Banstead

Banstead is a town in the borough of Reigate and Banstead in the county of Surrey, England, on the border with Greater London. It lies 13 miles (21 km) south of London, 3 miles (5 km) south of Sutton, 5 miles (8 km) west of Croydon and 8.5 miles (14 km) south-east of the county town of Kingston-Upon-Thames. Banstead is on the North Downs and is protected by the Metropolitan Green Belt; Banstead Downs is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Although Banstead is a town, it is frequently referred to and known as "Banstead Village". Nearby towns include Epsom and Worcester Park to the west, Reigate to the south and Leatherhead to the west.
At the 2001 Census the population of Banstead Village ward was 8,510, although the area covered by the former Banstead Urban District had 46,280 people.
Banstead appears as a destination in the 1895 novel The Time Machine by H. G. Wells and also gains a brief mention in another of his novels, The War of the Worlds.

The country is divided into 20 counties and the city of Zagreb. Croatia covers 56,594 square kilometres (21,851 square miles) and has diverse, mostly continental and Mediterranean climates. Croatia's Adriatic Sea coast contains more than a thousand islands. The country's population is 4.29 million, most of whom are Croats, with the most common religious denomination being Roman Catholicism.
In the early 7th century the Croats arrived in area of present-day Croatia. They organised the state into two dukedoms by the 9th century. Tomislav became the first king by 925 AD, elevating Croatia to the status of a kingdom. The Kingdom of Croatia retained its sovereignty for nearly two centuries, reaching its peak during the rule of Kings Peter Krešimir IV and Dmitar Zvonimir. Croatia entered a personal union with Hungary in 1102. In 1527, faced with Ottoman conquest the Croatian Parliament elected Ferdinand I of the House of Habsburg to the Croatian throne. In 1918, after World War I, Croatia was included in the short-lived State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs that declared independence from Austria–Hungary and co-founded the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. A Croatian state briefly existed during World War II as a fascist puppet state. After the war, Croatia became a founding member and a federal constituent of the Second Yugoslavia, a socialist state. In June 1991, Croatia declared independence, which came into effect on 8 October of the same year. The Croatian War of Independence was fought successfully during the four years following the declaration.

Dublin

English Channel
The English Channel (French: la Manche, Breton: Mor Breizh, Cornish: Mor Bretannek), often referred to simply as the Channel, is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that separates southern England from northern France, and joins the North Sea to the Atlantic. It is about 560 km (350 mi) long and varies in width from 240 km (150 mi) at its widest to 34 km (21 mi) in the Strait of Dover. It is the smallest of the shallow seas around the continental shelf of Europe, covering an area of some 75,000 km2 (29,000 sq mi).

On the East. The Southwestern limit of the North Sea.
The IHO defines the southwestern limit of the North Sea as "a line joining the Walde Lighthouse (France, 1°55'E) and Leathercoat Point (England, 51°10'N)". The Walde Lighthouse is 6 km east of Calais (50°59′06″N 1°55′00″E / 50.985°N 1.9166667°E / 50.985; 1.9166667), and Leathercoat Point is at the north end of St Margaret's Bay, Kent (51°10′00″N 1°24′00″E / 51.1666667°N 1.4°E / 51.1666667; 1.4).

Gate Theatre
The Gate Theatre, in Dublin, was founded in 1928 by Hilton Edwards and Micheál Mac Liammóir, initially using the Abbey Theatre's Peacock studio theatre space to stage important works by European and American dramatists. The theatre later moved to 1 Cavendish Row (part of the Rotunda Hospital complex) where leading Irish architect Michael Scott undertook the revisions necessary to the room to convert it into a theatre. The theatre's current artistic director is Michael Colgan.
Edwards/McLiammoir Productions presented European plays in sharp contrast to the country kitchen fare available at the Abbey Theatre bringing the Irish Premieres of Ibsen and other such dramatists to the Irish public.
Orson Welles, James Mason and Michael Gambon started their acting careers at The Gate. In December 1983 the directorship of the Gate was handed to Michael Colgan. In 1991 the Gate became the first theatre in history to launch a full retrospective of the nineteen stage plays of Samuel Beckett. This festival was repeated at the Barbican Centre in London and New York's Lincoln Center.

Isle Of Wight
The Isle of Wight is a county and the largest island of England, located in the English Channel, on average about 2–5 miles (3–7 km) off the south coast of the county of Hampshire, separated from the mainland by a strait called the Solent. The Island has many resorts which have been holiday destinations since Victorian times.
The Island has a rich history, including a brief status as an independent kingdom in the 15th century. Until 1995, like Jersey and Guernsey, the Island had its own Governor—most notably Lord Mountbatten from 1969 to 1974, after which he became Lord Lieutenant until his assassination in 1979.
It was home to the poets Swinburne and Alfred Lord Tennyson, and to Queen Victoria, who built her much-loved summer residence and final home Osborne House at East Cowes. The Island's maritime and industrial history encompasses boat building, sail making, the manufacture of flying boats, the world's first hovercraft and the testing and development of Britain's space rockets. It is home to the Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival, Bestival and the recently revived Isle of Wight Festival, which, in 1970, was the largest rock music event ever held. The Island has some exceptional wildlife and is one of the richest locations of dinosaur fossils in Europe.

Kirkstone Pass
Kirkstone Pass is a mountain pass in the English Lake District, in the county of Cumbria. It is at an altitude of 1,489 feet (454 m).
This is the Lake District's highest pass that is open to motor traffic and it connects Ambleside in the Rothay Valley to Patterdale in the Ullswater Valley - the A592 road. In places, the gradient is 1 in 4. Brothers Water provides a picturesque view, on the descent to Patterdale.
The Kirkstone Pass Inn stands close to the summit of the pass. Formerly an important coaching inn, it now caters primarily for tourists. It is the third highest public house in England.
As well as lead and copper mining, quite a large undertaking of slate mining has been taking place over the years. Pets Quarry, currently being worked by "Kirkstone Green Slate Company" is just before the highest point in the pass, from Ambleside. Caudale slate mine is a few miles further down, on the Ullswater side, and was last worked at the beginning of the 20th century. All adits to the mine are now blocked. Nearby is the Hartsop Hall Lead Mine.

Lake District
The Lake District, also commonly known as The Lakes, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous not only for its lakes and its mountains (or fells) but also for its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets.
The majority of the area was designated as the Lake District National Park in 1951. It is the largest of the thirteen National Parks in England and Wales, and the second largest in the UK (after the Cairngorms). It lies entirely within the modern county of Cumbria, shared historically by the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire. All the land in England higher than three thousand feet above sea level lies within the National Park, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. It also contains the deepest and longest lakes in England, Wastwater and Windermere, respectively.
The precise extent of the Lake District was not defined traditionally but is approximated by the boundary of the National Park, the total area of which is about 885 square miles (2,292 km2). The Park extends just over 32 miles (52 km) from east to west and nearly 40 miles (64 km) from north to south, with areas such as the Lake District Peninsulas to the south lying outside the National Park.

