The stars of Comedy Central's new show 'Workaholics' play post-college slackers who would rather have fun than be responsible. In real life, they started out doing comedy online, got tapped to do a series and film in the house they really live in. (April

Alanis Morissette - All I Really Want
Alanis Morissette - All I Really Want Lyrics Do I stress you out My sweater is on backwards and inside out And you say how appropriate I don't want to dissect everything today I don't mean to pick you apart you see But I can't help it There I go jumping before the gunshot has gone off Slap me with a splintered ruler And it would knock me to the floor if I wasn't there already If only I could hunt the hunter And all I really want is some patience A way to calm the angry voice And all I really want is deliverance Do I wear you out You must wonder why I'm so relentless and all strung out I'm consumed by the chill of solitary I'm like Estella I like to reel it in and then spit it out I'm frustrated by your apathy And I am frightened by the corrupted ways of this land If only I could meet the Maker And I am fascinated by the spiritual man I am humbled by his humble nature What I wouldn't give to find a soulmate Someone else to catch this drift And what I wouldn't give to meet a kindred Enough about me, let's talk about you for a minute Enough about you, let's talk about life for a while The conflicts, the craziness and the sound of pretenses Falling all around...all around Why are you so petrified of silence Here can you handle this? Did you think about your bills, your ex, your deadlines Or when you think you're gonna die Or did you long for the next distraction And all I need know is intellectual intercourse A soul to dig the hole much deeper And I have no concept of time ...

Contagion - Life Imitating Art? Or Brainwashing you with Fear?
In Steven Soderbergh's panic-inducing epidemic thriller Contagion, the world is paralyzed by a fast-spreading virus that scientists, including Laurence Fishburne, can't get a bead on. "Someone doesn't have to weaponize the bird flu," he intones in the trailer. "The birds are doing that." As if Contagion wasn't already a hypochondriac's nightmare, a UN report this week reveals that the deadly bird flu, or H5N1, has mutated and is spreading overseas. "In Viet Nam, which suspended its springtime poultry vaccination campaign this year, most of the northern and central parts of the country — where H5N1 is endemic — have been invaded by the new virus strain, known as H5N1 - 2.3.2.1," announced the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on Monday. The mutated strain is "resistant to current vaccines," according to TIME, and has spread to new regions partly thanks to migratory patterns in affected fowl. The new H5N1 strain has so far only been found in China and Vietnam, but as the UN report notes — and, as Soderbergh's paranoia thriller illuminates by way of a worst-case scenario, even if fictionalized — the virus has proven its adaptability in the past and, in the years since bird flu's deadly peak in 2006, reported cases have been back on the rise. But don't let that stop you from watching Contagion, in theaters next week (September 9)! Just invest in a face mask and loads of Purell and remember: don't talk to anyone, don't touch anyone, and stay away from ...

ROBSTEN | life imitating art? (Part II)
This video is a follow up to one of my first R/K videos life imitating art? The song is Last Night On Earth by Delta Goodrem. Just to clarify, people often ask me if I think Edward and Bella are similar to Rob and Kristen. Well personally I dont think there are really many similarities. They both seem to be very different from the characters they portray on screen. I do however find it quite interesting that since they are very private and protective of their relationship, we are able to get little glimpses through their subconscious actions, interviews and when they draw parallels between themselves and the characters they play. Making these videos is really just a bit of fun for me and I don't have a clue what I'm doing half the time lol. But I wanted to say a big thankyou to everyone for your comments, love and ongoing support of my videos. I am truly grateful ♥♥♥♥♥

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

Metope - Rebird, Unofficial Music Video
Metope describes his music as "seeming to long for a transformation of their digital being into flesh, and that by bit reduction they attempt to imitate life"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metope_%28producer%29)
The Kobol album containing the song Rebird has been one of my favourite electronic releases for a couple of years now. The delayed but otherwise pretty classic suspense curve aswell as the vital, yet minimal sound catched my attention right from the start.
Inspired by oldshool side scroller and jump'n'runs computer games I felt that a two dimensional movement would reflect the character of the song pretty well.
The songs sound has something really two dimensional and driving which gets underlined by this motion aswell.
The growing complexity and layering of the music is visually described by the emerging environment, which the three abstract lifeforms travel through. Refractive elements and layers have been used to accentuate the songs dissonant parts, and to contrast/refract the initial two dimensional look with something different.
My personal goal was to capture the whole motion as if it was an actual game/level, and thus without a single cut. Colour and gamma shifts were added to intensify the musical changes, where the simpel movement might not have been enough. They also serve to underline the suspense curve.
Finally I would like to add that in my opinion musical cognition or aesthetical perception in general is something really individual. I would never claim that this is the only correct visual interpretation of the song. It's my personal interpretation and I hope it's enjoyable for others too!
The Video was built in the context of the "Clips & Clicks" seminar at Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel which deals with the music video in the 21st century. Thanks to Prof. Tom Duscher, Sven Lütken and all the others giving me feedback!
Technical things:
My personal goal was to program the whole video myself, but instead of ending up with some sort of visualizer I decided to add a "storyline" which should reflect the characteristics of the song. I used c++(www.openFrameworks.cc) together with openGL and many GLSL shaders to achieve the look of the video. The video is not optimized for realtime use but still almost always runs at 30fps.
I experimented with raycasted isosurfaces alot in the past month. A few iterations can be seen here: http://vimeo.com/9597005 here http://vimeo.com/10271624 and http://vimeo.com/11447967.
When the video idea slowly came along I immediately felt that they could maybe help me out in the process of making things more organic.
The biggest advantage of writing your own software as a designer/artist is that you are not bound to the capabilities of software but rather can create anything you have in mind (even though todays creative software is really powerful and great without any doubt). Furthermore I feel like you don't fall into software specific aesthetical patterns as much. (for instance you can often times tell that a video was created using Aftereffects)
Another very big plus is that you can easily reuse the code for live visuals, since it almost runs realtime anyways!
Unfortunately vimeo added some slight artifacts.
Thanks again to Metope of Areal Records for letting me use the song!

