Find Your Vocal Range In 1 Minute.m4v
Use this to find your vocal range - it only takes 1 minute. If you sing solo you need to know your range so that you can put songs into keys that suit your voice best. If you sing in a choir, you need to know your range to find the right section of the choir for you eg soprano, alto etc. If you practice singing your vocal range may increase over time. Choir Section vocal ranges are shown in a table at the end of the video so you can see where your vocal range fits in.

Russian Basso Profondo: The Lowest Voices
Here are two short extracts of an exceptional record of Russian choral work (which includes anonymous ancient liturgical chant, popular folk songs, and music by well known Russian choral composers, such as Tchesnokov and Gretchaninov), introducing some of the lowest voices in the world. The two singers here are Vladimir Pasuikov and, with an even lower voice, Yuri Wichniakov, one of the most famous Basso Profondo, who are unique to Russian singing. Their vocal range is at least one octave below the normal bass range (think Paul Robeson). In the first extract the bass hits the low Ab1; in the second the bass hits a G1. Not only do they possess the lowest notes of any choral singer, but the soloists have such full voices that the effect is immediately striking. Enjoy those exceptional samples of the magnificent Russian choral art!

Vocal Range 6 Octaves [Bb0 - Bb6]
Just a bit of fun... Me trying to do a 6 octave scale from Bb6 to Bb0. These are my highest notes (squeaks) and lowest notes (croaks). I can occasionally squeak notes higher than this but I'm not sure I can hear anything lower, let alone vocalise it! I do sing Tenor or Bass and in normal repertoire go up to Bb5 which is the one above Tenor top C. I havent found any songs written that high so interpolate. Eg. End Pity the Child CHESS with a slide up to Bb5. In Bass I sing down to a bottom C, the one below the bass clef and this is my lowest useful note. This is an optional note in Oh Isis and Osiris MAGIC FLUTE.

The Vocal Range of Paul McCartney: A1-G5(-A6)
EDIT: Macca now has a G5, placing him at only one tone away from four octaves of full voice! The G5 can be heard here, from "Soily" live in Los Angeles 1976, at 5:04 into the video: /watch?v=yBYd_pXfQnE&feature;=player_embedded McCartney has a strange voice; despite being a naturally light low tenor with light and easy upper-fourth octave notes he has a very strong low extension and a tendency to inject a lot of chest and grit into his high notes, making him sound rather more like a baritone. Mind you, as Phil Spector once put it: "Paul McCartney has a voice that can do anything." 00:00 Some light, easy A4s and a C5 from "Band On The Run" which showcases Macca's distinct natural tenor sound. 00:20 More light, easy A4s and B4s from a studio rehearsal of "Maybe I'm Amazed" from 1974- compare this to the studio version! 00:46 Extremely light and easy A4s and B4s (and a brief C#5) from the intro of "Jet", studio rehearsal 1974 1:12 Complete contrast, very gritty and heavy A4s and B4s from the intro of the same song, live 1976 1:31 Long A4 from "Tomorrow" 1:42 A4s from "Baby's in Black" 1:49 Very smooth, easy A4 on the difficult "oo" syllable, from "My Love" 1:59 Extremely easy A4 from "Wanderlust"; George Martin rated this as Paul's greatest vocal performance. 2:09 Bb4 from "Got To Get You Into My Life" 2:13 A4 followed by a Bb4 from "No More Lonely Nights" 2:21 Short B4 from "I'm Looking Through You" 2:24 Savage B4 from "Helter Skelter" 2:31 Gritty B4s from "Old Siam, Sir" 2 ...

The Vocal Range of Ville Valo: (B0-)F1-G5(-B♭6)
Ville Valo could be called one of the best low singers in rock music. His distinctive and versatile, bassy baritone voice is really deep and booming, and he has some of the strongest lows I've ever heard in rock music. Valo's high note technique has also improved a lot and his highs are pretty impressive too with him spanning A LOT of range in many performances. 1. 0:00 - Fantastic singing bottoming around short G2s from the legendary "Summer Wine". 2. 0:12 - Two strong G2s from "Love You Like I Do". 3. 0:27 - Strong F2 from Apocalyptica's "Bittersweet" (Lauri Ylönen is the higher voice). 4. 0:35 - Really good choir harmonies from "In Venere Veritas" with solid F2s. 5. 0:42 - Solid E2s from the backing vocals of Cradle of Filth's "Byronic Man". 6. 0:59 - Really good E2s from the intro of "Gone with the Sin". 7. 1:29 - Really strong E2s from the re-recorded version of "It's All Tears (Drown in This Love)". 8. 1:56 - The original version of "It's All Tears (Drown in This Love)" with some of the best lows I've ever heard around that area: EXTREMELY strong and bassy lows bottoming at E♭2s, monstrous! 9. 2:25 - Spoken passage from "Dark Sekret Love" bottoming around D2. 10. 3:10 - Strong sustained C2 from the live version of "Killing Loneliness". 11. 3:23 - Fantastic low passage from "Venus Doom" trailing down to B1. 12. 3:50 - Quick B♭1 from the live version of "The Kiss of Dawn" from the live album Digital Versatile Doom, Valo spans F1-E5(!) during the concert! 13. 4:02 ...