The ceremonial county of Lincolnshire is composed of the non-metropolitan county of Lincolnshire and the area covered by the unitary authorities of North Lincolnshire and North-East Lincolnshire. Therefore, part of the ceremonial county is in the Yorkshire and the Humber region, and part is in the East Midlands region. The county is the second largest of the English counties and one that is predominantly agricultural in land use. The county can be broken down into a number of geographical sub-regions including: the Lincolnshire Fens (south Lincolnshire), the Carrs (similar to the Fens but in north Lincolnshire), the Lincolnshire Wolds, and the industrial Humber Estuary and North Sea coast around Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

Morocco

It has a population of about 32 million and an area of 710,850 km², including the disputed region of the Western Sahara, seen by and mostly administered by Morocco as the Southern Provinces. Morocco is part of the Maghreb region, in addition to Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania, and Libya, with which it shares cultural, historical and linguistic ties.
Morocco is a constitutional monarchy with an elected parliament. The King of Morocco holds vast executive powers, including the power to dissolve the parliament. Executive power is exercised by the government but more importantly by the king himself. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of parliament, the Assembly of Representatives and the Assembly of Councillors. The king can also issue decrees called dahirs which have the force of law. The latest Parliamentary elections were held in November 25, 2011, and were considered by some neutral observers to be mostly free and fair. Voter turnout in these elections was estimated to be 43% of registered voters, but only about 25% of Moroccan adult citizens actually voted. The rest either chose not to vote or they were not registered as voters. The political capital is Rabat, but the largest city is Casablanca; other main cities include Marrakesh, Tetouan, Tangier, Salé, Fes, Agadir, Meknes, Oujda, Kenitra, and Nador.

Netherlands

Portsmouth
Portsmouth (i/ˈpɔːtsməθ/) is the second largest city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire on the south coast of England. Portsmouth is notable for being the United Kingdom's only island city; it is located mainly on Portsea Island. It is situated 64 miles (103 km) south west from London and 19 miles (31 km) south east from Southampton.
As a significant naval port for centuries, Portsmouth is home to the world's oldest dry dock still in use and also home to some famous ships, including HMS Warrior, the Tudor carrack Mary Rose and Lord Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory. Although smaller than in its heyday, the naval base remains a major dockyard and base for the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Commandos whose Headquarters resides there. The Spinnaker Tower is a striking recent addition to the city's skyline. It can be found in the redeveloped former HMS Vernon, formerly a shore establishment or 'stone frigate' of the Royal Navy, now an area of retail outlets, restaurants, clubs and bars now known as Gunwharf Quays.

Strait of Gibraltar
The Strait of Gibraltar (Arabic: مضيق جبل طارق, Spanish: Estrecho de Gibraltar) is a narrow strait that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea and separates Spain in Europe from Morocco in Africa. The name comes from Gibraltar, which in turn originates from the Arabic Jebel Tariq (meaning "Tariq's mountain") named after Tariq ibn Ziyad. The Arab name for the Strait is Bab el-Zakat, meaning "Gate of Charity." It is also known as the Straits of Gibraltar, or STROG (Strait Of Gibraltar), in naval use and as the "Pillars of Hercules" (Greek: Ηράκλειες Στήλες) in the ancient world.
Europe and Africa are separated by 7.7 nautical miles (14.3 km; 8.9 mi) of ocean at the strait's narrowest point. The Strait's depth ranges between 300 and 900 metres (160 and 490 fathoms; 980 and 3,000 ft) which possibly interacted with the lower mean sea level of the last major glaciation 20,000 years before present when the level of the sea was believed to be lower by 110–120 m (60–66 fathoms; 360–390 ft). Ferries cross between the two continents every day in as little as 35 minutes. The Spanish side of the Strait is protected under El Estrecho Natural Park.

Surrey
Surrey /ˈsʌri/ is a county in the South East of England, and one of the home counties. The county borders Greater London, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, and Berkshire. The historic county town is Guildford.Surrey County Council sits at Kingston upon Thames, although this has been part of Greater London since 1965. The London boroughs of Lambeth, Wandsworth and Southwark were considered part of Surrey until 1889; and Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Sutton, Barnes and Richmond - all now reclassified as part of Greater London - were part of Surrey until 1965.

Westminster Bridge

Westminster Bridge is a road and foot traffic bridge over the River Thames between Westminster on the north side and Lambeth on the south side, in London, England.
The bridge is painted predominantly green, the same colour as the leather seats in the House of Commons which is on the side of the Palace of Westminster nearest the bridge. This is in contrast to Lambeth Bridge which is red, the same colour as the seats in the House of Lords and is on the opposite side of the Houses of Parliament.
In 2005-2007 it underwent a complete refurbishment, including replacing the iron fascias and repainting the whole bridge. It links the Palace of Westminster on the west side of the river with County Hall and the London Eye on the east and was the finishing point during the early years of the London Marathon.
The next bridge downstream is Hungerford footbridge and upstream is Lambeth Bridge. The bridge was designated a Grade II* listed structure in 1981.

Abi Titmuss, (born 8 February 1976 in Newark, Nottinghamshire), is an English actress, television personality, former glamour model and nurse.
Abi Titmuss grew up in Heckington, Lincolnshire where her parents were teachers, and she took her A levels at Kesteven and Sleaford High School where she played the clarinet. She briefly dated cartoonist B.P. Perry before moving to Ruskington. Her parents divorced when she was 17, and her father moved to Argyll, Scotland, where he remarried. Her mother was secretary of Sleaford Museum Trust.
Titmuss graduated from City University in St Bartholomew's Hospital in 1998. She did a nursing diploma because her A-levels were not good enough to be a doctor and became a staff nurse at London's University College Hospital.
Titmuss was hired as a roving reporter on the Channel 4 programme Richard & Judy but was sacked in January 2004 when it emerged that she had been filmed having sex and the tape became public. Titmuss appeared on ITV1's Celebrity Love Island where she was called "a big fat slag" by fellow contestant Jayne Middlemiss. Titmuss had become close to ex-footballer Lee Sharpe, whom Middlemiss had designs on. Titmuss managed to lose her bikini in the swimming pool showing off a glimpse of nipple. Her other television work includes training as a chef on the 2004 series of Hell's Kitchen, and in 2005, she appeared on Channel 4's The Friday Night Project as a regular guest feature, and in Abi Titmuss: A Modern Day Morality Tale, a fly-on-the-wall documentary for Channel 4. Aidan Davis
Aidan Davis (born 23 March 1997) is a youth street dancer from Birmingham, England who in 2009 reached the final of the third series of the ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent. He finished fifth place overall and later that year he toured the United Kingdom, making live performances with the series' other finalists.
Davis has made numerous performances since Britain's Got Talent, including the 'Diversitoys' tour with Diversity, and as a presenter on the Friday Download show on CBBC.

Despite never having had a dance lesson, at the time Davis was compared to the series 2 winner George Sampson and was later chosen as one of the 40 semi-finalists.

Alesha Dixon
Alesha Anjanette Dixon (born 7 October 1978) is a British rapper, singer-songwriter, dancer, model and television personality. She first found fame in the all-female R&B/garage trio Mis-Teeq, however, the trio separated in 2005 and Dixon continued pursuing her music career as a solo artist, signing to Polydor Records. Dixon began recording her debut solo album, Fired Up, in 2006, but due to poor record sales of her first two singles, "Lipstick" and "Knockdown", she was dropped from Polydor.