Edit:
I reuploaded the video with another compression and put credits at the end.

Oriana Fox

'Tableaux Vivants' is a constellation of imagery, poses and language taken from the history of feminist performance art. Beginning with an imitation of Vanessa Beecroft's 'VB16' (1996), one of the models reaches down and pulls a scroll from her vagina evoking Schneemann's seminal performance 'Interior Scroll' (1975). This mashing up of old and new references continues throughout the piece as the models speak, gesture and dance for the audience. Carole Luby performs a 'Naked Action Lecture' again in homage to Schneemann and in doing so explains the history that the models are enacting. Her lecture quotes Hermine Freed’s film 'Art Herstory' (1974):
"I can become this woman, but how can I relate my life to hers? How much does my time shape my life? Woman may be born free but she is forever tied to her time, place and circumstance…Was I not fulfilling my own fantasies in reliving these images? Role-playing, time-travel, instant space travel, as well as the recreation of history…"

The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
The inaugural Henry Cole Lecture, held at the V&A; Museum in London on 30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum' was delivered by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Transcript:
Mark Jones: The annual Henry Cole lecture has been initiated to celebrate Henry Cole's legacy and to explore the contribution that culture can make to education and society today. It has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the Sackler Centre for arts education, including the Hochhauser Auditorium in which we sit tonight. There could be no one better than Professor Sir Christopher Frayling to give the inaugural Henry Cole Lecture. Christopher is a rare being: an intellectual who is a great communicator; a theorist who has a firm grip on the practical realities of life: a writer who truly and instinctively understands the words of making design and visual communication. As an enormously successful and respected Rector of the Royal College of Art, as Chairman of the Arts Council, and as a member and chair of boards too numerous to mention - but not forgetting the Royal Mint Advisory Committee which has recently been responsible for redesigning the coinage (personal interest) and as by far the longest-serving Trustee of the V&A;, he brings together culture, education and public service in a way which Henry Cole would have approved and admired. So it's more than fitting that he should be giving this first Henry Cole Lecture, 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum'.
CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING:
Thank you very much indeed Mark and thank you very much for inviting me to give this first Henry Cole Lecture. Just how much of an honour it is for me will I hope become clear as the lecture progresses.
Mark, Chairpeople, ladies and gentlemen:
Hidden away in the garden of the South Kensington Museum - now the Madejski Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: 'In Memory of Jim Died 1879 Aged 15 Years, Faithful Dog of Sir Henry Cole of this Museum'. Jim had in fact died on 30 January 1879. He was with Henry Cole in his heyday, as the king of South Kensington - its museums and colleges - and saw him through to retirement from the public service and beyond. And next to this inscription there's another one dedicated to Jim's successor, Tycho, and dated 1885. The dogs are actually buried in the garden. Now we know from Henry Cole's diary that between 1864 and 1879 Jim, who was a cairn terrier, was often to be seen in public at his master's side. In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the Great Exhibition of 1851 just behind the Albert Hall - a statue of Prince Albert by Joseph Durham on a lofty plinth covered in statistics about the income, expenditure and visitor numbers to the Great Exhibition: 6,039,195 to be exact. Cole had been a tireless champion of Prince Albert and according to the Princess Royal (later Empress of Prussia) there was a family saying in Buckingham Palace at the time, invented by Albert himself, that when things needed doing 'when we want steam we must get Cole'. We may therefore assume that when looking at the memorial, Cole was interested in the inscription, the statistics and the likeness of Prince Albert, while Jim was more interested in the possibilities of the plinth. In early 1866 - these are five studies of Jim, an etching by Henry Cole himself of 1864. In early 1866, first thing in the morning, soon after the workmen's bell had rung, Henry and Jim would set forth together from Cole's newly constructed official residence in the Museum (where he moved in July 1863) to tour the building sites of South Kensington - a name which was first invented by Cole when he re-named the museum The South Kensington Museum to describe the new developments happening around Brompton Church. According to 'The Builder' magazine, these two well-known figures would 'be seen clambering over bricks, mortar and girders up ladders and about scaffolding'. Several buildings in the South Kensington Renaissance Revival style were springing up all around them: The Natural History Museum, The College of Science, the extension to this Museum. And on the morning the Bethnal Green Museum opened - 24 June 1872 - Jim showed a healthy distaste for his master's well-known predilection for pomp and

This is so new it's not even on the album. But The Thing is playing it and I think it's my favourite one. This version is just a demo really. I can't wait to try a full band recording. I'd like to have spent more time editing the video but my computer had other plans. Anyway. Enjoy.