The Vocal Range of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan: (A1-)G2-E♭5(-A5)
Though M. Shadows is known as the primary voice of Avenged Sevenfold, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan's vocals have played a big part in their recordings too. He was always the higher-voiced guy, hitting the higher harmonies in the background, but occasionally getting solo spots too. Sullivan was a tenor with a really good high register. He never got to show his whole range properly, but showcased amazing vocal moments here and there with his band. After Sullivan's death the rest of Avenged Sevenfold wanted to use playbacked vocals of Sullivan, instead of getting anyone else to sing his parts. 1. 0:00 - AC♯3 from "Save Me". 2. 0:04 - A quick C3 from "Necromance Theatre". 3. 0:10 - "Fiction" with Sullivan going down to strong C3. 4. 0:19 - More strong lows from "Fiction", Sullivan goes down to another good C3. 5. 0:34 - Lots of really weird lows from "Mezmer" bottoming around G2 (few C5s there too). 6. 0:58 - Whispered D2s from the alternative studio take of "Critical Acclaim". 7. 1:02 - Really growly lows from "Necromance Theatre" filled with effects, some growled D2s in the passage. 8. 1:10 - Growled A1s from "Necromance Theatre". 9. 1:20 - Time for Sullivan's fantastic high notes (the reason I wanted to make this video): a powerful A4s from "A Little Piece of Heaven", M. Shadows is singing in the beginning (he has noticeably lower voice). 10. 1:37 - An easy B4 from "McFly". 11. 1:45 - An incredible C5 from "Fiction", one of my favourite vocal moments by Sullivan. 12. 1:59 - M ...

Thom Yorke's vocal range
Comments disabled, since this page has become an endless stream of juvenile insults between Radiohead fans and fans of another band. Here is an entirely subjective collection of notes which I think best reflect Thom Yorke's range. While Yorke himself is the first to admit that he's not the greatest technical singer in the world, he has shown impressive range in his work. His voice quality has suffered since the mid 1990s, but, back in the early days, when he was on form, he could belt it out. Yorke was ranked #67 on Rolling Stone magazine's "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" in 2008. Bass notes: 1) E2 from "Skip Divided". 2) F2 from "Bittersweet", Velvet Goldmine soundtrack. 3) G#2 from "I Will". Now for some high notes: 4) Grand E4 from "Street Spirit". 5) G4 from "The Bends". 6) Epic A4 from a certain song... 7) Powerful live B4 from "Stop Whispering", Astoria London Live. 8) C5 from "Paranoid Android" (highest sustained falsetto note on a studio recording). 9) Effortless-sounding D5 from the full-length On a Friday demo.* 10) Live F5 from "Anyone Can Play Guitar", Sound City, Bristol, 19-4-95. 11) Campy A#5 "oooh" from the full-length On a Friday demo. 12) Not exactly an example of Yorke at his most beautiful: a scratchy, sustained F6 scream, peaking at G#6, again from the full-length On a Friday demo. *There are multiple versions of this disc, some dated 1990 and some dated 1991, with the fourteen tracks in a different order and with different titles. They are widely ...

