POLISH LITHUANIAN COMMONWEALTH
...... commonwealth.pl . The Polish--Lithuanian Commonwealth was one of the largest and most populous countries in 17th-century Europe. Its political structure—that of a semi-federal, semi-confederal aristocratic republic—was formed in 1569 by the Union of Lublin, which united the Crown of the Polish Kingdom and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and lasted in this form until the adoption of the Constitution of May 3, 1791. The Commonwealth covered not only the territories of what is now Poland and Lithuania, but also the entire territory of Belarus and Latvia, large parts of Ukraine and Estonia, and part of present-day western Russia (Smolensk and Kaliningrad oblasts). Originally the official languages of the Commonwealth were Polish and Latin (in the Kingdom of Poland) and Ruthenian and Lithuanian (in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania). The creation of the Commonwealth by the Union of Lublin in 1569 was one of the signal achievements of Sigismund II Augustus, last monarch of the Jagiellon dynasty, in an effort to preserve the monarchy by adopting elective monarchy. His death in 1572 was followed by a three-year interregnum during which adjustments were made to the constitutional system that effectively increased the power of the nobility and established a truly elective monarchy.

The Genius in All of Us David Shenk, Author, The Forgetting, Data Smog and The Immortal Game Shenk presents a compelling case against the notion of genetic giftedness. Forget everything you think you know about genes, talent and intelligence. In recent years, some scientific evidence has emerged suggesting a completely new paradigm: not talent scarcity, but latent talent abundance. Integrating cutting-edge research from a wide swath of disciplines - cognitive science, genetics, biology, child development - Shenk reveals a highly optimistic new view of human potential.

Is the commonwealth a colonial relic?-Africa Today-06-05-2012
Critics allege that the Commonwealth is a colonial relic, a neo-imperial conspiracy and nothing but ''a collection of not very important states brought together by accident of having been colonized by Britain''. After the Second World War, many countries sought their independence. Soon after attaining independence in 1947, India declared that it wished to adopt a republican constitution, but also wanted to remain within the Commonwealth. This was accepted in the London Declaration agreed at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 1949, provided that India accepted King George VI as "the symbol of the free association of the independent Member Nations and as such Head of the Commonwealth". Over the next two decades, British rule ended in many parts of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Pacific. With a few exceptions (such as Myanmar, formerly known as Burma), the newly independent countries joined the Commonwealth and recognized King George VI and, following his death, Queen Elizabeth II, as Head of the Commonwealth. Forms (excerpt)
http://www.memo.tv/forms
Forms is an ongoing collaboration between visuals artists Memo Akten and Quayola, a series of studies on human motion, and its reverberations through space and time. It is inspired by the works of Eadweard Muybridge, Harold Edgerton, Étienne-Jules Marey as well as similarly inspired modernist cubist works such as Marcel Duchamp’s “Nude Descending a Staircase No.2″. Rather than focusing on observable trajectories, it explores techniques of extrapolation to sculpt abstract forms, visualizing unseen relationships – power, balance, grace and conflict – between the body and its surroundings.
The project investigates athletes; pushing their bodies to their extreme capabilities, their movements shaped by an evolutionary process targeting a winning performance. Traditionally a form of entertainment in todays society with an overpowering competitive edge, the disciplines are deconstructed and interrogated from an exclusively mechanical and aesthetic point of view; concentrating on the invisible forces generated by and influencing the movement.
The source for the study is footage from the Commonwealth Games. The process of transformation from live footage to abstract forms is exposed as part of the interactive multi-screen artwork, to provide insight into the evolution of the specially crafted world in which the athletes were placed.
The video installation is currently being exhibited at the National Media Museums ’In The Blink of an Eye’ Exhibition, 9th March – 2nd September, 2012, alongside classic images by photographers as diverse Harold Edgerton, Eadweard Muybridge, Roger Fenton, Richard Billingham and Oscar Rejlander as well as historic items of equipment, films and interactive displays.

Welcome to the Anthropocene
In June 2012, "Welcome to the Anthropocene"—a film about the state of the planet—opened the UN's Rio+20 summit on sustainable development. The summit was the largest UN meeting to date.
A 3-minute journey through the last 250 years of our history, from the start of the Industrial Revolution to the Rio+20 Summit. The film charts the growth of humanity into a global force on an equivalent scale to major geological processes.

The new Design Museum
The Design Museum will move to the former Commonwealth Institute building in Kensington, scheduled to open to the public in late 2014. Designs for the site have been produced by two of the world’s most innovative architectural practices: John Pawson has redesigned the interior of the Grade 2* listed building and OMA has planned the surrounding residential development.

Commonwealth Bank - Vision for 2013, we're improving customer service
Delivering customer satisfaction beyond 2010 requires us to drive change and continually innovate beyond what the market dictates or our customers expect. Innovating through the digital platform is one way we can make this happen. Looking to the next 3 years, the key trends we see shaping banking digital innovation are; Customisation: Enabling our customers to have a personalised experience with the bank Continuously connected: Providing immediacy and allowing our customers to access the bank and their financial information in real time Cross platform functionality: Allowing our customers to access & move information across any digital device Centralised financial management: Giving our customers to access all their financial information in one place Community: Connecting our customers and facilitating the exchange of experience and advice This video piece showcases a series of scenarios that showcases how we, as one of Australias leading banks, can bring these to life and give our customers an experience and level of service that exceeds all expectations.
