The bracero program (named for the Spanish term bracero, meaning "manual laborer" ("one who works using his arms") was a series of laws and diplomatic agreements, initiated on August 4, 1942, when the United States signed the Mexican Farm Labor Agreement with Mexico. The agreement guaranteed basic humane rights (sanitation, adequate shelter and food), and a minimum wage pay of 30 cents an hour; it also enabled the importation of temporary contract laborers from Mexico to the United States as a momentary war-related clause to supply workers during the early phases of World War II.

Super Clean KO: Welterweight Gabriel Bracero Knocks Out Danny O'Connor In 41 Seconds! Gabriel Bracero (23-2, 4 KOs) brutally knocked out Danny O’Connor (26-3, 10 KOs) in one round at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts. The scheduled 10-rounder was a rematch of their 2011, which ended with Bracero winning a unanimous decision victory. This time, however, the Brooklyn, New York native would counter a lazily-thrown left hand with a perfectly-timed overhand right that flattened O’Connor out immediately Super Clean KO: Welterweight Gabriel Bracero Knocks Out Danny O'Connor In 41 Seconds! Why Braceros? A film demonstrating the Bracero farm labor program to US citizens in California who felt threatened by the influx of workers over the border from Mexico. Imported to do the manual farm labor the locals would not. Local workers had priority in employment over Braceros, but few were ever sent home. Lettuce, citrus, potatoes all picked by hand.

Wade into the river
Through the rippling shallow watter
Steal accross the thirsty border
Bracero
Come bring your hungry bodies
To the golden fields of plenty
From a peso to a penny
Bracero
Oh, welcome to California
Where the friendly farmers
Will take care of you
Come labor for your mother
For your father and your brother
For your sisters and your lover
Bracero
Come pick the fruits of yellow
Break the flowers from the berries
Purple grapes will fill your bellies
Bracero
Oh, Welcome to California
Where the friendly farmers
Will take care of you
And the sun will bite your body
As the dust will draw you thristy
While your muscles beg for mercy
Bracero
In the shade of your sombrero
Drop your sweat upon the soil
Like the fruit your youth can spoil
Bracero
Oh, welcome to California
Where the friendly farmers
Will take care of you
When the weary night embraces
Sleep in shacks that could be cages
They will take it from your wages
Bracero
Come sing about tomorrow
With a jingle of the dollars
And forget your crooked collar
Bracero
Oh, welcome to California
Where the friendly farmers
Will take care of you
And the local men are lazy
And they make too much of trouble
Besides we'd have to pay them double
Bracero
Ah, but if you feel you're fallin'
If you find the pace is killing
There are others who are willing
Bracero
Oh, welcome to California
Where the friendly farmers