Amanda Holden
Amanda Louise Holden (born 16 February 1971) is a British actress and presenter. Anthony Head
Anthony Stewart Head (born 20 February 1954), usually credited as Anthony Head, is an English actor and musician. Head was born in Camden Town, London. Maigret opposite Rupert Davies in the original television series), who married in 1944 in Watford. His older brother is actor and singer Murray Head. Head was educated at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). His first role was in the musical Godspell; this led to roles in television on both BBC and ITV, one of his earliest being an appearance in the series Enemy at the Door (ITV, 1978–1980). In the early 1980s he sang with the band Red Box. In the late 1980s, he appeared in a storyline series of twelve coffee commercials with Sharon Maughan for Nescafé Gold Blend. Ashleigh and Pudsey
Ashleigh and Pudsey are a British dog trick act, comprising trainer Ashleigh Butler, from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, and Pudsey, a six-year old Border Collie, Bichon Frise and Chinese Crested cross. On 12 May 2012, they won the sixth series of the television talent show Britain's Got Talent, becoming the first ever dog trick act to win the competition. Ashleigh and Pudsey beat Jonathan and Charlotte in the final, having received the most votes from the public in a telephone phone-in, winning by 14% of the vote.
On 2 June 2012 Ashleigh and Pudsey performed at Epsom Downs Racecourse in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. In the same month Ashleigh and Pudsey began fronting a PETA campaign calling for a ban on animal cruelty in circuses. They performed on America's Got Talent on 18 July 2012.
Ashleigh and Pudsey are scheduled to perform at the 84th Royal Variety Performance in December 2012 in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. This year Ashleigh and Pudsey are performing at the New Victoria Theatre Woking in Dick Whittington along side Stephen Mulhern.

Bar Wizards
The Bar Wizards (Neil Lowrey and Neil Garner) are a British Flair bartending act. They first rose to fame when they were finalists in the first series of the British television talent show Britain's Got Talent in 2007, in which they lost to the eventual winner, singer Paul Potts. The Bar Wizards started off as bartenders but now perform their Tandem Flair Show worldwide, and bartend at private parties.
The Bar Wizards are from Manchester. Garner originally worked as a bartender in Stockport and Lowrey in Blackley. They met while competing in flare bartending competitions and teamed up as a double act. Bar Wizards International came into being in early 2005, as a result of a partnership between Lowrey and Garner. The pair already had ten years experience in the bar industry and had worked in over fifty countries. This led them to make a show which they believed would allow them to work as performers and entertainers.
The main performance of the Bar Wizards is their Tandem Flair show which they created. They then promoted their new show around the United Kingdom, and soon found interest in the corporate market as an after dinner show, allowing them the opportunity to develop the routine, and hone their tandem skills, whilst experimenting with new moves, music and themes. This culminated in a performance at the 2006 Roadhouse World Finals in Covent Garden, London.

John Barry Humphries, AO, CBE (born 17 February 1934) is an Australian comedian, satirist, dadaist, artist, author and character actor. He is best known for his on-stage and television alter egos Dame Edna Everage, a Melbourne housewife and "gigastar", and Sir Les Patterson, Australia's foul-mouthed cultural attaché to the Court of St. James's. Humphries' characters, especially Dame Edna Everage, have brought him international renown, and he has appeared in numerous films, stage productions and television shows. Originally conceived as a dowdy Moonee Ponds housewife who caricatured Australian suburban complacency and insularity, Edna has evolved over four decades to become a satire of stardom, the gaudily dressed, acid-tongued, egomaniacal, internationally feted Housewife Gigastar, Dame Edna Everage. Humphries' other major satirical character creation was the archetypal Australian bloke Barry McKenzie, who originated as the hero of a comic strip about Australians in London (with drawings by Nicholas Garland) which was first published in Private Eye magazine. The stories about "Bazza" (Humphries' nickname, as well as an Australian term of endearment for the name Barry) gave wide circulation to Australian slang, particularly jokes about drinking and its consequences (much of which was invented by Humphries), and the character went on to feature in two Australian films, in which he was portrayed by Barry Crocker.

In her audition, which was the last of the show and was televised on 13 June 2007, she performed "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" from the musical My Fair Lady and received a standing ovation from the audience, with Simon Cowell saying her audition was the most professional in the whole competition. She received three "yes" votes from the judges and was placed in the next round. She was chosen as one of the 24 semi-finalists for the semi finals in June.

Someone said to him they hoped he'd go on BGT with "all guns blazing" and Callum got really worried, thinking there'd be guns on stage or something. He was terrified of Simon and the sound of the buzzers". She mentioned he had sketched pictures of the three judges, so he can balance their heads on a radiator and practice performing in front of them.

Catherine Tate
Catherine Tate (born Catherine Ford on 12 May 1968) is an English actress, writer and comedienne. As a child, Tate suffered from an obsessive-compulsive disorder which centred on word association. For example, Tate was not able to leave a jumper on the floor or it might have brought misfortune to her mother whose name began with the letter "J" like jumper.

Charlie Wernham
Charlie Wernham is an English comedian and actor who is known for appearing on the second series of the ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent. He is now starring in the E4 show School of Comedy and has also appeared in an episode of The Inbetweeners episode "Work Experience".

Charlotte Hatherley
Charlotte Franklin Hatherley (born 20 June 1979, London, England) is an English guitarist and singer-songwriter. She initially came to prominence as guitarist and backing vocalist for alternative rock band Ash. Since departing Ash in 2006, she has pursued a solo career and also acted as a touring instrumentalist for Client, KT Tunstall and Bat for Lashes. Hatherley is now performing under the moniker of Sylver Tongue.
Hatherley was brought up in West London and attended Chiswick Community School. Her music career began at the age of sixteen, when she played in obscure British punk band Nightnurse. Around this time, Ash were looking for a fourth member, a guitarist, to add to their live sound. Ash frontman Tim Wheeler was present at a Nightnurse gig and thought Hatherley fitted the bill. Hatherley's Ash debut was at Belfast's Limelight on 10 August 1997, and the following week the new lineup played the 1997 V Festival in front of 50,000 people. Her recording debut with the band happened later that year on the single "A Life Less Ordinary" and then on the album Nu-Clear Sounds in 1998.

Chris Lowe
Chris Lowe (born Christopher Sean Lowe, 4 October 1959) is an English musician, who, with colleague Neil Tennant, makes up the pop duo Pet Shop Boys.
Lowe attended Arnold School, an independent school in his home town of Blackpool, Lancashire. He also worked in the Solarium. While there, Lowe played trombone in a seven-piece dance band called One Under the Eight, that played old-time favourites like "Hello Dolly", "La Bamba" and "Moon River". Lowe's grandfather had been a trombonist and was a member of comedy jazz troupe The Nitwits. Lowe also became a skilled pianist.
Lowe studied architecture at the University of Liverpool from 1978. During a work placement in 1981 at a London architectural practice, he designed a staircase for an industrial estate in Milton Keynes. It was at this time that he met Neil Tennant in a hi-fi shop on the Kings Road in London.
Although Lowe has not been involved in many solo projects, in 1993 he wrote and produced the track "Do the Right Thing" for the footballer, Ian Wright (Lowe is a die-hard Arsenal F.C. fan). The song featured backing vocals by the long-time Pet Shop Boys’ backing singer, Sylvia Mason-James, and the single featured remixes by Rollo. In 2004 Lowe was commissioned to do music for an advertisement for the sunscreen brand Blockhead. The song ended up in a remixed version on a "Café Mambo" chill-out compilation. He has also written the music for the song "Streets of Berlin", featured in the revival of Bent at the Trafalgar Studios in Whitehall in 2006.

Connie Talbot
Connie Talbot (born 20 November 2000) is an English child singer from Streetly, Aldridge. She rose to fame in 2007 when she reached the final of the first series of Britain's Got Talent, where she was runner-up to Paul Potts. Talbot was supposed to sign with Sony BMG but the label pulled out of the deal due to her age.
Talbot signed with Rainbow Recording Company and released her debut album Over the Rainbow in the UK on 26 November 2007. The album was re-released 18 June 2008 with a new track listing, and the first single from the album, a cover of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds", was released on 10 June.

