Wat Chedi Ngam Ruins - Sukhothai, Thailand
Wat Chedi Ngam is in the heart of the ancient ruins of Sukhothai in Northern Thailand. Sukhothai was the First Capital Kingdom of Thailand ruled by nine Royal Kings during 1238 to 1438. You must hike up a steep hill to get to the chedi, but the view is gorgeous with temple tops gracing the tops of trees. Enjoy! A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

SIAM A Glorious Kingdom Of The Past - Thailand
The magnificent history of Siam began in 1253, when several small kingdoms in the north of the country united and thus laid the foundation for the first true kingdom of the Thai people. Bangkok, the present metropolis and capital of Thailand, first attained importance at the end of the 18th century under the newly developed Chakri Dynasty, when it became their seat of government. The epoch of the Chakri kings still exists today and although the great palace district no longer serves as the king's residence, it is still one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bangkok. Wat Suthat is located in the eastern district of old Angkok and is one of the city's oldest temples. Construction of the temple began shortly after the coronation of the first Chakri monarch, King Rama The First. Prior to its completion during the reign of King Rama The Third, three other kings were responsible for the creation of the Buddhist sanctuary that covers an area of more than 40000 square metres. For more than four centuries, Ayutthaya was one of the most prosperous royal cities in Indochina prior to the time when the internal power struggles of various rival members of the country's royal family led to the city's decline. Wat Mahathat, one of the oldest sanctuaries of the ancient capital, has one of the tallest and most impressive towers in Ayutthaya. King Boromaracha The Second had the temple built in honor of his two brothers, who had killed each other in a bitter and bloody struggle for ...

Chiang Mai Thailand
Our days in Chiang Mai were far too short to see all that there is here. See our videos and photos at cambodia.ournews.mobi The highlight of our stay was the elephant ride. Chiang Mai was the capital of the kingdom of Lanna (the kingdom of a million fields), which enjoyed a golden age throughout the 15th century. During this age the powerful inland kingdom came to control most of what now constitutes northern Thailand, north-western Laos, the eastern Shan states of Burma and Xishuangbanna in southern Yunnan. We stayed at the Suriwongse Hotel, 110 Changklan Road, which was a lovely old hotel and the people were very friendly. And we visited Bramrungburi, Moon Muang, Boon Reongrit, Chang Lor Rajmankia Road, Changklan Plaza, Mai Market, Muang Wat, Chedi Luang as well as Long Neck, Doi Inthanon, Goldne Triangle, Akha, Yao, Village, Kad Klang Wiang, Sirithqrn, Wachiratharn, Falls. THE EMERALD BUDDHA
The Emerald Buddha Historical sources indicate that the statue surfaced in northern Thailand in the Lannathai kingdom in 1434. One account of its discovery tells that lightning struck a pagoda in a temple in Chiang Rai, after which, something became visible beneath the stucco. The Buddha was dug out, and the people believed the figurine to be made of emerald, hence its name. King Sam Fang Kaen of Lannathai wanted it in his capital, Chiang Mai, but the elephant carrying it insisted, on three separate occasions, on going instead to Lampang. This was taken as a divine sign and the Emerald Buddha stayed in Lampang until 1468, when it was finally moved to Chiang Mai, where it was kept at Wat Chedi Luang. The Emerald Buddha remained in Chiang Mai until 1552, when it was taken to Luang Prabang, then the capital of the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang. Some years earlier, the crown prince of Lan Xang, Setthathirath, had been invited to occupy the vacant throne of Lannathai. However, Prince Setthathirath also became king of Lan Xang when his father, Photisarath, died. He returned home, taking the revered Buddha figure with him. In 1564, King Setthathirath moved it to his new capital at Vientiane.[1] Ubosoth outside decorations closeup In 1779, the Thai General Chao Phraya Chakri put down an insurrection, captured Vientiane and returned the Emerald Buddha to Siam, taking it with him to Thonburi. After he became King Rama I of Thailand, he moved the Emerald Buddha with great ceremony to its ...

Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep - Thailand
A visit to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep is a must if you are going to be anywhere near Chiang Mai in Thailand. Legend has it that a white elephant with a Buddha relic strapped to its back climbed up Doi Suthep mountain, trumpeted 3 times then turned around 3 times and died. The King of Lanna Kingdom took this as a sign. The first chedi was founded in 1383 in the place the elephant died. The view from the temple grounds is amazing from on top of the mountain, with views of Chiang Mai on clear days.
