born William Scott Gorham on March 17, 1951 in Glendale, California) is an American guitarist and songwriter who rose to international recognition as one of the "twin lead guitarists" of the Irish-formed rock band, Thin Lizzy. Although not a founding member of Thin Lizzy, he is best known for his continuous membership after passing an audition and joining the band during a time when the band was on hiatus after the departure of guitarist Eric Bell. Gorham remained in the band after joining in 1974 through the band's breakup in 1984. He and guitarist Brian Robertson, both hired at the same time, marked the beginning of the band's most critically successful period, and together developed the "twin lead guitar" makeup of the band that distinguished its sound with dual backing vocals as well. Gorham was the band member with the longest membership after founders Brian Downey (drummer) and frontman and bass guitarist, Phil Lynott.
Since 1996 onward, with a different lineup, Gorham has continued to perform with Thin Lizzy on guitar and backing vocals, and, as in years past, he has contributed to the band with songwriting material written or co-written with other band members.

Scottish people
The Scottish people (Scots Gaelic: Albannaich), or Scots, are a nation and ethnic group native to Scotland. Historically they emerged from an amalgamation of the Picts and Gaels, incorporating neighbouring Britons to the south as well as invading Germanic peoples such as the Anglo-Saxons and the Norse. Later the Normans also had some influence.
In modern use, "Scottish people" or "Scots" is used to refer to anyone whose linguistic, cultural, family ancestral or genetic origins are from within Scotland. The Latin word Scotti originally applied to a particular, 5th century, Goidelic tribe that inhabited Ireland. Though sometimes considered archaic or pejorative, the term Scotch has also been used for the Scottish people, though this usage is current primarily outside Scotland.
There are people of Scottish descent in many countries other than Scotland. Emigration, influenced by factors such as the Highland and Lowland Clearances, Scottish participation in the British Empire, and latterly industrial decline and unemployment, resulted in Scottish people being found throughout the world. Large populations of Scottish people settled the new-world lands of North and South America, Australia and New Zealand. There is a Scottish presence at a particularly high rate in Canada, which has the second largest population of descended Scots ancestry, after the United States. They took with them their Scottish languages and culture.

Simon Phillip Hugh Callow, CBE (born 15 June 1949) is an English actor, musician, writer and theatre director. He is also currently a judge on Popstar to Operastar.
Callow was born in Streatham, London, England, UK, the son of Yvonne Mary (née Guise), a secretary, and Neil Francis Callow, a businessman. His father was of English and French descent and his mother was of Danish and German ancestry. He was brought up Roman Catholic. Callow attended the London Oratory School and then went on to study at Queen's University Belfast ('Queen's') in Northern Ireland before giving up his degree course to go into acting at the Drama Centre London.^{[citation needed]}
Callow's immersion in the theatre began after he wrote a fan letter to Sir Laurence Olivier, the Artistic Director of the National Theatre, and received a response suggesting he join their box office staff. It was while watching actors rehearse that he realised he wanted to act.
Callow made his stage debut in 1973, appearing in The Thrie Estates at the Assembly Rooms Theatre, Edinburgh. In the early 1970s he joined the Gay Sweatshop theatre company and performed in Martin Sherman's critically acclaimed Passing By. In 1977 he took various parts in the Joint Stock Theatre Company's production of Epsom Downs and in 1979 he starred in Snoo Wilson's The Soul of the White Ant at the Soho Poly.

Snowy White
Snowy White (born Terence Charles White, 3 March 1948, Barnstaple, Devon) is an English guitarist, known for having played with Thin Lizzy (permanent member from 1980 to 1982) and with Pink Floyd (as a back-up player; he was first invited to tour with the band through Europe and the United States, in 1977, and during The Wall shows in 1980) and, more recently, for Roger Waters' band. He is also known for his 1983 solo effort "Bird of Paradise", which became a UK Singles Chart Top 10 hit single.
White grew up on the Isle of Wight, completely self-taught as a guitarist, having received his first guitar from his parents at the age of ten. He moved to Stockholm in 1965 at the age of seventeen, spending more than a year there playing in a trio called The Train. In 1968 he purchased his signature guitar, the Gibson Les Paul Goldtop. By 1970 he made his way to London and found work as a session player and as a member of Heavy Heart. During this time he met Peter Green and the two began a lifelong friendship (White later appeared on Green's album In the Skies).