Damon Scott (born 1979 in Salisbury) is a British male entertainer made famous for his appearance in the first series of the hitITV variety talent show Britain's Got Talent. Emily Scott is an Australian commercial, lingerie and glamour model, DJ, producer and television personality.
She appeared in the visuals of Robbie Williams' spring 2006 tour, and in a remake of the "Rock DJ" video clip. She was the face of Lipton Ice Tea. In 2006, she was in the ITV reality series Love Island.
As a DJ she tours Europe, Australia and Asia. Scott mixed a compilation CD "Clublife" for Central Station which is available on iTunes. She has supported act Erick Morillo. She also appeared on the TLC show London Ink, where she got a Koi fish tattoo on her right arm.[citation needed].
In the autumn of 2007 Scott was in the second BOB series of Cirque de Celebrité on Sky One in the United Kingdom[citation needed].
Scott joined the cast of Australian Dancing with the Stars in July 2009. She was eliminated on 26 July 2009.

Faryl Smith
Faryl Smith (born 23 July 1995) is a British teen mezzo-soprano who rose to fame after appearing on the second series of the ITV television talent show Britain's Got Talent in 2008. She received praise throughout the competition, and although the favourite to win after the second round, she finished outside the top three in the live final on 31 May. During the competition, she was tutored by singing coach Yvie Burnett and received offers from various record labels. After the show, she, unlike other finalists, did not sign with Simon Cowell's Syco, although she did appear on fellow finalist Andrew Johnston's debut album, One Voice.
Smith signed a contract with Universal Classics and Jazz for a £2.3 million advance in December 2008, the largest ever granted to a schoolgirl. Her debut album, Faryl, was recorded from December 2008 to January 2009 and released in March 2009. Faryl became the fastest-selling solo classical album in British chart history, selling 29,200 copies in the first week. It debuted at number six, but rose to number four in the following week, making Smith the third Britain's Got Talent contestant to have a top ten album. In 2010, on account of Faryl, Smith was nominated for two Classical BRIT Awards and became the youngest artist ever to receive a double nomination.

Frankie Howerd
Francis Alick "Frankie" Howerd OBE (6 March 1917, York – 19 April 1992) was an English comedian and comic actor whose career, described by fellow comedian Barry Cryer as "a series of comebacks", spanned six decades.
Howerd was born the son of a soldier, Francis Alfred William (1887–1935) and Edith Florence Howard (née Morrison, 1888–1962) at the City Hospital in York, England, in 1917 (not 1922 as he later claimed). He was educated at Shooters Hill Grammar School in Woolwich, London. His first stage appearance was at age 13 but his early hopes of becoming a serious actor were dashed when he failed an audition for RADA. He began to entertain during World War II service in the British Army. It was at this time that he adapted his surname to Howerd "to be different". Despite suffering from stage fright, he continued to work after the war, beginning his professional career in the summer of 1946 in a touring show called For the Fun of It.
His act was soon heard on radio, making his debut in early December 1946 on the BBC's Variety Bandbox programme with a number of other ex-servicemen. His profile rose in the immediate postwar period (aided by material written by Eric Sykes, Galton and Simpson and Johnny Speight). In 1954, he made his screen début opposite Petula Clark in The Runaway Bus, which had been written for his specific comic talents, but he never became a major film presence. The film was so low-budget that they could not afford scenery; instead they used a fog generator so that little was visible behind the action. Even so, the film was an immediate hit.

George Sampson
George William Sampson (born 29 June 1993) is a street dancer and actor from Warrington, England. He won the second series of Britain's Got Talent on 31 May 2008 at the age of 14.
In 2007, a dance teacher called Dominic Chambers told Sampson that there were auditions in the area that would be right up his alley. He only discovered he'd be auditioning for the first series of Britain's Got Talent when he arrived. In his audition, he danced to "Drop" (Timbaland feat. Magoo & Fatman Scoop), receiving a yes vote from all three judges. However, despite Simon Cowell's enthusiasm, he was unable to convince the other two judges, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, to let Sampson proceed to the live semi-finals. This experience made Sampson determined to re-audition the following year and prove Holden and Morgan wrong. In the intervening time, he continued dancing on the streets of Manchester to improve his technique, and to raise money for his family.
In 2008, Sampson successfully got through the first round of Britain's Got Talent series 2 auditions by dancing to "Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now)". He then came top in the audience's vote in his semi-final with his arrangement of Mint Royale's big beat remix of "Singin' in the Rain", complete with an artificial rain machine on-stage, a formula that had previously been produced in a television advertisement for the Volkswagen Golf GTI. He subsequently won the audience's vote in the final, beating dance duo Signature (second place) and Andrew Johnston (third place). He broke into tears when his win was announced. Sampson was due to perform a different routine for the final, to a track by the Bee Gees, which he described as involving "a lot of movement without me actually doing anything". An hour before the final started he changed his mind and, after consulting Simon Cowell, opted to re-perform his winning act from the semi-final.

Harold Pinter
Harold Pinter, CH, CBE (10 October 1930 – 24 December 2008) was a Nobel Prize-winning English playwright, screenwriter, director and actor. One of the most influential modern British dramatists, his writing career spanned more than 50 years. Subsequently, he continued training at the Central School of Speech and Drama and worked in repertory theatre in Ireland and England. In 1956 he married actress Vivien Merchant and had a son, Daniel born in 1958. He left Merchant in 1975 and married author Antonia Fraser in 1980.

Hollie Steel
Hollie Steel (born 1 July 1998) is a singer and performer from Huncoat, Lancashire, England. At the age of ten she was one of ten finalists on the third series of the ITV reality show Britain's Got Talent.
Her first audition drew mostly positive comments from all of the show's judges. In her second appearance during the semi-finals Steel forgot the words of her song, broke down in tears and could not finish the song, but one of the programme's judges intervened and she was allowed to perform a second time. Steel advanced to the finals and finished in sixth place. She then toured the United Kingdom, making live performances with the series' other finalists in mid-2009.
In September 2009, Steel signed with a record label and began recording her debut album, which was released in May 2010.
Steel has been singing since the age of six when she showed interest in her brother Joshua's performances. She also attends the KLF Dance Academy in Burnley with him. Prior to Britain's Got Talent she performed in productions of Annie and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Jai McDowall
Jai McDowall (born 24 July 1986) is a Scottish singer who won the fifth series of Britain's Got Talent in June 2011. As the winner, he received £100,000 and performed at the 2011 Royal Variety Performance. McDowall was signed to Syco Music, a subdivision of record label giant, Sony Music.

Jake Pratt (born 25 September 1996 in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England), also known as Jakey P, is an English actor and comedian. James Cracknell
James Cracknell, OBE (born 5 May 1972) is a British rowing champion and double Olympic gold medalist and adventurer. Cracknell is married to TV and radio presenter Beverley Turner; they have three children. In the New Year Honours List, 2004, he was appointed OBE for services to sport. He is also a trained geography teacher, as stated in an episode of BBC comedy quiz School's Out.
James Cracknell began rowing whilst attending Kingston Grammar School and rowed at the Junior World Championships in 1989 and 1990, winning a gold medal in 1990. He graduated from the University of Reading with a Bachelor of Science in Human Geography in 1993. Moving into the senior squad, Cracknell made numerous appearances in the World Rowing Championships; however, he did not win any medals prior to the 1996 Summer Olympics. He qualified in the double scull for the 1996 Games, but fell ill with tonsilitis and was unable to race. In 1997, he won a seat in the men's coxless fours, with Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pinsent and Tim Foster. With this crew, he won the rowing World Championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999 (with Ed Coode replacing the injured Foster), and finally the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. In August 2000, the month prior to winning gold in Sydney, he took part in a 3-part BBC documentary entitled Gold Fever. This followed the coxless four team in the years leading up to the Olympics, including video diaries recording the highs and lows in their quest for gold.

