Robert Hughes: The Business of Art. Damien Hirst is all hype
At Sothebys an anonymous bidder bought a bull in a tank of formaldehyde for £10.3million. The worlds most expensive cut of beef was cooked up, inevitably, by the artist Damien Hirst, whose Beautiful Inside My Head Forever sale of 223 new works fetched £111.5million, a record for an auction dedicated to one artist. The illustrious Australian art critic Robert Hughes, however, isnt buying the hype.

Michael Landy - artist talk - June 2011
Michael Landy is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs), a group of artists who achieved critical fame for their shock tactics and use of everyday materials in the 1990s. Landy is known especially for his performance and installation Break Down 2001, in which he systematically destroyed all his personal possessions. His work examines what we value and what we discard, consumerism and waste, and human labour and its worth. In this talk, he discusses his practice and his works in the John Kaldor Family Collection at the Art Gallery of NSW. www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au Michael Landy also mentions his upcoming work in association with Kaldor Public Art Projects - kaldorartprojects.org.au

Liam Gilick Interview
Liam Gillick (born 1964, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire) is a British artist living in London and New York. He is often associated with the artists included in art critic and curator Nicolas Bourriaud's 1996 exhibit Traffic,[1] which first introduced the term Relational Art. These artists include Rirkrit Tiravanija, as Claire Bishop states, "Bourriaud deems them both to be paradigmatic of "relational aesthetics." [2] He was also in Bourriaud's 2002 exhibition ""Touch: Relational Art from the 1990s to Now"" at the San Francisco Art Institute.[3]. In 2009, Gillick represented Germany in the Giardini Pavilions of the Venice Biennale.[4] Together with Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Angela Bulloch and Henry Bond he was, "the earliest of the YBAs"[5]—the Young British Artists who dominated British art during the 1990s.

Rachel Whiteread - Is it art?
Rachel Whiteread, CBE (born 20 April 1963) is a British artist, best known for her sculptures, which typically take the form of casts, and first woman to win the Turner Prize. Whiteread is one of the so-called Young British Artists, and exhibited at the Royal Academy's Sensation exhibition in 1997. She is probably best known for Ghost, a large plaster cast of the inside of a room in a Victorian house, and for her resin sculpture for the empty plinth in London's Trafalgar Square. source: wikipedia

Kevin McCloud's Grand Tour of Europe
The Grand Tour was undertaken by young British aristocrats, artists and architects. The tradition began in the 16th century and gained popularity in the 17th century. The Grand Tourists would spend two to four years travelling around Europe, broadening their horizons, learning about language, architecture, geography and culture. This four-part series sees the ever-popular Kevin McCloud (Grand Designs) following in the footsteps of the most notorious aristocrats, artists and architects of the Grand Tour. Clambering in, on and amongst the greatest buildings, ruins and cities in Europe, Kevin uncovers the dark underbelly of the Tour in the shady alleys and drinking dens along its route, and explores the Tours lasting legacy. Kevin charts how each age pursued both the sacred and the profane in their travels abroad. Starting with the earliest 17th century travellers in northern Italy, charting the high point of the Tour in the 18th century in Florence and Rome then working his way through Naples and ancient Greece, Kevins journey ends with the last Grand Tourists of the early 19th century in the Alps. Climbing up buildings in harnesses, snaking through mountain passes and recreating the meals they took en route, and taking along his own sketchbook in which to draw the sites, Kevin travels as they travelled and revels in the sights, sounds, tastes and smells that changed the way Britain lived.

“Take Your Medicine” is the second single off Transfer’s debut album,“Future Selves,” slated for a September 19th release on Cool Green Recordings/Mascot Label Group. The video is Directed by Nader Husseini and produced/edited by Amy Grieshaber. Radium/Reel FX turnkeyed the spot.
The team used After Effects as the main compositing software. They combined the 2D drawings and paintings and 3D animation and digital effects into a single space in order to create a highly textured look. In addition to lighting and compositing the CG characters and props in Maya, the team used Maya Toon, Maya Hair and Maya nCloth, manipulating and merging techniques not typically used in the studio’s CG pipeline. Pre-compositing 3D components in Nuke ensured an efficient workflow. These files were also color-corrected and incorporated into the 2D environments in After Effects. Using Maya Paint FX in conjunction with cloth simulations and digital effects added to the video’s unique style.

