Bird watching: An exciting observation - Ernst Mayr [video]
Visit www.webofstories.com for more inspiring thoughts and life stories of Ernst Mayr. The late German-American biologist Ernst Mayr (1904-2005) was a leading light in the field of evolutionary biology, gaining a PhD at 21. He was also a tropical explorer and ornithologist who undertook an expedition to New Guinea and collected several thousand bird skins. In 1931 he accepted a curatorial position at the American Museum of Natural History. During his time at the museum, at the age of 37, he published his seminal work 'Systematics and Origin of the Species' which integrated the theories of Darwin and Mendel and is considered one of his greatest works.

He also acknowledged that "any recorded differences between human races are probably composed of cultural as well as genetic elements". See: The Biology of Race and the Concept of Equality (2002) by Ernst Mayr" As for Gould, I hope he's roasting in a hot spot in hell and that the cancer that killed him was extremely painful.

Lies about DNA- Mutations, Pop. Gen., and Ernst Mayr
A response to this video: www.youtube.com Is DNA evidence of creationism? Not only "no," but "fuck no." And if lying about the science behind evolution, attempting to dishonestly redefine "mutation" to support your argument, and quote mining are all you've got, then wiping the floor with your video should be cake. Ironically, while almost all creatards spend their time babbling about complexity at some point, there's just a level of complexity to the subjects of life, evolution, and even things like genetic mutation, that they're just not getting. Hence why its so easy for them to look at the subject in terms of dichotomies, and ignore all depth or nuance to Evolution, natural selection, or genetics, or hell, the kind of mutations that take place in evolution. Simply not being knowledgeable about a given topic is excuseable, absolutely. But, Seven, assuming that you knew what was going on without having picked up a single primary source on the subject was mistake #1. Making/uploading your video full of lies, fallacies, and otherwise misinformation was mistake #2. Your video might be convincing to people who know nothing about the Biological sciences, but not to people who do. Given the namesake of this channel, DNA is especially dear to me, and for intruding in my field with your ignorance, I'm going to call you on all of your bullshit in this video.

Island Evolution: Skipping Lemur
Verreaux's Sifaka, an indri lemur native to Madagascar, is one of the more peculiar and less widely known members of the primate order. It makes large leaps between trees, but even more amazingly, it skips along sideways on two legs while moving around on the ground. Perhaps the inspiration for Tigger? Island environments such as Madagascar, the Galapagos, and Oceania produce many interesting and unique species via genetic drift and natural selection as they adapt to their new environment, and slowly become incapable of breeding with their mainland counterparts. Ernst Mayr called this process "peripatric speciation". From the Primate segment (part 1) of the BBC documentary "Cousins". Excerpt: However, mathematical population geneticists mainly deny that natural selection leads to optimization of any useful kind. The next evolutionary synthesis: Jonathan BL Bard (2011)
Excerpt: We now know that there are at least 50 possible functions that DNA sequences can fulfill [8], that the networks for traits require many proteins and that they allow for considerable redundancy [9]. The reality is that the evolutionary synthesis says nothing about any of this; for all its claim of being grounded in DNA and mutation, it is actually a theory based on phenotypic traits. This is not to say that the evolutionary synthesis is wrong, but that it is inadequate – it is really only half a theory!

Waiting Longer for Two Mutations - Michael J. Behe
Excerpt: Citing malaria literature sources (White 2004) I had noted that the de novo appearance of chloroquine resistance in Plasmodium falciparum was an event of probability of 1 in 10^20. I then wrote that 'for humans to achieve a mutation like this by chance, we would have to wait 100 million times 10 million years' (1 quadrillion years)(Behe 2007) (because that is the extrapolated time that it would take to produce 10^20 humans). Durrett and Schmidt (2008, p. 1507) retort that my number ‘is 5 million times larger than the calculation we have just given’ using their model (which nonetheless "using their model" gives a prohibitively long waiting time of 216 million years). Their criticism compares apples to oranges. My figure of 10^20 is an empirical statistic from the literature; it is not, as their calculation is, a theoretical estimate from a population genetics model.

