Musée du Louvre, Paris [Inside]
The Musée du Louvre or officially Grand Louvre - in English the Louvre Museum or simply the Louvre - is one of the world's largest museums, the most visited art museum in the world and a historic monument. It is a central landmark of Paris and located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the 1st arrondissement (district). Nearly 35000 objects from prehistory to the 19th century are exhibited over an area of 60600 square metres (652300 square feet). The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) which began as a fortress built in the late 12th century under Philip II. Remnants of the fortress are still visible. The building was extended many times to form the present Louvre Palace. In 1682, Louis XIV chose the Palace of Versailles for his household, leaving the Louvre primarily as a place to display the royal collection, including, from 1692, a collection of antique sculpture.

Louvre Museum. The Louvre began as a fortress in 1190 and later became a royal residence. In 1793, it was transformed into a museum and was recently modernized and expanded. The "Grande Pyramide" designed by IM Pei, which actually serves as a skylight to the entrance, is only one of the billion-dollar additions. The Louvre's collection of the world's art spans over 3000 years.

The Académie remained at the Louvre for 100 years.[5] During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum, to display the nation's masterpieces. The museum opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings, the majority of the works being royal and confiscated church property. Because of structural ...

CivilizationV - The Louvre
"Every genuine work of art has as much reason for being as the earth and the sun." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson The Louvre is a large and incredibly ornate palace in Paris, France. Originally constructed in the 15th century on the site of an even older castle, for the next two and a half centuries the Louvre served as the home to many of France's kings, most of whom added to the already-huge structure. During the 17th century Kings Louis XIII and Louis XIV and their advisors Cardinals Richelieu and Mazarin began acquiring an extensive art collection which was kept at the Louvre. In 1682 the Royal court moved to Versailles, and in 1783 the Revolutionary government opened the palace to the public. It has remained a public museum ever since. Not surprisingly, it is considered to have the finest collection of pre-modern French paintings in the world. - Civilopedia

Paris on Foot #6 (of 10): Luxembourg Palace & Garden and the Paroisse Saint-Sulpice
And we continue with our latest travel vlog! This time, we went to Paris, France, and we spent 4 days walking around the French capital. On this sixth video, after walking by the river Seine and the Louvre Museum, the Jardin du Carrousel (Jardin des Tuileries) until we get to the Napoleon's Arc de Triomphe, we wake up to go to the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle, the Jardin des Plantes and the Luxembourg Palace and garden & Paroisse Saint-Sulpice. Paris is the capital and largest city in France, situated on the river Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region (or Paris Region, French: Région parisienne). The city of Paris, within its administrative limits largely unchanged since 1860, has an estimated population of 2211297 (January 2008), but the Paris metropolitan area has a population of 11899544 (January 2008), and is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe. Paris was the largest city in the Western world for about 1000 years, prior to the 19th century, and the largest in the entire world between the 16th and 19th centuries. Paris is today one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and its influences in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. In 2009 and 2010 Paris was ranked among the three most important and influential cities in the world, among the first three "European cities of the future ...

The Louvre and the Tuileries
The Louvre and the Tuileries are the starting points of the grand Historical Axis. This is "royal Paris", a district of the French capital that no visitor in Paris should miss. Palace of the Kings and Queens of France, the Louvre has now become one of the world's most visited museums. The gardens of the Tuileries provide a restful promenade right in the center of Paris. This magnificent vista runs through some of Paris' most celebrated monuments and squares: the Glass Pyramid of the Louvre in the Cour Napoléon, the Arc du Carrousel, the former Palace of the Tuileries destroyed in the 19th Century, and the gardens of the Tuileries. The great perspective starts at the Louvre, immediately beyond the Church of St Germain l'Auxerrois, a Catholic Church in front of the entrance to the Louvre. This Renaissance palace was originally built to defend Paris against invaders, but was turned into a museum way back around 1793 and is now known throughout the world as 'the' museum to visit while on holiday in Paris, France. The crab-shaped Palace was the main residence of the kings of France until 1682, when Louis XIV, the 'Sun King', moved his court to Versailles. It currently houses one of the world's most largest museums (and the most visited in the world) in a complex that is known as the "Grand Louvre". A central landmark of Paris, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the 1st arrondissement (district). Nearly 35000 objects from prehistory to the 19th century are ...
