Building an economy for the future isn’t something new. The Victorians did it too. Diane Coyle, economist and author, looks back at economic measurement, complex networks and investing on behalf of generations not yet born - all just as important in the 19th century as the 21st. Diane Coyle is a Professor of Economics at the University of Manchester and runs the consultancy Enlightenment Economics. She has been a BBC Trustee for eight years, and was formerly a member of the Migration Advisory Committee and the Competition Commission. She specialises in the economics of new technologies, globalisation, and competition policy, and has worked extensively on the impacts of mobile telephony in developing countries. Diane believes economics is so important that everyone should be able to join in the public debate, and is passionate about communicating the subject. She was previously Economics Editor of The Independent and before that worked at the Treasury and in the private sector as an economist. She has a PhD from Harvard.