John Farnworth

John Farnworth was born in Longridge, and grew up in Preston. He apprenticed as footballer in the youth teams of Preston North End, yet John is a Manchester United supporter.
Farnworth's grandfather was a defender at Accrington Stanley, and his father formerly played for Burnley.
At the age of 14, he read Simon Clifford's Learn to play the Brazilian Way and, giving up professional football aspirations, started to practice the freestyle skills that were illustrated in the book. After a year of training, Farnworth joined one of the Clifford-franchised Brazilian Soccer Schools, in Manchester. The schools' Futebol de Salão use a size-two weighted ball which aids and improves skilful play[citation needed].

Kate and Gin
Kate and Gin are a musical canine freestyle act consisting of Kate Nicholas, from Norbury, Cheshire and her dancing Border Collie, 6 year old Gin. The two achieved fame following their 2008 appearances on the second series of ITV1 talent show, Britain's Got Talent. Since the show, the duo have appeared publicly and published a book, Kate and Gin, about dog training. Kate and Gin are currently performing in pantomimes.
Kate and Gin first appeared on the second series of Britain's Got Talent on 12 April 2008 where they performed to Moby's remake of the James Bond theme tune, received "three yeses" by the judges (Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan) and were sent through to the semi-finals. Before the live shows, Cowell described the duo as the favourite to win. In the live semi-final, broadcast on 26 May 2008, Kate and Gin were again successful, performing a different routine to The Scissor Sisters' "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" and finishing second behind dance group Signature. Before the final Kate and Gin were one of the five favourites to win Britain's Got Talent. They again performed a routine to Moby's "James Bond Theme" in the show's final on 31 May 2008, but failed to make the final three. The competition was eventually won by George Sampson. After the final, the duo performed with others from the show in the Britain's Got Talent Live Tour, again performing a routine to the Scissor Sisters' "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'".

Lauren Laverne
Lauren Cecilia Fisher (née Gofton) (born 28 April 1978), known professionally as Lauren Laverne, is a British radio DJ, television presenter, author and singer. Lou and Andy
Lou Todd and Andy Pipkin are fictional characters from the cult BBC TV and radio show Little Britain, played by David Walliams and Matt Lucas respectively. Andy's catchphrases include, "Yeah I know", "Want that one" and "(I) Don't like it", while Lou's catchphrase is "What a kerfuffle!"
Lou is kind, generous and incredibly patient. He spends his spare time helping his friend Andy, who - unbeknown to Lou - feigns the need for a wheelchair. Louis Walsh
Louis Walsh (born Michael Louis Vincent Walsh; 5 August 1952) is an Irish entertainment manager and judge on the British television talent show The X Factor.
Originally from Kiltimagh, County Mayo, Walsh moved to Dublin to get a start in the music industry. He managed Johnny Logan, Boyzone and Westlife, three of Ireland's most successful pop artists in recent decades. In later life, Walsh began an alternative career as a TV talent pundit, on programmes such as You're a Star, The X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent, amongst others.
Louis Walsh got his start in talent an agreement with Johnny Logan, whom Walsh met on a bus when he was 20, and, despite legal difficulties with Logan's previous management, Walsh was convinced that Logan could be a big star if he just got the right breaks. Walsh persuaded Logan to enter the 1979 and 1980 National Song Contests. Logan won 1980 heats with a Shay Healy number called "What's Another Year", representing Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest that year in the Netherlands, which he won.

Lucy Davis
Lucy Clare Davis (born 2 January 1973) is an English actress. She is best known for playing the character Dawn Tinsley in the BBC comedy The Office and as Dianne in the horror-comedy movie Shaun of the Dead.
According to IMDb, Davis's first role was in a 1993 episode of The Detectives. Davis played Maria Lucas in the BBC's 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice. Paul Mackenzie Crook was born in Maidstone, Kent, and grew up in Dartford. His father, Michael Crook, worked for British Airways, and his mother, Sheila, was a hospital manager. He has two sisters. Mark Gatiss
Mark Gatiss ( /ˈɡeɪ.tɪs/ GAY-tis; born 17 October 1966) is an English actor, screenwriter and novelist. Mark James Morriss (born 18 October 1971 in Hounslow, Middlesex) is an English singer-songwriter, formerly the lead singer for The Bluetones who split up in September 2011 following a farewell tour. Lucas was born in Paddington, London, the son of Diana (née Williams) and John Stanley Lucas (1944–1996), who ran a chauffeuring business. Lucas was raised in an observant Jewish family, with some of his British-born mother's family having fled Nazi Germany. His family were members of Edgware and District Reform Synagogue. Lucas grew up in Stanmore, Middlesex; he has an older brother, Howard. He has had alopecia since his childhood, which in interviews he has inconsistently attributed to various events, including a delayed reaction to a car accident at the age of four. He lost all of his hair when he was six years old. Lucas' father died of a heart attack aged 52, in Brent, Greater London.

Michael Gambon
Sir Michael John Gambon, CBE (born 19 October 1940) is an Irish actor who has worked in theatre, television and film. A highly respected theatre actor, Gambon is recognised for his roles as Philip Marlow in the BBC television serial The Singing Detective, as Jules Maigret in the 1990s ITV serial Maigret, and as Professor Albus Dumbledore in the last six Harry Potter films (following the death of actor Richard Harris).
Gambon was born in Cabra, Dublin, during World War II. His father, Edward Gambon, was an engineer, and his mother, Mary (née Hoare), was a seamstress. His father decided to seek work in the rebuilding of London, and so the family moved to Mornington Crescent in North London, when Gambon was five. His father had him made a British citizen, a decision that would later allow Gambon to receive an actual, rather than honorary, knighthood and CBE.
Brought up as a strict Roman Catholic, he attended St Aloysius Boys' School in Somers Town and served at the altar. He then moved to St Aloysius' College in Hornsey Lane, Highgate, London, whose former pupils include Peter Sellers and Joe Cole. He later attended a school in Kent, before leaving with no qualifications at fifteen. He then gained an apprenticeship with Vickers Armstrong as a toolmaker. By the time he was 21, he was a fully qualified engineer. He kept the job for a further year, acquiring a fascination and passion for collecting antique guns, clocks, watches, and classic cars.

Michael McIntyre
Michael Hazen James McIntyre (born 21 February 1976) is a British stand-up comedian. As well as his stand-up, he has performed on programmes such as Live at the Apollo and has his own programme, Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow.

Monty Python (sometimes known as The Pythons) was a British surreal comedy group who created Monty Python's Flying Circus, a British television comedy sketch show that first aired on the BBC on 5 October 1969. A self-contained comedy team responsible for both writing and performing their work, the Pythons' creative control allowed them to experiment with form and content, discarding rules of television comedy. Their influence on British comedy has been apparent for years, while in North America it has coloured the work of cult performers from the early editions of Saturday Night Live through to more recent absurdist trends in television comedy. "Pythonesque" has entered the English lexicon as a result.