The Vocal Range Of Peter Steele: (D1-)G♯1-E5(-C♯6)
In memory of the recently-deceased doom metal legend and frontman for Type O Negative and Carnivore, we now have a video honoring his remarkable vocal range. A single listen to Steele's music makes it clear that he is a bass, but he is also quite capable of singing smoothly up to A4 in a surprisingly soulful timbre, compared to his very ominous-sounding low range. For the top half octave of his range, though, his timbre becomes very shouty and gritty, yet it can still be powerful sometimes. Though his low range is tremendous, it is harder to find full-voiced first octave notes by him than one would think, because he often hits them with vocal fry as part of his singing style. 1. 0:00 - Spoken lows down to C2 in full voice from "Finale: Apocalypticraft/Tunnel", with some vocal fry at a few points. There are also some sung C2s in the backing vocal. 2. 0:10 - A solid C2 from "Bloody Kisses (A Death In The Family)". 3. 0:15 - A slide down to a strong C2 from "Just Say No To Love". 4. 0:22 - Very strong melody singing down to B1 from "Nettie". 5. 0:34 - A few B1s from "She Burned Me Down". 6. 0:38 - Some slides up from B1 from "Wolf Moon (Including Zoanthropic Paranoia)" 7. 1:11 - Whispery full voice notes around B1 from "Suspended In Dusk", with one solid B♭1 and a fry G1. 8. 1:29 - B1s and a B♭1 from "Love You To Death". 9. 1:56 - Strong melody singing around B1 with some A1s from "IYDKMIGTHTKY (Gimme That)". 10 .2:11 - Eerie low singing from "All Hallows Eve", bottoming ...

The Vocal Range of Michael Bolton: D2-F5(-C6)
This is a tribute to CuriosityRoads' original awesome video of Bolton (which was sadly removed):. Not many singers have showcased as much versatility as Michael Bolton: he started as Joe Cocker-like bluesy raw baritone, went through hard rock phase with baritonish belts, evolved into legendary cheesy soul crooner (dividing opinions) and eventually trained himself as an operatic heldentenor. Although generally considered a tenor (even by himself), Bolton is actually a very high baritone/baritenor: he possesses a timbre of a true baritone, yet a tenorish tessitura. Bolton's early career reveals a lot about his true voice type: before revamping his technique, Bolton used to strain more on high notes, and his tessitura was lower. Bruce Springsteen has a pretty similar timbre to Bolton's, both of them share untrained and weak low registers too. Springsteen's tessitura is generally lower than Bolton's, though. Even if you don't like Bolton's cheesier soul moments, check out his rock tracks! 1. 0:00 - Good B2s from the live performance of "Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say)", Bolton should've sung more lows like this. 2. 0:11 - Quiet A2s from the cover of Frank Sinatra's "Summer Wind". 3. 0:22 - A whispered G♯2 from "Can I Touch You... There?". 4. 0:26 - A spoken E2 from the intro of "Everybody's Crazy". 5. 0:32 - Purposely whispery lows bottoming around D2 from an interview where Bolton imitates Clint Eastwood. 6. 1:01 - Time for his renowned highs: a fantastic B♭4 from "Celeste ...

The Vocal Range Of Billy Gibbons: E♭1-E♭5(-F♯7)
Like David Lee Roth, here's a singer with an unexpectedly huge range! Gibbons, who has sung for ZZ Top and the Moving Sidewalks, is a low baritone (AKA a bass) who reaches some VERY low notes, but also pushes himself up to the fifth octave! He often sings in the fourth octave, though highs in a melody are rare and usually done as ad-libs. 1. 0:00 - B♭1s from "Crunchy". 2. 0:10 - A signature Gibbons note: a breathy "yeah" at B♭1. From "I Need You Tonight" live. 3. 0:11- Speaking down to B♭1 at the beginning of "Dirty Dog", with a short vocal fry E1. 4. 0:13 - Whispery fry B1s from "As Time Goes By". 5. 0:22 - A spoken D2 from "Blue Jeans Blues" live in Toronto 2000. 6. 0:26 - A different "Blue Jeans Blues" performance, where he hits a B♭1 and a non-modal A5. 7. 0:32 - Low singing from the "Ten Foot Pole" verse, bottoming at C2. 8. 0:55 - A spoken passage from "My Mind Is Gone", touching B♭1. 9. 1:00 - A countdown to B♭1 in full voice and E1 in fry from "Goin' So Good". 10. 1:05 - Speaking down to B♭1 from "Lovething". 11. 1:08 - The same passage live, bottoming at C2. 12. 1:11 - A1 talk-singing from "Tramp". 13. 1:31 - The classic D2s from "La Grange" with a dip to A1 in this performance. 14. 1:37 - An A1 from "Dreadmonboogaloo", which echoes at lower pitches. 15. 1:40 - Some very Barry White-esque lows from "As Time Goes By", bottoming at B♭1, with a non-modal D6 too! 16. 2:00 - Back to "Blue Jeans Blues" live for more spoken lows, bottoming at G♯1. 17. 2:04 ...
