Rupert Graves as Alec Scudder in Maurice [1987] - 1 - the movie in full
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - This upload is meant for evaluation purposes only. If you like it buy the original and support the creators. This is the film that made Rupert Graves's career. It did more, it made him into a gay icon. Even now, pictures of Graves taken from "Maurice" still adorn gay bedrooms and can be found on gay sites all over the World Wide Web. But many people outside the gay community have not seen the film, or even heard of it. So here is the review / synopsis, taken from the Rupert Graves Online website. [www.rupert-graves.com "Merchant Ivorys faithful adaptation of EM Forsters novel "Maurice", is the story of a young mans search for love and happiness in the restrained atmosphere of Edwardian middle class society. What confounds Maurices' life is that he is homosexual. At Cambridge Maurice, played by James Wilby falls in love with another undergraduate Clive Durham (Hugh Grant). Clive aspires to the higher ideals of Plato and insists that their relationship remain platonic and Maurice who at this stage is innocent and adoring, agrees. Their happiness lasts several years until Clive, heir to a country seat and mindful of his political aspirations conforms to social and family pressure and marries. Maurice is devestated, feeling increasing lonely and isolated, we see him struggle against his fate. First he seeks help from a family friend Dr Barry (Denholm Elliot)who neither understands Maurices plight nor does he wish to, and encourages him to ...

Maurice 1987 Movie, love scene between James Wilby & Rupert Graves.
A clip from James Ivory's masterpiece, Maurice by EM Forster. One of my favorite movies of all time, passionate, brilliant. Music by Richard Robbins, who was nominated for 2 Oscars, Remains of the Day & Howards End. He won Best Score for Maurice at the Venice Film Festival. The music is Called - Clive & Ann. this clip was re-edited, I slowed the scene down and took the music from another part of the movie. When making this film this was the first scene James Wilby & Rupert Graves filmed. Alec Scudder ____ "Now we shant ever be parted, It's finished"

Foster wrote his novel "Maurice"in 1912, kept it a secret except for [s]elected friends and wrestled with it for quite a long time. His friend Lytton Strachey wrote him a letter criticising the happy ending, for Foster himself the big reason to write the book. Maurice and Scudder didn't have anything in common except carnal lust, Lytton Strachey said, such an affair could not last more than three months. Another friend, DH Lawrence, later used Foster's invention of a love relationship between a member of the upper-middle class and one of the lower classes in his Lady Chatterley's Lover and got it right. Foster didn't. Class, class, class, that was the real issue the class obsessed Foster wrestled with. His biggest problem with "Maurice" was how to depict Scudder. What were Scudder's motives, his feelings, his emotions? What was his upbringing? Foster himself admitted he couldn't get that right and more or less gave up on it. And indeed, in the book Scudder is a rather flat, one dimensional person. He has obviously fallen in love with Maurice, head over heels. Standing outside in the rain watching the bedroom window of the beloved, secretely stalking him, everyone who has ever been in love knows the signs. But Foster somehow was not able to develop them. It is a major flaw in the book. The filmmakers did develop them, in a small ...

Maurice (1987) - Mr. Ducie Gives the 'Talk'
11-year-old Maurice Hall takes a crash course in sexuality. Take note of how Ducie refers to sex as "life's sacred mystery" and yet runs back to erase those "infernal designs" on the shore. Featuring Simon Callow and Orlando Wells. All intellectual properties belong to their respective holders. I claim fair use for educational purposes.