Steve Harley
Steve Harley (born Stephen Malcolm Ronald Nice, 27 February 1951,Deptford, London, England) is an English singer and songwriter, best known for his work with the 1970s rock group Cockney Rebel, with whom he still occasionally tours (albeit with many personnel changes through the years).
As a child, Harley suffered from polio, spending four years in hospital up to the age of 16. It was in hospital that he first heard Bob Dylan, inspiring him to a career of words and music. At the age of 10, he received a guitar from his parents, and he played violin with the school orchestra. He left the Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College without completing his advanced level exams and took an A-level in English in his mid-30s.
In 1968, at the age of 17, Harley began work as an accountant with the Daily Express, from which he progressed to become a reporter in a number of local Essex newspapers for a duration of three years. Later, he returned to London to work for the East London Advertiser.
Harley started out playing in bars and clubs in the early 1970s, mainly at folk venues on open-mike nights. He also busked around London on the Underground and in Portobello Road. While auditioning for folk band Odin in 1971, he met violinist John Crocker, with whom he formed Cockney Rebel in late 1972.

Stephen Lillywhite, CBE (born 1955) is an English Grammy Award winning record producer. Since he began his career in 1977, Lillywhite has been credited for working on over 500 records and has collaborated with a variety of musicians including XTC, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Simple Minds, Chris Cornell, The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, U2, Peter Gabriel, Morrissey, The Psychedelic Furs, The Pogues, Beady Eye, Blue October and Phish.
Lillywhite entered the music industry in 1972, when he worked as a tape operator for Polygram. He produced a demo recording for Ultravox, which led to them being offered a recording contract with Island Records. Lillywhite soon joined Island as a staff producer, where he worked with many of the leading new wave musicians. His first commercial success was with Siouxsie and the Banshees in August 1978, after producing their first single, "Hong Kong Garden". He also produced "Ku Klux Klan" - the first single that Steel Pulse released under Island Records in 1978.

Steve New (born Stephen Charles New 16 May 1960 – 24 May 2010) was an English guitarist and singer, known for his work with a number of punk and new wave bands in the late 1970s and early 1980s including Rich Kids with former Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock. He came to attention with his connections with the city's punk scene at the age of 15 after being asked to audition for the Sex Pistols as a second guitarist alongside Steve Jones When Pistols' bass player Glen Matlock was ousted from the band, he invited New to join his new group Rich Kids alongside Rusty Egan and former Slik singer Midge Ure. He later played with Sid Vicious, Public Image Ltd, Iggy Pop, Chrissie Hynde, Kim Fowley, and a solo Glen Matlock whose last solo album "Born Running" was decicated to New and features his last recorded work.

Steve Strange
Steve Strange (born Steven John Harrington, 28 May 1959), is a Welsh pop singer, best known as the lead singer and frontman of the 1980s pop group Visage. Since the late 1970s he has also been a prominent nightclub host and promoter.
Harrington was born in Newbridge, Caerphilly, Wales, but his grandfather moved with his family to Aldershot, Hampshire, where his father was serving in the British Army as a paratrooper. The family moved back to Wales and lived in Rhyl on the north coast, where his parents bought a large guest house and opened sea front cafes. They then divorced and he moved with his mother back to Newbridge in South Wales where he attended Newbridge Grammar School. It merged with a secondary school to form Newbridge Comprehensive School a year after he arrived there, and he subsequently lost interest in all subjects but arts.
After seeing a Sex Pistols concert at the Stowaway Club in Newport in 1976, Harrington befriended the bass player Glen Matlock. He then arranged gigs for punk bands in his home town and befriended Jean-Jacques Burnel of the Stranglers before leaving for London where he worked for Malcolm McLaren and formed a punk band called The Moors Murderers with Soo Catwoman. Further members included future Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde, future Psychedelic Furs drummer Vince Ely, future Clash drummer Nicky Headon and the Kid (who was formerly in Adam and the Ants, as Mark Ryan). They recorded a song called "Free Hindley". After a number of gigs, the band split up around early 1978.