Ann-Margret - I Just Don't Understand (RCA Victor 7894)
fliped with ''I Don't Hurt Anymore'' issued on RCA Victor in 1961
http://www.ann-margret.com/
Born Ann-Margret Olsson, 28 April 1941, Stockholm, Sweden
Actress/singer/dancer/entertainer: best known for Bye Bye Birdie and Viva Las Vegas. Nominated for best supporting actress in Carnal Knowledge and best actress in Tommy
Born in Sweden but adopted by America
The family moved to Valsjobyn when A-M was still a little baby. This is a little village of about 150 people located in the mountains in the county of Jamtland. It is 4 miles east of the border of Norway. A-M is named after a Swedish swimming star her mother admired. She has no brothers or sisters
She came to the United States with her mother when she was five, settling in Wilmette, Illinois (north of Chicago). A-M's father who had come to America previously, greeted them
Ann-Margret has dazzled screen and stage audiences. With her film debut in Frank Capra's final classic, "Pocketful of Miracles" in 1962 to the recent Oliver Stone directed "On Any Sunday" with Al Pacino, Ann-Margret's film career has spanned four decades. Displaying a versatility that few actresses can match has earned her love and admiration, not just for her beauty and her legend but also for herself
Ann-Margret Olsson becomes Ann-Margret. George Burns propels her into national prominence in Las Vegas.
Her meteoric rise to stardom begins with a LIFE Magazine cover story from 11 January 1963
See http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Boulevard/5000/am-life630111.jpg
Her early film career incls. "Pocketful of Miracles," "State Fair," "Bye Bye Birdie," "Viva Las Vegas" with Elvis Presley, "Stagecoach," and "The Cincinnati Kid." Her fairytale marriage to Roger Smith. TV Specials, record releases, Las Vegas nightclub act, and national recognition as a "superstar sex symbol" punctuate Ann-Margret's life in the fast paced sixties
In '72, husband Roger started producing all of A-M's stage shows. At 12:30 at night while doing her 12th show (in 6 nights) at the Sahara Hotel in Lake Tahoe on Sunday, September 10th, A-M fell 22 feet on stage. Her injuries included numerous bones in the face above an eye which were broken or fractured; jaw broken in two places; left arm broken; knee injured. Dr. Frank Ashley performs a 5-hour operation at UCLA Medical Center. Roger gives A-M a 20-karat diamond ring. Reports say she lapsed into a 3-day coma
A-M does a remarkable comeback opening at the Las Vegas Hilton on Tuesday, November 28th with the 'AM/PM' show. A-M picks up the nickname of 'Slugger' since she proved her strength recovering from her accident.
The Seventies truly defined Ann-Margret as an actress with Academy Award nominations for her work in "Carnal Knowledge", and "Tommy." The accident was a near brush with death and it almost ended her career but following her live performances draw record crowds in the Orient, Las Vegas and Miami. Her body of work expands with more films, TV Specials and awards
This is the decade in which Ann-Margret grows up. The eighties begin with her winning her first Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year Award. She tours the country with her Vegas act. Her film career is full speed ahead and she stars in her first of several critically acclaimed TV Dramas, and is nominated for three Best Actress Emmy's. However, her husband Roger is stricken with Myasthenia Gravis, and Ann-Margret is thrust into the toughest role of her career... she's in charge of her career and Roger's battle to survive.
A new, mature Ann-Margret emerges in the nineties. Roger's health stabilizes and new opportunities abound. She performs live at the Radio City Music Hall. She tackles new characters in TV Film Dramas and receives renewed acclaim for her acting. She films two classics: "Grumpy Old Men," and its sequel, "Grumpier Old Men" with Walter Mathau, Jack Lemmon and Sophia Loren. Ann-Margret just gets better and better
In 2001 she starred in the touring production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is playing the lead role of Miss Mona Stangley, indomitable madam of the multi-storied Chicken Ranch brothel
She really has made a whole raft of movies - and records. Add multi -TV appearances incl. mini-series. Here's a reminder of some of the best movie roles:
Emily Porter - State Fair - 62 Kim - Bye Bye Birdie - 63 Rusty Martin - Viva Las Vegas - 64 aka Love in Las Vegas Melba - The Cincinnati Kid - 65 Laurel - Bus Riley's Back in Town - 65 Dallas - Stagecoach - 66 Kelly Olsson - The Swinger - 66 Bobbie - Carnal Knowledge - 71 Nora Walker Hobbs - Tommy - 75
Oh, Jody Dvorak in Kitten with a Whip - 64 seems to have attracted a lot of attention
On TV in biopics, she's portrayed Pamela Harriman and Diane Borchardt, then the part of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire - 84. Appeared in the That's Dancing! compilation - 85
Examples of her recordings:
And Here She Is Ann-Margret's first long-player from RCA, 1961. Jazzy orchestra conducted by Marty Paich.

