Who Is Behind The Privatization Of Education:Gates, Broad, KIPP, Pearson, EdWest & The Gulen Schools
Who Is Behind The Privatization Of Education: Education, Privatization, Bill Gates, Broad, KIPP, Pearson, EdWest And The Gulen Schools. A massive national and international organized plan to privatize education has been implemented over several decades. Billionaires, such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Broad Foundation and the Pearson corporation among others, have infiltrated hundreds of governmental bodies including school boards, city councils and our local, state and regional governments. They seek to turn our education system into a profit center worth tens of billions of dollars. This also includes the Gulen Islamic cult led by Imam Fethullah Gulen, which runs the largest chain of charters in the United States funded by public money. We will also look at the criminal conflicts that have allowed politicians to personally benefit from using their public positions to profit from their votes and actions. This forum will look at how this has come about, who did it, how it is affecting us and who is profiting from it at the cost of public education and finally how to stop this attack on our public education system. The Dirty Secret Behind Privatizing Social Security
www.Protectsocialsecurity.ncpssm.org - Privatization isn't a plan to save Social Security; it's actually a plan to dismantle it. The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare is committed to fighting any effort to privatize Social Security, and here's why: Social Security was established as an insurance program for all citizens and was never meant to be an investment vehicle. The cost of administering Social Security is just 1% —far below the amount a for-profit business would charge to handle private retirement accounts. Brokers' and fund managers' fees could burn up as much as 15 cents of every dollar. And the cost to make the transition to a privatized system would be 5 trillion dollars paid for entirely by taxpayers. Privatization is just another way that Wall Street is trying to line their pockets with your money. Plus privatized investments in the stock market wouldn't be guaranteed. Nest eggs could disappear in an instant and take years to rebuild after a market drop. You could even run out of money if you don't estimate your retirement income needs correctly. America can't return to a time when old age often meant living in poverty. Today, your support of the National Committee helps ensure that Social Security won't be taken away from the millions of future retirees who are counting on it. Let's keep Social Security as the bedrock of our nation's retirement.

Abolish Public Education: Privatize All Schools - Ron Paul
thefilmarchive.org 1988 Paul sought in the 1980s and 1990s to eventually abolish all public schools; but by the 2008 presidential election campaign, he had adopted a more moderate stance. Paul insists that "the federal government has absolutely no role in education" under the Constitution, "regardless of what the Supreme Court has claimed." He argues that the best way to improve the quality of education while fighting rising costs, growing numbers of dropouts, and higher levels of violence and drug use among students is to reduce the reach of centralized government in the schools and return control over school curricula, funding, and administration back to parents and local communities. He has long opposed the idea of federally-mandated testing being used to measure student performance against federally-determined national education standards. He voted against national testing measures first proposed by the Clinton administration; and he similarly has never supported the federal No Child Left Behind Act, which he voted against when it was proposed in 2001. Paul is a proponent of school choice, saying that private, parochial, and home schools provide a healthy counterweight to "the near monopoly control over indoctrination of young people" of the public schools, which he considers "socialist"; and he notes that the nation's Founders themselves were largely home-schooled or taught in church-associated schools. In support of school choice and local control of education, he ...

Occupy Education: Teachers, Students Fight School Closings, Privatization, Layoffs, Rankings
democracynow.org — As students across the country stage a national day of action to defend public education, we look at the nation's largest school systems — Chicago and New York City — and the push to preserve quality public education amidst new efforts to privatize schools and rate teachers based on test scores. In Chicago, the city's unelected school board voted last week to shut down seven schools and fire all of the teachers at 10 other schools. In New York City, many educators are criticizing Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration after the release of the names of 18000 city teachers, along with a ranking system that claims to quantify each teacher's impact on the reading and math scores of their pupils on statewide tests. "The danger is that if teachers and schools are held accountable just for relatively narrow measures of what it is students are doing in class, that will become what drives the education system," says Columbia University's Aaron Pallas, who studies the efficiency of teacher-evaluation systems. "The effects of school closings in [New York City] is one of the great untold stories today," says Democracy Now! education correspondent Jaisal Noor. "The bedrock of these communities [has been] neighborhood schools and now they're being destroyed." Karen Lewis, president of the Chicago Teachers Union says, "When you have a CEO in charge of a school system as opposed to a superintendent — a real educator — what ends up happening is that they literally ...

Florida Lawmakers Defeat Prison Privatization Amid National Push for For-Profit Jails
democracynow.org - The Florida State Senate has defeated a measure to privatize at least 27 prisons, which would have created the largest corporate-run prison system in the country. Despite the vote, Republican Gov. Rick Scott could still privatize the prisons through executive authority. According to the US Department of Justice, the number of prisoners being added to privately run jails is out-pacing the overall prison population by 17 percent compared to 4 percent. The nation's largest operator of for-profit prisons, Corrections Corporation of America, recently sent letters to 48 states offering to buy up their prisons in exchange for a 20-year management contract, plus an assurance that the prison would remain at least 90 percent capacity. We discuss prison privatization with two guests: Florida Republican State Senator Mike Fasano, who led the charge against the bill to handover South Florida's state prisons to private companies; and ACLU of Ohio spokesperson Mike Brickner, co-author of the report, "Prisons for Profit: A look at Prison Privatization."