Stevie Shears
Stevie Shears (born 1954/1955) is a musician known for playing in english rock bands Tiger Lily and Ultravox! (later Ultravox), alongside electronic musician John Foxx.
Working in a paint factory and playing in different bands in Dagenham, Essex, he made contact with John Foxx and formed Tiger Lily in 1973 (together with bassist Chris Cross). Later, Tiger Lily changed its name to Ultravox! (later known simply as Ultravox). Between February and March 1978, after releasing with this band the Ultravox! (early 1977) and Ha! Ha! Ha! (1977) albums, he was dropped by his bandmates, who saw him as a limiting factor for the progress of the band, being replaced by Robin Simon.
After Ultravox!, Shears formed a band with his friend Ice,real name Roland Oxland, bassist of Gloria Mundi . Gloria Mundi and Ultravox! were friends from the UK live music scene. Gloria Mundi featured Eddie Maelov and Sunshine Patterson who, as Eddie & Sunshine, would support Ultravox on their 1981 Rage In Eden tour. Gloria Mundi's saxophonist CC also played on Hiroshima Mon Amour from Ultravox's second album Ha! Ha! Ha! (1977). Later Shears and Jason Guy formed a duo called New Men. This was short lived as Shears left to join Cowboys International, in early 1980, replacing Adam Ant guitarist Marco Pirroni. In 1981 and with Cowboys International dissolved, he collaborated with the band's singer, Ken Lockie, on his solo album, "The Possible".

Tom Rush
Tom Rush (born February 8, 1941) is an American folk and blues singer, songwriter, musician and recording artist.
Rush was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. His father was a teacher at St. Paul's School, in Concord, New Hampshire. Tom began performing in 1961 while studying at Harvard University after graduating from the Groton School. He majored in English literature. Many of his early recordings are versions of Lowland Scots and Appalachian folk songs. He regularly performed at the Club 47 coffeehouse (now called Club Passim) in Cambridge, the Unicorn in Boston and The Main Point in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Rush is credited by Rolling Stone magazine with ushering in the era of the singer/songwriter. In addition to performing his own compositions, he covered songs by Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Murray McLauchlan, David Wiffen and William Hawkins, helping them to gain recognition early in their careers.
Bob Dylan is reputed to be the "Roosevelt Gook" credited as playing piano on the 1966 Elektra album Take A Little Walk With Me, though many believe it was Al Kooper under another name to collect a second musician's fee.

Tommy Aldridge
Tommy Aldridge (born August 15, 1950 in Nashville, TN) is a veteran heavy metal and hard rock drummer. Aldridge is noted for his work with numerous bands and vocalists, most notable being Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers Band, Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Moore, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent and Thin Lizzy.
Self taught, Aldridge was inspired by Cream, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin and drummers Joe Morello and John Bonham. Throughout his career Aldridge has been regarded as a double bass drumming pioneer in heavy metal music.
In the 1970s, Aldridge joined up and coming rockers Black Oak Arkansas and recorded nine albums with them between 1972 and 1976. He also undertook long tours around the US with the band.
He spent 1978 to 1981 signed with Canadian blues-rock guitarist Pat Travers Band, and recorded five albums with him. Aldridge was then offered a place in Ozzy Osbourne's band, which he accepted because of the talent of Randy Rhoads. Tommy said it was Randy who pushed him to be the best he could be.^{[citation needed]} Although Aldridge is credited in the liner notes and pictured on the inner sleeve of Diary Of A Madman, Lee Kerslake performed all the drum parts on the original release. Playing alongside Ozzy and guitarist Randy Rhoads, the line up is preserved on 1987's Tribute. After Rhoads' death the band continued to record, producing a live album in 1982 called Speak Of The Devil and a studio album, Bark at the Moon in 1983, after which Aldridge was fired by Sharon Osbourne. Drummer Carmine Appice was brought in to tour for this release. During this tour, due to some personal differences within the band, Carmine was let go and Tommy returned to work with Ozzy for the final leg of the Bark At The Moon tour. Tommy finished the touring cycle with Ozzy with a performance at Brazil's Rock in Rio music festival in early 1985, which also featured bands such as Queen, Scorpions and Whitesnake.

