SALT TRAIL
El Albardon (Rescue team of native plants knowledge) and Ala Plastica, joined Kolla Community Organizations, Aboriginal Community Council, to make the experience named SALT TRAIL, an ancestral custom of the original inhabitants of the Andes where the del Plata river basin is born.
“Kolla grandparents used to walk during 8 or 9 days through the Puna with their donkies loaded with corn, potatoes, fruit, medicine plants, and other products, to trade them for salt, hoes, and practice oral narratives.”
A route of approximately 300 Km, through hills, beaches, sandbanks, rivers, pampas and salt pan, between 3000 and 4000 masl.
This and other actions of the local communities of this region, pointing to the consolidation of the process of replevy and confirmation of their culture, live in the elder’s stories, the daily activity of the Puna inhabitants, the use of plants, animal breeding, their knowledge, tradition, beliefs and values.
“Members of Kolla community decided to recover and express this way the life of their culture and claims”
Almost 100% of soybean cultivation in Argentina are genetically handled. The incorporation of new land for export agribusiness fuelled the aggressive advance of agricultural border, very often through violent expulsion of rural families and originary communities’ people. Since 1988 103.000 small farms have disappeared, and every year thousands of families migrate from countryside to urban periphery. Woods and native forests have disappeared under the aggressive advance of agricultural border. Only in the province of Salta (Argentina) annual deforestation average triplicates world average.