The next evolutionary synthesis: from Lamarck and Darwin to genomic variation and systems biology
Excerpt: If more than about three genes (nature unspecified) underpin a phenotype, the mathematics of population genetics, while qualitatively analyzable, requires too many unknown parameters to make quantitatively testable predictions [6]. The inadequacy of this approach is demonstrated by illustrations of the molecular pathways that generates traits [7]: the network underpinning something as simple as growth may have forty or fifty participating proteins whose production involves perhaps twice as many DNA sequences, if one includes enhancers, splice variants etc. Theoretical genetics simply cannot handle this level of complexity, let alone analyse the effects of mutation..

“The First Rule of Adaptive Evolution”: Break or blunt any functional coded element whose loss would yield a net fitness gain - Michael Behe - December 2010
Excerpt: In its most recent issue The Quarterly Review of Biology has published a review by myself of laboratory evolution experiments of microbes going back four decades.,,, The gist of the paper is that so far the overwhelming number of adaptive (that is, helpful) mutations seen in laboratory evolution experiments are either loss or modification of function. Of course we had already known that the great majority of mutations that have a visible effect on an organism are deleterious. Now, surprisingly, it seems that even the great majority of helpful mutations degrade the genome to a greater or lesser extent.,,, I dub it “The First Rule of Adaptive Evolution”: Break or blunt any functional coded element whose loss would yield a net fitness gain.(that is a net 'fitness

These following quotes sum up nicely what we can make of the poverty of the fossil record for 'human evolution':
When we consider the remote past, before the origin of the actual species Homo sapiens, we are faced with a fragmentary and disconnected fossil record. Despite the excited and optimistic claims that have been made by some paleontologists, no fossil hominid species can be established as our direct ancestor.

Evolution of the Genus Homo - Annual Review of Earth and Planetary Sciences - Tattersall, Schwartz, May 2009
Excerpt: "Definition of the genus Homo is almost as fraught as the definition of Homo sapiens. We look at the evidence for “early Homo,” finding little morphological basis for extending our genus to any of the 2.5–1.6-myr-old fossil forms assigned to “early Homo” or Homo habilis/rudolfensis."

“Something extraordinary, if totally fortuitous, happened with the birth of our species….Homo sapiens is as distinctive an entity as exists on the face of the Earth, and should be dignified as such instead of being adulterated with every reasonably large-brained hominid fossil that happened to come along.”
Anthropologist Ian Tattersall
(curator at the American Museum of Natural History)
"But what is the basis for the human evolution thesis put forward by evolutionists? It is the existence of plenty of fossils on which evolutionists are able to build imaginary interpretations. Throughout history, more than 6,000 species of ape have lived, and most of them have become extinct. Today, only 120 species live on the earth. These 6,000 or so species of ape, most of which are extinct, constitute a rich resource for the evolutionists to build imaginary interpretations with."

http://www.geneticarchaeology.com/research/Mans_Earliest_Direct_Ancestors_Looked_More_Apelike_Than_Previously_Believed.asp
A 2004 book by leading evolutionary biologist Ernst Mayr stated that "The earliest fossils of Homo, Homo rudolfensis and Homo erectus, are separated from Australopithecus (Lucy) by a large, unbridged gap. How can we explain this seeming saltation? Not having any fossils that can serve as missing links, we have to fall back on the time-honored method of historical science, the construction of a historical narrative.”

Paleoanthropology
Dr. Pilbeam wrote the following regarding the theory of evolution and paleoanthropology (The study of purported bones and artifacts 'presupposed to support' the 'story' of humans evolving from apes) :
"I am also aware of the fact that, at least in my own subject of paleoanthropology, "theory" - heavily influenced by implicit ideas almost always dominates "data". ....Ideas that are totally unrelated to actual fossils have dominated theory building, which in turn strongly influence the way fossils are interpreted"

In regards to the pictures of the supposed ancestors of man featured in science journals and the news media Boyce Rensberger wrote in the journal Science the following regarding their highly speculative nature:
"Unfortunately, the vast majority of artist's conceptions are based more on imagination than on evidence. But a handful of expert natural-history artists begin with the fossil bones of a hominid and work from there…. Much of the reconstruction, however, is guesswork. Bones say nothing about the fleshy parts of the nose, lips, or ears. Artists must cr

Challenging Fossil of a Little Fish
The fish-like creature was hardly more than an inch long, but its discovery in the rocks of southern China was a big deal. The 530-million-year-old fossil, dubbed Haikouella, had the barest beginning of a spinal cord, making it the oldest animal ever found whose body shape resembled modern vertebrates. In the Nature article announcing his latest findings, Jun-Yuan Chen and his colleagues reported dryly that the ancient fish “will add to the debate on the evolutionary transition from invertebrate to vertebrate.” ,,, “Neo-Darwinism is dead,” said Eric Davidson, a geneticist and textbook writer at the California Institute of Technology. He joined a recent gathering of 60 scientists from around the world near Chengjiang, where Chen had found his first fishlike impressions of Haikouella five years ago.