euronews le mag - 'Anticipation' exhibition for young artists
London art curator Kay Saatchi has brought together 21 young artists for the 'Anticipation' exhibition. The former wife of Charles Saatchi teamed up with the former editor of ArtReview Catriona Warren and British curator Robert Dingle. Artists were picked for their potential to create a body of thought-provoking work for many years to come. The exhibition provides a showcase for the young artists, with all the proceeds from their work going into their own pockets.... www.euronews.net

HOW TO BE - Starring Robert Pattinson (US DVD Trailer)
In HOW TO BE, the young British sensation Robert Pattinson stars as Art, an aspiring musician stuck in a rut. Twenty-something Art is a supermarket worker who has just been dumped by his girlfriend and is forced to move back home to live with his emotionally distant parents. Art is hopeless and depressed until he discovers the best-selling self-help book It's Not Your Fault and spends his inheritance money to hire the book's oddball author, Dr. Levi Ellington, as his live-in life coach to get him through his quarter-life crisis and help him be more normal. Pattinson reaches new heights as an actor as he impressively embodies both Art's self-pitying side and his droll, hilarious wit. The actor also performs on the film's pop-rock soundtrack -- a collection of original songs and classics by artists including The Roches, Captain Beefheart and Love. His performance in HOW TO BE earned the young star Best Actor accolades at the Strasbourg International Film Festival, while debuting director Oliver Irving received the Audience Award at the New Orleans Film Festival. Amanda Bell of Examiner.com called the film completely entrancing and beautiful, adding, Robert Pattinson's character becomes someone you just want to reach out and hug. HOW TO BE's sterling cast also includes Rebecca Pidgeon (The Spanish Prisoner, TV's The Unit) and Michael Irving (Ruth Rendell Mysteries) as Art's parents, Powell Jones (Anna Karenina), Alisa Arnah (Wallander, Jane Eyre) and newcomers Mike Pearce ...

Jake and Dinos Chapman - Th Grimm Brothers
Chapman brothers - Jake and Dinos - have become synonymous with controversial art, often having their work labelled as vulgar and offensive. But despite the labels and occasional spats with the press the Chapman brothers have been hugely important to British art and were nominated for the Turner prize in 2003. Here, Crane.tv talk to the brothers about their latest exhibition at the White Cube gallery, which for the first time they worked separately on, and finds out their message for fellow YBA Tracey Emin. Address: 48 Hoxton Square, London, N1 6PB and 25-26 Mason's Yard, London, SW1Y 6BU www.jakeanddinoschapman.com

Sarah Lucas
Sarah Lucas born 1962 Article provided by Grove Art Online www.groveart.com English sculptor, installation artist and photographer. She studied in London at the Working Men's College (19823), London College of Printing (19834), and Goldsmiths' College (19847) and emerged as one of the major Young British Artists during the 1990s, with a body of highly provocative work. In the early 1990s she began using furniture as a substitute for the human body, usually with crude genital punning. In works such as Bitch (table, t-shirt, melons, vacuum-packed smoked fish, 1995; see exh. cat., 1996, pp. 545), she merges low-life misogynist tabloid culture with the economy of the ready-made, with the intention of confronting sexual stereotyping. As with earlier works in which she had displayed enlarged pages from the Sunday Sport newspaper, the intention was to attack stereotyping on its own ground, using a base language given critical viability by an affinity to previous movements such as Situationism and Surrealism. She is also known for her confrontational self-portraits, such as Human Toilet Revisited (1998; London, Tate), a colour photograph in which she sits on a toilet smoking a cigarette. In her solo exhibition The Fag Show (London, Sadie Coles, 2000), she explored her obsession with cigarettes as a material for art, suggesting the connection between smoking and sexually obsessive activity. Self-portrait with Cigarettes (2000; London, Saatchi Gal.), a self-portrait made with ...