Trevor Charles Horn, CBE (born 15 July 1949) is an English pop music record producer, songwriter, musician and singer. He was born in Houghton-le-Spring in northeastern England.
Horn has produced commercially successful songs and albums for numerous British and international artists. He won a Grammy Award for producing "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal. As a musician, he has had chart success with the bands The Buggles, Yes and Art of Noise. He also owns a significant stake in the recording company ZTT Records, Sarm Studios and a music publishing company, Perfect Songs. The three are combined under the corporate umbrella of SPZ.
Trevor Horn grew up in Houghton-le-Spring, which is part of the municipality of Sunderland, England. His parents, John and Elizabeth, were from Hetton-le-Hole, which is near Sunderland. His father worked as an engineer, with technology related to milk production as his specialty. Trevor has two sisters, Janet and Marjorie, and a brother, Ken. Both sisters eventually emigrated to Canada.

Troy Donockley
Troy Donockley (born 30 May 1964) is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of uillean pipes.
Donockley was born in Workington, Cumbria; his parents were members of a band called Travelling Country. At the age of 16 Troy joined them, playing at many venues in West Cumbria. His father's record collection was broad and gave his son a love of classical, rock, country as well as traditional music. He is a multi-instrumentalist and a master of the uilleann pipes. His ambition as a teenager was to travel the world as a musician, but hated "empty pop created by cynical twerps".^{[citation needed]} The strangeness of the sound of the uilleann pipes enabled him to become a session musician with prog-rockers The Enid in 1987 on their album The Seed and the Sower.
In 1987 he formed Celtic Rock band 'You Slosh, recording Glorious Racket with them in 1989. In the following year he recorded as a session musician with celtic-folk band Iona. This was at the very beginning of the boom in celtic-folk bands, and both ventures were very successful. Donockley recorded one more album with You Slosh in 1991 plus nine more albums with Iona. He became an official member of the group in 1995 and left the band in 2009. Máire Brennan, a member of the best-known celtic-folk group, Clannad, called on Donockley to be a session musician on Two Horizons. Kathryn Tickell plays the Northumbrian smallpipes: Donockley made Debateable Lands with her in 1999, contrasting two types of pipes.

Vanessa Karen White (born 30 October 1989) is an English pop singer and songwriter. She rose to fame in 2008 as a member of English-Irish girl group The Saturdays. She is the youngest member of the band.
White was born in Yeovil, Somerset. Attracted to performing from a young age she attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School on Saturdays before being offered a full time place and moving to Stratford, London with her family when she was five. Having already been signed as a solo artist White auditioned for, and was accepted as, a member of a newly-formed girl group in 2007. She gelled quickly with the four other members who now refer to her as "our Christina Aguilera" due to her extensive vocal range. Initially, White and band member Una Healy had the strongest relationship, as they discovered that they were very alike. However, she has grown to love the other members all the same. She has also received comparison to American singers Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey.

Vivian Patrick Campbell (born 25 August 1962) is a Northern Irish rock guitarist who is a member of Def Leppard and was a member of Thin Lizzy from May 2010 to November 2011. Sweet Savage was a NWOBHM band that Campbell joined when he was 15. The band members in Sweet Savage included Campbell on guitar, Trev Fleming on guitar, David Bates on drums and Ray Haller on bass and vocals. The band influenced Metallica, who covered the song "Killing Time" on their Garage Inc. covers album. In 1981 they released an e.p. consisting of four BBC radio sessions and their first single "Take No Prisoners". "Take No Prisoners" included the song "Killing Time". Much later in the late 90's after Metallica covered "Killing Time", there was interest in Sweet Savage and they released an album without him. Campbell left Sweet Savage in early 1983 to join Dio after Jake E. Lee original Dio guitarist was offered Randy Rhoads spot as Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist on December 1982, when Ronnie James Dio was forming his own band. Vivian Campbell later guested on Sweet Savage's cover of the Thin Lizzy song "Whiskey In The Jar".

Warren Cann
Warren Reginald Cann (born 20 May 1950, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) is a drummer and drum machine programmer, best known as a member of the British New Wave band Ultravox.
The son of two British immigrants, he began to be interested in electronics while he was at school. After playing in bands in Vancouver and Los Angeles, he came to England in 1972, where he found a more creative environment.
He established himself in London, where formed his first band, along Huw Lloyd-Langton, future Hawkwind member, on guitar and Rob Rawlins, later in Overnight Angels, on bass.
Shortly thereafter, Cann contacted Dennis Leigh, who invited Cann to join his fledgling band Tiger Lily with bassist Chris Cross and guitarist Stevie Shears. In 1976, Tiger Lily changed its name to Ultravox!, and later in 1978 to Ultravox. Frontman Leigh went by the stage name "John Foxx" beginning in 1977.
Cann played on three experimental but commercially unsuccessful (initially) Ultravox albums released by Island Records, Ultravox! (1977), Ha! Ha! Ha! (1977) and Systems of Romance (1978). Leigh left Ultravox in 1979, after a tour in United States and Canada. Ultravox replaced John Foxx with singer/guitarist Midge Ure in 1979.

