Japan: The Island of Kyushu
Isolated from the Japanese mainstream and closer to Korea and China, Kyushu is the southernmost island in Japan and least known to Westerners. Here we are on the trail of Samurai cities, volcanic caldera, Onsen spas, unique accommodation, and the largest colony of wild monkeys in the world. Kyushu island - Japan
Kyūshū (九州, Nine Provinces?)[2] or Kyushu is the third largest island of Japan and most southwesterly of its four main islands. Its alternate ancient names include Kyūkoku (九国Nine States), Chinzei (鎮西West of the Pacified Area), and Tsukushi-no-shima (筑紫島Island of Tsukushi). The historical regional name Saikaidō (西海道West Sea Circuit) referred to Kyūshū and its surrounding islands. Kyūshū has a population of 13231995 (2006) and covers 35640 square kilometres (13760 sq miGeography The island is mountainous, and Japan's most active volcano, Mt Aso at 1591 metres (5220 ft), is on Kyūshū. There are many other signs of tectonic activity, including numerous areas of hot springs. The most famous of these are in Beppu, on the east shore, and around Mt. Aso, in central Kyūshū. The name Kyūshū comes from the nine ancient provinces of Saikaidō situated on the island: Chikuzen, Chikugo, Hizen, Higo, Buzen, Bungo, Hyūga, Osumi, and Satsuma. Today's Kyūshū Region (九州地方kyūshū-chihō) is a politically defined region that consists of the seven prefectures on the island of Kyūshū and also Okinawa Prefecture to the south: * Northern Kyushu o Fukuoka Prefecture o Saga Prefecture o Kumamoto Prefecture o Nagasaki Prefecture o Ōita Prefecture * Kagoshima Prefecture * Miyazaki Prefecture * Okinawa Prefecture The world's 37th largest island by area, Kyūshū is smaller than Spitsbergen but larger than New Britain and Taiwan. By population, it ranks 13th, having fewer inhabitants than ...

"Thanks everyone. I couldn't get the yusho for a long time. It was great to get this one. "I couldn't get the yusho [during the past three basho ] because my spirit wasn't there. "It felt better having two Yokozuna there this time. And more exciting. Let's Play: Shogun 2 - Otomo Campaign (Legendary) - Part 11: "Reuniting Kyushu"
A massive bout of rebels have had the effect of fracturing my empire and my forces. The past few turns have largely been spent responding to this rebel incursion. It is starting to clear up though, and my careful strategics and machinations have had the effect of nullifying the impact eg I have lost no family members so far, despite having half-full/full stacks rampage throughout my territories and resisted head-on by my own general-led armies time and time again. The outcome of this apparent FUBAR, with hindsight, was perfect. The result is that there has been no permanent damage, other than my advance being slowed.. but in return.. (in addition to the boon of money from taxes) I now have several capable generals - which will be essential for a continued effective advance across Japan. With the... "advent" of this latest DLC for Shogun 2, I decided to start a new campaign. I wouldn't have taken on this project unless I thought I could cope, and I intend to complete this in a timely fashion. It helps that the faction, the Otomo, are well tailored to that kind of a playthrough. A gunpowder and religious blitz. I am playing on legendary difficulty (the hardest, as always), but unless there have been massive changes with the accompanying patch with the intent of taking me by surprise, I think I can cope quite well. ------------------------ Be among the first to like my new facebook page. www.facebook.com then perhaps join my steam group steamcommunity.com before subscribing ...

Part 32: "Reuniting Kyushu"
First battle is at 10:35 2 batches (4 units) of super yari ashigaru group up and overwhelm the garrison of Suo, to give me back my horse specialization settlement. I intend to move them up to support against the Bessho. I then decide to reinforce the confrontation at Tsukushi with some of my forces from Buzen. I auto-resolve and lose a katana samurai and light cavalry to battle attrition. I now have THE WHOLE of Kyushu back again. I auto-resolve a naval battle for the sake of concision, and lose. If I had won, I could have blocked the Bessho assault by holding the land bridge with the zone of control of my navy. Meanwhile, Cosmic is absolutely fucked. His main army (still pretty small) is utterly overwhelmed at Miyagi by 2 full bar, assorted armies. He survives, however. He still has a capital and a Daimyo, and a thirst for revenge. CosmicContrarian and I play a Co-op campaign on the infamous "Legendary" difficulty. I choose the "Shimazu" and Cosmic utilises the "Date". www.youtube.com Part 32 from the perspective of Cosmic www.youtube.com Cosmic's Channel ------------------------ be among the first to like my new facebook page. www.facebook.com and subscribe for more www.youtube.com

KI: Michael Levin
I first became aware of Michael Levin's photographs in 2010. His photographs of everyday places and common subjects are transformed into something much more when he views them through his lens...absolutely stunning! Being that a large majority of Michael's work is done in Japan, I instantly had a connection to it as I too have a bond with Japan and have traveled and documented the landscape extensively in my own way. After watching my film Hayaku (http://vimeo.com/12112529) Michael contacted me regarding a project he was working on and felt it might be of interest to me. He told me that he really appreciated my work and recognized the dedication and effort that went into it. I agreed to go on a trip with him to Japan and work on his project. But for me, there was a greater opportunity at hand. We had several conversations and I gave him some ideas about expanding the project and he really took to it. A month later and we were in Japan having beers and sushi.
I wanted to document Michael at work, in Japan, in a way that hasn't really been explored with photographers. I told Michael of my idea to make an artistic representation of his experiences in the Land of the Rising Sun - to show him in his working environment in a way that complimented his work. Not to explain it with words, but to feel it through the flow of the film. I wanted to show the process, the journey, the adventure in a way that would give the viewer an emotional connection to Michael and his photography.
The final result is something that I think is truly original… something that showcases who Michael is, and more importantly, what his work is all about. This film is a collaboration between Michael and I and our love for photography, film, Japan and adventure. This is a subject that Michael and I are continuing to explore as we plan more trips together, more films and more adventures.
I hope you enjoy!

Kyushu Explorer: Hanuted Kyushu
This is an excerpt from a 10 minute travel show I did for AFN Sasebo. Working with a partner we researched local Japanese ghost stories and the locations surrounding them. The excerpt revolves around the legend of Okiku. I directed the actors. This was my first attempt a green screen work. I wrote and voiced the script. The still images were scanned in and I manipulated them using Boris Red. The video I edited with Avid.

Kyushu J7W1 Shinden
The Shinden or Magnificent Lightning was designed to be Japan´s first jet powered fighter. Three prototypes were built before the war ended and only three flights (all gear down) were made. The prototypes were equipped with piston engines because the jet engines that Germany tried to export to Japan never reached its destination. The Shinden was a canard design with the horisontal stabilizers in front and the engine in the back in a pusher configuration. The plane was very different from other fighters of that periode, but compared to modern fighters it looks like the japanese engineers were on to something This Kyushu J7W1 Shinden model was designed and built for the RC-Groups first Build Off competition. More details about the model can be found in this build thread at RC Groups: www.rcgroups.com

Dangerous Police Chase in Kyushu, Japan
This is an interesting police chase in Japan where a suspect armed with a gun kidnaps his children, kills his neighbour and drives around the streets of Kyushu causing chaos. Police respond but the suspect does whatever he can to getaway. The chase eventually ends when the suspect crashes into a road block. He is arrested and his children are unharmed.