Myles Antony Ryan and Connor Jerrade Ryan (born 19 October 1995) were a British pop and R&B duo from Manchester, England who are best known for appearing on the fourth series of ITV show Britains Got Talent as part of the boyband 'Connected'.
The twins auditioned as 'Connected' on the fourth series of ITV reality show Britain's Got Talent in early 2010, along with Harry & Max Mondryk and Matthew Fitzgerald. For their audition, they sang I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys. While they received positive feedback from judges Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, Simon Cowell criticized the band for looking 'out-dated' and claimed that they shouldn't have tried to impersonate the band. In retaliation to this, the band performed Ain't No Mountain High Enough to win him over. They received three yes votes from the judges. They then found out they went through to the semi finals.
In the second semi final, the band performed No Boundaries by Kris Allen. They received positive feedback from all three judges, and after landing in the judges vote, they were chosen by Cowell and Morgan to go through to the final.

Neil Francis Tennant (born 10 July 1954) is an English musician, singer and songwriter, who, with bandmate Chris Lowe, makes up the electronic dance music duo Pet Shop Boys.
Tennant was born in North Shields, near Newcastle upon Tyne to William Tennant (1923–2009) and Sheila Tennant (1923–2008). He has a sister, Susan, and two brothers, Simon and Philip.
As a child, Tennant attended St. Cuthbert's Grammar School, an all-boys' Roman Catholic school in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Tennant's songs "This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave" and "It's a Sin" refer to his early life in Catholic school and the strict Catholic upbringing there. In 2007, he won the first series of ITV's Britain's Got Talent with his performance of "Nessun dorma", an aria from Puccini's opera Turandot. Quentin Blake
Quentin Saxby Blake, CBE, FCSD, RDI, (born 16 December 1932) is an English cartoonist, illustrator and children's author, well known for his collaborations with writer Roald Dahl.
Blake was born in 1932 in Sidcup, Kent and was evacuated to the West Country during the war. He went to Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, where his English teacher, J H Walsh, influenced his ambition to become involved in literature. His first published drawing was for the satirical magazine Punch, at the age of 16. He read English Literature at Downing College, Cambridge (1953-6), received his postgraduate teaching diploma from the University of London, and later studied at the Chelsea School of Art. He gained another teaching diploma at the Institute of Education before working at the Royal College of Art. His full name is Quentin Saxby Blake. He is not married and has no children.
Blake gained a reputation as a reliable and humorous illustrator of more than 300 children's books. As well as illustrating the books of others, including Joan Aiken, Roald Dahl, Elizabeth Bowen and Dr. Seuss, Blake has written numerous books of his own. As of 2006, he has participated in the writing and/or illustrating of 323 books (of which he wrote 35 himself, and 18 were by Dahl). He taught at the Royal College of Art for over twenty years, and was head of the Illustration department from 1978 to 1986. In 1993 he was made resident dramatist at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter, the youngest playwright to be honoured by the Arts Council in this way, and for them he wrote a series of plays, including his controversial comic fable about God living in suburbia, 'Breaking Bread Together', which later was revived in London. Shaheen Jafargholi
Shaheen Jafargholi (born 23 January 1997) is a Welsh teen actor and singer from Swansea, Wales. He is of Iranian and Welsh descent. Stephen Poliakoff, CBE, FRSL (born 1 December 1952) is an acclaimed British playwright, director and scriptwriter, widely judged amongst Britain's foremost television dramatists.
The second of four children, Poliakoff was sent at a young age to boarding school, which he hated. He then proceeded to Westminster School where he attracted sufficient attention for Granny, a play written and directed by him, to be reviewed in The Times newspaper. After Westminster, he went to King's College, Cambridge but never took a degree.
Poliakoff continued to write stage plays, becoming writer-in-residence for the National Theatre at the age of 24, but he became increasingly interested in the medium of television, with Stronger Than the Sun (1977 – BBC1 Play for Today), Bloody Kids (1980 – ATV), Caught on a Train (1980 – BBC2 Playhouse) starring Peggy Ashcroft, and Soft Targets (1982 – Play for Today). Stevie Starr
Stevie Starr is a Scottish performance artist who refers to himself as a professional regurgitator. His act consists of swallowing various items (coins, lightbulbs, balloons, nails, billiard balls, dry sugar, goldfish) and regurgitating them. He has never described exactly how this is done, and the implausibility of some of his regurgitations have led some to believe that he is an illusionist. Although, during an appearance on Howard Stern's TV show in the 1990s, Stevie was shown swallowing broken glass and other dangerous objects and carefully regurgitated most of it, then the camera followed him into a restroom where he stuck his finger down his throat and vomited up the last of it. Starr has appeared on many television shows, with several appearances on each of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Stevie has a busy international touring schedule for his longer solo act.
According to his live act and official biography, Starr grew up in Glasgow, Scotland in a children's home. He claims to have developed his talent in order to hide money. Starr claims to be the world's only "professional regurgitator", though similar acts do exist in modern and historical performance related to the geek show tradition.

Sydney Cecil Newman, OC (April 1, 1917 – October 30, 1997) was a Canadian film and television producer, who played a pioneering role in British television drama from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. The Cheeky Girls are a pop duo consisting of twin sisters Gabriela and Monica Irimia, from Cluj-Napoca in Transylvania, Romania, but based in Britain. After appearing as auditionees in Popstars: The Rivals, they achieved success in the charts with four top ten hits between 2002 and 2004. They are best known for their debut single, "Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)", which has sold more than 1.2 million copies worldwide.
Gabriela and Monica were born on 31 October 1982 to Doru and Margit Irimia. Gabriela is older by 10 minutes. Their early life in Romania consisted of studying gymnastics and ballet and touring with the Hungarian National Opera. Moving to the United Kingdom with their mother in 2002, the girls shot to fame as the Cheeky Girls after auditioning on the British TV shows, Channel 4's Model Behaviour and more importantly Popstars: The Rivals. Following two appearances on the show with their audition which had judges Pete Waterman and Louis Walsh not knowing what to say (Waterman was later quoted as saying they were the worst act ever), various record companies approached the Granada Press Office. The Press Office contacted Paul Holland at Granada Ventures who was able to secure them a deal with the Multiply label part of Telstar Records. Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) was swiftly recorded and released in the first week in December. Entering the chart at number two, the single remained in the top five for five consecutive weeks – four of them at number two. In the week before Christmas this was one of three singles from the Popstars: The Rivals show to occupy the Top 3, One True Voice and Girls Aloud held the other two positions.

He attended Heathfield Nursery and went on to the nearby secondary school, Eastbourne Comprehensive in Darlington.
Moir has four children; the eldest two are Alice Vincent Moir (born May 1993) and Louis Vincent Moir (born July 1997 in York), by his first wife Sarah Vincent, whom he married in 1990. They divorced in 1999.

EDIT: Many are commenting on the paradigm shift here, having Walliams (who usually plays at being the teacher's pet) play the class clown this year, and I wanted to comment on this as well. Since I posted the video, I get to put my comment in the video description! In case you haven't noticed, every year there's always the "subversive" team that does mostly joke answers. Every team plays at their own slightly different bit, but it's more of a performance than a quiz. How they act one year to another isn't connected. If all the teams gave real answers, this wouldn't be any fun. Since there's no Noel Fielding team this year, which team would you rather have giving the joke answers? Wossy/Oliver is BORING. David Mitchell cannot be irreverent or it would explode the universe. The obvious choice was Walliams & Hart, and I think they did a really good job. I found them really funny.