James "Midge" Ure, OBE (born 10 October 1953, Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland) is a Scottish guitarist, singer, keyboard player, and songwriter. His stage name, Midge, is a phonetic reversal of Jim, the diminutive form of his real name.

Ure enjoyed particular success in the 1970s and 1980s in bands including Slik, Thin Lizzy, The Rich Kids, Visage, and most notably as frontman of Ultravox. Ure co-wrote and produced the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", whose reissue won an Ivor Novello Award in 2005 for Best Selling UK Single.^[1] Ure co-organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof. Ure acts as trustee for the charity, and serves as ambassador for Save the Children.

Early years [link]

Born to a working-class family in Cambuslang, he attended Cambuslang Primary School and Rutherglen Academy in Glasgow until he was 15 years old. After leaving school Ure attended Technical College and then began to work as an engineer, training at the National Engineering Laboratory, (NEL), in nearby East Kilbride. He started playing music in a Glasgow band called Stumble (c. 1969 – c. 1971), that included a girl-singing duet, Christine and Agnes. The band's line-up included lead guitar John McMenemy, Alan Wright on harmonica, Fraser Spiers on bass, Kenny Ireland on drums, Alec Baird on vocals Gordon Appacellie.

Salvation, Slik and PVC2 [link]

Ure joined Salvation as a guitarist in 1972. The band had been formed in Glasgow in June 1970 by the brothers Kevin (vocals) and Jim McGinlay (bass guitar). Jim McGinlay decided to turn Ure's name backwards to "Midge" to avoid any confusion caused by two members of the band having the same first name. Ure has since presented himself in the music scene as Midge Ure.^[2] The band performed covers as house band in the Glasgow discothèque Clouds, the venue for major bands playing on tour in the city. The band also comprised Billy McIsaac on keyboards and Kenny Hyslop on drums.

In April 1974, Kevin McGinlay left to pursue a solo career,^[2] so Ure assumed vocals in addition to his guitar duties. In November 1974 the band changed their name to Slik, with Bay City Rollers writers Bill Martin and Phil Coulter providing songs. In 1975 Ure turned down an offer to be the lead singer of the Sex Pistols, stating that he felt at the time that Malcolm McLaren had "his priorities completely wrong!", a position he later reversed.^[3]^[4]

Although Slik were rising in popularity in early 1976, achieving a number one single in February with "Forever And Ever", the band were soon to be out of step with the rising punk rock scene. In early 1977 Jim McGinlay decided to quit the band, being replaced by Russell Webb.

Slik terminated their contract with Martin and Coulter, realising their boy-band image was hindering their chances of success. They changed their name to PVC2 and adopted a more punkish style. Ure's only release with the band under this name was the "Put You In The Picture" single.

The Rich Kids [link]

By October 1977 Ure had left PVC2 to join former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock in The Rich Kids. Ure moved to London and soon found himself immersed in a scene he had previously only read about in the pages of the NME.^[3] Musical tensions within the band led to Ure's departure. Having acquired a synthesiser, Ure, alongside band-mate Rusty Egan, wanted to integrate the new instrument into the band's sound. With Matlock and Steve New preferring to remain with the traditional guitars and drums approach, the band split. The Rich Kids were renowned for their high-octane energetic live shows, including a show at the London College of Printing. In January 2010, The Rich Kids reformed for one night only, for a benefit concert for Steve New who was fighting terminal cancer (and died on 24 May 2010). Although it had been over 30 years since they played together, the press reports praised the gig, with energetic performances of "Ghosts of Princes In Towers, and "Hung on You". The Rich Kids were joined on stage by Mick Jones and Gary Kemp. Ure also played an acoustic set of Ultravox and Visage songs.

