Meet David Dorman
Dorman David was born October 27, 1937 in Houston, Texas. In 1960 he moved to San Francisco, and while there, worked in a rare book store. During this time Dorman began a correspondence with Aldus Huxley, who was teaching at Berkeley. In 1961 he returned to Houston and opened the Bookman, Houston's first rare bookstore. There he employed the young Larry McMurtrey, who mined material from the legendary David family for several novels, including Cadillac Jack and Terms of Endearment. By 1968 the Bookman was the premiere Texana store in the state. During the 1960s Dorman also acquired an interest for Texas historical documents. He reprinted an 1883 Texas cookbook and developed techniques and materials that resulted in near-perfect replicas of historic Texas documents. In the 1980s Dorman began making small, but powerful, carvings with rare wood, painting with watercolors and creating decorative handwriting. Over the years Dorman lived in California, Australia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arizona. He eventually moved back to Houston and has worked as an artist and studio instructor at the College of Architecture at the University of Houston. Dorman David produced an autobiographical film in 2000. He operates a web site devoted to increasing visual communication, and is currently exploring the next wave of digital art and video. Dorman is an avid tennis fan and player.

The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
The inaugural Henry Cole Lecture, held at the V&A; Museum in London on 30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum' was delivered by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Transcript:
Mark Jones: The annual Henry Cole lecture has been initiated to celebrate Henry Cole's legacy and to explore the contribution that culture can make to education and society today. It has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the Sackler Centre for arts education, including the Hochhauser Auditorium in which we sit tonight. There could be no one better than Professor Sir Christopher Frayling to give the inaugural Henry Cole Lecture. Christopher is a rare being: an intellectual who is a great communicator; a theorist who has a firm grip on the practical realities of life: a writer who truly and instinctively understands the words of making design and visual communication. As an enormously successful and respected Rector of the Royal College of Art, as Chairman of the Arts Council, and as a member and chair of boards too numerous to mention - but not forgetting the Royal Mint Advisory Committee which has recently been responsible for redesigning the coinage (personal interest) and as by far the longest-serving Trustee of the V&A;, he brings together culture, education and public service in a way which Henry Cole would have approved and admired. So it's more than fitting that he should be giving this first Henry Cole Lecture, 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum'.
CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING:
Thank you very much indeed Mark and thank you very much for inviting me to give this first Henry Cole Lecture. Just how much of an honour it is for me will I hope become clear as the lecture progresses.
Mark, Chairpeople, ladies and gentlemen:
Hidden away in the garden of the South Kensington Museum - now the Madejski Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: 'In Memory of Jim Died 1879 Aged 15 Years, Faithful Dog of Sir Henry Cole of this Museum'. Jim had in fact died on 30 January 1879. He was with Henry Cole in his heyday, as the king of South Kensington - its museums and colleges - and saw him through to retirement from the public service and beyond. And next to this inscription there's another one dedicated to Jim's successor, Tycho, and dated 1885. The dogs are actually buried in the garden. Now we know from Henry Cole's diary that between 1864 and 1879 Jim, who was a cairn terrier, was often to be seen in public at his master's side. In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the Great Exhibition of 1851 just behind the Albert Hall - a statue of Prince Albert by Joseph Durham on a lofty plinth covered in statistics about the income, expenditure and visitor numbers to the Great Exhibition: 6,039,195 to be exact. Cole had been a tireless champion of Prince Albert and according to the Princess Royal (later Empress of Prussia) there was a family saying in Buckingham Palace at the time, invented by Albert himself, that when things needed doing 'when we want steam we must get Cole'. We may therefore assume that when looking at the memorial, Cole was interested in the inscription, the statistics and the likeness of Prince Albert, while Jim was more interested in the possibilities of the plinth. In early 1866 - these are five studies of Jim, an etching by Henry Cole himself of 1864. In early 1866, first thing in the morning, soon after the workmen's bell had rung, Henry and Jim would set forth together from Cole's newly constructed official residence in the Museum (where he moved in July 1863) to tour the building sites of South Kensington - a name which was first invented by Cole when he re-named the museum The South Kensington Museum to describe the new developments happening around Brompton Church. According to 'The Builder' magazine, these two well-known figures would 'be seen clambering over bricks, mortar and girders up ladders and about scaffolding'. Several buildings in the South Kensington Renaissance Revival style were springing up all around them: The Natural History Museum, The College of Science, the extension to this Museum. And on the morning the Bethnal Green Museum opened - 24 June 1872 - Jim showed a healthy distaste for his master's well-known predilection for pomp and