The show we wait for all year round, it's the Big Fat Quiz of the Year! Your host is, of course, Jimmy Carr. Teams this year are: Jonathan Ross & Jamie Oliver (The Lisping Ninnies) David Mitchell & Eddie Izzard (Nexus-6) Miranda Hart & David Walliams (Les Be Friends) Unfortunately, no Noel Fielding this year :( Of course, I do not own any rights to this video. It all belongs to the fine folks at Channel 4, who I'm sure understand that we underprivileged non-Brits need some end of the year quiz fun, too... right? EDIT: Many are commenting on the paradigm shift here, having Walliams (who usually plays at being the teacher's pet) play the class clown this year, and I wanted to comment on this as well. Since I posted the video, I get to put my comment in the video description! In case you haven't noticed, every year there's always the "subversive" team that does mostly joke answers. Every team plays at their own slightly different bit, but it's more of a performance than a quiz. How they act one year to another isn't connected. If all the teams gave real answers, this wouldn't be any fun. Since there's no Noel Fielding team this year, which team would you rather have giving the joke answers? Wossy/Oliver is BORING. David Mitchell cannot be irreverent or it would explode the universe. The obvious choice was Walliams & Hart, and I think they did a really good job. I found them really funny.

I drove over to Windsor this afternoon to cheer on the amazing David Walliams during his attempt to swim the entire length of the Thames.
We pitched up just by the Windsor Leisure Centre and by the time David appeared a sizeable crowd had gathered to cheer him on. What an incredible effort.
Was my 3 year-old impressed though? Was he heck. As David swam past he announced he wanted to chase him down and hit him with a stick. Kids, eh?

David Edward Walliams (born Williams; 20 August 1971) is a comedian, writer, children's author and actor, known for his partnership with Matt Lucas on the TV sketch show Little Britain and its predecessor Rock Profile. More recently he and Lucas wrote and starred in Come Fly with Me.
Walliams joined the judging panel for series 6 of Britain's Got Talent for 2012.