Visage [link]

In 1978, Egan and Ure formed Visage with lead vocalist Steve Strange, and utilised their new synthesiser when they recorded a cover of the Zager & Evans classic "In The Year 2525" for promotional purposes. The line-up was expanded in 1979 with the addition of Magazine members Dave Formula, John McGeoch and Barry Adamson, and Ultravox keyboardist Billy Currie, and the band signed briefly to Radar Records for the release of their first single "Tar". Egan and Ure also formed the short-lived band The Misfits, whose career was curtailed by an approach from Thin Lizzy. Though Visage's first single was unsuccessful, they signed with Polydor Records in 1980, and their second single, "Fade to Grey", became a hit.

Thin Lizzy [link]

Ure already knew Thin Lizzy singer Phil Lynott. In early 1979, Ure received co-writing credit for "Get Out Of Here" on the album Black Rose. In July 1979, Ure stepped in to help Thin Lizzy complete a US tour following guitarist Gary Moore's abrupt departure. Ure contributed guitar parts to "Things Ain’t Working Out" and "Dublin" for the 1979 Thin Lizzy remix compilation The Continuing Saga of the Ageing Orphans. Thin Lizzy then toured America and Japan. In 1980, during the second part of this tour, Ure switched to keyboards, replaced by Snowy White as guitarist. At the end of the tour Ure decided to leave Thin Lizzy. Ure felt his energies were better committed to another group: Ultravox. Ure continued to collaborate with Lynott, providing the chorus to "Chinatown" and co-writing Lynott's biggest solo hit, "Yellow Pearl".

Ultravox [link]

1979 had seen Ure and Billy Currie form a close bond playing together in Visage. The pair decided to resurrect Currie's former group, the synthpop band Ultravox. The group had been presumed defunct since guitarist Robin Simon quit and lead singer John Foxx had left to pursue a solo career. In April Ure joined the band as singer and guitarist to complete the "classic" Ultravox lineup of Currie (keyboards, violin), Chris Cross (bass) and Warren Cann (drums). Although Ure had spent the latter half of 1979 on tour with Thin Lizzy, Ultravox found time late in the year to tour in the USA. During this time the band wrote a number of songs which were included on their first album with Ure.

The album, Vienna, was recorded in 1980. Although it was the band's fourth album, it was the first one to chart and was only a minor success upon first release. However, when the title track "Vienna" was released as a single in early 1981, it became a huge hit and spent four weeks at #2 in the UK singles chart and was the 5th highest selling single in the UK that year. The album itself re-entered the album chart and peaked at #3. Inspired by the 1949 film The Third Man, the promo video for "Vienna" was directed by Russell Mulcahy,^[5] utilising cinematic techniques and became quite influential. In an interview, Ure recalled the way that "music video changed after that. All these things that became video clichés – cropping the top and bottom off the screen, shooting on film as opposed to videotape, making it look like a movie ... we were quite a groundbreaking act for a while."^[3] The same year that Ultravox released the Vienna album, Visage also released their debut album which made the UK Top 20 and featured the hit single "Fade to Grey" (co-written by Ure and Currie with Chris Payne), also influential in the direction of the New Romantic electropop music scene.^[6]

In 1981, Ultravox recorded their second album with Ure as frontman, Rage in Eden, which was also a Top 5 hit in the UK. After its release, Ure and Currie reconvened with Visage to record the band's second album, The Anvil. Released in early 1982, it was a Top 10 hit, but Ure left the band soon after its release, citing creative differences with frontman Steve Strange. The same year saw Ultravox record and release their third album with Ure, Quartet, with production by Beatles' producer George Martin. The album became their third Top 10 hit and featured four Top 20 singles. This period also saw Ure work as a producer for other artists, amongst them Steve Harley, The Skids and Strasse, and in 1982 he also released his first solo single, a cover of the 1968 Tom Rush song "No Regrets" (based on the 1975 hit cover version by The Walker Brothers), which made the UK Top 10.

After the live album Monument in 1983, Ultravox released their fourth studio album with Ure, Lament, in 1984. The album was another Top 10 success and contained the Top 3 hit "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes". The band released their first "greatest hits" album at the end of the year, featuring all the singles from 1980 onwards. The album peaked at no.2 in the UK and was later certified triple platinum.

After Ure's successful debut solo album in 1985, the fifth and final Ultravox album with Ure, U-Vox, was released in 1986. Although another Top 10 hit, the album (and singles) fared less well than their earlier releases.

In 2009 Ure and the other members reformed Ultravox for the Return to Eden tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Vienna album, followed up the next year with a second round of the tour. In late 2010 Ultravox started working on their sixth album fronted by Ure.