Aldous Huxley And The Brave New World (1958)
Aldous Huxley And The Brave New World (1958)
The goosestepping, the propaganda posters, the wild and raving dictators, the national parades, the show-trials, the gulags were all just a beta test and will never see the light of the luminous sun again. The people (really too polite of a word) in those conditions get too agitated and their bondage's and shackles were too apparent and visible. What is needed is for the sheeple to enjoy their enslavement as Huxley states and how does one do that? You take command of their primitive animal selves and relinquish them from their critical thinking faculties through forced medication such as tap water fluoride, public education that facilitates the creation of "employees" rather than "employers", and getting them on the hamster wheel of cyclical gratification routines. In doing so, they never get inspired themselves to unravel life's deepest mysteries or to reach the self-actualization capstone of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Thus, they are reduced to nothing more but a receptive unit that acts as a progenitor of the beliefs and ideals of the status quo delivered from above and never once in their lifetimes do they come up with an independent thought of their own (in all seriousness most people cannot accomplish this). The family is also increasingly becoming a vestigial quality of our long million(s) year history due to the family being too self-autonomous and interdependent and thus blocking the ability of the state to indoctrinate children at the early ages and of course a desperate citizen is more valuable to the state then the on par citizen (justifies expansion of state powers and socialist doctrines)."Promiscuity is a citizen's duty" Huxley's book declared and to create a zero offspring but sexually active culture, what better then to reverse the sex roles; Man assuming the feminine and woman assuming the masculine which is achieved through unconscious suggestibility within popular media and Marxist women's rights movements. The female mind is governed by emotion first, logic second. The only thing she has ever demanded out of the man is security not honorable behavior. Her evaluation of a man's security is further based upon the prevailing social standards which at this day in age must be made unreachable, patriarchal/oppressive to make her feel entitled to things she has never earned, and must not include parental investment. The woman is made to see that her investment in a man is only centered around her needs which reciprocates back to what the feminist culture and popular media demand out of the man. This part is easy to implement, after all in ancestral times when men went out to hunt food, the women more or less stayed behind and formed social clans or matriarchies. Because logic is not their principle quality and due to their social nature, making women date the loudest and deceiving howlers in the jungle in endless quantities is easy and no offspring is ever created (combats what Huxley highlighted as the overpopulation problem). In turn, they are also more likely to become discouraged by the dating scene and become feminists. Men however are governed by rational principles (or used to) but due to the gamete number disparities between the two sexes, they are much more likely to seek multiple partners. To exploit this further, virginity must become a disease to the man and similar to the situation the women encounters, pornography chiefly and other popular media must set impossible standards for the men to seek out and only depict the women as a sexual outlet rather than a spiritual partner in life. In establishing "vagina worship" the men don't develop permanent bonds with the opposite sex and in instituting the idea of the disposable male, glorifying materialism, and false entitlement, the woman fall into the same trap. Promote to the extremes and the brave new world or ant hive is established. The brave new world in its final stages must also seal its permanence among the global citizens. This is where trans-humanism comes in; its goal is to blend people with nanotechnology and make them more machine-like. By ridding people of their human qualities (whats left) they can become more productive and efficient members of society and consequently those who reject this obvious intrusion on their vessel are left behind and out competed. This is perfectly reflected in socialist H.G Wells book " The Time Machine" where by his fictional future society is divided between the savages living in subterranean caves (the rejects) and the cheerful and reactive civilization living above (similar in qualities to the modern day sheeple). A cashless society with implantable chips (as the Bible prophesied), the eradication of privacy preventing regular conversation, and the sexual gratification cycles mentioned above, would further seal the permanence of the brave new world. Tis is what awaits us all or perhaps a couple of generations from now. Inactivity is compliance, war is peace, freedom is slavery.- published: 13 Aug 2013
