Fallen USMC Staff Sgt. Jason Rogers returns home to Brandon MS.
Staff Sgt. Jason Rogers came home Thursday, April 14 2011, his body borne upon a sea of waving American flags and hands held tightly in salute for the Brandon, MS Marine killed in Afghanistan earlier this month. The following video is MHP Trooper Elmo Townsend's view as his dash cam recorded the escort from Airport Road and along US 80, as hundreds of onlookers gathered to pay their respects. NOTE: Trooper Townsend is NOT driving fast! The video is sped up some to fit the length of the music - the original footage covers about 14 minutes - I thought it was more important to see all of the supporters rather than to see it in real time. Song: Dress Blues by Jason Isbell Rest in Peace, Staff Sgt. Jason Rogers.

Obama Awards Medal Of Honor To Staff Sergeant Jared C. Monti
THE PRESIDENT: Please be seated. Good afternoon, and welcome to the White House. Of all the privileges serving as President, there's no greater honor than serving as Commander-in-Chief of the finest military that the world has ever known. And of all the military decorations that a President and a nation can bestow, there is none higher than the Medal of Honor. It has been nearly 150 years since our nation first presented this medal for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty. And in those nearly 150 years -- through civil war and two world wars, Korea and Vietnam, Desert Storm and Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq, and countless battles in between -- tens of millions of Americans have worn the uniform. But fewer than 3500 have been recognized with the Medal of Honor. And in our time, these remarkable Americans are literally one in a million. And today we recognize another -- Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti. The Medal of Honor reflects the admiration and gratitude of the nation. So we are joined by members of Congress -- including from Sergeant Monti's home state of Massachusetts, Senator John Kerry and Congressman Barney Frank. We're joined by our Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, and leaders from across the Armed Forces. We are joined by the leaders of the Army to which Sergeant Monti dedicated his life: Secretary Pete Geren; our incoming Secretary ...

Medal of Honor: Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta's Parents Interview. (HiDef!)
On October 25, 2007, his unit was attacked by Taliban insurgents, as they walked back to base along a mountain ridge in the Korengal Valley. Armed with AK-47s, rocket-propelled grenades and Soviet-era large machine guns, the Taliban executed an ambush. Defense Department documents revealed that as he returned enemy fire and assisted a wounded soldier in the fighting, he noticed that one of his comrades was missing. Giunta went out to search for Sgt. Josh Brennan, whom he found being dragged away by two Taliban fighters. He pursued the Taliban fighters, killing one of them and inflicting injury on the other. He proceeded to administer first aid to Brennan, who had been shot at least six times; Brennan later died of his wounds. Despite Brennan's death, Giunta's actions gave Brennan's family the opportunity to pay their last respects and give him a proper burial. Rolling Thunder 2010 - Staff Sergeant Tim Chambers
This man stands at attention, holding a salute for the entire four hour parade of motorcycles during Rolling Thunder. He does this every year and has done so since 2002. We met him later and when I thanked him for his service and what he'd done that day he said "See all those guys (veterans) who won't be here next year? They're why I do this."
