Tarika: Sulawesi
The album Soul Makassar (released in 2001) by Madagascar's Tarika was a special project where their leader Hanitra Rasoanaivo travelled to Sulawesi in Indonesia looking for the ancestral origins of the Malagasy people. It was recorded in London, Bandung and Jakarta with Indonesian musicians guesting. From Hanitra's album notes: "I wrote this song on the second day after I arrived on the island of Sulawesi. From my hotel room window every evening I could see the red sun setting between the light blue sky and the dark blue sea. I was taken on an imaginary trip by the boat of Tanaberu called Amanangapa which supposedly left the south coast of Sulawesi to go to Madagascar. I saw the pinisi, the outrigger canoes crossing the sea in front of me. I felt like I had been taken back home after many years of being lost. I was in a new Antananarivo, an Antananarivo where there was nobody else but my own tribe. The Makassar people say that I am from the Takalar tribe! There was not even one vazaha (white person) in sight at that time. I felt at home."

Tarika: Koba
The album Soul Makassar (released in 2001) by Madagascar's Tarika was a special project where their leader Hanitra Rasoanaivo travelled to Sulawesi in Indonesia looking for the ancestral origins of the Malagasy people. She found many similarities, including a sweet honey and peanut pastry identical to a countryside dish called Koba made in Madagascar. Her song Koba, which Tarika recorded in London, Bandung and Jakarta with Indonesian musicians guesting, became a big hit in Madagascar, and Koba became so fashionable that it ended up being sold in the most expensive hotels in Antananarivo! From Hanitra's album notes: "Koba, in Antananarivo, is a kind of sweet pastry made out of rice flour with some peanuts, honey in the middle, wrapped up in banana leaves and always looking rather black. It is sold in thin slices and quite expensive because of its apparently complex cooking process. It is brought from the countryside to be sold in the city, and nobody knows how to make a koba at home because it is a secret recipe kept by the ones who sell it." "As I was following the process of how a block of cork wood becomes a beautifully detailed head of a Rama puppet, I heard a familiar sound just next to me and everybody came out of their houses with plates in their hands. It was a man with what is called lontong in Javanese food. It was exactly like koba but they have it savoury as well. He slices the koba, pours pieces of chicken in coconut, tomato and chilli sauce, adds crushed ...

Madagascar, the fourth biggest island in the world, can be considered part of the African Continent, although it is unlike any other African country. In this footage I depict the Malagasy People, with their unique and fascinating customs that broadly influence their daily lives, including rice growing and their markets.

Message from Andavadoaka, Madagascar (Malagasy version)
In 2005, 60 million people starved to death - equivalent to the population of Britain. Throughout the world, population increase puts demand on food resources. On the coast of southwest Madagascar, Vezo fishing communities are completely dependent on the sea for their livelihood.
But the marine resources they depend upon are under pressure. Blue Ventures, a UK charity, works in a Vezo village called Andavadoaka. The community and the charity are working together to find ways of securing the fisheries the Vezo depend upon.
In 2005, Andavadoaka established the first community-run marine reserve. This film tells the story of this reserve and their plans for the future.

LA BEAUTÉ DE MADAGASCAR
//music: eddie vedder - tuolumne; regal safari - only; the paper kites - bloom//
One day, I started travelling on my own, then I decided that Madagascar will be my next destination. So, I packed my backpack and began my travel through this magnificent country by foot and Taxi Brousse. On the way I have seen such a beauty of nature with several different landscapes. I have met people, who welcome me warmly, although they did not actually have time to spend with me, and even more, they had no money to invite me for a drink - but they did this anyway. Also, I have found the bad side of the otherwise so beautiful country. Men cut down the rain forest, people suffer from starvation and thirst. Only the corrupt goverment benefits from this business, but nevertheless, a Malagasy told meonce: “Eating rice make us happy” – and they are! So, why do Europeans always complain about everything?!
Enjoy cette beauté!
Misotra,
veloma!
Many thanks to all the staff from ReefDoctor and all the people I met on the road and a big thanks to the Malagasy kids who made me smile every day.

The Real Madagascar
An assimilation of good times on our mission trip in Madagascar. My friend Kusela and I, both nurses from Canada, worked with a general surgeon from Korea in Madagascar for three months. We made it through the first month of culture shock to discover the beauty of this country and mild, friendly nature of Malagasy people. God brought us closer to Him and taught me that His love extends wherever His followers serve HIm. We came home from this journey with a memorable life experience and hopefully lifelong friends. Enjoy!

Madagascar's hero vs terrorist Andry TGV!!!
It slide contains photos which can shock. Sensitive souls to abstain! Madagasikara was taken hostage by the terrorists: Andry Rajoelina and company, the mutineers military of the CAPSAT. It ended in putsch. Scene of terror, brutality, slaughter committed by mutineer support of putschist Andry Rajoelina alias TGV. The malagasy people claims the return of his president Marc Ravalomanana, the return to legality.
