Honoring Mel Brooks (1)
December 6, 2009 he Kennedy Center Honors which included tributes to Robert DeNiro, Dave Brubeck, Mel Brooks, Grace Bumbry, and Bruce Springsteen. The tribute to Mel Brooks combined singing, dancing, and wonderfully over-the-top humor. Carl Reiner perhaps captured the essence of Mel Brooks when he said that Mel was gifted with a genius brain and brilliantly uncensorable tongue. The tributes to Mel Brooks continued with clips from his old movies including History of the World, Part I and Young Frankenstein. (Nice to see clips of Bea Arthur and Cloris Leachman too!). Musical tributes included a medley of Mel Brooks' hits. Frank Langella invited Obama to "hope for the best, expect the worst" (The Twelve Chairs). Martin Short sang about Blazing Saddles. Jack Black sang about Men In Tights. Harry Connick Jr. then sang about High Anxiety (could someone get me down from here please?) Richard Kind sang and danced about the Inquisition. The Mel Brooks tributes culminated in satirically irreverent performances from The Producers. Glee's Matthew Morrison kicked off with a lyrical rendition of Springtime for Hitler, showing that he can tap dance as well as he can sing. Gary Beach reprised his role as the hilariously flamy Hitler. Matthew Broderick reprised his role as Leo Bloom, ending with a choral rendition of Til Him.

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein - "Whose Brain Was it?"
One of my favorite scenes from "Young Frankenstein" starring Gene Wilder, Terri Garr, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman and Cloris Leachman. Mel Brooks directed this now classic spoof of the novel Frankenstein and is based on the premise that Frankenstein has passed away and left behind his work to his grandson who also happens to be a neurosurgeon. When he arrives in Transylvania he discovers his hunchback assistant, "Igor", a hot lab assistant, Inga (Terri Garr) and the maid, Frau Blucher-iiihhhl. Dr. Frankenstein finds the work of his grandfather's written in his journals and attempts to recreate his experiments. However, the assistant Igor, destroys the brain of the genius Frankenstein wanted by dropping it accidentally. In haste, Igor quickly grabs the brain of an abnormal human. When Dr. Frankenstein inquires to Igor who's brain he gave him, it goes as follows: Dr. Frederick Frankenstein discovers his creation has come to life but it is appears to be unintelligent. The monster has caused serious problems in the lab as it escapes. He's being comforted by his assistant Inga as he calls over Igor, calms down a bit for Inga and begins the dialogue. Dr. F: "Would you mind telling me whose brain I did put in?" Igor: "And you wont' be angry?" Dr. F: "I will NOT-be-angry." Igor: "Abby...someone." Dr. F : "Abby Someone..?"
