1994 Orange Bowl Classic - Florida State 18 - Nebraska 16
FSU Wins First National Title Led by Charlie Ward, Florida State came from behind to defeat Nebraska 18-16 to secure the school's first-ever national crown. In a game that had two climactic finishes, the Seminoles overcame the stigma of losing games by a field goal by winning one with their own. True freshman place kicker Scott Bentley's 22-yard field goal his fourth of the day, put Florida State on top with: 21 left to all but seal a victory. The game seemed to end after Husker quarterback Tommie Frazier hit tight end Trumane Bell with a 29-yard pass as time expired. But officials concurred that: 01 had to be placed back on the clock and the field was cleared for another finish. This time it was Nebraska's 45-yard try that sailed wide left, giving FSU its ninth-straight bowl victory. An Orange Bowl-record crowd of 81536 witnessed just the 11th meeting ever between the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams and just the third ever in the Orange Bowl.

Florida State defeats Nebraska for national title
Highlights from the 1994 Orange Bowl. Bobby Bowden and Tom Osbourne were each looking to win their first national title. FSU overcame a dropped touchdown pass, a Nebraska tip drill that resulted in a touchdown, and an overthrow and a pass interference penalty on what would have been gamewinning touchdowns to win 18-16. The game was not without controversy as Nebraska fans often point to the borderline William Floyd touchdown that could have been ruled a fumble and the unnecessary roughness call on FSU's final drive but usually don't mention the calls that went in the Huskers favor which I took the liberty of highlighting in this video : ) Controversy aside this was one of the greatest national championship games in college football history

1994 #1 Florida State vs. #2 Nebraska (Orange Bowl - National Championship)
This video is a telecast, broadcast, and production of NBC. I claim no ownership of this material, and do not profit from it in any way. This video is intended for historical and educational viewing purposes. The 60th Annual Orange Bowl game proved indeed to be a "Classic" as the nation's top two teams battled to the last second for the 1993 National Championship. When Florida State kicker Scott Bentley's field goal with 21 seconds left in the game split the uprights and Cornhusker Byron Bennett's last second kick sailed wide left, the Seminoles stood as 18-16 victors over number one Nebraska. Both teams started slow offensively, failing to score in the first quarter. In all, the teams combined for five punts and a missed field goal in the period. And while defense continued to dominate in the second stanza, FSU took a 3-0 lead on Bentley's 34 yard field goal after marching 63 yards. The big play in the FSU drive was a 31 yard pass from Charlie Ward to Kevin Knox, while a pass interference penalty on Nebraska gave Florida State a first down on third and six. It took less than two minutes for the Cornhuskers to counter. When FSU's Devin Bush tipped a pass from Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier into the hands of receiver Reggie Baul, NU had a 34 yard touchdown completion and a 7-3 lead. Florida State and Nebraska traded possessions before FSU was able to add another three. Seminole quarterback Ward showed the skills that won him the Heisman Trophy, scrambling for 23 and ...

Jan. 1, 1955. Duke wins 34-7. [NO SOUND] Part of the Duke Sports Films collection at Duke University Libraries: library.duke.edu The Duke University Archives preserves 16mm film and videotape created by the coaching staffs of the Duke football and men's basketball programs. This site contains descriptions of the film and videotape shot, whether an access copy exists, and in some cases, the physical condition of the original film. Football films and video cover the period of 1935 to 1994 and Men's Basketball film covers the period of 1947 to 1996. It is important to note that the films document the play of the teams and were created as tools for study and training, not for broadcast. Some films were cut and spliced, so the footage may not show the complete game or be in the order the game was played. Also not every game was filmed and there are numerous gaps in the coverage of the film. For information on how to view or request a copy of a film, please see library.duke.edu

#6 Notre Dame vs. #7 Florida State - 1996 Orange Bowl - 1/1/96
In the final Orange Bowl played at the Orange Bowl Stadium, Florida State rallied from a 12-point 4th-qtr deficit to beat Notre Dame 31-26 in dramatic fashion. Notre Dame, led by quarterback Tom Krug (starting in place of an injured Ron Powlus), struck first on a gorgeous 39-yard TD pass from Krug to bigplay WR Derrick Mayes (0:52-mark). Florida State, behind senior QB Danny Kanell, responded with an 81-yard drive and a 15-yard TD pass to senior WR Andre Cooper (2:02-mark) and the offensive shootout was on. Late in the 2nd-qtr, Kanell hit Cooper for a 10-yard TD pass (4:23-mark) and Florida State took a 14-10 lead into halftime. In the 3rd-qtr, Notre Dame recaptured the lead on a spetacular 33-yard TD reception by Derrick Mayes (5:43-mark) in which Mayes tipped the pass to himself and away from Samari Rolle. Early in the 4th-qtr, a huge shift in momentum occurred when Kanell - backed up on his own 1-yardline - accidently stepped out of the endzone resulting in a safety (7:33-mark) and a 19-14 Notre Dame lead. The Fighting Irish capitalized on the free kick and marched swiftly down the field. Krug capped the drive with a 5 yard TD pass to Pete Chryplewicz (8:30-mark) and Notre Dame appeared to be in command with a 26-14 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the 4th-quarter. However, Danny Kanell quickly drove the Seminoles down the field, finding EG Green for an 11-yard TD (9:08-mark) to cut the ND lead to 26-21. After forcing an Irish 3-&-out, a big Dee Feaster punt return ...