Study reveals new family tree for ray-finned fish - August 2012
Excerpt: The comparative genetic analysis of more than 200 fish species, reported the week of Aug. 6 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, gave an earlier than expected evolutionary birthday to well-known teleost — or ray-finned — fish such as salmon, bass, or tuna.,,,
the analysis shows the great majority of teleost lineages found today appeared much later — in the Cretaceous through the Paleocene, some 120 to 60 million years ago, along with the first mammals and birds.

The Truth About Evolution - Transitional Fossils
Excerpt: Major adaptive radiations provide a formidable challenge to biological evolution.,,, Major adaptive radiations of groups of vertebrates are:
a) Placoderms in the early Devonian. Because they were heavily armored, jawed fish, intermediates and ancestral forms should have fossilized but none are found. No placoderms exist today.
b) Chondrichtyes during the Devonian. They are the cartilaginous fish such as sharks and rays. Intermediates and ancestors are unknown.
c) Agnatha Fish in the Silurian. These were jawless fish with bony skeletons. Intermediates and ancestors should have fossilized but none are found. Most types became extinct but hagfish and lampreys are living jawless fish.
d)Tetrapods in the early Carboniferous. These were many, diverse forms of four-legged amphibians that are believed to have evolved from fish. But no fossilized links to fish have been found and specific interrelationships of the numerous lineages is unknown.
e) Amniotes in the late Carboniferous. Amniotes are characterized by their complex reproductive system and include reptiles, birds and mammals. They are believed to have evolved from amphibians but their ancestry has not been determined from the fossil record.
f) Archosaurs in the late Permian. They were reptiles with diverse sizes and shapes that became extinct in the Triassic. Some as long as six meters have been found.
g ) Dinosaurs in the late Triassic. Dinosaurs include the largest terrestrial animals that have ever lived. Their diversity in size and shape was spectacular. Their ancestry is unknown and specific interrelationships of the numerous types is unknown.
h) Teleosts in the late Cretaceous. These are bony fish approximately 20,000 living species in 35 orders and 409 families. Interrelationships of the higher groups are unknown.
i) Therian mammals in the late Cretaceous and early Tertiary. These are placental and marsupial mammals. When they first appear in the fossil record, they are very diverse and interrelationships are unknown.
j) Birds in the late Cretaceous and early Tertiary. There are estimates of 8900 living species in 166 families and about 27 orders. Fossil evidence is lacking for establishing the interrelationships of the orders of birds.

Part II: Your Favorites: MARIO DEL MONACO
THIS PART IS FOR YOUR FAVORITES! Please discuss this artist with your comments! Mario del Monaco, Tenor (1915-1982) Ruggero Leoncavallo - I Pagliacci Recitar! Mentre preso My personal opinion: The biologist Ernst Mayr once wrote, that he never tried to discuss with a creationist about the evidence of evolution. "If someone don´t allow you to be convinced, there is no chance to convince him!" That´s the crux: Rational arguments puff out against a devoted crowd of believers. If someone is an idol, you always will find cultism (for whatever reasons). Reviewers around the world mainly refused the singing of Mario del Monaco, but his fans always defended him. Moreover del Monaco was his own defender: "Well, some said I sang much too loud. But Michelangelo also was no miniature-painter! Everyone has his own way to express his art - and my art was gigantic just as the art of Michelangelo!" he said in an interview. With this self-assessment and with the claque close behind him, what´s left to say about Mario del Monaco? I´ve made my own experiences with his singing and his recordings. Perhaps, for yourself you may find different conclusions than you may admit when you´re in the crowd. I never saw him live on stage, but I saw him in several TV-emissions (ao "I Pagliacci" in Tokyo 1961 and excerps from "Carmen", the well-known 1959 Bolshoi-Theatre-performance with Irina Arkhipova). But with all what I saw (and more: ...what I heard) I came into conflict. When I first noticed him ...