Early life[link]
Born in Merton, southwest London, on 20 August 1971 to Peter, a London Transport engineer, and Kathleen Williams, a lab technician, Williams was brought up in Banstead, Surrey.[citation needed] His parents appeared on The Friday Night Project when he was the guest star on the show. He was educated at Collingwood Boys' School in Wallington, Surrey, (now Collingwood School) and the independent Reigate Grammar School (where he was a contemporary of Robert Shearman).[citation needed] He was a member of the National Youth Theatre, where he met Matt Lucas.[citation needed] Walliams studied drama at the University of Bristol from 1989 to 1992, one year below Simon Pegg.[citation needed]
Williams changed his name to Walliams ( /ˈwæliəmz/) when he joined the actors' trade union Equity, as there was already a member named David Williams.[1] This was spoofed in a mock interview on Rock Profile, when Robbie Williams was continuously referred to as 'Robbie Walliams'.
Television and film career[link]
After leaving university, his first job was writing for The Ant & Dec Show, a children's show that aired on CBBC from 1995 to 1997[2], his first appearance onscreen was as "Lesley Luncheonmeat" on Sky1's show Games World in 1993. He appeared alongside Alex Verrey, who played Big Boy Barry, every Tuesday evening. He went on to be "The Lift" on the first series of the CBBC gameshow Incredible Games in 1994. In 1998 he wrote and starred in Barking, a late night sketch show broadcast on Channel 4 and featuring a host of, back then, unknown stars such as Catherine Tate, Peter Kay and Mackenzie Crook. He appeared with The League of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss, who wrote and appeared in Doctor Who parodies The Pitch of Fear, The Web of Caves and The Kidnappers for BBC2's "Doctor Who Night" in 1999. He later performed in the Big Finish Productions Doctor Who audio play Phantasmagoria, written by Gatiss. Walliams appeared with Matt Lucas in the video of the Fat Les song Vindaloo (the unofficial anthem for the England national football team at the 1998 FIFA World Cup) and had a cameo role in a 1999 episode of Simon Pegg's Spaced (1x3 "Art") as Vulva, an artist/collaborator from Brian's past and now a self-proclaimed artist of impressionism.
He played Jake Plaskow in the BBC's Attachments, set in an internet start-up company. In 2001 he was one of the leads in Cruise of the Gods. In 2003 he appeared in EastEnders and Marple.
From 2003 to 2005 Walliams co-wrote and co-starred in three series of the BBC TV character sketch show Little Britain with Matt Lucas. The programme first aired on BBC3 before moving to the more mainstream BBC1. A successful live stage show of the series, Little Britain Live, was produced in 2006. A number of seasonal and charity specials followed, up to 2009. A spin-off series produced in the USA by HBO, Little Britain USA, followed in 2008.
In 2005 Walliams starred in the video for Charlotte Hatherley's single Bastardo along with Simon Pegg, Lucy Davis and Lauren Laverne. In 2006 he made an appearance in the film A Cock and Bull Story. Later in the year he presented a documentary on James Bond, entitled David Walliams: My Life with James Bond. In 2007 he returned to non-comedy television, garnering excellent reviews[citation needed] for his portrayal of a suave and dangerous manipulator in Stephen Poliakoff's Capturing Mary as well as appearing in the film Virgin Territory. In September 2007, Walliams appeared in the comedy film Run, Fat Boy, Run. Walliams portrayed comedian Frankie Howerd in the BBC4 TV film Rather You Than Me. On 26 August 2008 he made his stage debut at the Gate Theatre in Dublin opposite Michael Gambon in Harold Pinter's No Man's Land, in front of an audience that included Pinter himself. The production transferred to London later in the year. In 2010, Walliams appeared alongside Paul Rudd and Steve Carell in the comedy Dinner for Schmucks.
Walliams appeared in Series 7, Episode 6 of the BBC 2 show Top Gear.[3][4]
He also plays the mole-like alien, Gibbis, in the eleventh episode of the sixth series of Doctor Who entitled "The God Complex".
He is the narrator of Are You Having a Laugh? TV and Disability, which was shown on BBC 2 on 25 June 2010.
In early 2011 he hosted new panel show Wall of Fame on Sky 1.
He will star as Uncle Pumblechook in Great Expectations.
Walliams and Lucas[link]
In the late-1990s, playing minor roles in sketches such as The Club. Walliams and Lucas played grotesque caricatures of various rock musicians in the series Rock Profile and in the spoof documentary series Sir Bernard's Stately Homes. They were also stars of the Paramount Comedy Channel show Mash and Peas, and it was in this guise that they appeared in the Fat Les video (see above). They also had small roles in Plunkett and Maclaine as prisoners.
They have appeared together in a music video for the Pet Shop Boys single "I'm with Stupid", in which the two are apparently auditioning their version of the song's video for Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, who are tied up and appear to be hostages.
The pair are best known for Little Britain, which ran from 2003 to 2009 on the BBC in the UK and from 2008 onwards on HBO in the USA. Among the characters Walliams played were Emily Howard, a deluded "transvestite", Ray McCooney, an insane Scottish hotel owner, and Sebastian Love, an aide de camp to the Prime Minister (portrayed by Anthony Head) on whom Love has a huge crush.
The characters from Little Britain played by Walliams and Lucas appeared in a 2010 UK television advertising campaign for the Nationwide Building Society.
Their later series was Come Fly with Me, a six-part series airing on BBC One.[5] The first episode was the third most watched programme of Christmas Day 2010, and the most watched comedy of the year.[6]
Charity work[link]
Swimming the English Channel[link]
Walliams took up swimming as a youth as his preferred form of exercise, because he was overweight.[7] On 4 July 2006 he swam the English Channel for the charity Sport Relief (part of Comic Relief).[8][9] He took 10 hours and 34 minutes to swim the 22-mile (35 km) stretch of sea, equivalent to 700 lengths of an Olympic-size swimming pool. This was wrongly reported as one of the top 50 recorded times for an unaided Channel crossing; in reality Walliams placed 167th at the time of crossing in only the CSA listings, excluding the CSPF listings.[10] He raised over £1 million in donations. Under the supervision of his trainer, he trained for nine months to prepare for the swim.[7] The training had to coincide with Walliams and Lucas's Little Britain Live tour, so he daily had to train for several hours before performing on stage in the evening. He first swam from Lee-on-the-Solent near Portsmouth to the Isle Of Wight in around 2 hours and also completed an eight-hour swim off the coast of Croatia before embarking on the cross-channel attempt. He has insisted that prior to his challenge he had never seriously taken part in any sport.[11] The Bluetones' lead singer Mark Morriss wrote a song, "Fade In/Fade Out", in honour of Walliams' achievement; it can be found on their self-titled album, released on 9 October 2006.[citation needed]
Swimming the Strait of Gibraltar[link]
On 7 March 2008, Walliams, along with James Cracknell, swam the 12 miles (19 km) Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco, again for Sport Relief. He successfully completed the swim in just over 4½ hours.[12]
Cycling[link]
In March 2010 Walliams and a group of celebrities cycled an end-to-end journey through the UK, raising over £1 million for Sport Relief. Walliams suffered a serious fall when tackling the Kirkstone Pass, a thousand-foot climb in the Lake District but was able to complete the ride.[13]
24 Hour Panel People[link]
In March 2011, he undertook "24 Hour Panel People", in which he took part in back to back recordings of various panel show formats over the course of 24 hours to raise money for Comic Relief. The recordings were streamed live on the BBC website. The shows featured included Would I Lie To You?, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Just a Minute, It's Only TV...But I Like It, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, The Generation Game, Through the Keyhole, Blankety Blank, Mock the Week, Argumental, Celebrity Juice, QI, Mastermind, Have I Got News for You, Call My Bluff, and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
Swimming the Thames[link]
On 4 February 2011, Walliams announced that he would swim a 140-mile length of the River Thames in aid of Sport Relief. Starting on 5 September at Lechlade-on-Thames Walliams swam the 140-mile swimmable length of the 215-mile river, completing his challenge on 12 September 2011 reaching Westminster Bridge.[14][15][16] On the first day of the swim, he experienced a symptom of hypothermia, possibly due to his not wearing a wetsuit. He later encountered severe stomach problems due to the bacteria in the Thames and suffered a torn disc. He swam up to twelve hours a day. During his swim, Walliams helped rescue a dog that had slipped loose from its owner and jumped in the water to join David. The Labrador dog got into difficulties on returning to the riverbank and was lifted out of the water by the owner, with a hand from Walliams. Animal rights group PETA declared they would award him an honour.[17] Upon finishing his eight-day swim, he found out he made over £1 million for Sport Relief.
Books[link]
In early 2008 Walliams signed a contract with HarperCollins to publish two children's books.[18] The debut novel, The Boy In The Dress, illustrated by Quentin Blake, was released worldwide on 1 November 2008. It explores several of the themes of Little Britain from Walliams' own life on an emotional level, such as the camp humour of cross-dressing and effeminacy.[1] The story recounts a neglected 12-year-old boy's search for a female role model, his friendship with the popular girl in school, and the ways in which relationships develop along gender lines. The story has a strong resonance with Anne Fine's 1989 book Bill's New Frock.
In November 2009 came Mr Stink, again illustrated by Quentin Blake, about a 12-year-old girl who meets a tramp and helps look after him. She keeps him hidden from her family. The book consists of 26 illustrated chapters full of jokes. It is aimed at teenagers and children over 9. The book was awarded the Children's Award in the inaugural People's Book Prize in 2010.[19]
On 28 October 2010 he published his third book Billionaire Boy, illustrated by Tony Ross.[citation needed] It tells the story of Joe Spud, the richest 12-year-old in the world. Joe has everything he could ever want: his own Formula One racing car, a thousand pairs of trainers, 8 billion pounds, even an orang-utan for a butler, but there is just one thing he really needs: a friend.[citation needed] The book included a 'billion pound note' that was used to enter a competition to win a day as a billionaire in London.[citation needed]
His fourth book, 'Gangsta Granny' was released in October 2011 and again illustrated by Tony Ross. It tells the story of Ben who is bored every time he is made to stay at his grandma’s house as all she wants to do is to play board games and eat cabbage soup. But Ben finds out she was once an international jewel thief and all her life, she has been plotting to steal the crown jewels, and wants Ben to help.
Awards[link]
Walliams was given a special award in recognition of his sporting efforts for charity. Matt Lucas made a documentary of this, entitled Little Britain's Big Swim, which is on the DVD. On 6 November 2006 he won the Mirror's "Pride of Britain" Award for the Most Influential Public Figure as he raised more than £1 million swimming the channel for the charity Sport Relief. Although initially tipped as a contender for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year poll for 2006, he failed to make the final shortlist of 10 contenders. Walliams was given a special award during the ceremony for his achievement. In July 2006 he became Patron of 'Cardiac Risk in the Young.' In September 2011, David won the Lincolnshire Young People's Book Award in the 9-11 year old category with his book, Mr Stink. The award is voted for by the school children of Lincolnshire.
At the 2012 National Television Awards, David won the Landmark Achievement Award, for his television career and achievements for Sport Relief.
Personal life[link]
In 2009 Walliams began dating Dutch model Lara Stone. On 20 January 2010, it became known that they were engaged. Walliams proposed to Stone in Los Angeles, after her parents gave their blessing to the relationship.[20] On 16 May 2010 the couple were married at central London's Claridge's Hotel.[21][22]
He has previously been romantically linked to Patsy Kensit, Abi Titmuss, Emily Scott and model Lauren Budd.[23]
Walliams has been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder,[24] and described his 2006 swim of the English Channel as "some sort of redemption".[25] He admitted to going through periods of intense self-loathing and suffered a mental breakdown and had insomnia for nine months until he sought professional help.[citation needed]

David Edward Walliams (born Williams; 20 August 1971) is a comedian, writer, children's author and actor, known for his partnership with Matt Lucas on the TV sketch show Little Britain and its predecessor Rock Profile. More recently he and Lucas wrote and starred in Come Fly with Me.
Walliams joined the judging panel for series 6 of Britain's Got Talent for 2012.
Born in Merton, southwest London, on 20 August 1971 to Peter, a London Transport engineer, and Kathleen Williams, a lab technician, Williams was brought up in Banstead, Surrey.[citation needed] His parents appeared on The Friday Night Project when he was the guest star on the show. He was educated at Collingwood Boys' School in Wallington, Surrey, (now Collingwood School) and the independent Reigate Grammar School (where he was a contemporary of Robert Shearman).[citation needed] He was a member of the National Youth Theatre, where he met Matt Lucas.[citation needed] Walliams studied drama at the University of Bristol from 1989 to 1992, one year below Simon Pegg.[citation needed]
