Elloree, South Carolina

Elloree is a town in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 742 at the 2000 census.

History

Trinity Lutheran Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Geography

Elloree is located at 33°32′N 80°34′W / 33.533°N 80.567°W / 33.533; -80.567 (33.5321, -80.5718).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 742 people, 340 households, and 199 families residing in the town. The population density was 772.3 people per square mile (298.4/km²). There were 381 housing units at an average density of 396.5 per square mile (153.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 55.66% White, 43.94% African American, 0.13% Native American, and 0.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.13% of the population.

There were 340 households out of which 21.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.6% were married couples living together, 17.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.2% were non-families. 37.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.89.