Band Aid [link]

In 1984, Ure co-wrote the Band Aid hit, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" with Bob Geldof. Ure was rehearsing with Ultravox for an episode of the Channel 4 music show The Tube when host Paula Yates handed him the phone. It was her then husband, Geldof, who proceeded, recalls Ure, "to rant on about the Michael Buerk BBC news report on the Ethiopian famine." Geldof provided the initial lyrics, with Ure working the musical theme on a small keyboard in his kitchen. The second half was composed by Ure, with the bridging chorus only assembled in the studio when the artists had gathered. Ure has described the song as one of the worst he has ever written, commenting that "the momentum the artists gave it in the recording studio is what made it".^[7]

At the studio recording, Ure also took on the production duties for the song. Although Trevor Horn had been approached to fulfill this role, he needed more time to fulfill his obligations than was available.^[8] Ure stepped into the breach, with Horn providing his studio, remixing the track and producing the 12" version. Ure and Geldof jointly set up the Band Aid Trust, and he remains active as a Band Aid Trustee to this day. He also co-organised the Live Aid concert of 1985 along with Geldof and Harvey Goldsmith. Geldof and Ure have been honoured with two Ivor Novello awards for writing the song.^[9]

Solo career [link]

After working on the Band Aid project and during a hiatus from Ultravox, Ure pursued a solo career in 1985. The single, "If I Was", was a UK number one single, and his debut album, The Gift, reached #2. After returning to Ultravox for what would be their final album together, the band effectively disbanded in 1987 and Ure concentrated solely on his solo career but with less success. The albums Answers to Nothing (1988) and Pure (1991) failed to make the UK top 20. If I Was, a career retrospective, was released in 1993, while in 1998 the single "Breathe" was a hit in Europe, boosted by its use in a Swatch TV ad campaign. The video was directed by Dani Jacobs.^[10]

In 2005, Ure organised Live 8 concerts with Bob Geldof with the aim of pressing G8 leaders into taking action to end world poverty. Later that year he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to music and charity. He has also received five honorary degrees in recent years. He was made an Honorary Doctor of Arts in 2005 by the University of Abertay Dundee for his artistic and charity work over the past 30 years.^[11] He was made a Doctor of Music by University of Edinburgh in 2006.^[12] In 2007, he received from the University of Paisley his third honorary doctorate, for his contribution to Scottish culture and charity work.^[13] In 2008, Glasgow Caledonian University awarded him his fourth honorary doctorate, for his musical and humanitarian achievements.^[14] He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Bath in December 2010.

Ure is an Ambassador for Save the Children and in recent years he has gone back to Ethiopia and visited Sierra Leone in that capacity.

Ure continues to perform his own songs, along with popular Ultravox songs, in concerts both solo, acoustic and with a band. Ultravox briefly reformed in 2009 and undertook a successful tour (as well as appearing at the Isle of Wight 2009 Festival) to celebrate, in their own words, the "anniversary of their classic line-up". Ure stated in a BBC interview in April 2009, "we are not trying to get our youth back, nor the hair that's fallen off already".^[15]^[16] Further concerts in the UK and Europe were scheduled in 2010.

The sixteen year old Australian-born classical-crossover soprano Grace Bawden, released a version of "Dear God" which she recorded at age 14, and released in November 2008 on her self-titled EP. The track was then included on her Gifts of Grace debut album released in September 2009.^[17] One reviewer wrote: "'Dear God', an eighties pop song by Ultravox's Midge Ure is another bizarre choice, and the song is given a just as bizarre arrangement that sounds completely different from the original, but it works".^[18]

Ure resides in the village of Box, Wiltshire near Bath. Ure has been married twice: to actress and writer Annabel Giles (with whom he has one daughter, Molly) and to Sheridan Forbes (with whom he has three daughters, Kitty, Ruby and Flossie). Ure's two main passions are music and cooking. He was able to indulge the second of these in the 2007 Celebrity MasterChef series, winning his heat and progressing to the final on 15 June, alongside Nadia Sawalha and Craig Revel Horwood. Although all three competitors greatly impressed the judges, the trophy was won by Sawalha.

Ure is a recovering alcoholic, something he openly admits and discusses in his autobiography If I Was.

He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Bath in December 2010.
